Newsflash
Baby Chicks At SJD
It sure is hard to wait and watch four little eggs for 21 days when you are 5 and 6 years old, but in the end the wait is worth it. The Kindergarten class at Sir James Dunn had an opportunity to have 3 baby chicks come to visit their classroom in February. It was so much fun holding these cute little fuzzy chicks that they decided that they should try and incubate their own. Braiden and his family brought in 4 eggs and we sat patiently waiting and watching as the incubator turned the eggs 6 times a day. On the 20th day Mrs. Bernath noticed that two of the eggs had little holes in them. When we came back to school the next morning there were two adorable baby chicks running around the incubator. Over the last three weeks Licorice and Lemonade have grown so much. They love
to perch on the post that Mr. Bernath made for them, they love to run around our room and of course they love to eat. A big thank-you to the Hughes family for donating the eggs and helping us learn how to raise baby chicks. Who knows what our next adventure will be, but we sure
know that SJD is the place to be!

Past Governments Are To Blame For Continuous Road Closures : NDP’s Mantha Past governments are to blame for continuous road closures : NDP’s Mantha Elliot Lake - Michael Mantha, the Ontario NDP candidate for Algoma-Manitoulin, issued the following statement after Hwy 631 was closed between White River and Hornepayne due to a culvert collapse. “My team has been in contact with the Ministry of Transportation and will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day. They anticipate the highway to be open to one lane tomorrow and two lanes fully reopened by next Wednesday. Previous similar incidents have resulted in the closure of our northern highways including the TransCanada. It is unacceptable that this kind of situation happens as often as it does in a province like Ontario. It reflects poorly on past Conservative and Liberal governments that have been

negligent in maintaining the safety our main roads. Since alternative routes are not readily available in the North, road closures on main highways in this region can result in considerable damage to our economy. Businesses and individuals depend on reliable highways to move goods, access essential services, get to school, access medical care or simply get to work. It is my hope that when a new government is elected on June 7th it make it a priority to address this recurring issue that causes considerable hardship for our region. Regardless of whoever forms government, I will continue to bring concerns from Algoma-Manitoulin to Queen’s Park and ensure that our roads are properly maintained.”
