Sault Ste. Marie: The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is proud to support the upcoming Ontario Special Olympics Winter Games in Sault Ste. Marie by adopting seventeen athletes.

Leading the schools in the Adopt an Athlete program was St. Mary’s College who adopted six athletes. The Sault Ste. Marie elementary schools who collected funds to sponsor an athlete were, Holy Cross, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Mary’s French Immersion.

Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Fatima in Elliot Lake each sponsored an athlete as did St. Mary in Massey, Sacred Heart in Espanola and St. Mary’s in Blind River. The board’s four northern schools, St. Joseph French Immersion in Wawa, St. Basil’s in White River, Our Lady of Fatima in Chapleau and Holy Name of Jesus in Hornepayne, combined to sponsor an athlete.

LSSU Fraternity Holds Ice Fishing Tourney For Children’s Hospital

MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State University’s chapter of social fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) calls all area ice fishermen to the second-annual Fishing for a Cure tournament, to be held 6:00 a.m.7:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16th, on Munuscong Bay. The LSSU local effort is part of a nationwide TKE fundraising drive that benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

In 2016, TKE international pledged to raise $2.6 million for St. Jude’s in six years. It raised $2.1 million by 2018 and is on track to surpass the original goal by 2020. LSSU’s TKE chapter raised $800 last year and hopes to surpass $2,000 this year.

St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital was founded by 1960s entertainer and TKE alum Danny Thomas as a pediatric treatment and research facility focused on child catastrophic diseases, particularly leukemia and other cancers. The main hospital is in Memphis, Tenn., with eight satellite clin-

Algoma District School Board Makes The Move To Cashless Schools On Monday, Algoma District School Board (ADSB) launches School Cash Online at all its schools. School Cash Online is an easy to use, safe and convenient way for parents and guardians to pay online for school activities, such as field trips, lunches, fundraisers, milk programs and yearbooks.

“We have been in conversation with our families for the past year or so and know they will welcome this option.

Cashless schools makes it easier for parents and guardians to perform some of the administrative tasks they are asked to take care of on a regular basis”, said Executive Superintendent of Business and Operations, Joe Santa Maria.

“Our primary goals were to provide more security for students and parents paying fees, reduce teacher and administrative time spent on managing money and improve communications between the home and school. School Cash Online

has a proven track record and we feel confident our families and staff will embrace this new technology.”

For parents and guardians, School Cash Online makes payments more convenient, safer and easier to manage and track and helps them avoid missing information or missing payments. They can also approve permission forms online and make secure payments direct from their bank account, using the device most convenient for them.

Payments for school activities by cash are still accepted, but the new School Cash Online option will be the preferred method of payment for all ADSB schools.

Parents and guardians of ADSB students are encouraged to register for School Cash Online by visiting https://adsb. schoolcashonline.com/. A link is also accessible through the Board’s website www.adsb. on.ca.

Ontario Helping With Recreational Cannabis Costs Municipalities to Receive Second Payment after Opt-Out Deadline Article by the Ministry of Finance Ontario's Government for the People is assisting municipalities with the cost of legalizing cannabis and combatting the illegal market by providing a second payment of $15 million by the end of February to help safeguard communities.

"The deadline for municipalities to opt out of having cannabis retail stores within their boundaries has now passed," said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Finance. "The private retail model will combat the illegal market, helping to make our communities safer."

Ontario is assisting municipalities with the costs related to the legalization of recreational cannabis by providing $40 million over two years through the Ontario Cannabis Legalization Implementation Fund. Earlier this month, a first payment of $15 million was provided to municipalities on a per-household basis, adjusted so that at least $5,000 was provided to each municipality.

With passage of the opt-out deadline, a second payment of $15 million will be distributed. The 77 municipalities that have opted out will receive

$5,000 each. Those municipalities that have not opted out will receive funding on a perhousehold basis, adjusted so that at least $5,000 is provided to each municipality.

In addition, Ontario will provide municipalities that have not opted out with 50 per cent of the surplus of the province's portion of the federal excise duty on recreational cannabis, if that amount exceeds $100 million over the first two years of legalization.

"Ontario is committed to continuing to work with all municipalities to keep our youth and our neighbourhoods safe," said Fedeli.

Ontario is allowing the opening of 25 private retail cannabis stores as of April 1, 2019 as a temporary measure due to the national supply shortage of cannabis. When Ontario has determined that the federal government has provided for enough reliable supply, Ontario will issue further retail store licences.

Ontario has set aside $10 million of the $40 million in funding to help address costs from unforeseen circumstances related to the legalization of recreational cannabis. Priority for this funding will be given to municipalities that have not opted out.

• A total of 25 cannabis retail stores will be able to open in April 2019 in communities across Ontario.

Byrne’s appointment ensures even more of Ford’s meddling in Ontario’s energy sector is on its way.

Sadly, Byrne is just the latest to climb aboard the Doug Ford gravy train. Ford gifted his campaign tour director Ian Todd with a cushy $350,000 gig in Washington where he represents the Province at the Canadian embassy. Then we have past Conservative party president, Rueben Devlin, who was named to a $1 million government advisory appointment. Next is the tap given to the long time Ford family lawyer, Gavin Tighe, who will enjoy a $667,000 train ticket to sit on the Public Accountants Council.

Finally, as presented in recent columns, there is ongoing deep concern over the possibility that Ford meddled to ensure his loyal ally and longtime personal friend, Ron Taverner, in his appointment as Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police. This one is especially troubling because Ford doesn’t even understand the impropriety of appointing a close ally to be the head of the police force that is directly responsible for investigating any possible misdoing by the Premier, his cabinet and other high ranking government officials. Ford says it’s just another political appointment, made at his prerogative, just like any other appointment.

Police investigators must feel free from any obligations, ties or influence by government officials or their appointees in conducting their investigation and consideration of laying appropriate charges if necessary. Police would lose all credibility if the public has any inkling of such pressures.

During the last election campaign, Doug Ford was caught on video during a secret backroom meeting that he would open up Toronto’s Greenbelt for them. Alas, here

at least, is some recent good news for Ontarians. It seems that the hue and cry of foul and the mounting concern is beginning to have some effect.

Once exposed last summer, Ford quickly reversed his position, promising that the lands set aside were not going to be touched. Then, just recently Ford made a second attempt to do the same. But, by working together, concerned citizens and groups — including municipalities, environmental advocates, agricultural organizations and the Official Opposition — have been successful in holding off Ford’s attack on the Greenbelt. That’s twice now Ford’s attempt to punch holes in the precious lands set aside solely to reward his wealthy friends and business supporters. Clearly Ontarians must be ever vigilant on this and so many other similar situations.

To be fair, such attempts and decisions are not exactly foreign to Ontarians. The previous Liberal government under McGuinty and Wynne were anything but lily white in this regard.

Remember how Ford heralded his government as “Ontario's first ever Government for the People?” Well, he forgot to mention that the people of Ontario could get in line, right after all of his friends and supporters were taken care at the head of the line. Despite promises and commitments to put a stop to the ‘gravy train,’ it seems that under Doug Ford that train continues to chug along just fine.

In the words of Alphonse Karr, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

News From The Park More than likely, very few readers will recognize the name Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, but it would be a pretty safe bet most will be familiar with some of his work. Alphonse Karr, a French journalist and novelist, is credited with the epigram, “plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose,” or “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” I raise this common quotation in light of what seems to be a developing trend at Queen’s Park ever since Doug Ford took over as Premier.

All of us well remember Doug’s younger brother, the late Rob Ford and their signature cri de coeur of stopping the ‘gravy train’ at Toronto’s City Hall. The Ford brothers formed a formidable front as they challenged the status quo at City Hall, taking on all comers. Doug was right there at his brother’s side fiercely committed to turning over every stone to expose and prevent anyone from enjoying a ride on the ‘gravy train.’ And yet, now with Doug Ford as Premier of the province, and despite this professed conviction to stamping out such practice, we continue to see more and higher priced train tickets being handed out to Ford allies and supporters.

Most recently we learned of Ford handing a big money golden parachute to his senior advisor, principal secretary Jenni Byrne, who, according to a report by The Toronto Star, is leaving Ford’s office. Ford has gifted Byrne a full-time board appointment as the province's independent energy regulator for the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). Byrne was just rewarded a first class ticket with an annual cost of $400,000, paid for by the people of Ontario.

The OEB is charged with overseeing Ontario’s energy sector. Its independence is vital to protecting families from political mismanagement.

Canada Food Guide Gets A Makeover The long awaited update to the Canada Food Guide has arrived and it bears little resemblance to its predecessor. In many ways the guide is catching up to the leaps in research that have increasingly singled out highly processed food and sugar as drivers of the obesity epidemic and the growth in chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The new recommendations emphasize proportion instead of portions and reduce the familiar four food groups into to three while also advising Canadians make water their choice of beverage and even try to eat together more often.

The new guide views the formerly separate categories of meat and dairy as proteins which also includes plantbased options like chickpeas and tofu. Objections from the meat and dairy sectors were understandable, but they are not being singled out so much as reconsidered as part of a healthy diet. Sugary drinks didn’t fare as well and, despite heavy lobbying, the guide now warns against them including fruit juice which was previously seen as a healthy drink.

This change reflects the department’s own study that found all sugary drinks combined are the top source of sugar consumption for Canadians.

The upgraded guidelines have been well received and could help Canadians adopt healthier eating habits, but there is still a lot the government can do to support this goal and also make it more accessible. One challenge is the cost of eating well and the fact that many Canadians can’t afford to follow the guide’s nutrition recommendations.

According to research from the University of Toronto, over 4 million Canadians, including 1.15 million children, live in homes that struggle to put food on the table. The government could dramatically reduce this food insecurity for children by working with the provinces and territories to guarantee universal access to

nutritious meals for children in Canadian schools. Canada is currently the only G7 country that doesn't have a national school food program.

In addition to that, more could be done to help consumers make healthy choices.

That’s why New Democrats are calling for the implementation of effective front-of-package labelling requirements that will help consumers choose products that are lower in sodium, sugars, or saturated fat.

The detrimental health effects of tobacco products are clearly labelled on packaging while highly processed foods are allowed to display their nutritional information in small type on the back of packaging.

It is said that the new guide doesn’t reflect the influence of lobbying, but clear front of packaging labelling would show that Canada’s commitment to public health on this front is firm.

A healthier population is an obvious goal for any country and the growth on chronic diseases related to our diet required a response. Based on 2015 information, the rates of diabetes in Canada are expected to rise 44% by 2025 while the costs of treatment are projected to increase by 25% at the same time. The revamped food guide’s recommendations are intended to help people better understand the choices they make every day and to remind them of the connection between well-being and diet. This update will help Canadians pursue healthier diets based on the forty years of research that has taken place since the prior recommendations were developed.

Wawa – 150 Years Chapter 1920-1929

To start off the decade, the Magpie Mine ceased operations in 1921 after twelve years of iron ore extraction and roasting. The unfortunate events did not end there when a fire ripped through the area in 1921, destroying many of the structures at the Helen, the Magpie and the tiny WaWa City. All that remained were a few log homes, the Balmoral Hotel and the public school.

Alex Ross and a few residents fought this fire and prevented it from destroying the entire town.

Alex Ross is known as an early pioneer of Wawa. He manned the local post office in his house where the current Pentecostal Church stands.

Alex made headlines in the Sault Star for his pig with a half-torn ear which the pig sustained after a fight with a pack of hungry wolves. Ross was also known for helping construct the first Protestant Church in WaWa City, as well as helping to build the Catholic Church and the public school on Broadway Avenue where the current Post Office now sits. He worked hauling supplies from the CPR line to the Helen and Magpie mines with his horses. Ross raised many animals to help those who stayed in Wawa including chickens and pigs, as well as his legendary work horses which he contracted out to local labourers. As a “thank you” for all of his contributions to the community, it was arranged that Alex would have the ride of his life. In 1920, Alex enjoyed a flight with Captain T.B. Tully, who has the distinction of being the first person to ever land an airplane on Wawa Lake.

The Parkhill God Mine opened in 1926 with the next gold boom in Wawa. The Parkhill was known throughout its existence as a profitable mine, especially during the 1930’s while the rest of the nation was suffering through the Great Depression.

Alongside the opening of the Parkhill Gold Mine was the

Jubilee Gold Mine initiating operations in 1929, while stakes were being claimed for the Minto Mine, set to open the following.

The 1920’s were a crucial time in Wawa’s history. It was a decade in which local mining developments would positively impact the future for both Wawa and the Canadian mining industry.

This is the sixth chapter in “Wawa – 150 Years, 18672017” published by the Town of Wawa, Wawa EDC and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. Copies can be purchased at the Wawa EDC office at 96 Broadway Avenue.

Dementia Researchers Are Taking Care Of Caregivers Article by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, more than 400,000 Canadians aged 65 and older are living with dementia. The impact is double that number when you consider family members who act as caregivers – most often a spouse or adult child.

Dementia progresses differently for each individual.

Because it affects memory, behavior, mood, and communication, dementia can put a strain on a relationship and make caregiving difficult. A person living with dementia may appear to be unpredictable, irrational, and become frustrated, upset, or even strike out. These symptoms of dementia can leave caregivers feeling helpless and alone.

Imagine you’re a senior caring for a spouse with dementia. You may be retired and have your days free. But you may have your own health or mobility issues that make it difficult to provide the care you would like to give.

Now imagine you’re employed and caring for a parent with dementia. You’re holding down a full-time job and maybe raising children of your own. You may need to juggle medical appointments for your parent with your children’s appointments and activities. You may even have to absorb the cost of home care services to ensure your par-

ent’s needs are met.

The time, energy, emotional, social, and economic costs of providing this level of care can result in a financial and emotional load that is overwhelming.

The Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) is finding ways to support caregivers in meeting their practical and emotional needs. Their projects and tools will equip families and caregivers to support people living with dementia, nurturing the quality of life of all involved along the dementia journey.

Drs. Joel Sadavoy and Mary Chui, who are based at the Reitman Centre for Caregivers at Sinai Health System, are leading a CCNA team dedicated to responding to the challenges of caregivers. They developed the Reitman Centre Working CARERS Program, which helps improve a caregiver’s capacity to navigate the dual role of being employed and providing care full-time.

This includes fostering problem-solving strategies, interpersonal skills, and an understanding of how to manage competing responsibilities.

“We’re investigating key factors that affect the practical, psychological, and social lives of Canadian family members who are employed while also providing care to a senior with dementia at home,” says Dr. Sadavoy. “Our goal is to understand their challenges

and help them acquire skills and emotional resources to balance their competing responsibilities.”

The program is part of a larger component for caregivers within Ontario’s provincewide dementia strategy. Other forms of support include skills training, an online mindfulness therapy program, and an arts-based activity group for caregivers and people with dementia. These activities are designed to provide social engagement and strengthen the ability of caregivers to look after their loved ones while taking care of their own emotional well-being.

Although based in Ontario, these programs are now being assessed for their fit in rural communities in Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Based on what the CCNA team learns, they will work with corporate and community partners to scaleup the programs, enhance accessibility and use of the interventions that are effective, and promote health policy changes.

“The Resolutions” - Chapter 4 -

This week let's look in on Henry and Alice, to see how Henry is making out with his gambling resolution. But do you realize we never did hear what her resolution was going to be either at the New Year's party at Jack and Meisha's?

She sure sidetracked that whole thing. Too bad, as it would have been nice for everyone to have had a chance. It certainly would have been fun to kid them all back and forth, for that night, and to be a long standing point of conversation for the entire year. These were Alice's thoughts at the time.

Now, however, she was just as glad that she didn't get a chance to reveal her resolution. It was to go to university on line and get a degree as a pharmacist. But she has instead committed to a noble attempt to help Henry with his gambling addiction. We got a clue about that when she was talking to Jack at the party out in the kitchen.

As a precaution to avoid being bankrupt herself, she had indeed set up her own bank account for her wages from her job at the pharmacy.

She had tried to talk to him after coming home from the New year's days football games to find out if he had made any bets. He denied having any.

“Don't you dare try to continue to deny it. I heard you telling Jack that you had wagers on all the Bowl games, when you were on the phone with him this afternoon,” Alice stated.

Caught in a lie, he just shrugged his shoulders, and commented, “Yeah, ok, just a friendly bet among the guys at work. No big deal. Give me a break, eh!” Alice didn't know whether to believe him or not.

She hesitated momentarily, but let him off the hook. “Okay, I hope that is all it was. If I find out otherwise, you're in big trouble with me, and your bookie too, I'm sure. So, how did you do, then, on the NFL games from last weekend – win any of them either?” she concluded with a taunt.

Now it was Henry's turn to hesitate. “Um, well, yeah, I lost on all the games. My teams just weren't on their game, that's all. I lost just a meager $500. I can pay that off easily this week, once I get paid. No problem. Just wait til next...” He stopped short, realizing his slip up. He never meant to go that far and say 'til next time'. As far as Alice was to know, there was to be no more gambling. He wasn't sure how he was going to keep her in the dark all this year. It wasn't an enjoyable thing any more, but he couldn't stop himself. He knew the next wager could be the big payoff. He just had to improve his system,

so that he didn't lose as many times as this past year. Once baseball season came along, he would do better. He always had in the past – won a few, and when he did lose, it was usually only in the $200 range.

“Er, what I meant was, just wait til next weekend when my NFL teams are playing again. The Vikings and Packers are playing. That will be a great game.”

“And how much are you wagering on that game, Henry?

Tell me now, so I will know how much you'll have to fork out of your wages later.” She was getting exasperated at the constant worrying. And now here was another $500 to pay off right at the beginning of a new year. Not a great start.

“NO, no, hon. I'm not betting anything. I just expect it to be a good football game, that's all. Now come on. Let's check out the computer. Maybe there is a message from your mother.

Bet she's having a great time down in Florida, while there for the winter. Must be nice, eh. And we are stuck up here in the freezing cold and snow.

Won't it be nice when our turn comes to be a senior and a Snow Bird. Actually wouldn't it be nice to spend even a couple of weeks down there, sharing her time share condo.

We could pay our share. I think that |I could put up with her for that long, Besides we wouldn't be there that much, what with all the attractions and the beach and everything.”

He realized he was prattling on. He always did that when he was nervous or caught in a lie and trying to bluff his way out of it. Today was one such day.

Alice realized it too, and recognized he was trying to change the subject, but she was too tired to argue anymore tonight. So she went along with him to the study, where they got caught up on their e-mails. Of course there was nothing from her mother.

She was tempted to say 'I told you so', but she just knew that would lead to another confrontation battle, and she was not wanting to go through that.

But there was one e-mail that intrigued her, one of his. Her antennae went up when one e-mail subject title addressed to him, and he just scrolled down past it without him opening it. It said: 'Schedule U Requested'.

Alice asked Henry, “Why didn't you want to open that one. What schedule is that about.” She didn't recognize who was sending it either.

That made her suspicious too.

He replied, “Oh, that's just the work schedule for next week. I forgot to pick it up last week. They were late getting it out, due to so many staff taking time off for Christmas.”

She let it go, and they continued checking their e-mails.

There were only a couple of others, and they were spam.

So they shut it down, and turned off the computer.

Henry said he was heading for bed. Alice said she was coming up too just in a minute. She was just going to set the table for breakfast. So he went upstairs and she went to the kitchen, and went about that, but mulling over what had just happened. He was lying to her again. She just felt it. She debated whether to go back and open up their e-mail and pull up that 'schedule' message. He was in the process of getting ready for bed, ans so she would have time to pull it up. But what if he came out of the bedroom or bathroom before she was finished.

So she decided to wait until he was asleep and then sneak back in to the living room and read it then.

She went into the bathroom and did what she had to there, and then headed to the bedroom to get undressed, and get into bed. He was already in bed. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek and said good night. Then she got up and turned off the overhead bedroom light. The night light popped into action, shedding just enough light so she could find her way back to the bed.

She settled in, with their backs touching each other. They both pretended to fall asleep, with false breathing coming out from each of them. Just as she was laying there, preparing to get up, she was startled when he arose and sat on the edge of the bed. He sat there momentarily before looking over at her. Assuming she was asleep, he got up off the bed as quietly as he could. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed him finch as the bed squeaked.

He stood up and looked back at her. Assuming she was still asleep, he made his way out to the living room.

Alice waited for a minute or so, until she was sure it was safe for her to get up too. As she stuck her head out of the bedroom, she saw a soft light pouring out from the living room. She knew it was the table light on the desk where they had their computer and printer set up. She hesitantly poked her head around the corner of the doorway, and saw him intently leaning over it, obviously reading that mysterious e-mail. She stood there, pondering whether to confront him and catch him in the act, or pull it up later after he had gone to work. He had to be to work for eight, whereas she

didn't have to be in until nine.

So that would give her lots of time to explore their account in more full detail.

Now that she had settled on that plan, she went back to bed. It was about five minutes later, she guessed, before he came back. In one respect, she was amused at how carefully he had eased himself back into bed, trying desperately to not waken her. On the other hand, she was furious about his lying and sneaking around, hiding this gambling addiction – or trying too, at least. Then she hearkened back to his New Year's resolution to get his addiction under control. She hoped that he meant it.

She knew it was going to be a real struggle for both of them. She prayed that they could make it through the year,despite all the challenges she knew faced them. As she mulled all this over, she quietly fell asleep.

That morning they acted as if nothing was up. He headed off to work and she got dressed and ready to go, but having that extra time, she opened up the computer and searched for that e-mail. She scrolled down, and could not find it.

She went up and down several times, but could not find it.

Then she muttered to herself: “Really, you have deleted it, and you think that is it, gone so no one can ever see it. Not so fast, Henry dear. Let me pull up that file, and you will see how easily it can still be floating about the internet.” But she was surprised when she could not find it. Again she scanned up and down looking for it. She took her hands off the mouse, considering how that could be. Then she happened to look up at the clock, and saw it was time to get to work. She would have to check this out some more later.

She dreaded having to confront Henry again, fearing the backlash she would receive, with him surely accusing her of not trusting him, by going through their e-mails behind his back, even though they shared their account, and had always used it without any problems before. These were all good points, so that helped her to chicken out for that then, and do some research on how you can manipulate and make things disappear into 'thin air', before approaching him.

So that is where we leave off for this time. Stay tuned.....3

SKOURAS, Joseph Alexander "Peter" Passed peacefully at home on December 19, 2018 while in his 70th year, with his daughter, Erica, and his former wife, Elsie by his side. Joe is survived by his loving daughter, Erica Skouras (Marc Bradley), and adoring grandchildren, Jaxon and Stella. He will be dearly missed by the mother of his children, best friend and former wife Elsie Johnson, and by his beloved sisters Florence Bertolo (Leo) and Isabelle Wilson (Bill). Joe was predeceased by his son Jason Skouras, whose passing in 2000 was his greatest heartache. Joe is also predeceased by sisters Alice Mann (late Edward), Anne Trembley (late Fern), Norma Sherlock (late Earnest), Jean Tauriainen (Karlos), and his brothers Bill (Madeleine), Alfred (Barbara), John (late Fernande) and David. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe will be remembered for his sense of humour, love of adventure, determination and general aptitude for many things.

As per Joe’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of life and memorial service will be held at the Rorab Shrine Club, 1260 Brookes St. North Bay on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm with a service beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by a light reception. Article by the Ministry of Transportation London—On January 24th, Jeff Yurek, Minister of Transportation announced new technology at Ontario truck inspection stations that will reduce delays, promote on time delivery of goods and improve road safety.

Pre-clearance technology quickly identifies highrisk trucks as they approach a truck inspection station and provides an alert to Ministry of Transportation enforcement officers to have the truck enter the station for a full inspection. Trucks with good safety records receive an alert to bypass the stop—saving time, money and fuel. The mobile application called Drivewyze will be delivered by Intelligent Imaging Systems Inc., a Canadian based company.

Pre-screening technology automatically screens for safety defects such as tire, wheel and brake failures and overweight loads. It will be used on either the highway, the truck inspection station ramp or both. It will initially be available as a pilot program at four stations: Vineland, Putnam South, Whitby/Oshawa and Lancaster by summer 2019.

To reduce red tape, Ontario recently proposed changes to the Highway Traffic Act to allow commercial truck drivers the option of an electronic cab card, making it easier to confirm driver credentials and reduce paperwork.

The ten artists went to draw, in their own way, on their respective traditions in order to allow the community to reflect on five powerful following questions: 1. Do animals have rights?

A vision of the Peul people towards cattle and a Canadian vision on antispecism.

2. A critical look at the sacred: Christian amulets and African charms (grisgris).

3. Mission: the Canadian "little brother" in Africa, the African priest on mission in Canada.

4. Values bequeathed as a legacy.

5. Old people viewed by Canada and Africa through the theme of abandonment.

The opening will be held on Thursday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. at 180 Projects gallery in Sault-Sainte-Marie. A show not to be missed.
