LDHCF Donor Appreciation Reception
Members of the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation Article & photo by Barb Fisher The Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation (LDHCF) held a reception in grand style treating guests to a wonderful array of healthy fruit, decadent sweets, cake and strawberry cocktails in the hospital's reception area on Sunday as the Foundation's way of honouring donors past and present who have enabled the LDHCF to generate charitable support and to enhance health care services delivered at the Lady Dunn Health Centre. The Donor Recognition Celebration Come and Go is held each year to recognize donors and give families an opportunity to honour their loved ones whose names are inscribed on the "Forever In Our Hearts" donor boards. Janet Besner, Chairperson of the LDHC Foundation thanked the Board of Directors, hospital staff, volunteers and intern Jennifer Fletcher for their hard work and dedication. Janet continued in announcing the unveiling of the redesigned Donor Recognition Boards and explained that the Boards have been revamped in a different format to make it easier
to keep the continuity when adding future names. The Boards: Friends, Sponsors/ Partners/Supporters, Generous Hearts, and In Honour show the inscriptions of names who have given an accumulated lifetime donation of at least $200, with names grouped indicating increasing increment donations to a very generous $50,000.00. Mary Ciuciura, Foundation Treasurer took the podium to read out each name inscribed on the "Forever in Our Hearts" donor board to give families an opportunity to honour their loved ones whose names will always be remembered. Kadean O'Gilvie-Pinter, Chief Executive Officer & Director of Patient Care Services thanked donors for their generosity, and Dr. Julie Weinstein was able to take time out of her busy work shift to thank everyone and their families for enabling state of the art medical services in our community. The Foundation holds many exciting and novel fundraising events throughout the year. The current fundraiser supports the retrofit of the existing radiography equipment in the x-ray room to a
new Digital Radiography system. Once installed the new system will result in higher quality resolution images and diagnostic exams can be completed in less time. It will also allow the Health Centre to continue to provide excellent
care in radiography by staying current with advanced technology. To date $122,700.00 has been raised leaving only $31,300.00 left of their goal of $154,000.00, and a campaign update will be coming in April which will show how much closer the goal is within their reach. The Foundation is continually exploring novel ways to attract contributions, and have launched a Wedding Day "New Beginnings" program to encourage charitable wedding donations which have become a popular alternative to wedding gifts. More and more couples are replacing traditional favours with a meaningful message that lets their guests know that a donation had been made to the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation. The newlyweds may also choose to indicate that the donation had been made in memory of someone dear to them. Upon receiving the donation from the newlyweds, the Foundation will pro-

By contributing funds to the Foundation, the Lady Dunn Health Centre will remain at the forefront of health care with modern medical equipment that will not only save lives, speed recovery and protect staff, but will help retain and attract health care professionals in our community today and into the future. I have been covering community events for some years now, and never cease to be amazed at how generous and quick to step up to the plate our citizens are. Well done Wawa. We can be proud of our track record in making Wawa a great place to live.
