Article & photos by Barb Fisher It has been a busy summer for me covering the many varied summer events taking place in our great community.

In recent years I have hung my net in drydock and rely on the diehard fisherpeople to bring me up to speed on the excitement of landing the "big one", and this year with the 101 teams registered there was a boatload of excitement going on.

This is the 36th year that Brad Buck has hosted the Wawa Salmon Derby; an exposition in angling expertise sprinkled with a generous dose of fish story tales.

In the early years Brad partnered with Gary Sittler and together co-founded the derby, the headquarters and weigh-in station initially being located at the old ski hill and later moved to the present Marina where every August since, this premiere event in fishing at

Sunday again featured a pancake breakfast and promptly at 1:00 pm all lines were pulled as the prizes were readied for presentation with a delectable aroma of the simmering roast beef dinner following percolating throughout the crowd. In my search for a unique fishing story this year I chatted with Rebecca Lebel who together with her partner Dustan Knee had landed a big salmon on Friday weighing in at 16.95 lbs. Rebecca was doulbly pleased because she was fishing from the boat that her father Steve had used in many a derby and many successful fishing trips. Steve has recently passed away but Rebecca could feel the presence of her dad as she pulled in the big one taking the prize for the biggest salmon caught on Friday of derby weekend.

its finest has all unfolded.The weather was stellar with calm seas giving no extra grief for the 101 registered teams to exercise their angling wiles.... or luck, to bring in the big one.

Friday was officially registration day for the three day event, but for the five days leading up to Friday, anglers could sumit their catch to be eligible for the pre-derby prize for each of these five days.

Saturday morning filled the fishermen's tummies with a great pancake breakfast and set the pace for the anglers to get out on the lake and fill their boats before returning at dusk for the evening fish fry. I walked about the marina, checking out the slips and boardwalk repairs that have been wanting for some time now. Everyone seemed to be happy with the repairs and glad to have left their rubber boots at home this year. There is still some work to be com-

ONTARIO ENERGY BOARD NOTICE Hydro One Networks Inc. has applied to the Ontario Energy Board to build a high-voltage transmission line.

Hydro One Networks Inc. is asking the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for permission to expand the electricity transmission network in the area between Wawa and Thunder Bay. This involves the construction of approximately 403 kilometres of 230 kilovolt overhead electricity transmission line connecting Lakehead Transformer Station and Wawa Transformer Station (Lake Superior Link Project).

Hydro One Networks Inc. is also asking the OEB to approve the form of agreement it offers to landowners to use their land for routing or construction of the proposed Lake Superior Link Project.

THE OEB IS HOLDING A PUBLIC HEARING

and to be involved in the process.

The OEB will hold a public hearing to consider Hydro One Networks Inc.’s requests.

During this hearing, the OEB will consider evidence and arguments by Hydro One Networks Inc. and by individuals, municipalities and others whose interests would be affected.

The OEB hearing will consider specific issues determined by law. The Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 (the Act) specifies the issues the OEB is to consider in making its decision. If you wish to participate in the OEB hearing, it is important for you to understand what these issues are.

As required by the Act, the OEB will consider three issues: • The interests of consumers with respect to prices and the reliability and quality of electricity service; • The promotion of the use of renewable energy sources in a manner consistent with the policies of the Government of Ontario; and • The form of agreement that Hydro One Networks Inc. offers to landowners affected by the route or location of the transmission line.

The Lieutenant Governor in Council made an order effective March 4, 2016 declaring that the expansion or reinforcement of the electricity transmission network in the area between Wawa and Thunder Bay is needed as a priority project (Priority Project Designation). The Priority Project Designation affects the OEB’s review of an application for leave to construct an electricity transmission line.

In particular, the OEB is required to accept that the construction is needed when it considers the three issues listed above. The Priority Project Designation is available under the “Priority Transmission Projects” section on the OEB’s website: https://www.oeb.ca/industry/policy-initiatives-and-consultations/prioritytransmission-projects The OEB hearing is not the only approval process required before a line is built.

For example, most transmission lines are subject to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks’ environmental assessment process.

The OEB’s review will only address the three issues outlined above and will not address other matters, such as environmental, health, aesthetics or property value impacts.

The OEB is an independent and impartial public agency. We make decisions that serve the public interest. Our goal is to promote a financially viable and efficient energy sector that provides you with reliable energy services at a reasonable cost.

BE INFORMED AND HAVE YOUR SAY You have the right to information regarding Hydro One Networks Inc.’s application

• You can view Hydro One Networks Inc.’s application on the OEB’s website now.

• You can file a letter with your comments, which will be considered during the hearing.

• You can ask the OEB for permission to be an active participant in the hearing (an intervenor). Intervenors can provide evidence, argue their positions and submit relevant questions to be answered by Hydro One Networks Inc. (interrogatories). To be an intervenor, a party must be affected by the transmission line in a way that relates directly to the issues the OEB will consider. If you wish to be an intervenor, the OEB must receive your request by September 4, 2018.

AVIS DE LA COMMISSION DE L’ÉNERGIE DE L’ONTARIO Hydro One Networks Inc. a déposé une requête auprès de la Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario en vue de construire une ligne de transport à haute tension.

Hydro One Networks Inc. demande à la Commission de l’énergie de l’Ontario (CEO) l’autorisation d’étendre le réseau de transport d’électricité dans la zone située entre Wawa et Thunder Bay. Ce projet comprend la construction d’une ligne de transport d’électricité aérienne de 230 kilovolts et d’environ 403 kilomètres reliant le poste de transformation de Lakehead et le poste de transformation de Wawa (projet de liaison du lac Supérieur).

Hydro One Networks Inc. demande également à la CEO d’approuver la forme de l’entente qu’elle propose aux propriétaires fonciers afin d’utiliser leurs terres pour le tracé ou la construction du projet de liaison du lac Supérieur.

L’audience de la CEO portera sur des éléments précis déterminés par la loi. Le lieutenant-gouverneur en conseil a pris un décret le 4 mars 2016 indiquant que l’expansion ou le renforcement du réseau de transport d’électricité dans la zone entre Wawa et Thunder Bay est un projet prioritaire (désignation de projet prioritaire). La désignation de projet prioritaire influe sur l’examen d’une demande d’autorisation de construction d’une ligne de transport d’électricité auquel procède la CEO. Plus particulièrement, la CEO est tenue d’accepter le caractère nécessaire de la construction lorsqu’elle prend en compte les trois éléments susmentionnés. La désignation de projet prioritaire est disponible (en anglais) dans la section « Projets prioritaire - transport d’électricité » du site Web de la CEO : https://www.oeb.ca/fr/ industrie/initiatives-et-consultations/projets-prioritaires-transport-delectricite En plus de l’audience de la CEO, d’autres processus sont requis avant de pouvoir construire une ligne. Par exemple, la plupart des lignes de transport doivent être soumises au processus d’évaluation environnementale du ministère de l’Environnement, de la Protection de la nature et des Parcs. Team Jacobs Meet & Greet At Credit Union

Article and photo by Barb Fisher Wawa's sports enthusiasts were offered an opportunity to chat with members of the reknown curling champions Team Jacobs. Skip Brad Jacobs and Ryan Fry of the Sault Ste Marie men's curling team known as Team Jacobs stopped at our Credit Union the teams' title sponsor, to show off some serious metal and answer questions on what their illustrious career in championship curling has meant in their lives. The other two members of the foursome, Ryan Harnden and EJ Harnden were also busy elsewhere scheduling their stops as the foursome are sharing their time to cover 31 communities across northern Ontario over the summer.

The guys all started curling at an early age and in developing their curling skills came to realize that the secret to becoming a winner in any sport was to follow a strict physical regime, diet and healthy lifestyle. In acknowledging their curling skills, they are competing as athletes. In the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Brad and his team clinched a 9-3 victory in the finals defeating Great

Britain in a well fought match in their game winning the coveted "Gold Medal". Since Sochi, the team has continued working hard and winning championship cups in the years following with their eyes never straying far from a repeat performance in a future Winter Olympics games.

Many Wawa curling buffs visited the event to chat with the team members, get an autographed picture or a personal signature on their broom, photos taken and lots of exciting encouragement was offered to the several youngsters attending. I chatted a bit with Mya Rilley and her sisters Ella and Sydney. Mya is an aspiring curling athlete who joins in the curling program offered by her school Ecole St Joseph, and Ella and Sydney will reach the required age this winter for them to also join the school's curling program. The opportunity to meet and chat with successful athletes is a super way to encourage small town northern Ontario future stars to strive for excellence in their endeavours.

You can follow Team Jacobs on their website as they pave their way to "Gold" once again in the next Winter Olympics.

The 'Jaws' Mystery Summer was here, and it was hot. So people were flocking to Sandy Beach on Lake Superior to soak up some sun and go for a nice cold dip in the water that Saturday in August five years ago. This was when it all began.

A group of about twenty teenagers we re having a party that started in late afternoon, and was just getting warmed up by early evening. Someone had brought a boombox, and cranked the music up loud. That discouraged others from staying, and so it wasn't long before they had the beach all to themselves. There was lots of activity, what with them coming in and out of the water, playing volley ball thanks to someone bringing a net they 'borrowed' from the tennis court in town, smoking whatever, and drinking of course. About seven someone got a hibachi going to do hot dogs. Others had brought the condiments, potato chips, pop, and most importantly - more beer, liquor, and 'medicinal' drugs – you know, for indigestion after all the eating and drinking! A couple of the teenagers had already passed out, while others were 'mellowed' out. It went on until just after midnight. It was finally broken up when some of the parents arrived on the scene. They began rounding up the party goers. One car was left that had brought four of them. One of the girls, Rita, realized that her boyfriend, Graydon, was not around to drive them home. She became panicky as she began calling out for him. She ran down to the beach from the parking lot where the car was parked, calling his name. She began running up and down the beach, with still no sign of him. She became frantic.

The others got involved too, combing the dunes, as well as the shoreline, with no luck. One of the parents suggested that it was too dark to do anything that night.

They should all go home, and start fresh in the morning. Maybe he left with someone else as he knew he was not capable to drive his own car, one of the parents suggested.

That was shot down by the teenagers. One of the other parents called 911. Two other parents waited for the police to get there. That took about half an hour. The officer, Cpl. Rick Finn, began questioning them, to get an idea what he was up against. He agreed with the parents that it was no good trying to find him that night, in the dark.

He put in a call to the canine unit, and the Search and Rescue squad, to be there for first thing Sunday morning.

Rita was distraught and hysterical. She didn't want to leave, but was being urged do go by both Finn and the parents.

Just then one of the other teens piped up, “You know, I think that I remember Graydon saying he was going to walk down the beach towards the camp there to get some driftwood to start a bonfire. But that was a lot earlier – maybe eight or so.” Another teenager then piped up, “Yeah, I remember him saying he was going to go in for a quick swim and then get the wood for that fire.” Rita then added her thoughts, “You know, now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing him since about that time too. I was in a good place by then, and wasn't paying attention to what was happening. I should have noticed that

he was gone. It's all my fault.” She began to sob and shake uncontrollably. One of the parents went over to console her, and finally getting her to compose herself.

Finn realized it was likely the best therapy for her to feel like she was doing something to find him, so he said to her, “Well, then, Rita, you come with me. You other three might as well come too. If we don't find him, I will drive you home in my cruiser. The rest of you can go now. I will let you know what we find out in the morning unless we find him before that. We'll be here bright and early, if necessary.

But don't worry. I am sure he will show up.” The remaining parents were not happy about this, but got it. He obviously understood kids better than they did, so with that, they broke up, going their separate ways. The officer and his 'posse' began heading down the beach, with his flashlight casting a beam of light around as they scoured the bushes and beach. One of the boys commented that it reminded him of Luke Skywalker's green laser weapon from 'Star Wars'. There were a couple of groans, but no one said anything to him. They were too intent on finding Graydon. They kept calling out his name as they worked their way down the beach.

They came upon the camp. It was all in darkness. Finn knocked on the door, but got no answer. There was no vehicle in the driveway either. It was obvious that no one was home. They looked around the building and surrounding area for signs. There were none. No one had been around here in days. They worked their back to the parking lot.

Despite their reluctance to leave, he was finally able to get them to understand that they could do no more that night. So they got in his cruiser and he drove them home.

On Sunday morning at six o'clock it was really foggy on Sandy Beach where everyone had gathered again.

Finn was surprised to see them there so early. But he knew that he couldn't keep them away. It was an eerie scene, with the quietness, the fog and accompanying fog horn occasionally breaking the stillness, and the gentle lapping of the water on the shore.

The canine unit leader, Cpl Stewart Sharkton, brought his dog out of the van to get him primed for the scent that he was to track down. He commented to everyone, “I am going to take him on a quick scouting of the area, just to get him familiar with the layout. I promise to not get lost in this fog. I hope it soon lifts. But in the meantime, everybody just stay put.” The dog, Finder, knew it was time to go to work, and immediately began sniffing the sand. They headed down the beach, going in the opposite direction from that camp that the others had checked out last night.

He had not gone thirty feet when he disappeared from view. Spooky, one of the teenage boys whispered.

Less than a minute later, they heard Finder barking. Sharkton called out for Finn to come to him. The rest of them followed too.

When Finn got there, he looked down to where the dog was sitting. He uttered, “Oh, my God!” It was a severed arm that Sharkton had pulled out of the water. He then realized the 'civilians' were gathering around too. He tried to move them away, but it was too

late. They all saw the grizzly sight and gasped as they covered their mouths. A couple of the teenagers threw up.

Sharkton apologized, “I am sorry you had to see this. Does it look like it might be from your friend?”

Rita confirmed it for them all.

In a weak whisper she said, “Yes, that's him. That tattoo on his arm.

He just had that done last month as a graduation gift for himself.”

She paused and took a deep breath before adding, “And me.” At that point she collapsed onto the sand.

They rushed over to revive her.

Meanwhile, one of the parents asked an obvious question. “Can you find the rest of the body?”

Sharkton answered. “We are going to continue our search ahead now.

You can take care of things here, right, Finn?” He assured him that he could do that, but felt that Sharkton had made a dig about his competency to control a crowd. He let it pass, though. The search is the focus right now, he reminded himself.

The fog started to burn off, and by the time Sharkton got to the end of the beach where the rocks took over, it had cleared away altogether.

That was good, too, as he might not have noticed the rest of the body washed up on the rocks. He clambered over them until he got to the battered, bloody, scratched body of Graydon. He pulled him off the rocks and laid what was left of the body on the sand. He called Finn to come over, but leave the others behind. To his relief, they obeyed him.

The two of them had a conversation about the condition of the body. Both were thinking it, but it was Finn who said it out loud, “This looks like a shark attack. Look at those serrations of his severed arm. That is something that even smashing up against rocks could never do. But we don't have sharks in Lake Superior. Bizarre, huh?”

Sharkton agreed, but concluded, “Yeah, you're right. But it's not for us to say. Let the coroner come up with that one. Get a blanket from my van to wrap the body in. We don't want those folks seeing this part as well. Bad enough they saw the arm. I knew it was a bad idea for civilians to be on this type of search.”

Finn ignored the jab, knowing the teenagers and parents concern.

It would take a whole regimen of cops to keep them away. Instead he just said, “Okay, I'll get these folks moved back to the parking lot.”

They were pretty angry about it, but reluctantly headed back as requested. When they asked about what happened to Graydon, he just said it was too soon to know for sure. He grabbed the blanket and went back to where Sharkton was waiting.

They got the body wrapped and taken away.

Word spread around town quickly, of course, about his gruesome death. The entire beach area was cordoned off for the rest of the week. But it was re-opened for the following weekend. It had continued being scorching hot all week and still was that way on the following weekend. Lots of people came down to get relief from the heat. A few hardy souls ventured out into the cold water, despite the stories, and warnings.

Then about three o'clock in the afternoon, it happened! A female swimmer in her mid twenties headed out further from shore. Her friend, Diana, knew Alicia was a strong swimmer, so wasn't concerned that she might get carried out by the undertow. Diana was sitting in a beach chair with her wide brimmed hat and sunglasses, reading a book. She kept looking up every once in a while to check

on Alicia. On this particular look, she did a double take. She took off her sunglasses, and stood up. She couldn't be sure what she was really seeing. About twenty feet behind Alicia was an object that reminded her of a shark fin. 'Jaws!' Naah, she uttered. It must just be an old tree branch or something like that. Then it disappeared below the water. She blinked her eyes several times, just to be sure she saw it right. “No, it just bobbed below the surface with that wave. It will pop up again in a moment,”she thought to herself. It did. The fin, and the entire body of a twenty foot tiger shark bolted out of the water, and landed on her body. That forced her head up, right into the jaws of that shark. She let out a blood-curdling scream before she disappeared under the water.

Then Diana saw the pool of blood amassing on the water. There was no more sign of the shark for the moment. Then a few seconds later it re-appeared, leaping out of the water once more, this time holding the torso in it's mouth. It shook it's head back and forth as it hit the water, and slowly disappeared again, the fin being the last to go under. By now there was lots of people gathering along the shore, staring out at the horrific scene out in the water. Pandemonium set in as horror and disbelief took over.

'SHARK!' People began mulling around, not sure what to do. Eventually a police boat came out and got onto the lake to look for Alicia and the shark. But they came back empty handed.

One of the local commercial fishermen went out on the lake that evening, to see what he could find, just like in the movie 'Jaws'. He came back okay, and he never spotted any shark, or found any trace of Alicia's body. In fact it never was recovered. Another case of Lake Superior not giving up it's dead.

Over the next few days it became a real topic of conversation.

Everyone had an opinion or theory about the impossibility of a shark in these waters. One shark expert from Sea World in San Diego, California explained that it is known that sharks can adapt to live in both sea and freshwater, just as other species do. One environmentalist suggested global warming and climate change was to blame, which was altering their usual movements, and moving further north as the oceans warmed up. Anyway, lots of debate raged over this horrific event.

On the following Wednesday there was a photo posted on the social media sites, newspapers, and posters that showed what appeared to be a shark fin bobbing in the water at the mouth of the Michipicoten River. In front of that was a 16' cedar strip boat with a man standing up in the rear by the motor, pointing to the fin.

Underneath was the headline: Come to Wawa to see where the first ever shark sighting on Lake Superior occurred. Then come back to Wawa's exclusive restaurant for Shark Fin Soup, a real delicacy.

That caused quite an uproar.

Some folks were upset about this guy trying to drum up business, especially considering the worldwide efforts to ban this killing of sharks just for their fins. But on Thursday morning his body was found washed up on the beach near the mouth of the river. His throat had been slashed with a jagged object – knife or shark teeth? The autopsy report was inconclusive, the media reported. Of course they had to sen-

sationalize it – murder by a human, or murder by shark? Those were the headlines that grabbed peoples' attention. Had someone from the anti shark fin soup business side of the argument murdered him?

Or maybe he had indeed caught the shark, and got it into his boat, and in the ensuing struggle lost his balance, and accidentally cut his throat with a serrated knife as he tipped the boat over, and had fallen into the water. Then maybe he bled to death? But wouldn't the shark have tasted the blood in the water and tore him to pieces? Well, maybe he ended up under the boat, and the shark could not get to him?

How about the shark was scared off by the encounter and struggled getting hauled into the boat, and then getting dumped out of it, so he just swam away to recover? Lots of questions, but no answers.

The following day his boat was found washed up on a sandbar at the mouth of the river. There was a huge hole along one side. It was rumoured that it was likely from the shark attack, although the authorities tried to downplay that fear by suggesting it could have been caused by smashing along the rocky shore before finally getting beached on the sand. That was all part of the debate, and it became the talk of the town for the rest of the summer. It was never resolved, and by the fall it became a cold case, as the kids went back to school and vacations were over.

No more shark sightings were reported on Lake Superior until that Saturday in August, exactly one year since the first occurrence.

But this time there were 2 sharks spotted out in Michipicoten Bay by a couple of people walking along the Old Government Dock beach.

Before long, the word had spread all over town. The rumour mill had the story as being a mass migration to the area. Also out there was a suggestion that maybe it was a pair that came here to mate, and then there would be who knows how many babies to watch out for later on. It hit its' peak when it was reported that Walter Sharkington, a well known local fisherman who spent lots of time out on the Lake, had not returned from a day of fishing, the same Saturday as the sighting. His wife reported him missing on Monday. A search party headed out to look for him. All they found was his small aluminum boat turned upside down on the rocks, about ten km down the coast from the mouth of the river. There was no sign of him, but there was what appeared to be dried blood on the side of the boat, and a big dent in the aluminum. No one could be sure if it was from a shark attack, or just from being battered on the rocks.

As of this Wednesday in mid August he is still missing and presumed dead. It's odd, though that no other sightings of sharks has occurred – just that one day. It's a real mystery. Was it really sharks the couple saw that started the buzz in the first place? Or if they were really there, did they just move on to another part of the Lake. Will there be more this year, or is that it? It's just a matter of time most folks fear. Now there is concern about what might happen during the Salmon Fish Derby coming up this weekend. Last year it was a hot topic, and nearly got canceled, although they finally did decide to go ahead with it. We'll see soon enough what happens with that, and just the expectation of more shark sightings that lingers for the rest of this year.

RANCOURT, Maurice Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Lady Dunn Health Centre on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Proud and loving father of Pauline Baughan, Marlene, Gary and Louise Lamon (Derek). Amazing and loving Poppa of Monique “Nickee” (Jon), Dieter (Sarah), Cody Lee (Isabelle), Derek (Kayla), Tanya (Myles) and Zayn. Proud great Poppa of Easton, Addyson, Tripp, Breea and Arya. Son of the late Omer and Lydia Rancourt. Dear brother of late Patrick Rancourt (Sylvia), late Annette Vaillancourt (Gilbert), Claire Porlier (late Leo), Doreen Wright (Doug), Yollande Pilon (Marcel), Denis (Carol), Huguette Niblett (late Mac) and Father Leo Rancourt. Maurice will be fondly remembered by the mother of his children Ella and also by his many nieces and nephews. Maurice moved to Wawa in 1962 and worked at the Brewer’s Retail until his retirement all while volunteering his time to the community. Maurice’s house always had an open door for all of his kids and their friends. Huge family breakfast’s and suppers are fondly remembered. Being all together was the most important thing to him. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Monica’s Church on Friday August 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of his Life at the Royal Canadian Legion. Memorial donations made to the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Drs. Grand Announcement - Partnership Between White Lake Limited Partnership, Harte Gold and Pic Mobert First Nation

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 Pic Mobert First Nation Traditional Territory, Ontario On behalf of the Board of Directors of the White Lake Resources Corp., the general partner for the White Lake Limited Partnership, Marlene Sabourin, President of the Board is today pleased to announce several positive developments in the longstanding relationship with Harte Gold Corp (“Harte Gold”).

This announcement was made at the Harte Gold mine site located in the exclusive traditional territory of the Pic Mobert First Nation near Mobert and White River, Ontario. Among the attendees were Chief Johanna Desmoulin, along with members of the Band Council, the Board of Directors of the White Lake Resources Corporation, staff of Pic Mobert First Nation and White Lake LP, Pic Mobert First Nation members, and officials of Harte Gold.

White Lake LP has been working closely with mine officials to develop and implement a variety of business opportunities that were identified under the terms of an Impact Benefit Agreement signed earlier this year between Pic Mobert First Nation and Hart Gold. These opportunities are intended to meet the needs of the company and provide economic and employment opportunities for the benefit of Pic Mobert First Nation membership. To date, this partnership has yielded numerous and substantial contracts including the following: • The development and operation of a 100-person camp located in White River, including catering services, which White Lake LP is delivering through its joint ventures

with the Morris Group and Outland Camps; • The provision of onsite security and related services by Anishinabek Total Security Solutions, which is a partnership between White Lake LP and Norpro Company; • The provision of labour services through which White Lake LP places occasional general labourers from the Pic Mobert First Nation on the mine site – this not only provides needed support for mine operations, but also provides an opportunity for employees to gain work experience and explore future opportunities for direct employment with Harte Gold.

These contracts are in line with White Lake LP’s business strategy to build a diversified portfolio of business capabilities that create value for the community and businesses operating within the Pic Mobert First Nation exclusive traditional territory and surrounding region. Officials of White Lake LP and Harte Gold are currently finalizing a longterm procurement strategy that will guide future projects between both parties for mutually beneficial outcomes.

Chief Desmoulin said “The Harte Gold mine site is in the exclusive traditional territory of Pic Mobert First Nation and as such I am delighted to see these outcomes of our long and productive working relationship with Harte Gold”.

She added, “I am particularly encouraged to see our community members working here on-site and directly benefitting from the natural resources of our traditional and ancestral lands that our People have lived on for time immemorial.”, Sabourin said “We are very

happy to be building a very strong and mutually beneficial business relationship with Harte Gold and look forward to providing quality and costeffective services to the company over the entirety of its mine life”.

Stephen G. Roman, President and CEO of Harte Gold, commented “We have worked with Pic Mobert since taking on the Project in 2009 and over that time have built a strong partnership. Pic Mobert has been with us every step of the way, from early stage exploration, the 70,000-tonne bulk sample and 30,000 tonne phase I commercial production through to full scale phase II commercial production scheduled to begin this September.

With final mine permitting in sight, we look forward to the next ten years and beyond as we continue near-mine and property-wide exploration programs on the regional scale 83,500 HA Sugar Zone Property. Pic Mobert First Nation and Harte Gold are a lesson to all of Canada on how to successfully work together and develop trust and understanding and accomplish great things that will be for everyone’s benefit in the region.”

Using a 3 g/t Au cut-off, the Mineral Resource Estimate dated February 15, 2018 contains an Indicated Mineral Resource Estimate of 2,607,000 tonnes grading 8.52 g/t for 714,200 ounces of contained gold and an Inferred Mineral Resource Estimate of 3,590,000 tonnes, grading 6.59 g/t for 760,800 ounces of contained gold. Harte Gold also holds the StoughtonAbitibi property located on the Destor-Porcupine Fault Zone, east of Timmins, Ontario, and adjacent to the Holloway Gold Mine.
