Architecture Design + Interior Design + Bridge Design | Professional | UNStudio | Zhongshan | 2012-2016 | Clent: Keppel Land China | Under Construction: To Be Completed in 2016 Marina Keppel Cove is a waterfront mixed-use development in Zhongshan, Guangzhou that houses VIP members of an international yacht club. Project scopes include a mixed-use clubhouse, a service building for boaters, a CIQ building for immigration department, an entering bridge structure, facade design for super villas, facade design for waterlock, and interior design for key spaces. Marina Clubhouse, the center of the development, is the hub that connects everything together and a linkage in many ways in terms of circulations, air flow, and views. Therefore, the design concept is to have the clubhouse sits elegantly and cohesively within the landscape similar to a yacht sailing on the water. Funnel spaces are created as the main feature to allow all kinds of flows to move freely between inner residential zones to outer water zones and open spaces.

Chengdu Club House and Community Center Architecture & Interior Design | Professional | Yuan Arch | Chengdu | 2018 | Clent: Shanghai Forte Land | Built
Chengdu Clubhouse and Community Center sits on the edge of a tranquil lake which serves as a temporary sales center in the short term and will become the community center of the whole residential developement. Chengdu is a historical city rich in Chinese culture such as caligraphy and Chinese paining. The design is to capture the essence of Chinese painting of layering strokes, leaving void, and balanced composition. In Chinese paining, artists love to mimic nature, especially the landscpae of Chengdu. By creating a layered undulating ceiling and a thin roof, we portrait a Shan-shui (Chinese landscape painting) together with the reection on the water. The architecture is fully integrated with landscape design. There is a big level difference between the front and the rear side of the building. In order to break the massive drop, green terraces and water falls were implemented, and lead people to ow from the interior to the exterior hence to the lake.
Begonia House Architecture & Interior Design | Professional | Scott Brownrigg | Singapore | 2019 | Clent: Mr. Teou | Underconstruction Begonia House is a 3 storey semi-detached landed house in Singapore. The house is designed for a three generation family running developement and construction business. The main concept of the house is to bring light and air into the house by createing “two layer of roofs” that create slits in bettwen and allow light and air to enter. Thw two roofs articulated in different angles as our design language in which were translated in the whole proejct. The owner valuves familly space greatly, and requires lots of open common areas for the family to gather. For the living room, a very high slanted ceiling was designed following the geometry of the roof to create extention of the space. The staircase was been seen as a sculpture that is not only for circulation but also an art piece in the center of the house. In terms of the material, we uses off-form concrete in most common spaces to provide texture and a raw feel to the house. It’s also acting as a backdrop by give the space a monolithic tone so that the living / dining areas were more highlighted. Besides concrete, lots of natural materials like timber and stone effetc tiles were selected.

Xiamen Haicang Exhibition and Sales Center
Alice Yi-Ting Chiu
Architecture & Interior Design | Professional | AECOM | Xiamen | 2012 | Clent: Xiamen Vanke | Built Xiamen Haicang Exhibition and Sales Center is a joint effort between AECOM landscape team in San Francisco which comes up with overall master plan and landscape design and architecture team in Shanghai that designs the sales center on site. The sales center strategically adopts a cylinder shape to respond the overall landscape gesture. One corner of the building mass is cut and lifted in such a way that creates a sloping circular circulation to create a more dynamic space and memorable entry experience. The project is launched in December 2011 and was built in September 2012.
cut - lift up - connect to create entrance space and a higher view out
INTERIOR SEQUENCE
impress - welcome - display - meet - relax
RECEPTION DESIGN Aside from architecture, we are also doing the interior. I was responsible for the main feature of the lobby - an elegant reception counter flows with the stair.
The project team uses 3D modeling tool to establish building form, and does a series of geometric stydies. Hence appliying them to the building construction.
Basic Building Envelope
Nanchang Tianxiangyuan Clubhouse
Alice Yi-Ting Chiu
Architecture Design | Professional | AECOM | Nanchang | 2012 | Clent: Nanchang Vanke | Built Nanchang Tianxiangyuan Clubhouse is located in a big lakeside landscape park in Nanchang. The main function of this building is a sales center for a short term but will become a community clubhouse in the long term, therefore the program is designed to reflect both demands. The project is located in a big landscape park surrounded by water. The landscape design of the park is done by AECOM landscape team so the architectural design is fully integrated with landscape. Throughout the whole design process there is close collaboration between the two teams to find the ideal balance between the architecture and the environment.
structure study
The project is bend into a curve in order to prolong water facing frontage. One end of the “snake holds active programs such as the gym and yoga room, another is passive programs.
The building functions as a backdrop for the adjacent landscape. It is coated with white waterproof paint. Abundant transparency is introduced all over with emphasis on the ground floor to reduce the overall architectural mass and to allow better views throughout the building.

FACADE ITERATION The facade The organic pattern on the facade makes the number of floors less indicative. Based on the privacy analysis on different levels, smaller and denser openings are needed towards the bottom of the building.

I am a tall condominium building standing by myself and i hate how anonymous my surrounding is. I want to be pretty. Even though people can see me standing here people won’t know what is going on in me. I prevent my residents from being seen. I am like a secreet; one must know the way in order to enjoy my insides. Come seek for me and join the internal society of hiding.

A VERY SKINNY BUILDING The massing strategy is to minimize the width of building footprints to best achieve the concept of “hiding”. The building is twisted 30 degree from the bottom to the top to minimize the impact of prevailing wind on the building structure.

People sometimes desire a break from exhausting city life, a shelter where they can enjoy some relaxation and forget about who they are and what they do. This project aims to provide a shelter for people to “hide”. A home that offers highest privacy while still keeping spacious layout and elegant designs.

Ambiguous Livingscape
Alice Yi-Ting Chiu
Living Space + Parking Structure On The Beach Academic |PennDesign | Los Angeles | Spring 2011 | Homa Farjadi Work selected for publication by instructor Homa Farjadi, “WORK 10-11” A peculiar relationship exists in Surfurbia – specifically, a juxtaposed opposition between private life and public space. The beach is the ultimate public domain, yet the living spaces on it stand in isolation, bound by solid walls, fences, and vegetation. Our proposal involves the removal of such solid boundaries, as a means to add ambiguity among what is public and what is private, what is beach, what is parking and what is living space.

Mobile Urbia sleeping

bathing
This project is a new type of parking structure that is concurrently living space, beach space, etc. It is essentially an extension of the beach landscape, which is further extended to the city by the mobility of the car. The four essential activities – bathing, eating, sleeping, and viewing – form four distinct landscapes, offering instable and shifting relationships to the horizon, to incidental programs, to pedestrians, to cars, and to the water.
