This was the first time that this London, Ontario group of ladies put a team in the Wawa Bonspiel. Sheryl Ross, Lena Moore, Gail McMahon, and Darlene Jordan took first place in the A Event.

Article & photos by Barb Fisher This is the 65th year the Ladies Curling Bonspiel weekend has got off to another great start. A total of twenty eight teams from Wawa, Sudbury, London, White River and two teams from Blind River showed the right stuff and in between a lot of laughs, demonstrated that these gals can curl. Friday afternoon the first draws got underway so that the packed schedule could be timely completed. I arrived in time to take the pics of the fourteen teams entered in the costume parade depicting this year's theme "Night at the Movies". The curling rink was flooded with characters from the big screen, Cruella and her several dalmations, ghost busters, trolls, Willy Wonka, Mad Hatter and never to be forgotten, the 50 Shades of Grey fourway....oops foursome!

Winners in the Most Original category went to the Johnny Depp collection of characters: Natalie Jones as the Mad Hatter, Kayla Lamon as Edward Scissor Hands, Dawn Campbell as Captain Jack Sparrow and Mel Charbonneau as Willy Wonka. Best Dressed accolades went to the Trolls, Wawa's Laryssa Simpson and White River's, Kristie Colbey, Nicole Simpson and Brandi Greenwood. Funniest category winners went to the Ghostbusters: Glynis Smith-

Morin, Tammy Asselin, Bev Nantal and Brenda Melbourne.

The award given for Team Spirit was difficult to judge as when it comes to having a great time, all the gals were up to the challenge. The judges decided that what better way but to honour the long distance travellers who were eager to see just how Wawa gals get through their long winters. Accolades go to Diane Dumais and Robin Witty from Toronto, Joan Koob from Guelph, and Deanna Morrison from distant Calgary.

Rinks got into full swing early Saturday morning with lots of serious curling and great shots in between the camaraderie that women seem to have perfected. Skit night got underway Saturday evening with lots of door prizes and a whopping $995.00 was raised from tickets sold only on Saturday for the Basket Raffle draw. Chapleau's awesome "Tall Boys" provided the live music for the dance that followed with the invitation extended as in other years, to the Oldtimers Hockey Tournament who shared the weekend spotlight.

Sunday afternoon I settled into the spectator section to catch the final games in the First, Second and Third Events and the competition was brutal demonstrating first class curling entertainment. The victors assembled before the wonderful prize

tables to make their selection as the winners were called.

The grand winner of the First Event and trophy was a team with three members from London and their first time attending Wawa's Bonspiel: Sheryl Ross, Lena Moore, Gail McMahon and Darlene Jordan. Winners of the Second Event were Wawa's own Gwynne O'Shaughnessy, LynnDee Eason, MaryLynn McKenna and Barb Leschishin. The Third Event winners also from Wawa, Melissa Terris, Carol-Anne Robinson, Anjali Oberai and Lindsay Robinson.

New this year the Wawa Women's Curling Club is offering for sale as a fundraiser their fabulous cookbook "From Our House to Yours - Recipes to Curl Up With".

The cookbook was originally printed for the millenium year 2000 Bonspiel and all 800 copies sold out quickly.

Because of this high demand a reprint has been repeated with 300 copies available for only $15.00 each. To purchase this excellent collection, contact Tammy Asselin 4595, Marcelle Terris 4349, or Brenda Melbourne 7801.

Mantha Acclaimed As NDP Candidate For The Next Provincial Election Michael Mantha has been acclaimed the NDP candidate in Algoma-Manitoulin for the next provincial election.

Elected since 2011, Mantha received the nod from the local association on Saturday afternoon.

“I have loved representing Algoma-Manitoulin for the last 7 years and very much look forward to continuing,” said Mantha. “My work has just begun and I am excited to continue being a strong voice for the North” Several NDP party members gathered in Espanola on Saturday March 25th along with guest speaker France Gelinas to nominate Michael Mantha and elect new and past executive member to the Riding Association.

John Tavella Memorial Oldtimers Hockey Tournament

Article by Barb Fisher Last year the annual Oldtimers Hockey Tournament was renamed and dedicated to John Tavella in memory of one of their own taken way too soon, but never forgotten, and this year is the 15th year that the tournament has been held in conjunction with the Ladies Curling Bonspiel weekend.

This year six teams faced off in a round robin series beginning last Friday night with the finals held on Sunday.

Participating teams: Wawa, Friday Knighters, Hearst, Mike's Midgets, Old Nellies and 1968 All Stars.

The tournament got underway Friday evening and continued all day Saturday, with a dinner celebration to catch up on old times at the North of 17 Restaurant - wings, fries and much toasting to all their dear fellow hockey buddies who have sadly left us: Johnny Tavella, Bear Parise and Mike Fortier who were very much

a part of the celebration in spirit. The guys met up with their families and joined the ladies curling celebration at the arena and mingled the evening away to the tunes of Tall Boys, live in the community centre lounge.

On Sunday the final games were played, and I'm sorry that I missed the exciting action live. However, Billy Valois and some of the guys were at the arena...well let's just say, supporting the curling gals, and filled me in on the action. The third and fourth ranked teams, both from Wawa, Wawa versus Mike's Midgets ended with a spectacular winning goal by Fern Albert breaking the tie in the last two minutes and taking the 3-2 win. If that wasn't enough nail biting, the final game matched Hearst against our Legion's 1968 All Stars. In the last two minutes the score was 5-3 for Hearst when the 68 All Stars scored - 5-4, and again in the dying seconds

Roger Camache scored the tying goal. Talk about the ultimate heart attack test for these well-seasoned players.

The ensuing sudden death shootout went to nine shots before a player finally broke the breath-hold. It was the Hearst team that scored, but they did save everyone from oxygen deprivation!

The tournament convenors give much thanks to those amazing individuals who every year at this time make this exciting event possible.

Remember next year when the gals are doing their thing on the curling rink, next door the "oldtimers" can still put on an entertaining show of their own.

Coming Soon— Commemorative Bank Note for Canada’s 150th On the 1st of July 2017, Canada will mark 150 years of Confederation, and this milestone will be commemorated in many ways. For its part, the Bank of Canada will mark this anniversary by issuing a new commemorative $10.00 bank note that will be broadly available by Canada Day 2017. Commemorative notes, while unique, are circulating notes that can be used for payment just like all other notes issued by the Bank. But some Canadians treat these bills like little pieces of history.

The Bank, which produces Canada’s bank notes, has issued only three commemorative notes to mark important milestones in Canada’s history.

In 1935, a $25.00 note was issued in honour of the Silver Jubilee of King George V. In 2015, a variation of the $20.00 note recognized the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth II. And in 1967, a special $1.00 note celebrated Canada’s centennial. Many will remember the events that marked this important milestone for our young country.

Perhaps you, or someone you know, have held on to a 1967 $1.00 bill.

Anniversary celebrations are now ramping up again!

The design of the special Canada 150 polymer note will be unveiled soon. In deciding what images to include on it, the Bank turned to Canadians

for help.

For the first time ever, the design process began with an invitation to all Canadians to propose ideas. This open call for suggestions, followed by a nationally representative survey, asked Canadians to suggest themes and subjects to represent Canada on a note celebrating its 150th birthday. A subsequent survey then asked Canadians to rank these themes in order of preference. Focus group testing also took place to gather impressions on the designs.

The suggestions that the Bank received through these processes inspired the bank note’s content and design.

And now the commemorative note carefully incorporates many Canadians’ ideas that best represent the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Details about the design, security features, the number of commemorative $10.00 notes that will circulate and how to obtain them will be announced soon. In the meantime, think about what makes you proud to be Canadian as the 150th celebrations get under way.

(WAWA, ON) - The Superior East Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind the public that once again local residents are receiving calls from individuals posing as Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employees and requesting personal information. Police want you to confirm who you're dealing with before sending any money anywhere for any reasons. In 2016, the CRA fraud drew 15,091 complaints, resulting in 751 identified victims who lost a combined $2.49 million. Police admit 95 percent of the crimes go unreported.

message or email, a fraudulent communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency requesting personal information such as a social insurance number, credit card number, bank account number, or passport number.

Fraudsters impersonate the real CRA by telephone or by email.

Fraudsters are either phishing for your identification or asking that outstanding taxes be paid by a money service business or by pre-paid debit/ credit cards. They may insist that this personal information is needed so that the taxpayer can receive a refund or a benefit payment. Cases of fraudulent communication could also involve threatening or coercive language to scare individuals into paying fictitious debt to the CRA. Other communications urge taxpayers to visit a fake CRA website where the taxpayer is then asked to verify their identity by entering personal information. These are scams and taxpayers should never respond to these fraudu-

lent communications nor click on any of the links provided.

Here are some warning signs: Urgency - The scammer always makes the request sound very urgent, which may cause the victim to not verify the story.

Fear - The scammer plays on the victim's emotions by generating a sense of fear. For instance they may say, "I am scared and I need help from you."

Secrecy - The scammer pleads with the victim not to tell anyone about the situation, such as, "Please don't tell Dad or Mom, they would be so mad."

Request for Money Transfer - Money is usually requested to be sent by a money transfer company such as Money Gram, Western Union or even through your own banking institution.

To avoid becoming a victim, police advise you to first check with another family member or trusted friend to verify the information BEFORE sending money or providing credit card information by phone, e-mail or online.

The Municipality of Wawa (“Municipality”) announced last month, a partnership with a long-time community partner Algoma Power Inc. (“Algoma Power”) and its parent company FortisOntario Inc. (“FortisOntario”).

Algoma Power committed to a multi-year donation totalling $40,000 toward the replacement and maintenance of the Wawa Goose.

In addition to this commitment, Algoma Power would like to encourage additional public donation by offering a Dollar-for-Dollar Donationmatching Campaign which will run for the month of April 2017. Algoma Power trusts this initiative will add momentum to the fundraising efforts required for the ongoing sustainability of the Wawa Goose.

“As a way to help increase public donation to the Wawa Goose, in addition to the multi-year donation totaling $40,000, Algoma Power has committed to a MATCHING DONATION DRIVE during the month of APRIL 2017. Donations made from the public will be matched

by Algoma Power “dollar for dollar” up to a maximum of $15,000. Any public donations that come into the Municipality of Wawa during the month of April intended to help rebuild and maintain the new Wawa Goose. “We are very excited to be able to commit to this additional donation and hope that the public donations during this campaign reach the mark!”

Saving Water: The Benefits Of A Rain Barrel The Wawa Economic Development Corporation in partnership with the Municipality of Wawa are selling rain barrels at the low price of $45.00 until April 28th to encourage residents to reduce municipally treated water during the summer months.

“Rain barrels are an excellent way to conserve water and get residents prepared for paying by amount of water used. Rain barrels provide untreated water for lawns and gardens. You can water for hours, with zero environmental impact.” – Says Shawn Mahon, Green Project Coordinator Councilor Yvan Besner says “it’s easy to attach a hose, or use with a watering can, and is perfect for potted plants.” The rain barrels are designed to collect rainwater from existing downspouts and can hold up to 220L of water. Michipicoten Chronicles

Angus Bethune While Canada and Ontario celebrate 150 years in 2017, it is important to remember the role that people and places in the Wawa and the Michipicoten area played in the growth and development of our province and nation. Angus Bethune is just one of those many people…

Born in September 1783 on Carleton Island, New York, Angus Bethune held prominent positions in the early fur trade and had a long career full of adventure, turbulence and controversy. His travels took him west to the Colombia River; the Aleutian Islands; Monterey, California; the Hawaiian Islands; and to the bustling harbours of Macao and Canton, China.

Angus was Chief Factor at the Michipicoten Hudson’s Bay Company post between 1832 and 1836. His wife Louisa Mackenzie was the daughter of a native woman and Roderick Mackenzie, a partner in the Northwest Company. Roderick

was cousin to Alexander Mackenzie, the first European to traverse North America from the Atlantic to the Arctic and the Pacific in 1789 and 1793.

Louisa and Angus had 6 children and were the great grandparents of Dr. Henry Norman Bethune. The great grandson of Angus followed in his footsteps to China. Dr. Norman Bethune is a notable Canadian who continues to be revered as a hero in China. His achievements include developing new treatments for tuberculosis, and introducing mobile blood services.

Angus Bethune died in Toronto in 1858. Louisa died in 1833 while Angus was stationed at the Michipicoten Post. She is buried in a small cemetery across from the post on the north bank of the Michipicoten River.

Free Tuition For Hundreds Of Thousands Of Ontario Students New Ontario Student Assistance Program Now Accepting Applications Ontario is now accepting applications for the new Ontario Student Assistance Program, which is making tuition free for more than 210,000 students.

Premier Kathleen Wynne met with high school students at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School in Toronto today to talk about how the new OSAP will help more students pursue higher education based on their ability to learn -- not on their ability to pay.

In addition to providing free tuition to hundreds of thousands of students each year, the new OSAP will also provide more generous grants. By next year, it is estimated that some 230,000 students receiving OSAP will have less debt as a result of these changes.

All students are encouraged to visit ontario.ca/OSAP to start their applications today.

Removing the financial barriers to higher learning and making postsecondary educa-

tion more affordable is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.

An Incident While Canvassing It is April 2017, and it is the time of year when I knock on doors, doing my canvassing for the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. I have my regular route that my captain has assigned to me. Since my captain is also my brother, and the Secretary on the executive of the local branch I don't have much choice. At least he has given me a route that is nearby, so I can walk from home. I know most of the neighbours along the way too, so it gives me a great chance to have a chat and get caught up on the gossip. Most of them have lived in this neighbourhood for many years.

There is one house, though, that has new occupants. It is 3 blocks up the street from me. It was formerly owned by a long time resident, Mr. Roger Preston and his wife Marjie. Unfortunately he passed away last fall, and she didn't need such a big house for just herself. So she moved into a seniors apartment out near the hospital. That was in November.

I was surprised to see the house occupied just after Christmas. It was a young couple in their late twenties, with two small children. I learned from my neighbour friend, John Vanderbush, that their names were Henri and Helene Bilodeau. The kids names were Marcel and Madeleine. He was about seven, and she was five, I guess. Apparently he was a former biker from a notorious club in Montreal, and had moved here in the witness protection program. John told me that Marjie had confided to his wife Rita, who in turn told him, that she had rented the house out to the RCMP. It is supposed to be confidential, but poor Marjie is such a blabbermouth. She just can't keep a secret to save her soul, he stated. It's true too. I know. But that's another story for another day.

He had gotten out of the gang, and snitched to the cops. They had moved him up here to the Soo from Montreal, to keep him out of sight until he was needed as a witness at the trial that would ensue after they arrested the gang leaders. The undercover cops were still setting up the sting, so it would be a while before he would be needed to testify. John told me that he saw them as they moved a cube van full of furniture into the house. To him, it looked like pretty ratty stuff. They had an old blue and white Ford Thunderbird coupe that was in pretty bad shape. John was sure that it was an early sixties model. He was an old car buff, and he drooled over that Thunderbird, commenting on how he would love to get his hands on it, and fix it up. He also drooled when Henri unloaded a huge 'hog' of a Harley off a trailer a couple of days later. It was obviously his biker bike.

John and I went over to introduce ourselves, and welcome them to the neighbourhood, (and okay just being nosy) a few days after they moved in. Henri came to the door, and opened it just a crack, obviously wary of who was at his door. We told him our names, and where we lived, just to break the ice. It wasn't until

John commented on his car and bike that he warmed up. He went back inside and grabbed a coat, and came back out. He gave us a 'tour' of the car first, parked in the driveway. John explained about being into restoration projects, and detailed what he would do to this car, if he had a chance. That sure broke the ice with Henri.

Then we went into the garage.

That was when he had a chance to brag about his bike, clearly his pride and joy. It was in pristine condition. We oohed and aahed over it.

He invited us into the house for a beer. We sat at an old kitchen table, right out of the fifties. John and Henri soon took over the conversation. Shortly Helene came in the back door with the two kids. She said hi, and explained that she had just been to the park with them. I offered to help get the kids out of their snowsuits. She let me do that, while she took off her coat and boots. She told me that she was going to make some hot chocolate for the kids, and did I want one too. I told her no, that I was having a beer. She said okay, and then took the kids into the living room. I turned my attention back to the conversation at the kitchen table. I had no comments to make, as I wasn't into cars and bikes. Finally the subject got changed to what Henri and his family were doing here. Of course we didn't bring up the 'secret'; and just let him tell his rehearsed story. By the time we left we both felt they seemed like a nice family. We had other visits over the next while, and we got to know them even better.

I knocked on their door this particular evening, April 3rd to be exact, for my canvassing. I was sure they would not be donating anything, but that was the rule to knock on every door. I immediately sensed something was wrong. As I was waiting for the door to open, I looked back to the street, and took note of a black beat up old half ton truck parked in front of the house. On the aerial was a flag of some kind.

I couldn't make it all out, as it was drooping down. But I thought part of it looked like a helmet that motor cyclists wore. Just then I was interrupted when a big burly man came to the door, and opened it just a crack. He seemed nervous. He just grunted a 'what'. I asked him if I could speak to Henri or Helene. He glared at me through the crack, and mumbled, “Uh, they are out right now.” I pressed on, sensing trouble. “When will they be back? I need to talk to them asap.”

He hesitated, as if unsure what to say next to make me go away.

“Umm, they've gone away for a few days. Not sure when they'll be back.” Before I could ask anything else, he slammed the door shut in my face.

I stood there for a moment, wondering what to do. I decided to check out the garage. I peeked in the side window, and sure enough the car and bike were both there.

I debated whether to run over to John's place, which was three doors down on the opposite side

of the street. From where I was standing, it looked like he was not home. So I decided to check it out myself. I climbed up onto the stoop and peeked in the kitchen window. I immediately ducked down, as I saw a tall man at the stove. I counted to five before poking my head up again. There was no sign of him. I could then see he had a pot of water on the stove. On the counter beside it was what looked like a tire iron.

Just then he came back into the kitchen. He picked up the iron, and placed the tip of it into the boiling water.

Of course, my first thought was that he was going to use that to torture Henri or maybe Helene and the kids too. These two thugs were likely from that Montreal biker gang. I only gave a fleeting thought about how they had tracked them here. I just guessed they wanted to find out how much he had told the cops about their operations.

I was in a dilemma. What should I do? I knew that I should go next door and get someone to call the cops. But that would take too much time. I sensed an urgency that required action right away. My adrenaline kicked in, and I made my move, not really thinking, or having a plan. I scampered back to the garage, and went inside. I was looking for a weapon. All I could find at first look was a shovel – too big and cumbersome. I frantically looked around for something else. As I laid my canvassing kit on the work bench, I noticed a can of black spray paint. My first thought was that it would work to spray in one of guys' faces.

The only other item that I could quickly lay my hands on was the broom beside the door. So I grabbed it, and stuck the can of paint in my jacket pocket. I was ready for action.

Thinking about it now, I marvel at both my stupidity and cockiness. I have been watching way too much TV – thinking I could just barge in, knock out the bad guys, and rescue the victims.

Well, it sort of worked out that way. Let me explain.

I returned to the back door to peek in. I was just in time to see the tall man disappear out of the kitchen with that tire iron in his right hand. He was wearing an oven mitt so as not to burn his hand, I noticed. There was no sign of the burly man who answered the door before. He's likely interrogating them I surmised.

I took a deep breath, before trying the door. I hoped that it was unlocked. To my relief it was.

So I quietly turned the knob, and opened it. I got inside and shut the door behind me. I stopped to listen for any sounds, and to get my bearings. I jumped when the oil furnace kicked in. I almost swore out loud, startled at the sound. Thanks to that, I could not hear any other noises as I headed towards the living room to start with. I poked my head in, and saw that no one was there. I quickly scanned the room. My attention fell on the coffee table.

Their phone was there. I had enough sense to call 911, before I went any further with my crazy scheme. I had just hung up when I heard the first scream. It was Helene. Then I heard Henri calling out, “No, leave her alone. I'll tell you everything.”

I then realized they were being held down in the basement. I headed over to the door. My first

impulse was to fling it open and rush down the stairs to 'rescue' them. I had my hand on the knob when I stopped. My second thought was to draw them upstairs to me, instead of me walking into them. I just hoped the police would get here quickly enough to capture them before I got into trouble myself. I knew that I couldn't hold them off for long.

So before thinking it through too much, I opened the door, and yelled down, “Police. Come up with your hands in the air. The house is surrounded. You can't get away. Surrender peacefully, and it will go well for you.” I realized how silly that sounded, like it would be only something you say on TV or in the movies. But it got a reaction – a bullet whizzed by my right ear as the pistol was fired up at me. I recoiled, and backed away into the kitchen. I heard one set of footsteps coming up. I fumbled for the paint can in my pocket, got it out into my left hand, shaking it to get it primed, and finding the trigger.

I leaned against the side of the stove, ready to spray the first guy's face. In my right hand I held the broom handle, hoping to be able to knock the wind out of the second guy with a thrust of it into his stomach, or across his face, if I had a chance.

It sounded like a good idea.

Unfortunately for me, it didn't go according to plan. The tall guy burst through first, and faced me.

I pressed the trigger, and nothing happened. I realized then that it was likely frozen, after sitting out in the garage through all of this cold. I dropped it to the ground, and grabbed the broom handle in both hands, swinging it like a lance. I missed him. Then my eyes zeroed in on the pistol in his hand, and watched, as if hypnotized, as he slowly pulled the trigger. I snapped out of it, and stepped sideways towards the kitchen table, just as the pistol went off. In that instant, I felt a sharp pain in my right shoulder.

I knew I had been hit. I grabbed onto one of the chairs, lost my balance, and fell to the floor, with the chair on top of me. The pain was intense, and I could feel myself going into shock. The two of them leaned over me, glaring with such a cold blooded look. It scared me. The big burly guy bent over me, and yanked me to my feet. “Get him down to the basement. We'll finish him off there. I just want to check to see if anyone outside might of heard the shot.

Damn these nosy guys who want to be heroes. When will they ever learn to stay out of our way!”

The tall guy got behind my back, and pushed me towards the basement door. I tried to resist, but the pain in my bleeding shoulder had taken over. Just at the top of the stairs, I had a quick look down into the dimly lit basement.

The steps were steep and rickety looking. There was no railing.

Just to my left, I saw Helene tied up to a chair, with a terrified look, peering up at me. I suspected the others were in the same predicament. I was just about to take my first step down when I felt the broom handle hit me in the back of the head. I began tumbling down the stairs. I vaguely remember rolling and bouncing down until I hit the cold cement floor. I blacked out.

The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital. My wife, Laura, was by my side. John and Henri were also there. I got a

great big kiss from Laura, a calling down from John for being so stupid, and finally Henri thanking me for saving him and his family's lives. He went on to explain that the police arrived just after I had tumbled down the stairs.

There was a shootout, and those two thugs were both killed in the kitchen. I was right, they were wanting to know how much he had told the cops. I was so sedated that I just lay there, listening to the words, and then began to nod off. I just about fell totally asleep when I jerked awake with a start. I cried out, “Where is my canvassing kit? I've got $125.00 collected.

I can't lose that. I gotta finish my route tonight. Oh, my, what will I tell my brother if I have lost that book and money?”

Laura just smiled and chuckled. “Leave it to you to think of that! It is okay. I have the kit at home. He will see you tomorrow. You have a battered body, to say the least. I think he will understand why you can't finish your route. Now just go back to sleep. I'll see you tomorrow.” I felt myself calming down – she always had that effect on me. The last thing I remember was Henri calling out, “Hero. Thanks again.”

It is now Wednesday, April 5th, and I am reading all about my 'heroics' in the paper. The headline reads: 'Jerry Witt Saves 4 Lives'. Talk about getting the facts wrong, and exaggerating the story, just to sell more papers!

The TV report was just as bad, using such words as brave and hero. I don't know where they got that photo of me that they plastered all over the screen. I hope Laura didn't give it to them. The interview with Laura made me blush, with her emotional words of praise. I was a bit annoyed with Henri, as he blathered on about what a hero I was to have come to the rescue. Really it was enough to say it privately like he did. That was all the words I needed to hear. But it's done.

This will all die down now, I hope.

As for me, all I can think of is how foolhardy I was to get involved in this whole thing. I know I should have gone for help instead. But I just knew they were in trouble and I had to do something. Anyway, it worked out okay Yesterday Henri dropped in and handed me a cheque for $100.00 to add to my total amount that I had already collected. I fussed about getting him his receipt, but he told me I could do it later. It is not a big deal, he concluded. I told him okay, but was immediately mentally trying to figure out how to get Laura to bring the receipt book to me so I could get that written and delivered to him. Then I debated about chastising him for his TV interview, but decided to just let that go. Too bad they have to be moved to a new safe house.

(There is also a big investigation of how the supposed safe house was discovered. Heads will roll I expect. I just hope Marjie won't get into trouble.)

As great as that donation was, my greatest delight was that I helped save these 4 lives from being murdered. The worst part of all of this has been all the fuss that everyone has made. But thank goodness the cops arrived when they did. If they had got there any later, I wouldn't be here, telling this story from my hospital bed. And - well, you just never know what can happen while canvassing! - Jerry Witt.

On Thursday, March 30th LDHC Foundation Board Members enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

To date the Legion Ladies Auxiliary have donated $400.00 locally and $7,000.00 provincially to the Foundation. Thank you to the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for their continued support!

There is still time to donate to the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation’s “Spring Ahead to Better Health Care” Campaign. All donations to this current campaign will support the retrofit of the

existing radiography equipment for the x-ray department. Organizations like the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and individuals like you make it possible to fund capital equipment purchases for the

local hospital.

About the Legion Ladies Auxiliary The Legion Ladies Auxiliary is a group of dedicated women who are continually working hard to assist the Local Branch in its activities. Their many fundraising activities throughout the year support the local Legion Branch, health facilities and programs, school activities and bursaries. For the past two years, this group of volunteers have been preparing a luncheon on the last Thursday of every month for the community. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help replace the current kitchen floor in the Legion building.
