way they make their money is by sucking in 50 people like you at a cost of $ 200 each, per day and that is how they make the $ 10,000. And all you have to do in return is sucker in 50 people just like you at a cost of $ 200, per day.

Something that I found surprising was the ‘car wrapping’ scam. You are advised that you can make $300 to $500 per week by wrapping your vehicle in a wrap displaying the logo of a company.

You should be suspicious as soon as you are told that they will send you a cheque, from which you will take a cut and then you are to pass the rest on to some graphics artist. And guess what, you do all that only to find that the cheque is counterfeit and you are on the hook for the entire amount. Not a great way to start employment!

Be aware of products or schemes that claim to guarantee income and jobs that require an upfront fee or that you send money through a transfer service. Make sure any business opportunity is legitimate. Take the time to do some research on the company. If you go online and google ‘employment scams’ quite a number of sites with information will come up.

Take a look at them. Perhaps ‘google’ the company name and see what comes up.

As always, never send credit card or bank account information to anybody you don’t know and trust.

If you do find a job that you think is legitimate, make sure you get all of the details in writing before paying or signing anything. And, if you happen to be new in Canada, your employer should not be asking to hold your visa or passport or other forms of identification. There are laws to protect employees, make sure you know your rights!

In the meantime, if you have concerns that you or someone you know may be being scammed contact the OPP or Wawa and Area Victim Services.

Dear Editor, When it comes to trade, Conservatives want the best deal for Canadian families, workers and businesses.

We understand why Canadians are concerned with the NAFTA renegotiations.

1-in-5 Canadian jobs are created as a result of free trade agreements and it is critical that Justin Trudeau continues to protect these well-paying, high-quality jobs.

It’s unacceptable that Justin Trudeau unveiled a federal budget that doesn’t contain a contingency plan if NAFTA is terminated, or promote policies that make Canada a more attractive place to invest and do business.

The latest round of NAFTA talks concluded this week, coming at a time when US President Trump announced that he plans to impose tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum imports.

President Trump has stated that Canada will be subjected to those tariffs, if a “new and fair” NAFTA agreement is not signed.

Budget 2018 contained no new policies that will help Canadian steel and aluminum workers deal with U.S. protectionist policies and trade disruptions.

Canada’s Conservatives stand with the Canadian steel and aluminum workers who will be severely impacted if the United States moves forward with crippling tariffs on aluminum and steel exports.

The Trudeau government is failing to take these trade disputes and other trade irritants seriously.

If Canada isn’t open for business, then fewer people in Washington will value maintaining NAFTA in its current form.

As a result Tanya Lynn HOVINMAKI (35) of Terrace Bay, Ontario was arrested and charged with: • Adult Driving with More than 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 253(1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Wawa, Ontario on April 9, 2018.

COUNCIL NEWS

Council called a Special Meeting a week ago Monday evening to hear oral submissions from four residents who have submitted their names to fill the Councillor vacancies left by Tamara Liddle and Yvan Besner. Council chose to fill the vacant Council positions through a Council approved appointment process and four candidates: Cathy Cannon, Robert Reece, Julia Rowe, and Pat Tait gave an oral review of their qualifications and answered questions posed by Mayor Rody, Councillor Weitzel and Councillor Chiasson.

Pat Tait is a retired resident who has made Wawa his home for most of his life.

He has held responsible positions in company's such as area mines, Weyerhaeuser, Wesdome, Rentech, and in earning managerial roles has demonstrated his leadership qualities. Pat has been a certified Health and Safety officer for over 20 years, takes an active part in the Brookfield Water Shed Management Plan and is currently a member of Wawa's Strategic Plan Implementation Committee.

He has given much time to volunteer projects such as fish stocking, minor hockey coach, and enjoys many leisure activities available in our town: Oldtimers' hockey, snowmobiling, fishing, golfing and camping. Pat is eager to contribute to the planning of Wawa's future and particularly targetted the problem of landfill expansion and the need for an extended recycling program. As a retiree, Pat has the time and the expertise to contribute to the planning in making Wawa a vibrant community going forward.

Robert Reece has recently made Wawa his home, but has wasted no time in getting acclimated to all the great things our community has to offer. He has many interests, a martial arts instructor who has run his own club, and a motorcycle buff. Through his many years as an accountant he knows financial strategies, business practices and is familiar working with government agencies. One of the reasons that Robert chose to make Wawa his home was the excellent reputation of our hospital and medical services available in our town, and has wasted no time in joining the health services team with an appointment to the Hospital Board of Directors.

He has worked at Buck's Marina, and is currently employed with Michipicoten First Nation which has given him a wide focus of our town and area. Robert and his wife have joined the mixed curling team and by attending the many community events happening weekly, the experience has given him the platform to meet people in town from varied walks of life to enable him to become familiar with our challenges as he eagerly looks forward to contributing to the future viability of the town.

Julia Rowe is from northern Ontario and has made Wawa home for some years now. Teaching has been her passion most of her career years teaching grade school up and is currently teaching grades at the Michipicoten High School. She has continued on a learning curve all her life and through study has qualifed for an acting Vice Principal position at MHS. Julia has many interests: member of the Baptist Church and Pentecostal Church, has coached highschool sports, a spiritual councillor, member of the Rod and Gun Club, loves nature and the outdoors, and works with teens to prepare them for their future. Throughout her life, Julia has gone the extra mile to learn new things, can deal with criticism, can make decisions and stand up for her convictions. One of Julia's main targets is working to make Wawa a progressive community where our youth can find viable work, a safe resource-rich community to raise their families, and have all the amenities to keep our population strong.

Cathy Cannon is a longtime resident of Wawa. She is fortunate to have been a stay at home mother raising her family, and in doing so has kept herself very busy in volunteering and bringing much expertise to many organizations in town. Over the years she has led many fundraising projects to finance good causes such as an ambulance depot, president of the skating club bringing it out of debt, involved in minor hockey raising money for the travel team, and has helped out with the Wawa Salmon Derby for many years. She has lived through hard times and has worked hard to stay in Wawa where many have left to find jobs and opportunities in larger cities. She has

a fighting determination and her spirit does not waver. She is trustworthy, a fast learner, a team player and will not rest until a solution to a problem has been found. One of her passions is to build a strong community whereby people have jobs to support their family, progressive services and health care, and where industry and tourism can flourish in building a vibrant community.

After the presentations, each candidate was put on the hot seat having to collect their ideas and respond on the spot to three questions posed by Council, and I admire each candidate for handling this difficult assignment with poise and introspect. Well done to all of you.

After private consultation, Council returned to chambers with their decision and appointed Pat Tait and Julia Rowe as Members of Council for the remainder of the Council term ending November 30, 2018. Mayor Rody thanked all four candidates for their presentations and urged Cathy Cannon and Robert Reece to add their names to the ballot in the Municipal elections to be held in October when the entire town's voting population will evaluate their qualifications and vote according to their own convictions.

Screen For Life Coach Returning To The Region (Thunder Bay, Ontario, March 21, 2018) – Returning to the region this spring for a full travel season is the Screen for Life Coach - a mobile health screening service that provides breast, cervical and colon cancer screening to more than 70 different locations in Northwestern Ontario.

In our region, screening rates need to improve, as the percentage of eligible individuals who are overdue for screening is high. According to the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario, for our region only 61.8% of women are upto-date with breast cancer screening, 59.0% are up-to-

date on their cervical cancer screening, and 42.8% of adults, between the ages of 50 and 74 years, are overdue for colon cancer screening.

In Ontario, the cancer screening guidelines for average risk men and women are as follows: • Women, who are between the ages of 50 and 74 years, should have a breast cancer screening mammogram every 2 years.

What's Up With Spring?

“This is Jack Windom, Parliament Hill political reporter for the Ottawa Bureau of the CTV network., with breaking news about the bizarre weather we have been experiencing in Canada and the States this past winter and now our prolonged winter. We have obtained a copy of this leaked document from the House of Commons Intelligence & Security Committee closed door hearings held today, April 4/18. It reads as follows: Please find attached the confidential report that I have submitted to the Chief of Staff of the Defense Department in Ottawa , with a copy to Environment Canada, for their comments and assessment– Col. Jeffrey Warmup, Asst.

Director, Canadian Branch, NORAD, North Bay, Ontario.

The question has been asked by everyone this month: “Where is Spring?”. Another one has been: “What's causing this wacky weather?”.

Weather forecasters have blamed it on the jet stream, high and low pressures, greenhouse gas emissions and the now infamous 'polar vortex', like the one that happened in 2015.. We have heard all these theories for years. They all sound reasonable I guess.

But an e-mail mistakenly sent to a Jim White in Wawa, Ontario on April 1st presents a new theory to put out there.

It sounds like something out of science fiction that Arthur C. Clarke would have written, or a spy thriller like John LeCarree.

As the saying goes, truth is stranger than fiction. Mr. White was not sure either, but thankfully he was a concerned citizen, and decided to send it to his MP, who is on this above mentioned committee. He also felt it was something to be pursued, even though it is likely an April Fool's Day prank. We all hope so. But this emergency meeting was convened to discuss it. Here is the verbatim wording of this message: “DRAFT: To our Canadian 'comrades': I have first hand knowledge of why winter is holding on so long, despite the calendar saying it is supposed to be spring. It is canceled for this year! We have seen to that!

To: James Whyte, Assistant Director of External Affairs, Ottawa. I am not sure if you know who I am, so I am letting you know that I am the Assistant Director to Dr. Igor Vargo. He is the Head of Climate Research in the Ministry of Science Technology in Moscow, Russia.

I am sending this information from our facility near the far tip of Greenland to you, our enemies, in North America, to instill a fear of what has happened to your weather, as well as a warning of what is to come.

This is directed in particular to the American warmongers, but since you Canadians are in our way, you must suffer the same consequences as your southern ally. It is unfortunate

that this has involved you, but due to your geographic and friendly economic connections to them it has drawn you into this punishment.

With the co-operation of our Chinese comrades, and Inuit friends from Canada's Nunavut and Northwest Territories, as well as the Aleuts in Alaska, we have been able to construct a series of gigantic wind turbines that extend high up into the atmosphere, right under your noses. We have 10 of them strategically located here in Greenland, 15 on Ellesmere Island, 3 on Baffin Island, and 15 inside Russia along the Siberian coastline. They are all of varying heights, depending on location. This has created the turbulence that was required to achieve the desired effect of moving the 'polar vortex' westward from Siberia to over Canada's Hudson Bay. We started assembling these turbines in the fall of 2015. We had them completely assembled and operational by that October, just in time for the start up of your winter season.

That was our first test to see if it would work, and it did.

So we have made adjustments based on our tests, and are sure we have perfected the system to wreak maximum damage.

This winter of 2017/18 is proof.

So much for your so-called radar technology. Your air surveillance has never picked up these turbines, thanks to our specially coated enamel covering on the towers and blades.

It repulsed your radar imaging instruments signals, as well the painting patterns made a perfect camouflage at their locations.

Their purpose, you ask.

Well, we have been pumping all this cold Arctic air down from Siberia over to the North Pole, into Canada and the United States, thus re-directing the jet stream downwards into your countries. This has helped to keep you cold, as well as spawning all the miserable weather you have experienced this winter. This cold will help extend winter's grip, and keep thawing to a minimum for a while longer. Things are progressing well, with the clashing of cold and hot air down in the southern states, producing all these deadly tornadoes and lots of rain, freezing rain, and more snow in most parts of both countries earlier this year, and still producing snow all over the place. Perfect. All the deaths from this project are regrettable, but a necessary side effect, I am sorry to say.

And true to the name, these wind turbines have indeed created lots of wind being pumped out from them. Unfortunately they are designed to blow away from the structures and so cannot generate any electricity to help pay for them. This is a small price in the larger scheme of things, however. The huge battery packs we have developed for these turbines are a success, and filling the

requirements to keep them running.

All this lingering winter weather should have a detrimental effect on growing your food this year by shortening your growing season. And the drought in California has been changed to too much rain, and now causing widespread flooding – another bonus that will effect your growing abilities this year. It will also make our master plan easier to implement when the time comes.

May you starve, as you have made us and our comrades in North Korea starve, thanks to your sanctions. Trump's possible meeting with Kim Jong Un will not alter our master plan. Time for payback, as Americans like to say. And California was just a start - wait until the flooding starts in earnest, once we adjust our turbines to a different jet stream pattern. We will then let the heat of the sun take over the warming process, causing serious drought throughout the continent.

All this crazy weather, and pre-occupation with our supposed interference in their 2016 election, has diverted attention from our military buildup in Siberia along the northern coast, as well as the Kamchatka Peninsula. It won't be long now until we can claim all of the Arctic as Russian territory, and we will have the military might to enforce it. We can then take over the oil deposits in the Arctic Ocean for our own use, as well as the fishing opportunities for our own people. Despite Canada's bluster, you have a pathetic defense in this area. This is all part of our glorious leader, President Putin's master plan, which will be shown in it's totality to the world in due time. President Putin's control over President Trump is such a help in stoking the mass chaos that is consuming the United States. Trump is excellent at following orders. It may seem like a mystery right now, but soon all will become clear! What I have just outlined is only part of it.

So, this may lead you to ask: Who am I? I am just a humble servant doing my small part in fulfilling this plan. I want to make it clear that I am sending this warning on my own to make you afraid. Be very afraid for your future. Take this seriously. Let's just call me Anon Ymous, to satisfy your Western curiosity, and need to know everything. I reckon you would love to find me and interrogate me, hoping that I will spill the beans about these turbine locations, or what the master plan is all about. Well, good luck.

This message was prepared a week ago, with a timed setting as to when to transmit it. I will give you two possibilities of where I am now – transferred to the Baffin Island windmill site, where we are in the beginning phase of dismantling those ones; or maybe I have been transferred back to Moscow. Oh, a third possibility – I am in Washington, monitoring the American activities to see how close they might be in finding our windmill turbines. Time is ticking down to find them before we remove them from view. It's like finding a needle in a haystack, or in

this case – needles. Of course in our design planning, they are quite portable, once taken apart, and can be easily moved anywhere we want. Then we can put them back together for next winter. Or we may keep them running all summer and disrupt the weather all year round if we want. It's just a matter of minor adjustments and movements to make it happen. That can mean drought or flooding depending on what area of the country we want to hit. So, pass that on to your American counterparts. That will give them lots to work on and worry about!

Oh, yes, I hope you are enjoying the view of all the new smaller version windmill turbines popping up all over the country, but especially in Ontario. That government has bought in hook, line & sinker to this wind power hocus pocus. Their indebtedness to the Chinese companies we are in collaboration with has also made it easier to proceed. The newest versions at Montreal River between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie, and at the Mile Hill near the Soo are now under our control. They don't provide a huge shift in air flow, but there is a local effect that all helps in the bigger scheme of things. Enjoy the view. And the good they will do for the environment – don't forget that, eh!? Ha, ha!”

In closing, get ready for what's coming. You ain't seen anything yet! Cheers! ----- Why this e-mail was sent to this person is obviously a human error – pressing the wrong key. It obviously was a work in progress, with more editing to be done before it was ready to be sent. Technology can also mess things up sometimes for even the most knowledgeable users.

You asked my assessment of whether this is the real thing, or just a hoax – a work of fiction- a joke to try to make light of this lingering winter, along with all the flooding here in Canada and especially in the States. I believe it is not a joke, but a real threat that we must check out, to confirm whether all these claims are valid, or not.

I have alerted our American contacts, and sent them a copy of this message. Now they are starting their own investigation. Their satellites are being re-calibrated to search these areas mentioned. We have given them clearance to fly over our air space to check out these designated locations with their more sophisticated surveillance aircraft. How they will check out the Siberia sites is up to them. We have our own reconnaissance planes ready to head out tomorrow, and CSIS is trying to see if they can track down this Anon Ymous. We are not too optimistic, though.

External Affairs has contacted our agents in Russia to see what they can find out more about this 'master plan' that is mentioned. So far no luck, but it has only been a few days.

Hopefully we can clear this up before they can put it into full implementation, if it is indeed accurate. I will send you an update as soon as more information is obtained. ---

“Thanks, Jack. Yes, the States are being hit again with lots of snow, heavy rain, flooding, and tornadoes, depending on what part of the country you live in. Canada is not immune either. Vancouver is expecting heavy rain again. The mountain passes around Whistler will get at least 40cm of blowing snow, which will make for treacherous driving conditions.

There is also an avalanche risk in the same area too. Calgary and Edmonton will get hit from this same system coming in off the Pacific by tomorrow and bitter cold, as is the Yukon and Northwest Territories. The rest of the Prairies and Ontario will experience cold temperatures with strong gusty winds for the next two days, followed by snow as this system rolls through from the West. By the weekend the temperatures will be in double digits for one day, with heavy rain from a system moving up from the Gulf of Mexico. By next week it is cooler temperatures again. The East Coast should prepare for a major Nor'Easter for the weekend. Wacky weather for sure, and no sign of settling down to normal any time soon. Back to the anchor desk for more news. “This is Jack Windom of CTV with an update of the story we reported about on earlier today. - We have learned that the name of Anon Ymous is in fact Alexander Freezechenko of the Ministry of Science Technology, as he claimed in his e-mail message.

He has been found dead in the East River in New York City. He was executed in typical Russian fashion of torture leading to a welcome death for the victim with that same nerve toxin that was used on the Russian former spy and his daughter in Great Britain that has caused such a diplomatic tit for tat escalation of the Cold War. We will not be reporting on the grizzly details of his death. It does show that the Kremlin did not appreciate his e-mail sent in error to the this citizen of Canada, which revealed too much of their 'master plan'. It also appears that this report has been leaked to the Russians here in Canada and immediately transmitted to theh Kremlin in Moscow, who then took those immediate actions to silence him for good. There are now several leads to pursue and report on as they become confirmed to several important leads in this ongoing investigation. Now if we could only find those turbines and shut them off so we can get back to a normal spring. Enough of winter, don't you agree, folks!”

Ontario Athletes Contribute To Happy Easter! Your Beer, A Record-Breaking Performance Wine And Spirits Are About To Get More Expensive At 2018 Winter Paralympics Tax Escalator On Alcohol Begins On April 1, With Excise Taxes Rising 1.5%

OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is reminding Canadians that as of Easter Sunday, April 1st, they will be paying more for beer, wine and spirits thanks to the federal government’s tax escalator on alcohol.

“This weekend, while kids across Canada enjoy their Easter egg hunts, Canadian adults will be hunting for a bit more cash if they want to enjoy a drink,” said CTF Federal Director Aaron Wudrick.

First passed in the 2017 federal budget, the new escalator tax automatically increases excise taxes on beer, wine and spirits every year by

the rate of inflation.

Last fall, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation launched the No Escalator Tax campaign (www.

NoEscalatorTax.ca) to raise awareness about the new tax escalator, and calling on the federal government to repeal it. Thousands of emails have been sent to Finance Minister Bill Morneau through the site.

“Automatic tax hikes set a dangerous precedent that should concern all Canadians.

Tax increases are a political choice, and politicians who make that choice should be transparent about it each and every time, rather than bury them in a legislative formula” said Wudrick.

According to his government’s own research, his carbon tax will add 11 cents per litre to the price of gasoline by 2022.

lies when he was running for Prime Minister.

The average family is already paying more than $800 extra per year in taxes because of his failure to keep spending under control.

Ontario Para-Athletes Rack Up Impressive Medal Count at Paralympics

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport Ontario is celebrating the amazing achievements of its para-athletes who helped Canada earn a new national medal record at the 2018 Winter Paralympics Games, with Ontario para-athletes winning 6 medals in team and single events out of 28 medals for Team Canada.

This year, 21 Ontario athletes were part of the largest Canadian team ever to be sent to a Winter Paralympics -competing in all five sports in PyeongChang, South Korea.

In total, 16 Ontario para-athletes reached the highest level of their sport by securing a spot on the Paralympic podium for Team Canada. Local favourites who represented Canada on the world stage and won top honours include: • Mac Marcoux from Sault Ste. Marie won gold for men's downhill and a bronze in alpine skiing, men's giant slalom.

• Mark Ideson from London, Ontario, skip for Team Canada, took home bronze for wheelchair curling.

• Collin Cameron from Sudbury, Ontario became the first Canada para Nordic sit skier ever to medal with bronze in 7.5 km biathlon, 15 km race and 4x2.5 km open relay in cross-country.

• Thirteen out of 17 athletes on the silver-winning para ice hockey team are from Ontario including Corbin Watson, Rob Armstrong, Brad Bowden, Adam Dixon, Tyrone Henry, Billy Bridges, Dominic Cozzolino, Ben Delaney, James Dunn, Tyler McGregor, Bryan Sholomicki, Corbyn Smith and Greg Westlake.

The province's Quest for Gold program supports over 1,300 athletes from over 50 sports, while also supporting programs that enhance coaching and training to help athletes reach their full

potential. All sixteen athletes who won medals at the 2018 Paralympic Games are Quest for Gold recipients.

Supporting amateur paraathletes is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

Quick Facts • Team Canada won 8 gold, 4 silver and 16 bronze medals at the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Games.

• There were 21 athletes from Ontario who represented Team Canada at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, including 20 Quest for Gold recipients.
