Come tutti gli sportivi abbiamo passa to oltre un anno in una situazione di stallo. Tutti i programmi sono salta ti con l’annullamento dei tornei. Questa prima vera abbiamo inizia to timidamente l’a ttività ma purtroppo con poche certezze». Una sicurezza però è l’impegno con il Campiona to d’Europa che, sospeso lo scorso anno per la pandemia, è sta to riprogramma to a Milano a fine settembre. Costanza Marchiorello, ca pitana della squadra, da pochissimo è diventa ta mamma per la seconda volta ed è già di nuovo in sella. Sua sorella Vittoria è invece in dolce a ttesa e questa volta passerà il testimone. Nel ruolo di titolare, conferma ta Ginevra Visconti, si affacciano in long list la giovanissima Alice Coria, che già a Villa a Sesta era inga ggia ta nel ruolo di riser va, e Praxilla Traba ttoni. The International Polo Federation has organised a European Championship while in Argentina there are now the first women’s versions of the most important tournaments in the world such as the Camera, Republica and Abierto. In this feminine panorama, in spite of the fact that the number of players is still small, Italy is now playing a leading role. “Nobody expected our team would win the first edition of the European Championships held in Chantilly in 2017 – says Ginevra, a 30-year-old player from Rome who inherited her passion for polo from her father Luca D’Orazio – or that the following year the same team would leave the Villa a Sesta Polo Club wearing the silver medal. “ It was a wonderful adventure, led by the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation’s Polo Department (directed by Alessandro Giachetti with Franco Piazza as coach), with a team consisting of Ginevra D’Orazio, the Marchiorello sisters - Costanza e Vittoria - and Ginevra Visconti. “We were a team gifted with complicity, physical fitness and an ideal synergy, which in a team sport like polo is of the utmost importance and we also became great friends” – added the Roman player who, having set aside her degree as an interpreter, became a professional player and plays off a 6-goal handicap. “Like all sports people we have just spent a year on standby. All our programmes changed when tournaments were cancelled. We slowly resumed our training in the spring but things are still rather uncertain.” One thing however is certain and that is preparation for the European Championship, which, cancelled last year due to the epidemic, has be reprogrammed for the end of September in Milan. Costanza Marchiorello very recently gave birth to her second child and is now back in the saddle again. Her sister Vittoria is instead now pregnant and this time will leave her place on the team to another player. With Ginevra Visconti confirmed, the long list now also includes a very young Alice Coria, already reserve player at Villa a Sesta, and Praxilla Trabattoni. So fingers crossed everyone and let’s support Italy! Go girls!
