people including Tina Smith, Kayley Kettles and Jean Marc Bourque RMT. When you first register for the program there is a per-appointment worksheet which also includes a consent form and a liability form. “But the really important part,” says Dr Lafleur is "what am I smoking for, why do I want to quit, what is it I don’t like about smoking, what is it that I do like about smoking. The parts you like about that will be the things
that are going to trigger you. Those are the things that you need to enter into your head, and the tools we have given you enter into the picture.” “Tina and I love the program,” adds Lafleur. “It’s fantastic! There are good questions for people to really think about. Do I want to quit smoking. It’s a choice! You are not stuck and when you start putting something down on paper, you really do realize ‘I can make a choice.' When you come in for your first initial assessment, we do chat. We ask you questions. We want to know what makes you tick. We want to help you. If we don’t get to know you,
we can’t help you. We have to know what your triggers are.” “I’m a non-smoker myself,” shares Tina who has studied addiction and has work experience in the addiction field. “So I get what it’s like to quit smoking and it’s not easy. I know it’s not just the physical addiction, it’s the emotional and mental addiction that is harder to conquer than the actual physical.” Tina has also been through a stop smoking program that was terrible. “I had been through one and there was no preparation which I think is a big piece. It’s a huge commitment to make and you’ve got to prepare yourself. It’s like saying goodbye to your best friend. And you can’t just shut that off. You’ve got to psych yourself up for it and prepare yourself." "There is a pre appointment workshop,” adds Dr. Lafleur, a chiropractor, acupuncturist, homeopathic practitioner, etc. “We evaluate you. You come in for an initial laser acupuncture treatment; we give you a booster within 48 hours. From there it’s individualized. The standard is four laser treatments within a three month period. As far as we know, everybody who has used the program are still non-smokers. We’re looking at a 100% success rate at this point.” If you wish to contact Dr. Lafleur or any one of the cli-
nicians, call 705-856-4321, check out the Northern Naturals Facebook page, send an email to northerncsreception@gmail.com; or you can just walk in to 31 Broadway Avenue in Wawa. “We did purchase the Class 3B Laser, and as clinicians we’re pretty pumped, excited and happy to have the service.” The Laser machine does double duty, not just for the Break Free program. Dr. Lafleur uses it in her chiropractic and musculoskeletal programs. "It’s just double duty, the Break Free program is new and it’s a huge addition to our practice.” When receiving laser therapy, you are asked to wear special glasses and to close your eyes. There is the technical aspect to the program. It uses traditional Chinese acupuncture points on the hands, face and ear that have access to the brain and those access points are what trigger brain activity to decrease your cravings for nicotine. Northern Chiropractic Services has become a full-service Alternative Health Clinic. They offer Chiropractic, homeopathy, acupuncture, Break Free – Stop Smoking Solution, the new ChiroThin, Orthotics, Meditation, Reiki, RMT, Kinesiology, and a small Health dispensary. “We are a full-service Health Clinic. We try to help people be healthier.”
