Thanks to my Final Design Project I was lucky enough to discover Japan, to par cipate to an interna onal workshop in Tokyo and to win the AIAC Interna onal Compe on for Tokyo 2020 sponsored by UNESCO. I have learned a lot during this project both professionally and personally. I met students from all over the world and discovered their methods and their architectural cultures. This was also a unique opportunity for me to discover the Japanese architecture and its faculty to op mise narrow and small spaces. THE NIHONBASHI DISTRICT The compe on site is located to the East of the Imperial palace (Edo’s castle). This historical district managed to keep a unique urban character with mixed-use combining residen al, business and commercial areas. Nowadays, the district is s ll an important commercial sector of Tokyo. This district is characterized by three important landmarks : • the Nihonbashigawa river that traverses the site. • the historical Nihonbashi bridge («Nihonbashi» means «Bridge of Japan»). This bridge represents an important element of the Japanese culture. It was at first the crossroad of «the five roads» connec ng Edo (the old name of Tokyo) to Kyoto, in Japan. Furthermore, this bridge has followed the Japanese evolu on techniques : It was built as a wood bridge in 1603 and changed to the actual stone bridge in the Medgi period (1911). Later in the 60’s, it has been covered by the highway built for the Tokyo Olympics of 1964. • the Urban highway called the inner circular expressway built in 1964 to provide a be er road network for the Olympics.
It was built above the Nihonbashi River and Nihonbashi bridge. A project of destruc on of this expressway has been in discussions for several years. The project wants to replaced this expressway by an expressway built further from the city. PROJECT ISSUES This district in perpetual transforma on tends to modernise itself. The construc on of many towers transformed the mixed urban landscape of yesterday in a business district, forcing exis ng small businesses to close. The difference between day and night ac vi es is growing increasingly (ra o 10/1). The objec ves of the compe on are to revitalise the area in order to create an a rac ve district for families, young couples,... which could also promote Tokyo’s candidacy to host the 2020 Olympic Games. Thus four issues emerge: • The revalua on of the Nihonbashigawa River and the ability to provide access to water for the residents. • The enhancement of the historic Nihonbashi Bridge. • The ques on of the future of the exis ng infrastructure (rehabilita on of the expressway, for example). • The func onal diversity of the district. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INNER BLOCK AND THE WATERFRONT
There are two « interiorities » in the site : one inside the inner block (with a lot of activities and thin streets at a human scale) and another one created by the water and the underside of inner highway.
The frontwater : a walkway is designed to offer the possibility to touch the water. The riverbank level is occupied by a lot of activities : restaurants, bar, shops,... Some public stairs do the connexion between the street level and the riverbank level.

The rehabilitation of the inner highway : a second walkway is designed to offer a pleasant place that crosses the city. The existing beams are kept, but the floor of the walk is designed to have light passing through the beams. Thanks to these openings the Nihonbashi bridge is illuminated by sunlight.

The Compe on «Passive houses in Loire Valley» offered the opportunity to select one out of six proposed sites. I chose Gizeux, a small village of about 450 inhabitants, with five shops. The Gizeux Castle, classified as historic monument, represents the local tourist a rac on. The crea on of new houses and the rehabilita on of exis ng buildings had to be taken into account to revive this small town, to bring in new people and promote social and genera onal diversity. The project is organised around courtyards, in its two forms : public and private in the heart of housing buildings. Theses
courtyards are convivial places where people can meet, play, discuss, garden,.... Furthermore, the passive houses and an equipment for the elderly and small children are conceived. This equipment is equipped with a medical home that allows coexistence between the elderly and the children during the day. Dura on of the exercise : 7 months. Individual work. Physical model of the site with the project in white, 1:5000
The site is located in the Karlin district, in Prague, Czech Republic. The site looks onto the Vltava river on the North and onto a main street to the South. The program consists on conceiving a new mixed-use complex in this district and to preserve the two exis ng buildings located on the site. To create a new space around the two older buildings, I designed a series of structures moving from the main street to the river. These buildings are different heights so as to have the sunlight penetrate into each plot. The towers, near the river, offer a splendid view of the river and the landscape. The low-rise building on the street maintains the alignment of the main street. Specifically, this building blocks the traffic noise of the main street.
Principles sketches
This urban barrier creates a calm interior within the plot. It has a different character of space and is dedicated to pedestrian use. This space holds a public garden as well. The two older buildings are meant to be restored and hold shops, restaurants, and bars. The exis ng street within the new construc on to the west connues into the site. This street is like an avenue and serves as the main point of access to the plot. It is bordered by the towers buildings on the North and a mid-rise building on the South. This building is composed of apartments with maisone es. Dura on of the exercise : 5 months. Individual work. Worked with hand drawings, sketches, physical models, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign.

This project was an opportunity to conceive different types of offices. This work includes two scales : • the first one is about the office complex scale in general : the organisa on of the various offices focusing on the issues of rela onships as inside/outside, light/shadow, the distribu on of the offices, the shapes, the volumes,... • the second scale is about the office space in par cular : its func on, the orienta on of the workplace, the storage,...
•
The project is organised around three principles: • the COURTYARD. The offices are organised around a courtyard. The offices on the wings are double or individual offices. They have offsets (slope). In contrast, the north and south flat floors are larger offices, which can be modulated.
Dura on of the exercise : 1 month. Individual work.
•
the PROBLEM OF OFFICES IN GROUND FLOOR. The lower offices overlook the courtyard, the gallery overlooks the outside. In contrast, the other wing has an offset of one half of a level rela ve to the ground level, thereby the offices get a clear view without the downside of being viewed. The gallery overlooks the courtyard. the WALKWAYS. The posi on of the gallery and offices alternate : outside or inside.

The project is located at 107 Haxo street in the 20th district of Paris, France. The plot has a narrow form, with a width equal to 15 meter and a length equal to 90 meter. The purpose of this exercise was to create a residen al complex in Paris as to understand the urban regula ons in the capital. The project is organised by bands of empty and full spaces. In addi on, a checker board principle is used to have views and natural lights penetrate into each dwelling. The project combines two types of buildings : • an apartment building with seven stories overlooking the street with a shop on the ground floor . • low-rise buildings in the heart of the plot. These three or
four stories buildings are composed as imbrica ons of duplex or triplex. The entrance on the ground floor is a private garden for each maisone e. An inner sloping street accentuates the depth of the plot and serves accommoda ons. The street has a special form which comes directly from the form of the windows and the facades of the low-rise buildings. These windows offer more views and bring more light. Two gardens are designed : one at the entrance of the plot, and the other at the bo om of the plot. Dura on of the exercise : 2 months. Individual work. Photography of the site : «the red garden» and hand drawing of the project
The projet is located inside the «red garden», one of the six theme gardens of the André Citroën Park, in the 15th district of Paris, France. This garden is slopping in the centre and bordered by two small walkways on the ground floor. From the footbridge you can have panoramic upper views onto the garden. The program consists in conceiving a small building dedicated to the exhibi on of art works, des ned to the park’s public. This project was an exercise to analyse the rela onship between structure and natural light. The exhibi on hall is designed as a ramp that turns around a well of light. The building is raised from the ground. Structure has been elevated on piers. A pond is sited under the well of light.
The sun rays can be reflected by the water and reach the hall. The hall is only accessible by the footbridge, the upper walk close to the glasshouses. At the entrance, two walks are possible : • the first one is going down inside the building where art works are displayed along the concrete walls. • the other one is situated on the roof terrace. You can at the same me appreciate the landscape, the view onto the park but also admire sculptures and art works on free air. Dura on of the exercise : 6 weeks. Individual work. Worked with hand drawings, sketches, physical models.

Oliaros, a young property development company, is calling architects up to 35 years old to submit proposals for the construc on of a student housing unit in Kerameikos and Metaxourgeio (KM), an area in the historic centre of Athens, Greece. The proposed project consists in conceiving three different atmospheres, three dis nct areas : - UP : the higher part of the building defines a roof floor watching the «acropolis» landscape. The shared terrace is a pla orm for the domes c and collec ve ac vi es. - IN : the middle part of the bloc is a dense and very private living space. Each room has a totally glazed façade allowing as much as possible light and wind to penetrate inside. - DOWN : the lower part is thought as a space open on the street. It is a double height garden protected from the sun of Athens.
Job responsibili es : - Involved in final graphic drawings (plans, eleva on, the three Photoshop perspec ves illustra ng the concept of Up, In, Down) - Assisted lead architects in the crea on of the text document including the project descrip on. Worked with : AutoCAD 2D, Photoshop, InDesign.

URBAN INNOVATION : PRODUCTIVE WALK A potential for energy transition of our cities via piezoelectricity Master research report - 2012 / 2013
Architecture
work in connection with a research project (IRP) at the ESTP Professors : Mrs Balez, Mr Franca, Mr Gaubin and Mr Meunier
32
Summary : The urban popula on grows every day. In Europe, already two thirds of the popula on is urban. This phenomenon is even more present in France with nearly 80% of the French popula on living in the ci es. This density explains partly the overconsumpon of energy and material resources available. The challenge of the future is ci es. Thus the ques on is to try to reduce our energy needs and find new ways to produce the energy needed for the development of tomorrow’s ci es. Generate electricity from the mechanical pressure or stress of footsteps is the solu on proposed in this work. This new technology, known as the piezoelectricity, could produce energy to
supply the electricity for the street ligh ng, for example. How this piezoelectricity’s principle works ? Are there any references to an pedestrian applica on? Is it an appropriate solu on to integrate into our ci es of tomorrow? What are the func ons that a piezoelectric module must have to become the flooring of the sidewalks of the city of the future? And finally, how a project piezoelectric could fit into a pedestrian area of Paris and how much energy could be produced ? This work try to answer to all these ques ons. Dura on of the research project : 1 year. Individual work.
