“Play Smart, Play Safe”

The children in Itawamba County are our #1 asset and need to protect their brain. To promote March as Brain Safety Awareness month, members of the Pilot Club of Mantachie and Anchor Club of Mantachie presented the puppet show Brainminders to the first and second grade students at Mantachie Elementary on March 1, 2017. The puppet show shared a variety of ways that students could remain safe. Some safety tips shared were: Never swim alone, look both ways when crossing a street, wear a helmet when riding a bike, scooter, or skate board, and call 911 in case of emergency as well as several others. Partnering with Itawamba FIRST Foundation, the Pilot Club and Anchor Club gave each student in the second grade a new bicycle helmet to promote brain safety. Each first grade student that attended received a pencil with a safety tip and coloring sheet promoting wearing a helmet. Later this month, a guest speaker will present safety tips to students in grades 7-12 with the theme “What Were You Thinking?”.This speaker will focus on distracted driving since this is the #1 killer of teens today.
