This interactive workshop will explore the practical skills and markers that make for effective feedback. The Intersection of Law & Common Sense (Mtg Room #3) Speaker: M. Kimberly Hodges, Office Managing Shareholder at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. Employers are burdened by the ever-increasing regulatory and legal requirements of running a business. Risk assessments, internal audits, policy reviews, and the constant fear of lawsuits can cause managers to distance themselves from their employees and create an “us versus them” culture. This session will discuss the reasons behind legal requirements, the best management practices that act in concert with legal requirements and the benefits to employees and the organization of developing a compliance culture.

The SHRM Difference The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) offers its conference attendees access to important and relevant topics presented by top-notch speakers. The exhibit hall offers you a great opportunity to network with colleagues and connect with exhibiting companies that provide the products and services you need to leverage your contributions to your organization.

Daily Schedule: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 (Continued) 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM | Lunch General Session with Sarah Thomas Breaking Through: My Journey to Becoming the First Female NFL Official Sarah Thomas changed the game in the world’s most quintessential male-dominated sport—football—when she became the first female NFL official. She officiated her first game September 13, 2015 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans. Today, Sarah’s hat, whistle, and flag are on display at the NFL Hall of Fame and serve as a testament to this historic achievement. Sarah also made post-season history by being named Down Judge for the Patriots/Chargers 2019 playoff game and was named one of the Sports Illustrated 100 most influential figures of all time. No stranger to being the first or breaking gender-barriers, she was the first female official to ever work a major college football game, to officiate a bowl game and to officiate in a Big Ten stadium. Since joining the NFL’s roster of officials, she has become a trail-blazing inspiration, embodying the notion that with a belief in self, inner drive, hard work, preparation, and a mindset of being the best you can be, no barrier or ceiling is impenetrable.

We don’t just practice in this community. We’re a part of it. In 1937, Jones Walker LLP began as a small law firm in New Orleans and is now one of the largest law firms in the United States. While we’ve certainly grown and changed over the years, what hasn’t changed is our steadfast commitment in Mississippi and helping our clients meet their legal challenges, whether they are large corporations or small businesses just starting out like we did more than 80 years ago. Perhaps that’s why The BTI Consulting Group, which conducts hundreds of in-house counsel interviews to identify the top client service firms in the nation, named Jones Walker to its 2019 Client Service A-Team.
