The 2020 edition of the annual Polish Arabian Horse Festival in Janow Podlaski, organized by the Polish Jockey Club, was special for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was one the very few shows that were not cancelled due to the current state of affairs and Covid-19 restrictions. However, very limited space for spectators and all the other safety measures introduced during the show, clearly showed that the world has irreversibly changed in the past few months. The organizers did not forget about all Arabian horse aficionados who were not able to attend the show in person and, in cooperation with Arabian Essence TV, provided a live broadcast that reached more than 65 thousand people in just four days! Secondly, unprecedented weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity, made presentations in the showring more difficult for both horses and handlers. Luckily, Polish horses never fail to bewitch with their exceptional refinement and captivating beauty. Every energetic and powerful performance in the showring leaves everybody with goosebumps on their skin, no matter the temperature outside. Thanks to the tent installed to protect against the unpredictability of the weather, this year’s show was no exception. Additionally, all the handlers went to
great lengths in helping horses to perform at their best under such challenging circumstances. Without a doubt, the newly established cash prizes must have provided additional motivation for the trainers to make every effort to end up on the podium. Financial appreciation for the owners of high scoring horses would not be possible without the support of Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who decided to allocate a substantial sum of money to attract more exhibitors. The prize pool reached almost one million Polish zlotys which is equivalent to EUR 233.000. Cash prizes put even more pressure on the judges: Christine Jamar-Demeersseman from Belgium, Claudia Darius from Germany, Amira Safady and Cedes Bakker, both from the Netherlands, as if an immense responsibility to assess 127 participants was not a big enough challenge by its own means. The 42nd Polish National Arabian Horse Show started on Friday afternoon with junior male classes. Two sections of yearling colts and a combined class for 2- and 3-year-olds were a good opportunity to compare the progeny of various stallions. Class 4A left no doubt about who would become the shining star

of the show. The Michalow-bred fantastic Ferrum (Morion x Ferrmaria by El Omari) took the class by storm and achieved a spectacular score of 93.67 points, with 2 x 20 for type, 3 x 19.5 for head and neck and 3 x 20 for movement, leaving all his competitors far behind. Second place was awarded to the exotic black Enzo Blacklord (Wadee Al Shaqab x Estansja by Ekstern), bred and owned by Anna Janas-Naze. The interesting chestnut Chicago by Wortex Kalliste was the last colt in this division that qualified for the championships. Chicago’s dam, the bay Ekstern daughter Calatea, has proven to be an outstanding producer for her owner Marek Kondrasiuk. The second class of yearling colts was a triumph of the Brazilian-bred 13-year-old bay RFI Farid. Two of his entirely unalike sons, the typy grey Kapitano AF (out of Karbona by Ekstern) and the bold bay Badian PA (out of Begonia by Kahil Al Shaqab) were placed in the first and second position, respectively. Third place for the Janow Podlaski-bred grey Atrato (Emerald J x Atma by Ekstern) meant that he also qualified for the Sunday championships. A small number of 3-year-old colts resulted in merging the classes for 2- and 3-year olds into one larger class. The 3-year-old chestnut moving machine bred by the Bialka Stud, Belmari (El Omari x Bint Ermina by Kabsztad), won the class ahead of the 2019 Silver Champion Yearling Colt Pointer (Sahm El Arab x Palanga by Ekstern) from Michalow and the 2019 Gold Champion Yearling Colt Star Farid (RFI Farid x Star of Africa by Marwan Al Shaqab), bred and owned by Wojciech Parczewski. Both senior male classes featured only six stallions each. In the 4-6-year-old stallion’s division, the two highest scores were a draw. The masculine and charismatic grey Empower (WH Justice x Eksterna by Ekstern) from Falborek Arabians received the same total score as the 5-year-old chestnut El Wiktorio (Eternal x Elwiktoria by Ekstern), bred and owned by Petroniusz Frejlich. With slightly higher marks for type, Empower managed to defeat El Wiktorio in the end. Third place went to the 4-yearold bay Ekstern son Edmund (out of Editha by Eden C) from the Michalow Stud. In the class of 7-year-old and older stallions, the well-balanced snow-white Barok (Om El Bellissimo x Baida by Balon), bred and owned by the Janow Podlaski Stud, came before the high-trotting grey Psyche Keret (Khidar x Psyche Victoria by Ekstern) from Chrcynno Palace and the 8-year-old grey Zloty Medal (QR Marc x Zlota Orda by Pesal) representing the Michalow Stud. All the above-mentioned stallions qualified for the Sunday championships. Each and every female class on Saturday was an endless feast for the eyes. In the morning, the judges had an extremely difficult task of evaluating as many as twenty-eight yearlings, nineteen 2-year old and twelve 3-year old fillies. First place in class 1A was awarded to a beautifully moving bay filly from Janow Podlaski.

Brodnica (Pogrom x Bambina by Kahil Al Shaqab) won by move with the exotic dark bay daughter of Wadee Al Shaqab, Laura KL (out of Lili PS by Ekstern), bred and owned by Klikowa Arabians. Third place in the class belonged to the Chrcynno Palace Stud and their lovely grey Echo Anastazja (Psyche Keret x Echo Aurora by Eternity Ibn Navarrone-D). Class 1B was conquered by the progeny of the 2015 World Champion Junior Colt Morion, proudly bred and owned by the Michalow Stud. All three places that qualified for the championships belonged to his lovely daughters. The gracefully trotting grey El Madera (out of El Medonia by Shanghai EA) from Michalow, with 92.17 points and a 20 for type, was the winner of the class. Two beautiful bay fillies, Amaranda RA (out of Alina PS by WH Justice) bred and owned by Czeslaw Golaszewski and Eurazja (out of Erebora by Empire) bred and owned by Alicja Najmowicz, placed second and third, respectively. The third division of yearling fillies was the triumph of Tomasz Tarczynski and his extremely good-looking grey ES Harir daughter Mamma Mia (out of VA Magnifica by Magic Magnifique). The judges showed appreciation for her perfectly proportioned head and beautifully shaped neck with well-deserved maximum scores. Second place was granted to the Michalow Stud for another amazing daughter of Morion, El Medida (out of El Medara by Shanghai EA). First two places in the first section of 2-year-old fillies were awarded to private breeders: Piotr Podgorny for the beautifully trotting grey Kahil Al Shaqab daughter Eskahila (out of Espanera by Kabsztad) and Alicja Najmowicz for the refined bay El Farida (RFI Farid x Esmeta by Ekstern). On the contrary, class 2B was all about the state studs. The breath-taking chestnut Elgarolia (El Omari x Elganza by Sanadik El Shaklan) from Michalow qualified for the championships with a great total score of 92.50 points, closely followed by the powerfully trotting bay Janow-bred Efidenia (Pomian x El Fada by Ekstern). In the 3-year-old fillies’ division, the team from Janow Podlaski had yet another reason to celebrate. One of the best Ascot DD daughters, the grey Anguria (out of Anawera by Piaff ) was awarded first place right ahead the grey Paprotnia (Elgast x Paeksa by Ekstern), bred and owned by Lech Blaszczyk. Junior female competitions were merely a prelude to what we were all about to experience on Saturday afternoon. It was the older, more mature mares that ceaselessly took our breaths away and enchanted the jury. So much charm, femininity and refinement, all gathered in one place, resulted in some of the most spectacular scores of the show. The top step of the podium in class 7A again belonged to the Michalow Stud. Their beautifully moving grey Parantella (Kahil Al Shaqab x Palanga by Ekstern) won the class right ahead another Ascot DD daughter Tacjana (out of Tartina by Perseusz), bred and owned by the Janow Podlaski
SHOWS AND EVENTS Stud. The victory of another mare from Janow Podlaski in the next class came as no surprise. The 6-year-old regally-bred Petula is the daughter of two remarkable representatives of the breed, the multi-champion Kahil Al Shaqab and the unforgettable Pinga (by Gazal Al Shaqab). Her slightly younger stable companion, the chestnut Pregola, secured second place in the class with her powerful trot that she must have inherited from both her sire Vitorio TO and her dam Perespa (by Enzo). The outstanding presentation of the strikingly beautiful half-sister to the Platinum World Champion Mare Emandoria in the first division of 7-10-year-old mares evoked all kinds of positive emotions. The classy, correct and charismatic Emandorissa (Abha Qatar x Emanda by Ecaho) must have put a spell on the judges, who lavished her with a superb total score of 94.17 points, making her the highest scoring horse of the show. Second place went to the 8-year-old bay Wiga (Om El Bellissimo x Wologda by Ekstern) from Janow Podlaski, also abundantly feminine and elegant. The second class of 7-10-year-old mares was a close fight between the state studs. The beautiful bay Emandilla (Om El Shahmaan x Espadrilla by Monogramm) representing Michalow received the same total score of 93.00 points as the gorgeous grey Om El Bellissimo daughter Euzona (out of Euzetia by Etogram) from Janow Podlaski. Only 0.5-point difference in the marks for type resulted in Emandilla’s triumph. The emotions were running high until the very end of the day. The final class of 11-year-old and older mares belonged to the precious Pilarosa (Al Adeed Al Shaqab x Pilar by Fawor). Looking better than ever, this twelveyear-old Janow-bred flea-bitten grey beauty, who is now the pride and joy of Nina Suskievicova, returned to her homeland to conquer the showring. Similarly to Emandorissa, Pilarosa received a remarkable score of 94.00 points and left the competition, a highquality Ekstern daughter, far behind. The twelve-year-old grey Psyche Kreuza (out of Pallas-Atena by Ecaho) from Chrcynno Palace with 91.83 points also qualified for the championships. However, at the end of the day no one doubted that the senior female championship will be a fierce fight between the two highest scoring mares of the show, Emandorissa and Pilarosa. Both of them represent the best bloodlines existing in the Michalow and Janow Podlaski breeding programmes. The ethereal Emandorissa belongs to the meritorious family of Milordka, otherwise known as the world-famous Michalow ‘E-line’, while Pilarosa is a truly remarkable representative of the treasured Janow Podlaski ‘P-line’, the highly esteemed Szamrajowka damline. On Sunday morning, both the temperature outside and the feeling of excitement before the upcoming championships reached the zenith. After a brief welcoming speech, nine yearling fillies that qualified for the championship were presented in front of the audience. All four judges took up the challenge of choosing the top
five horses, including the three medallists. It is never easy and the judges were not unanimous in their decisions, but finally the three champions were selected from amongst the class winners. The Gold Champion Yearling Filly title, together with the ‘Best Head’ trophy, was awarded to the highly refined Mamma Mia, bred and owned by Tomasz Tarczynski. The equally exquisite grey El Madera won the Silver Champion award for the Michalow Stud and the attractive, high trotting Brodnica, bred by the hosts of the show, became Bronze Champion Yearling Filly. The remaining Top Five titles were granted to the Michalow-bred grey El Medida and the dark bay Laura KL, bred and owned by Klikowa Arabians. In the Yearling Colts Championship, the uncertainty was mostly related to the silver and bronze medals, which finally went to two extremely unalike RFI Farid sons, the grey Kapitano AF and the bay Badian PA, respectively. Nevertheless, it was the phenomenal Ferrum that captured everyone’s attention and unsurprisingly stole the show. No one doubted that he would repeat his success from this year’s Bialka Junior Spring Show. Again, the exceptional combination of distinctive Arabian type and powerful animated trot made him unanimous Gold Champion Yearling Colt and Best Mover of the show. However, Ferrum went far beyond that by winning ‘Best in Show’ prize. It was the icing on the cake; the true accomplishment that no other junior colt ever achieved since the prize was first established in 1993! With such fierce competition, there was no space on the podium left for Enzo Blacklord and Atrato, who received the Top Five awards. Out of six high-quality fillies that entered the junior championship, majority of the judges selected the winner of class 2B, the 2-yearold charming chestnut Elgarolia from Michalow, to become Gold Champion Junior Filly. Silver and Bronze medals went to the Janow Podlaski Stud for the 2-year-old bay Pomian daughter Efidenia and the 3-year-old grey Anguria by Ascot DD. The two remaining Top Five titles were awarded to private breeders: Lech Blaszczyk for the 3-year-old grey Paprotnia and Alicja Najmowicz for the 2-year-old bay El Farida. Only three colts qualified for the junior championship. What is more, the difference in their total scores was not significant enough to prejudge the final placement on the podium. Thus, the judges were far from unanimous when selecting the three medallists. Therefore, Gold Champion title was awarded to the refined bay Star Farid who entered the championship from the third position in the class. This promising son of RFI Farid repeated his own success from the 2019 Polish Nationals as well as the 2020 Bialka Junior Spring Show, where he was also number one on the podium. With his victory, RFI Farid became an undisputable front-runner when it comes to the number of winning get in the yearling and junior male championships.

Three out of six champions were chosen from among his progeny. The Silver Champion title went to the Bialka Stud and their attractive chestnut Belmari who, with his animated trot, won the class two days earlier. Last but not least, the third place on the podium was granted to the typey grey Pointer from Michalow. Senior females’ competition was probably the most anticipated championship of the day. Selecting only three mares from among ten exceptional representatives of the breed looked like ‘mission impossible’, especially when every single one of them was a true embodiment of captivating beauty, feminine charm and noble quality. However, the two highest scoring mares stood out from the crowd and, as expected, the competition for the gold medal was really a battle between the enchanting Emandorissa and the prepossessing Pilarosa. Again, the judges’ verdicts were divided, but the exceptional refinement and feminine beauty of Pilarosa prevailed over the distinctive Arabian type and noble presence of Emandorissa. The truth is that either of these two flea-bitten grey beauties could have become Gold Champion Mare, but this time it was Nina Suskevicova who proudly collected the highest trophy with Pilarosa at her side. Apart from a special trophy for the highest scoring mare, Emandorissa added yet another silver medal to the long list of trophies that her breeders, the Michalow Stud, won over the years. The Janow Podlaski Stud, apart from being the proud breeder of Gold Champion Mare, were also entitled to bronze medal for their lovely Om El Bellissimo daughter Euzona, a 9-year-old gorgeous grey mare of superb phenotype and harmonious build. The pride of Chrcynno Palace Stud, the 12-year-old snow-white Psyche Kreuza, secured one of the Top Five titles by trotting with spectacular suspension. With all these grey beauties in the ring, it is extremely challenging for a bay mare to be appreciated, but with all her undeniable charm and charisma, Emandilla won another Top Five title for the Michalow Stud. When it comes to the senior male championship, there were no major surprises. The judges were unanimous when choosing both gold and silver medallists. Thus, the 5-year-old Empower representing Falborek Arabians and the 9-year-old Barok from Janow Podlaski became unanimous Gold and Silver Champion Stallions, respectively. Opinions were divided as to who should be named Bronze Champion Stallion. In the end, the juges selected Psyche Keret from Chrcynno Palace over the Michalow-bred Zloty Medal, who received the Top Five title together with his bay stable companion Edmund. Although not present at the show, Ekstern deserves a special award as the outstanding sire of high-quality broodmares. Out of all forty horses that qualified for the championships, fourteen were the progeny of Ekstern daughters, which means that his strong genetic prepotency, noticeable in his direct get, is also extended

onto next generations. The annual Pride of Poland sale has always been considered a great opportunity to obtain high-quality breeding material at reasonable prices. The 51st edition of the auction was awaited with great apprehension. When it started on Sunday afternoon, there seemed to be a lot of tension in the air. The uncertainty resulted mainly from travel restrictions related to Covid-19. In practice, it meant that many serious buyers, potentially interested in purchasing horses, could not arrive to Janow Podlaski in person. Sending representatives to make bids on behalf of breeders is a common practice in the Arabian horse industry and it had certainly happened before. However, unable to admire horses in the ring, potential buyers are less likely to make high bids, especially in these uncertain times when most people think twice before spending large sums of money. The fact that some horses were not physically present during the auction, including the incomparable Perfinka, officially nominated as the star of the 2020 edition, was another reason to have reservations about a spectacular success of the sale. The beginning of the auction looked like there were some good reasons to be nervous. However, with as many as twenty-one horses offered for sale, a slow start is never an indication of the final result. Not once did the total income of the sale surprise even the greatest sceptics. It was Lot 4, an exciting offer to purchase the unborn foal by the World Champion Stallion Marajj and out of the Platinum World Champion Mare Emandoria, that changed the course of events. The two involved bidders, strongly believing in Marajj’s and Emandoria’s genetic abilities, were gradually increasing the price. Finally, Hanaya Stud from Switzerland made the winning bid of EUR 70.000. Yet, it was the sale of Lot 10, the sensational superstar Perfinka, that everybody was waiting for. This magnificent mare definitely deserves the title of show horse supreme. Being one of the most accomplished horses ever bred by the Bialka Stud, Perfinka has proven to be the true queen of the showring across Europe, the Middle East and, more recently, also in the USA. After a long fierce fight between three major bidders, Perfinka found a new home in Saudi Arabia. The astronomical sum of EUR 1.250.000 was the final price that Princess Jamila Bint Abdulmajid Al Saud decided to pay to include Perfinka in her breeding programme. Another amazing opportunity to enhance any breeding programme with a full sibling to the 2019 Silver World Champion Filly Eralda came with Lot 12. Falborek Arabians decided to share the remarkable heritage of their highly-decorated 9-year-old Enezja with other breeders by offering her embryo by Emerald J for sale. Again, Hanaya Stud from Switzerland made the highest bid of EUR 55.000. The emotions were running high until the very end of the auction, when Lot 21, the wonderfully designed Ekstern daughter Lawinia, reached a well-deserved price of EUR 95.000.
Flaxman Arabians from Belgium, that made the final bid, had the chance admire Lawinia’s full potential as one of the best movers ever bred by the Michalow Stud, as she was presented loose in front of the enchanted audience. Overall, the Pride of Poland sale concluded with ten horses sold for the total of EUR HO 1.587.000. The Monday Summer Sale, where fifteen out of S' FUND twenty-three horses managed to find new owners, added another EUR 157.000 to the final income. In the light of recent events, the sale of almost 50% of the horses in the Pride of Poland auction and almost 70% in the Summer Sale was beyond all expectations. This year’s edition of the Polish Arabian Horse Days has definitely demonstrated that, no matter what is happening in the outside world, Poland is still home to some of the most refined and captivating Arabian horses on the planet. The irresistible beauty and enchanting femininity of Polish mares, combined with their harmonious build, athletic abilities and powerful movement, are capable of satisfying some of the most demanding breeders around the globe. It is gratifying that even the Middle Eastern �./ h breeders who produce many outstanding and highly-decorated � horses themselves, invariably pursue the highest quality breeding material in the Polish studs. Thus, high-quality broodmares at the core of the Polish breeding programme not only continuously improve the local population but also unceasingly attract potential buyers. On the other hand, to compete in a crowded market, both state studs and private breeders tend to introduce more and more internationally recognised stallions into their breeding programme. The cautious and selective addition of foreign blood, which helps in differentiating the limited genetic pool of the Polish flock and decreases excessive inbreeding, can also be quite beneficial for the population. The Michalow-bred World Champion Colt Morion (Kahil Al Shaqab x Mesalina by Ekstern), together with his promising progeny, could serve as an indication that, with careful and selective breeding, the use of ho.org oorganizationforeign stallions can bring a desired outcome. Also, it was really aho_official encouraging to observe how the private breeding sector in Poland has flourished over the past few years. The number of private breeders that boldly reach for the highest trophies during the National Show has increased dramatically in the last ten years. For years, Poland has been the place of pilgrimages for breeders and enthusiasts from all over the world. All Arabian horse aficionados heard amazing stories about the captivating Polish horses capable of melting the coldest of hearts. If you had a chance to look into the beautiful black eyes of the ethereal Emandorissa… if you could spend some private time with the precious Pilarosa… if they were all yours, even if just for a moment… you would not think twice about visiting Poland. In the end, all Arabian horse lovers live for the moments like these… q

His sire was Ansata Nile Echo by Ansata Hejazi, out of Ansata White Nile. He was one of the most important Ansata stallions in Europe and the Middle East. His
TB Farouk (*2018) is the son of Jamil Al Rayyan by Ansata Hejazy. He is an outstanding type producer with many champion foals in the world. His dam is the Tre Balzane root mare TB Helwa by Ibn El Nil. She is belonging to the Obayan strain, tracing to Marah, one of the foundation mares at Nagel’s stud in Germany. TB Farouk is the full brother to the Gold Champion filly TB Fayza.

Despite these bizarre times of COVID-19, the Everars family was able to organize the Elran Cup 2020, of course taking into account the appropriate corona measures. It was a great joy and relief for many Arabian horse enthusiasts that this show did go on, in the grounds of Alden Biesen Castle in Bilzen, Belgium.
Saturday 25 July The show started at 1 pm on Saturday July 25th and the judges for this weekend were Mr. Eric Gear from France, Mr. Tomasz Tarczyński from Poland and Mr. Cristian Moschini from Italy. The first class was the class of filly foals and two of the tree entries were present. The first place went, by far, to the excellent CBA Mona Lisa, a beautiful refined filly by Excalibur EA out of Maharani CF, bred and owned by Bouché Arabians. Jamilah (Maher Al Shahania x Narnia), bred by Joanna Skorek from Poland and owned by Gino Vandendwije from Belgium, placed second. Right after the filly foals the colt foals made their appearance. In this class the win was for Forelock’s Bassim (RFI Farid x BB Jamala), bred and owned by Forelock’s Arabians from the Netherlands. A very nice dark bay colt, with excellent movements (awarded with a 10!) and an exotic, big eyed face. The second placed CB Galaxy (Excalibur EA x Gypsy Love NA), bred and owned by Claudia Brugman of Brugman Arabians, is also a very expressive colt with a beautiful front, powerful movements and great attitude. The quite young Forelock’s Renaissance (WH Justice x MDR Tayishah), bred and owned by Forelock’s Arabians, was a bit too impressed and therefore this typical colt was placed third. In the following overall championship for the foals, the gold medal went to the beautiful CBA Mona Lisa, with Forelock’s Bassim taking the silver medal to the Netherlands. The first class of yearling fillies then was to start and it was with great awe that I watched CBA Indiyana (Wadee Al Shaqab x Ilena El Aryes), bred and owned by Bouché Arabians, trot to the win. As a foal she already was irresistible, but this dark bay filly with her exotic, very feminine face and big black eyes quite rightly was placed first. She was followed by Despina AA ( Jyar Meia Lua x Damdiyah AA), bred and owned by Ariela Arabians from Israel, who is also a very exotic filly with lots of Arabian type, but who lost some points with her marks for body & topline. The grey filly Vega Nova PCF (Benicio PCF x Bella Nova PCF), bred by 96 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
PCF Arabians from the USA and owned by Alsayed Stud, placed third followed by Lina AT (ES Sarab x Fer Lisalina), bred and owned by Al Thumama Stud, a refined filly with an extreme, dished face, who lost her points on body & topline and movements. Joyeus Dream KA (WH Justice x Joumalia Nautiac), bred and owned by Knocke Arabians, closed the class. Six competitors in the second class of yearling fillies and again it was an absolutely beautiful Wadee Al Shaqab daughter that took the first place. This time it was DA Amira (out of champion mare DA Alihandra), bred and owned by Cornelia Kolnberger of Diamond Arabians from Austria. This luxurious, very refined filly moved with great flexibility and had a great standup. A well-deserved first place! The bay Almarie EA (Emerald J x BTS Lily May), bred and owned by Esperanza Arabians LLC and owned by Nesma Stud, placed second, an unmistakable Emerald J daughter, with great features. I also really liked the third placed Xotic Portia (AJ Portofino x Xotic Desire), a well moving bay beauty bred and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Smith from the UK. Kachina KA (Equiborn KA x Kinshasa JA), bred and owned by Knocke Arabians, won by movement in a tie with BA Noya (Magic Magnifique x Magic Nadima), bred and owned by Bembom Arabians from the Netherlands. Roe Caramella TRF (Falah Al Shaqab x Roe Ameera), bred by Mr. Talal Omar Aggad from the UK and owned by Mr. E. Mashat from the UK, completed the ranking of this class as sixth. Also six contenders in the first class of year colts, where Tuareg AA ( Jyar Meia Lua x Turkiz AA), bred by Ariela Arabians and leased by Nayla Hayek of Hanaya Arabian Stud in Switzerland, took the first place. A very typical, quite tall colt with an outstanding neck and front. Roweidan Nesma (Kanz Albidayer x Maya AS), bred by Arabian Soul Partners from the USA and owned by Nesma Stud, took the second place, a nice bay colt with a great show attitude. Vakil Al Badyaa (by RFI Farid) is an attractive bay son out of the famous mare Valentino’s Angel MI. This promising young stallion became third and his bred by Al Baydaa Stud and just like his dam owned by Flaxman Arabians. Another pretty RFI Farid, Laith AM (out of Deem AM), bred and owned by Al Mohamadia Stud, was placed fourth by judge,
as this colt had an ex aequo ranking with Vakil Al Baydaa and also a tie on both type and movements. Jewel KA (QR Marc x Jalicia de Nautiac), bred and owned by Knocke Arabians, had a fifth position and Aradan JL (Mahder Al Jamal x Anartia KA), closed the class as sixth. Aradan JL is bred, owned and presented by Jan Lemmens, t is not often seen that breeder, owner and handler are the same! In the second class of yearling colts the win was for Bader Akmal, a very exciting bay colt by QR Marc out of champion mare Pepita, bred and owned by Akmal Stud. Luther (BK Latif x Xotic Design), bred and owned by Mr. & Mrs. Smith from the UK, gained the second place. He is a nice grey colt that honors his dam’s name, with his exotic and unmistakable Egyptian looks from his sire. Afnas Al Shahania (Na’mous Al Shahania x Nirah Meia Lua), bred and owned by Al Shahania Stud, placed third and with two entries remaining absent this class came to an end. A very full class with seven competitors was the class of two year old fillies. For this article I will limit myself to the top 5 (further results please see the website of Arabian Essence). A real grey beauty named Amaltea Regalis (Vivaldi Regalis x Grisabeel Chandra), bred by Regalis Arabians and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, took the win. A very feminine mare with big black eyes, that had a wonderful stand up with her handler Frank Spönle. The bay Ranen Bint Alen (Ammer JFD x Alen Al Hilwae), bred by Abu Rumi Muhamad Kfar Tamra from Palestine and owned by Jas Stud, put the second place on her name with three times 9.5 on type. Bella Amour AE (RFI Farid x Q La Bella), bred by Eli Eyad and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, placed third. She is a classical beauty and pretty bay filly. The grey Alexxanderr daughter Dareen Alsayed (out of Dasha Arabco), bred and owned by Alsayed Stud really has a very refined face, which was awarded with two times 10 and a 9.5, however due to points loss on body and topline she had to accept the fourth place. Malala Apal-S (ES Sarab x RA Anila Apal), bred by Mr. & Mrs. Lievrouw and owned by De Cartherey Arabians of Chantal Rigat, closed the top five with a nice stand up and view on her great neck! Only two competitors in the class of two year old colts and Rannan Akmal (Emerald J x Spala), bred an owned by Akmal Stud from Saudi Arabia, with powerful movements trotted for the victory. A solid and complete young colt with good body, good legs and movement and good stand up. JS Basheer ( JS Badari Ibn Bolero EM x Helena), bred and owned by JS Najuba Arabians from Switzerland, really was ready to give away a show and with gratitude showed himself to the second place and closed the class. Four three year old fillies entered into the arena for the last female junior class of the show and here the very tall AJ Tiran (AJ Mardan x Amrya Bint Khidar), bred by Ajman
Stud and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, ranked first. This mare has a formidable front with a feminine head with big black eyes, which resulted in one 10 and two times 9.5 on time and three times 10 on head and neck. Second in the class became IEA Yemaya (LB Genesis x Yusriyyah), bred and owned by Idol’s Eye Arabians, Mrs. C.A. van Wengerden, from the Netherlands. Also a refined filly with a good Arabian type and a nice neck. Thalina KA (QR Marc x Harmattan Thalya), bred and owned by Knocke Arabians and Safiah RC (SMA Magic One x EKS Shakira), bred by the Royal Cavalry of Oman and owned by Falcon Arabians & Ulrichsdal Arabians, completed the ranking in this class. In the class of three year old colts I was awed by AJ Elaf (AJ Mardan x AJ Estrella), bred and owned by Ajman Stud. This impressive colt is big, complete and has a beautiful head with bulging eyes. After a slight warming up he presented himself well which was awarded with one 10 for type and three times 9.5 on his powerful movement. AJ Elaf gathered the highest points of the show, i.e. 42,67, and thereby overthrew Forelock’s Bassim, who until then had that accomplishment to his name. With just slightly less points the more exotic Sinmar Albidayer (Shanghai EA x Salwa Albidayer), bred and owned by Albidayer Stud, was placed second. This colt is a real Arabian to see, but just a bit less masculine and impressive then AJ Elaf. Next was the bay Haash OSB (Dominic M x Partyssima OSB), bred by Ms. Olivia Strauch and owned by Mrs. Christine Jamar & Olivia Strauch. This three year old bay really look good and with his front he really “climbed into it”. His great stand up and big black eyes were good for a third place. El Ameed (FA El Rasheem x Magnolia Apal), bred by Koenraad Detailleur and owned by HBK Stud from Kuwait, closed the class as fourth. The Saturday ended with the class of geldings, where without any doubt the eye-catching grey, super mover Emirzo (Enzo x Emira), bred by Michałow Stud and owned by Flaxman Arabians, won with two times 10 and one 9.5 on his great movements! The second place went to Maghror Al Shahania (Monther Al Nasser x Hababa Al Shahania), bred by Al Shahania Stud and owned by Nadine Koo of Koo Arabians in the Netherlands. This five year old is maturing more and more in the showring and with his looks knew how to convince the judges. His former stable mate Haleem Al Shahania (Emerald J x RHR Cashmere), bred by Al Shahania Stud and owned by Tom Oben, Obi Traning Center, ended third and the beautiful Ajman Moniscione son Karam Albidayer (out of Khaleifa), bred by Albidayer Stud and owned by Alicia La Morella, was placed fourth. I really liked this dark chestnut and if next time he would show a bit less insecure and move more expressive he will undoubtedly end higher. AF Bryco (AF Umoyo x AF Baya), bred by Arabian Fantasie and owned by Joyce van Nispen tot Pannerden, made this class - and with that the program for Saturday - complete. www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 97

Sunday 26 July On Sunday July 26th the program started at 9.30 am with the class of four to seven year old mares. Five absolute stunning competitors entered the arena and the class was one by Razan Albidayer (SMA Magic One x Qamar Albidayer), bred and owned by Albidayer Stud, a very refined and feminine mare with a beautiful front. Personally I was really fond of the second placed Ever Essence WHA (Ever After NA x Essence of Fame), bred by Michael & Andreen Millard from the USA and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud. This bay beauty was really expressive in her stand up, from which she showed as a perfect ambassador for the breed. However in movement she appeared less bothered and thus showed less convincing, which may have cost her the first place. HHC Ali K (LL Khartoum x LL Albujaira), bred by Hacienda Chada SA and owned by Akmal Stud had an ex aequo ranking with Ever Essence but lost on typ and thus was placed third. 2019 Brazilian National Silver Champion mare RFI Sensation ( Jazeer de Wiec x RFI Sophie Al Maktub), bred by Santo Antonio da Bela Vista and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, did not lose her beauty but today lost a bit of her attitude, she ended fourth in this though class. Majeeda KA (Mikado KA x Magnum’s Tulip), bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Bembom Arabians from the Netherlands, closed the class as fifth. In the class for senior mares of eight year and older it were two “Polish giants” that were battling. With a minimal difference, the beautiful bay Primera (Eden C x Preria), bred by Janow Podlaski Stud and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, took the win. Not only for her high points on type and head & neck, but also for the high points on her solid body & topline. Right after Primera it was the grey Empera (Kabsztad x Emiriona), bred by Michałow Stud and owned by Flaxman Arabians, that closely approached the first place with high marks for her exceptional movement. Floressah W (Bishr x Felesta W), bred by A. Blaak-Knoop from the Netherlands and owned by Bembom Arabians, brought the female classes of the regular purebreds to an end. Three competitors in the class of senior stallions four to seven year old, whereby D Khair (BS Raeed x Magic Mon Amour), bred by Dubai Stud and owned by Al Hmoud Stud, took the first place. This stallion showed himself really good, he has a very luxurious type and a beautiful head which both were awarded with a 10. The remarkable chestnut Evangelos KA (WH Justice x Eden May), bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Barbour Stud, had better points for his movements, which took him to a second place. A very impressive Wadi Kahil (Kahil Al Shaqab x Wadi Halfa), bred by Michałow Stud and owned by Flaxman Arabians, ended on the third place. This stallion is an impressive showman, who – especially in the presenting round – pumped himself up, showing a muscular great shaped neck and a powerful trot that was awarded with two times 10. 98 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
The last class of senior stallions, stallions of eight year and older, had three competitors where, by far with more than 2 points difference, Antaris OS (RFI Farid x Justina), bred by Osterhof Stud and owned by Ajman Stud, ranked first. This beautiful stallion gained two times 10 for his outstanding type and three times 6 and three times 9.5 for his strong legs and movement. A really impressive stallion! The second placed Fazit-B (Monther Al Nasser x Fazia-B), bred and owned by Barakah Arabians from Denmark, really resembles his sire in my opinion, also a very appealing stallion in my opinion. LB Genesis (WH Justice x Bess-Ginger), bred by LB Arabians from Norway and owned by Idol’s Eye Arabians, Mrs. C.A. van Wengerden, ended third. This nicely moving grey showed with attitude but mainly due to loss of points on body & topline came just 0.17 points too short to go to the finals. After the halter classes for regular purebreds, there followed three classes for Straight Egyptian purebreds. The first class was the class of junior fillies, having horses in the arena with ages from yearling to two year old. The first place in this class went to Maria MA (Ayal’s Pearl x HV Ramses Mishaala), bred and owned by Yassin Baker, a very attractive dark chestnut filly, high on her legs that were awarded with three times 6. The very typy Dana Al Rashediah ( Jamil Al Rayyan x Maleeha Al Rashediah), bred and owned by Al Rashediah Stud, ranked second, followed by Hanaya Quadaria (Kenz Al Baydaa x Questurat Al Fawaz), bred and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud. The really young CB Zsa Zsa Gabor (Haleem Al Safi x Guidamis S Fayfaan), bred and owned by Claudia Brugman of Brugman Arabians, was quite insecure and impressed with the surroundings, due to which her presentation was a bit off. Nevertheless she is a good filly that undoubtedly will mature and develop nicely. In the class of Straight Egyptian senior mares, varying from four to eleven years old, the very beautiful Hanaya Amirah (Kenz Al Baydaa x Ameerat Al Hejra), bred and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud took the win. A very luxurious and refined mare with exotic Egyptian looks, awarded with a 10 for type and two times 10 for head & neck. Salma Al Rashediah (Suhal Al Nasser x Sallamah Ezzain), bred and owned by Al Rashediah Stud, also took a ten for head & neck and was allowed to line up as second. Questurat Al Fawaz (Al Raheb AA x HV Ramses Mashallah), bred and owned by Kfar Arabe, Yassin Baker and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud is a half sister of the winner with the SE junior mares and dam of the second placed SE junior mare contender. This white pearl can already from far be recognized as a true Arabian, I remembered here from earlier appearances at inter alia the Tulip Cup in the Netherlands. A real beauty in my eyes, that in this class had to settle for the third place. In the class for Straight Egyptian senior stallions, there was only one competitor and therefore the win in this class,
with a great went to Safeer By Sibilla (MG Magic Ghassan x Magic Sibilla), bred by Abagnale Marinella and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud. The last class before the lunch break was the Liberty class. With a whopping three times 20 for movement, the powerful stallion Etoryk (Om El Shahmaan x Etnologia), bred by Janow Podlaski and owned by Flaxman Arabians, was placed rightly so on the first place by his handler Peter Wilms. It is always a real joy to see this combination conquer the ring, what a vibe! The pretty chestnut Karam Albidayer with his owner and handler Alicia La Morella was placed second and AF Bryco, with his owner and handler Joyce van Nispen tot Pannerden, ended third. After a well-deserved lunch break the program continued at 1 pm with the championships. The first championship to take place was the championship for yearling fillies and here it was a real “battle of the titans”, between the Wadee Al Shaqab daughters CBA Indiyana and DA Amira. In the end it appeared that DA Amira was the judges’ favorite and she took the gold medal home to Austria for her happy breeder and owner Cornelia Kolnberger. CBA Indiyana then rightly so gained the next most precious metal, the silver. Despina AA made sure that the bronze was secured for her breeders and owners from Israel. In the championship for yearling colts there was no surprise for me that the gold medal went to the pretty Tuareg AA, followed by the bays Bader Akmal with silver and Roweidan Nesma with bronze. In the championship for junior fillies,
the gold medal went to the impressive AJ Tiran with gold, followed by the almost even as beautiful Amaltea Regalis with the silver, both for Hanaya Arabian Stud. The beautiful IEA Yemaya took, much to the pleasant surprise of her owner, the bronze medal with her to the Netherlands. The championship of junior colts was, a bit to my surprise, won by Sinmar Albidayer, who took the gold medal home. The wonderful AJ Elaf, the horse with the highest points of the show, won the silver medal and Rannan Akmal made that the bronze medal went to Saudi Arabia. Again I had thought differently, but even a unanimous gold medal decision was there for Razan Albidayer in the championship for senior mares, where after stable mates Primera and Ever Essence WHA respectively won the silver and bronze medals for Hanaya Arabian Stud. The senior stallions championships was a unanimous vote on all medals, resulting in the great Antaris OS collecting the gold, followed by the refined D Khair with silver and the remarkable Evangelos KA with the bronze. With these championships the Elran Cup 2020 came to an end. A very nice event, organized in a time when people need to be able to change their senses, relax, take in some positivity and enjoy the beauty of our Arabian breed. A big thank you to the Everars family to make this all possible during these difficult times! Hopefully the Elran Cup 2021 is there again in its usual bigger setting in a less uncertain time. Until then, stay safe and healthy and maybe we will meet at one of the other shows that may go on during this 2020 season… q

Del Vacchio Arabians, based in the charming Italian region of Puglia, is a relatively new location on the map of European breeders. Eugenio Del Vacchio, the owner and founder of the stud, is an ambitious and hardworking individual with a strong desire to make his own way in the world of Arabian horses. He takes pride in both of his enterprises; a well-established family business and a newly created breeding programme. However, it is Vesuvius DPA (EF Kingston x Psymply Red VF by Psymadre), a charismatic chestnut stallion that he recently purchased from Kristi and Janel Hopp, that he considers the greatest love of his life.

Kamila: You are the CEO of a large leather manufacturing company. How did you get involved in Arabian horses? Eugenio: I am proud to be the CEO of Del Vacchio Leather Diffusion (www.delvacchioleather.it), a famous Italian tannery run by Del Vacchio family for generations. We strongly believe in the need to preserve the skills passed on from generation to generation and to create sustainable value for the local society and the environment in the Solofra district. I am also the CEO of Del Vacchio Immobiliare, a real estate company that organizes unforgettable stays in luxurious homes located in Puglia (www.casedifiaba.it) and soon also in the Amalfi coast. Following a loss in municipal elections in 2017, I realized that animals, Arabian horses in particular, are much more affectionate and loyal than some people. Kamila: Where did you see Vesuvius DPA for the first time and what was so special about him that persuaded you to buy and promote this elegant chestnut stallion? Eugenio: It was at AF Training Centre run by Antonio Fusco and it was love at first sight! His incredible

personality immediately captured my attention. His presence makes me happy and serene. I wish I could be with him all the time just to capture all the positive energy that he releases. The connection between us goes beyond any human relationship. Kamila: If you could use only three words to describe Vesuvius, which words would that be and why? Eugenio: Big, elegant and sweet. With his impressive height of 162 cm at the withers, I call him my Big Cuddly Toy. At the same time, his size does not stop him from floating in the air in an elegant and graceful manner. Vesuvius loves being pampered but he always gives so much sweetness and tenderness in return that you could spend your entire life spoiling him. Kamila: Vesuvius is a predominantly Polish and Russian cross. These bloodlines have become less popular in the past few years. What benefits from using Vesuvius can you outline for potential breeders that would like to use him in their breeding programmes? Which qualities does Vesuvius consistently pass onto his progeny? Eugenio: Combining a double dose of Padrons Psy-

che, the horse that has made history in and outside of the USA and started a new dynasty of champions, Vesuvius carries a great genetic prepotency and passes many of his best traits to his foals. This distinctly masculine stallion with an exhilarating movement has already proved to be an excellent sire capable of stamping his get with substantial structure and an dynamic, pulse-stirring trot. From the moment they are born, Vesuvius’s offspring exhibit athletic strength and undeniable charisma. In my opinion, this is what majority of breeders are looking for in a breeding stallion and, later, also in his progeny. At least, this is what I am looking for. You cannot go wrong with Vesuvius. All his foals are good-looking, healthy and having a bright future ahead of them, both in the showring and in the breeding barn. Kamila: Which bloodlines and mare types, in your opinion, cross well with Vesuvius? Eugenio: I would suggest Straight Egyptian mares as well as the ones descending from WH Justice and Thee Desperado lines. Their excellent type and refinement combine well with Vesuvius’s athletic silhouette, dynamic movement and impressive size.
Kamila: Have there been any exciting foals by Vesuvius so far? Eugenio: All of his foals are special to me, but I have a soft spot for the first filly by Vesuvius that was born at Del Vacchio Arabians, Alayta H (out of Anisah Star by Windsprees Mirage), a super elegant and refined chestnut filly of exceptional balance and commanding charisma. Kamila: When describing an Arabian horse, its amazing appearance, breath-taking movement and undeniable magnetism are always mentioned in one form or another. What about the personality and disposition of a horse? Are they important to you? Eugenio: Of course! The beauty of an Arabian horse is not only about its physical appearance, but also about its unique personality and sweet temperament. What is more, a breeding stallion should combine masculinity and athleticism with gentleness and kind disposition. Vesuvius possesses all these traits and that is why I love him so much! Kamila: During the Menton Show, Vesuvius DPA was fourth in the strong class of 4-6 years old stal-

lions. The competition was tough, but what do you think could have been done differently for him to get a slightly higher result? Eugenio: We strongly feel that we did our best, but we will definitely continue the hard work going forward. Vesuvius is still a relatively young stallion and he keeps maturing nicely. I am sure that he is more than capable of achieving better results in the future. Kamila: What are you plans in relation to showing Vesuvius in the nearest future? Eugenio: Arabian Horse World Championships 2020 in Paris will be our next stop. I prefer to stay focused on the most important event in the season, without dwelling on other shows. Kamila: In June 2019, you supported a charity event aimed at helping humanitarian initiatives. Could you please share the details with our readers? Eugenio: I would prefer to keep the details to myself. The only thing I can say is that we have always been very sensitive to all sorts of selfless initiatives that serve to relieve the pain of others. Being part of such a noble enterprise fills our hearts with joy.

Il primo show del 2020 in Italia è stato organizzato da Arabite di Claudio Mazza, in una location esclusiva alle porte di Milano, le Scuderie della Malaspina, il 7, 8 e 9 agosto. Il Milan International Cup Arabian Horse Show è stato un successo inaspettato dato il periodo storico che stiamo attraversando, ma la passione che accomuna gli allevatori, i proprietari e gli amanti del Purosangue Arabo si è espressa al meglio, con coraggio e voglia di ricominciare. Uno show d’altri tempi, all’insegna dell’amore vero per il cavallo arabo: simbolo di grazia, di forza, di libertà e di eleganza, i valori esaltati in questo ricco weekend. Arabite ha cercato e trovato una location che fosse all’altezza dell’evento che aveva in mente di realizzare, un posto a misura di cavallo ma anche perfetto per gli ospiti che hanno potuto rilassarsi e godersi appieno lo spettacolo. As always a mega event with all the stars coming! Some countries could not participate but many new very good teams participated. About the Corona rules the prize giving was modified in the E Ch to direct after the class, away from the great final ceremony. This new system without owners, breeders, sponsors where the riders decorated themselves with the ribbons, medals & sashes assisted only by one person was not too bad. The riders liked it to get the awards so fast. The stables were spread over 150 solid stables to keep a large distance for all. Three different Championships from Newcomer Championship in a medium difficult level, Masters Championship in difficult level and as qualifier for the
Finals European Championships for the ten best riders in very difficult level, was offered. Almost the same numbers of entries, in 100 classes as last year!! Show Jumping, Dressage, Reining, Trail and all Pleasure Classes and first time with titles for Hunter Pleasure & Ranch Riding. During four days more than 400 starts! Riding from morning till late evening! A real festival for the Arabian horses under saddle. Normally the experienced riders practice in spring season on open competitions against other breeds. This year nobody could use this events about Corona, all was cancelled. But anyway the riders came and they was very happy to have this great chance in sports and a lot of fun in the costume classes..

Every year we see better quality of horses and riders! The star of this event was the 12 year old, youngest rider Neele Schlichte from Germany, with the stallion Al Ashar. Winning all three Titles- Gold Medals- in Show Jumping!! Elegant, with a great partnership with the very talented horse, she was unbeatable!! The typical speciality of the Arabian horse is the multitalented Sport horse. Many of them showed this in very impressive way. One of the high decorated Trail riders & from the beginning of Sportevents with us, with several successful horses, was
Westerntrainer & Instructor Andre Reitermayr. He risked to show GFH Sandhya, owner Elisabeth Steiner, not only in Trail in the highest level as he did last year successfully, he showed first time this mare in Dressage, in all levels up to Prix St.George, the European Championship pattern. Always with good high marks and in the ribbons! His message was: we all are Arabian horse riders & lovers and we stay together with the multitalented Arabian horses. For this project an extra special award was given! With two E Ch Gold medals was Susanne Hoyler & Haifi el Sorrento GER, winner of last year, the Dressage & finally

About the Coronarules of Austrian Equestrian Federation no Austrian Championships where allowed, so the International Austrian Championships got a new name: Masters Championships. Susanne Schuh & Loggia from Austria reach also European Championships GOLD twice: Traditional Arabian Riding & All Around western. Multitalented as well, they won in Masters Championships Traditional Arabian Riding GOLD, Western Pleasure silver & Ladies Side Saddle Bronze!! Newcomer three times GOLD: Trail, Western Pleasure & Ladies Side Saddle. Next year they are now not able to participate in Newcomer Championships in this disciplines, but in others!! E Ch Classic Pleasure was this year that class, nobody could take in front of VALRIE & Isabel Bartlechner, AUT, the GOLD for first place. With great movement, strength and correctness the GOLD was their! The new Title classes Hunter Pleasure was full with riders from both sections, classic & western. All in very good Hunter outfit. The debut of Daniela Entner and Erasmos, AUT was complete when she was announced GOLD medal Hunter Pleasure. The emotion was high, tears where rolling. Two riders with a long history in the event could this year first time reach the E Ch GOLD: Gerhard Hairas with the horse of Petra Dries, TR Whata Hottie, in Reining, a class with high scores for many riders. The same was in Trail, the scores for most of the starters where over 140!! It was the day of David Grandits with aproofed Rosaleda Qahira, AUT. Very good ride over difficult patterns. David was absolute happy that he did the GOLD. Traditional Arabian riding E Ch GOLD went to Magdalena Zellhofer & Ojinegro Qahira, AUT who was also Show jumping E Ch 4.place and Masters 3.place! Ladies Side Saddle last year gave her concurrents no chance and stayed again in Gold in this Title. Bronze for E Ch All around Western. The Dutch lady Canisia Romani with her not so easy to travel Ashraf al Shams, after building extra a new truck for him, won in impressive way the Western Pleasure Gold and E Ch All Around Silver. Five Nations participated DEN, GER, POL, NED, AUT and for next year we are informed much more will come! The livestream was all over the event from morning till late in the night. All classes also the not so difficult ones where shown and as well accepted. For the young horses from 4 & 5 years an extra trophy was given: Champion Junior Horse Western: GFH Sarankhan & Julia Heindl, GER & Champion Junior Classic Horse UL Marsala & Helena Byrne, DEN. For the Best Pleasure horses as well in combination with Type & Conformation the Champion Pleasure horse trophy western: Loggia & Susanne Schuh, AUT & Classic Haifi el
Sorrento & Susanne Hoyler, GER.. Special awards for the oldest horse:23 years old ENZO with 13 years old Tina Schatz successful in NC Ch traditional Arabian Riding 3.place, Western Pleasure 5.th , Masters Championships Trad.Arabian Riding 4.th & Western Pleasure 6.th. ENZO was a few years ago E Ch Reining Champion and now he as old professor, is now the ideal horse for little Tina to step in the competition riding! The farest way award went to Denmark, Helena & Carina Byrne with two horses travel down from the north over 1.400 km one way. The welcome dinner for all rides was forbidden by the Coronarules and instead of this, a reception with champagne was given. Nice chance to have a chat with old & new friends. The ACA organized this year the National Days of the Arabian Horse, bringing together for the first time in one place the 3 great disciplines of excellence of the Arabian horse, endurance, show and race. Despite the challenge was great in this very special year and the obstacles were numerous, a great quantity and overall quality of Arabian horses, judged and awarded by an international jury, was gathered. Indeed, more than 120 thoroughbred Arabian horses participated, representing 51 farms, stables or owners. 184 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
Hopefully, we could see there the beginnings of a revival of the discipline of the show in France. The results in terms of participation of public and breeders and owners were impressive. Organization took care of the guests supplying all safety protections needed as individual masks and hands gel and recommending distance between each other in the vip area. All French breeders were looking forward to show their horses. For the first time thanks to the extraordinary economic effort by the organizers, the Web Tv Arabian Essence was at
the meeting, supporting the annual festival of the racecourse. On this occasion, Mr. StĂŠphane CHAZEL, president of the ACA and Mr. Alain CHATTON, vice-president, presented the ACA prize to the winner of the first race. Sunday August 16th was the day reserved for the gelding class then for the foal, yearling, junior and senior French Arabian Thoroughbred championships as well as the traditional special trophies rewarding the most beautiful heads, the best movements and the highest scores obtained during the qualifying classes. For the second year in a row, it was in the magnificent setting of the Sichon stadium, with its stands designed by Gustave Eiffel that the many spectators and Internet users were able to admire the spectacle offered by the competitors. All the ingredients were there for the party to be beautiful and it was. Zeus, himself, waited until the end of the trials to let fall the few drops of rain that had threatened since morning. The bet to bring together Arabian horse enthusiasts around these 3 queen disciplines was daring, but to believe all the participants, it was a success far beyond our expectations. The ACA thanks all the participants, partners and service providers who have worked for this great success and looks forward to seeing you in Vichy next year. q

the show to let all the world be in France, in Vicky to enjoy the 3 days of event. On Friday August 14th, it was endurance that opened the ball rolling with the national final of the endurance horse breeding competitions. After the selection made during the regional qualifying competitions, 65 young Arabian horses, thoroughbred or half-bred, competed in the 6 events dedicated to them. In living memory there had never been so many competitors and the quality was so good. On 15th and 16th under a bright sun the Sichon equestrian stadium hosted the 47th edition of the French Arabian Thoroughbred Championship. Despite the exceptional circumstances, many breeders and owners attended and the 63 horses present competed for the titles of French champions and special trophies for the 2020 edition. Saturday August 15 was devoted to the qualifying classes of juniors and seniors, females and males as well as to the class of mares. On Saturday evening, August 15th, after the qualifying classes for the French Arabian Thoroughbred Championship, the meeting was held at the Vichy-Bellerive racecourse. Indeed, for the first time also in Vichy, 2 races reserved for thoroughbred Arabs were scheduled at the start and end of

Also this year Tutto Arabi was present in Tierpark Ströhen for the “different and new show” due to the restrictions of Covid -19. Mr Nils Ismer was brave to not cancel the show even when was almost impossible to believe that the show could be held. All breeders supported the show bringing a lot of horses for the 2 events and even if many people could not travel the answer was over the expectation. In the 2 days of the event we had the pleasure to assist at
the European Show (Ecaho), International B-Show and a class of Geldings, the Championships and Endurance Riding which were parts of the Arabian Horse Days held on 11th and 12th July and greatly organized by Ismer Family. Ismer is a big family of long legacy in horses and animals: the grandfather of Nils, Rolf Ismer was the founder of the Tierpark Zoo. Since 2007 Mr. Nils Ismer is the owner of the Zoo and the Farm. The zoo is just in front of his family house in Ströhen, where the family loves to host friends and once a year this very interesting Arabian horse event, always studded with special moments like the Special Presentation of The Stud and spectacle of camel and dancing horses and the
long-awaited party, this year outdoors under the tend. This is just one of many small details that made the “International Days For Arabian Horses” very special! Ströhen as always made record of entries with 179 Horses in total between the 2 shows and the endurance riding about 30, 45, 61 and 90 km which held on Saturday. For the European Show They have been invited expert judges : H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan From UAE, Mr. Eric Gear from France, the president of Ecaho Mr. Jaroslaw Lacina from Czech Republic and Dr. Gianmarco Aragno Italy. While classes for the International B show took place in the afternoon but with a new pool of judges: Mr. Klaus Beste (Germany), Mr. Jerzy Bialobok (Poland) Mr. Mark Ismer (Germany) and Mrs. Marianne Tengstedt from Denmark. This year Lizette Svensson was first experience in Strohen as ringmaster. DC was Dr. Vet. Mohammed Hammad (Egypt), Dr. Vet. Gianpaolo Teobaldelli (Italy) and Mr. Peter Hegemann (Germany). Special Speaker of the event Mr. Erik Blaak and music by Mr. Lars Grootswagers both from Netherlands. Ismer Stud started with Arabian Horses almost 60 years ago.
The stud was founded with the purchase of the first pure bred arabian mare in the late 1959 by Rolf Ismer. His son Holger developed the stud over 40 years to its present size. Today the stud farm is managed by the third generation of the family, Dr. Nils Ismer. Nowadays it is the largest private Arabian horse stud in Europe. Only Polish State Studs has such a history. Approximately 60 mares and 15 stallions form the breeding stock of the stud. Ismers has many good friends all over the world and the breeding tradition of Ismers Family is present worldwide. We want to thank the whole Ismer Family for the warmth and familiarity that made us spend one of the most beautiful weekends of the year. Each country has its own laws and regulations, regarding the necessary health certificates, customs clearance and quarantine requirement. That does not make things easier. But there is no need to worry. We know the requirements and with our long-term experience with international horse transports you have an expert at your side, you can rely on. You will receive a comprehensive consultation regarding all the preparations for the export. This includes the process and implementation
of import customs and veterinary clearance in the destination country, as well as the booking of any required post-arrival quarantine. Afterwards the horses are then moved in special horse transporter to reach the stable. Everything for your horse transportation is planned to the smallest detail, so that your horses arrive comfortably and safely in the country of destination.
Horse Transport:

We exclusively work with reputable airlines such as Lufthansa, KLM, Martin Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways and experienced horse transporters. The horses entrusted to our care are transported safely to and from the airport by special horse-trucks. At the airlines handling terminal the animals are loaded in disinfected special horse transport containers before shipping by air. Of course the containers

THERMOGRAPHY Science and technology are often applied to the world of horses with extreme caution – if you see the glass as half full – or extremely slowly – if you see it half empty - and so some well-known techniques take sometimes decades to be recognized and applied on a large scale. On the one hand, this is certainly due to the cost of equipment, which naturally tends to decrease and so the same technology becomes more and more accessible to a wider audience. On the other hand, there is a certain lack of dynamism in the system, which does not react to the new proposals as quickly as it should. The use of thermography in horse medicine is a good example of this. WHAT IS THERMOGRAPHY? Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to see and measure thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy, emitted as infrared rays, is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye; it is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive not as light but as heat. Everything with a temperature above absolute zero (i.e. above 273 degree C) emits heat in the form of infrared rays. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared rays. The higher the object’s temperature, the greater the IR radiation emitted. Infrared rays can be seen and the quantity of radiations measured through scales of gray or by showing different temperature areas in different colors, allowing us to see what our eyes cannot, i.e. the heat emitted by an object. Infrared thermographic cameras produce images of invisible infrared or heat radiation and provide an important noncontact tool to measure temperatures. Nearly everything, including inanimate objects, emits infrared light and gets hot before it fails, making infrared cameras extremely costeffective, valuable diagnostic tools in many diverse fields of application, such as biology, volcanology, ecology, enginee242 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
LA TERMOGRAFIA La scienza e la tecnica vengono applicate al mondo del cavallo spesso con estrema prudenza – se si vuole vedere il bicchiere mezzo pieno – ovvero con estrema lentezza – bicchiere mezzo vuoto – e dunque alcune tecniche ben note impiegano anni, a volte decenni, per essere riconosciute ed applicate su larga scala. Questo fenomeno è certamente dovuto, da un lato, al costo delle apparecchiature che, come è naturale, tende a ridursi e quindi le stesse tecnologie sono via via accessibili ad un pubblico più vasto, dall’altra ad una certa inerzia del sistema che non recepisce con la dovuta solerzia le nuove proposte che vengono dal mondo della ricerca. L’uso della termografia in ippiatria è un buon esempio di quanto descritto. COSA È LA TERMOGRAFIA Per termografia s’intende l’utilizzo di una telecamera a infrarossi (o termocamera), per lo scopo di rendere visibile e misurare l’energia termica emessa da un oggetto. L’energia termica, emessa sotto forma di raggi infrarossi, consiste in luce la cui lunghezza d’onda risulta troppo grande per essere individuata dall’occhio dell’uomo; si tratta infatti di quella porzione di radiazione elettromagnetica che non viene più percepita come luce bensì come calore. Tutti gli elementi con una temperatura al di sopra dello zero assoluto (cioè, con temperatura superiore a meno 273 gradi centigradi circa) emettono calore, in forma di raggi infrarossi. Anche oggetti che hanno una temperatura molto bassa, come i cubetti di ghiaccio, emettono dunque raggi infrarossi. Più è alta la temperatura dell’oggetto, più quest’ultimo irradierà raggi infrarossi. Se si riescono a visualizzare i raggi infrarossi, e a misurare la quantità di radiazioni emesse, magari attraverso scale di grigio o, meglio, indicando aree a diversa temperatura con colori diversi, ci sarà possibile percepire ciò che il nostro occhio non è in grado di vedere: il calore emesso da una superficie. Le termocamere producono appunto immagini visibili di invisibili radiazioni infrarosse, o radiazioni di calore, e rappresentano pertanto un importante strumento di misurazione delle temperature, che non necessita di contatto. Partendo dalla considerazione che anche gli oggetti inanimati possono emettere raggi infrarossi, e che quasi tutte le apparecchiature, prima di danneggiarsi, si surriscaldano, dobbiamo concludere che le termocamere rappresentano

graphy ring, mechanics and others. As infrared imaging develops and improves and thermographic cameras become more and more sensitive, new applications are continually created and developed. The applications that we are particularly interested in are those connected with biology and, especially, veterinary medicine, which benefit from thermographic cameras that can detect surface temperature changes by a tenth or even one hundredth of a grade Centigrade. Digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI) and the subsequent analysis has led to considerable progress in assessing and comparing data as well as exact and time-deferred measurement of temperatures. IMAGING DIAGNOSTICS Thermography deserves to be given a place in medicine among diagnostic techniques (those required to understand the reasons of a disease, rather than curing it) and particularly among imaging diagnostics, which benefits also from other more or less recent tools: x-rays, scans, tomography and others. From this point of view, an important aspect of thermography is its execution time. Whereas diagnosis with traditional x-rays is rather long, due to the time required to develop the radiographs (but digital equipments are also available today, very innovative compared to the traditional methods), thermography imaging can be obtained immediately, saved in digital format and processed straight away through a laptop computer. In addition, the cost of a single image is very low, once the initial, high cost of the thermographic camera and its application software has been amortized. However, as it is often the case with modern technology, the newer models are generally better and less expensive than their predecessors, which is what usually happens with digital cameras or computers. Essentially, once the thermographic camera has been purchased, a veterinarian is encouraged to use it under many circumstances, with the two-pronged result of providing useful and accurate information to the client and investigating new and interesting fields of application. THERMOGRAPHY AND VETERINARY Measuring the surface temperature of living organism is not a new science. Ancient Greeks were already observing the drying-up process of mud spread thinly on the human body, and the fact that the mud dried up more quickly on certain body areas led them to conclude that some parts of the human bodies were warmer than others. Veterinary application of thermography can be seen as the natural heir of these ancient observations.

Con il perfezionarsi delle tecniche di visualizzazione delle radiazioni infrarosse, con l’aumentare della sensibilità delle termocamere, vengono continuamente concepite e sviluppate nuove applicazioni. Quelle che ci interessano in particolare sono quelle legate alla biologia, ed in particolare alla ippiatria, che si giovano di termocamere in grado di distinguere temperature superficiali che differiscono per decimi, o addirittura centesimi, di grado centigrado. L’ottenimento di immagini digitali ed il loro successivo studio (con termine inglese, si parla in questo caso di Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, o di DITI) ha permesso infine rilevanti progressi in termini di valutazione e comparazione di dati, nonché la misurazione esatta e differita nel tempo della temperatura di una superficie. LA DIAGNOSTICA PER IMMAGINI La termografia si inserisce dunque di diritto, in medicina, tra le tecniche di diagnosi (quelle che servono a comprendere le ragioni di un malessere, più che a curarlo) ed in particolare nella diagnostica per immagini, che si giova anche di altri strumenti più o meno recenti: la radiografia, l’ecogragia, la tomografia ed altre ancora. Da questo punto di vista, un aspetto importane relativo alla termografia è legato alla rapidità di esecuzione: mentre ad esempio per la radiografia tradizionale i tempi per la diagnosi sono piuttosto lunghi, perché è necessario sviluppare le lastre (ma anche per questa tecnica sono oggi disponibili apparecchiature digitali, molto innovative rispetto a quelle tradizionali), per la termografia le immagini sono ottenute immediatamente, salvate in formato digitale ed immediatamente elaborate, disponendo di un computer portatile. Inoltre, il costo di una singola immagine è molto basso, una volta ammortizzato il costo iniziale della termocamera e dei relativi programmi di applicazione che è al contrario molto elevato, anche se come per altri apparecchi ad elevato contenuto tecnologico i nuovi modelli sono di solito migliori e meno cari dei precedenti, come capita ad esempio per le fotocamere digitali o per i computer.. Nella pratica, una volta acquistata una termocamera, un veterinario è quindi invogliato ad utilizzarla in molte situazioni, con il duplice risultato di fornire ai clienti molte informazioni preziose e puntuali, e di indagare sempre nuovi ed interessanti ambiti applicativi. Thermo Thermography is just a technologically advanced evolution of the Greek mud technique; it shows which areas of the body are warmer and which are colder, enabling us to compare various parts on both sides of the body. The superficial temperature of a body part changes according to many variables: ambient temperature, higher or lower flow of blood in capillaries underneath the skin, presence of local alterations etc. Local temperature variations are at the basis of veterinary applications. When a tissue or an organ does not work properly, the body produces a reaction called inflammation. The typical sign of inflammation is the heat produced on that area, which spreads to nearby tissues. This way, the skin covering an inflamed area (an organ, a joint, a muscle) appears of a different color compared to the neighboring areas or to the so-called counterlateral part, i.e. the corresponding part on the other side of the (healthy) body. When the inflammation is superficial and violent, the temperature differences can be felt also on the palm of our hand. But when these differences are less than 2ºC, it becomes difficult to detect them directly, so thermography becomes indispensible. In addition, the horse’s coat somehow mitigates and masks the differences, given the well-known insulating properties of hairs. Thermography can highlight the inflamed areas and so localize the problems that would otherwise be difficult to spot. The sensitivity of the device is obviously of utmost importance in order to obtain concrete results, but the models that are available on the market today are capable of identifying temperature differences of just 0.01°C. Thanks to thermography, the inflammation to a tendon can be diagnosed up to 2 weeks before this can be done through other techniques. A similar advantage is often fundamental in proposing the most appropriate treatments and in avoiding that further damage is caused by getting the horses to work in far from perfect conditions. Once the inflamed area is identified, this can be appropriately treated so that a normal condition than be gradually restored. Thermography helps also in this sense, as it assesses the effectiveness of the treatment adopted to control the inflammation. This aspect is less obvious and secondary than one might think. As every owner knows, being able to assess the progress of an injury is often arduous, and the tools are not always objective. The gradual reduction of the inflammation, on the other hand, can be easily seen through a thermpographic camera, to the joy of the veterinarian and of the owner. In this sense, the thermographic camera is a previous tool also, if not above all, for the veterinarian, who can quickly ascertain the appropriateness of the treatment and, if necessary, recommend timely changes in the cure. smi viventi non è una scienza nuova, tanto è vero che già nell’antica Grecia erano state condotte osservazioni sul seccarsi del fango spalmato in sottili strati sul corpo umano, e valutando come esistessero zone corporee più calde al di sopra delle quali il fango seccava più rapidamente. Le applicazioni veterinarie della termografia possono essere considerate le naturali “discendenti” di queste antiche osservazioni. La termografia non è altro, infatti, che una sofisticata evoluzione della tecnica greca del fango: essa ci indica infatti quali zone del corpo sono più calde e quali più fredde, e permette di fare confronti tra e stesse parti dei due lati del corpo. La temperatura superficiale di una zona del corpo cambia in funzione di molte variabili: temperatura ambientale, maggiore o minore passaggio di sangue nei capillari al di sotto della pelle, presenza di alterazioni locali. Sono proprio le modificazioni locali quelle che stanno alla base delle applicazioni veterinarie. Infatti, quando un tessuto o un organo non funziona regolarmente, l’organismo produce una reazione che si chiama, manco a dirlo, infiammazione. Segno tipico della infiammazione è appunto il calore della parte, che si diffonde ai tessuti tutto intorno. In questo modo, la pelle che ricopre una zona infiammata (un organo, una articolazione, un muscolo) apparirà di colore diverso rispetto alle zone circostanti, oppure alla parte detta controlaterale, quella cioè corrispondente dell’altro lato del corpo, sano. Quando l’infiammazione è superficiale e violenta, si possono percepire anche con il tocco del palmo della nostra mano differenze di temperatura. Quando però queste differenze sono al di sotto dei 2 °C, diventano di difficile rilievo diretto, e la termografia diventa indispensabile; inoltre, la presenza del pelo in qualche modo mitiga e maschera le differenze, per le note proprietà coibentanti che sono parte dello specifico compito dei peli e dei crini. Dunque, attraverso la termografia si possono evidenziare le parti infiammate, ed in questo modo localizzare i problemi che, diversamente, potrebbero essere di difficile inquadramento. Ovviamente, la sensibilità dell’apparecchio è della massima importanza per poter arrivare a risultati concreti, ma oggi sono disponibili modelli in grado di differenziare zone a temperature diverse per soli 0,01 °C. Per mezzo della termografia, una infiammazione ad un tendine può essere diagnosticata sino a 2 settimane prima di quanto sarebbe possibile con altre tecniche. Un simile vantaggio si rivela spesso determinante nel proporre i trattamenti più opportuni e nell’evitare che, nel far lavorare cavalli in condizioni non perfette, si sovrapponga danno a danno. Una volta individuata la sede di una infiammazione, questa potrà essere opportunamente trattata, ripristinando a poco a poco la normalità. Anche in questo caso, la termografia potrà esserci di grande aiuto, verificando l’efficacia dei trat-

In the same way, it is possible to highlight muscular problems that are difficult to detect through other techniques. Thermography can also be useful to diagnose abscesses inside the hoof, to confirm the rare cases of shoulder lameness or to highlight signs of inflammation more in general. The main applications of thermography to the equine field are connected with lameness and muscle, tendon or joint inflammations. However, the field of application has not got such clear demarcation. With a thermographic camera we can notice the increase in temperature of a horse after a standard workout, determining the level of fitness, a term that every sports person knows well. We can also study its effectiveness in dispersing heat. This application, which seems to come out of a sci-fi movie, is already used on men and on race dogs, in combination with appropriate blood analyses. The results obtained are excellent. Once the saddle has been removed, we can also detect which areas were more loaded, hence more prone to risks in the future. Thanks to this, we can also determine the best saddle that “sits” more comfortably on each individual horse. By analyzing the thermographic images we can also ascertain local decreases in temperature due, for example, to a lower blood flow, as in the case of thrombosis. Finally, we can also measure the heat emitted into the surrounding environment, assessing, albeit indirectly, the energy use of an individual or a group of horses. q

Invece, la progressiva scomparsa della infiammazione può essere agevolmente visualizzata attraverso una termocamera, con grande soddisfazione sia del veterinario che del proprietario. In questo senso, la termocamera è uno strumento prezioso anche, se non soprattutto, per il veterinario, che può controllare la correttezza di un trattamento in tempi brevi e può proporre eventuali aggiustamenti tempestivi. TERMOGRAFIA ED IPPIATRIA La possibilità di visualizzare precocemente le infiammazioni è di estremo interesse in medicina equina, per esempio per il controllo dello stato degli arti, in presenza di zoppie di difficile definizione. Spesso il rilievo di una alterazione della temperatura superficiale serve da “guida” per procedere poi ad un controllo accurato miratola punto dove le alterazioni sono state riscontrate. Caso tipico è quello della articolazione riscontrata abnormemente calda attraverso una termografia, che viene successivamente controllata mediante radiografie molto specifiche ed accurate, spesso evidenziando lesioni sfuggite al primo controllo. Nello stesso modo possono essere evidenziati malanni muscolari difficili da evidenziare con altre tecniche. La termografia può poi essere utile anche per la diagnosi di ascessi all’interno dello zoccolo, per confermare le rare zoppie “di spalla”, o per evidenziare segni di infiammazione più in generale. Le applicazioni principali della termografia al campo equino sono dunque legate a zoppie, ad infiammazioni muscolari e tendinee, oppure articolari. Tuttavia, il campo di applicazione non è così strettamente delineato: si può definire con una termocamera l’aumento di temperatura di un cavallo in seguito ad un lavoro standard, determinandone così il livello di “fitness”, parola che ogni sportivo umano ben conosce. Se ne può studiare la efficacia nella dispersione del calore. Questa applicazione, che appare fantascientifica, è già praticata oltre che sull’uomo sul cane da corsa, in combinazione con adatte analisi del sangue, frnendo eccellenti risultati. Si può anche, tolta la sella, valutare quali zone siano state maggiormente compresse, e possano dunque andare soggette a problemi. Proprio in questo modo, si può determinare quale sia la sella che più correttamente “veste” ogni singolo cavallo. Attraverso l’analisi di immagini termografiche si possono valutare anche diminuzioni locali della temperatura, dovute ad esempio a diminuito afflusso di sangue, come nel caso della trombosi. Si può infine misurare il calore ceduto all’ambiente circostante, delineando seppure indirettamente il dispendio energetico di un singolo o di un gruppo di animali. q www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 245
