• EROGANT 2009 by WH Justice x Raville ( Abakan) was already very successful in the show ring as a stallion but was gelded as a 3 year old to enter the western sport together with Monica. In the past 10 years they have achieved many successes, including several European championships sport for Arabian horses in Denmark, Poland and Austria. Erogant has also won many championships at shows, the best of which was of course the gold medal gelding and crowd favorite at the All Nations cup in Aachen. Because of all these achievements he also received the WAHO trophy.

• EROGON 2007 by Honnors x Raville ( Abakan) unfortunately we had to say goodbye to him in 2016. But in his short life he achieved many championships especially at shows and under the western saddle with Monica and Jolanda.

• ERO’S ROLEXX 2016 by Excalibur ea x Raville ( Abakan) is Jolanda her new horse. At shows this champion horse is a beautiful appearance and a show canon. With Jolanda he competes in several in hand western classes and has recently been under saddle.

• PENTHOR 1994 by Abakan x Pengona. Purchased as a foal and owned by Angela ever since. Together they have performed at the highest level western at Dutch championships, but also at European Championships in Denmark, Poland and Austria where they won many championships and even the European All Round Championship western. And also achieved a WAHO trophy. Unfortunately they had to say goodbye to him in 2021.

The van Duyvenbode Family has been breeding Arabian horses for over 40 years in the Netherlands, and there have been many geldings. We would like to highlight a few special ones. At the beautiful equine facility of the Sanadiva Legacy In Essen, Germany, we find Jan Lemmens training center. Together with his fiancée Dr. Lisa Heckenbuecker, he runs JL Training Center.

Already as a young boy, Jan was always surrounded by horses. He started his career with Jadem Arabians, where he learned more about breeding and handling youngsters.

Afterwards he went to the US to learn from Robin Hopkinson. Together with Robin, he attended the prestigious Scottsdale Arabian horse show where he met Glenn Schoukens. After his experience in the US, Jan decided to work at Schoukens Training Center, where he learned all he could about preparing and conditioning Arabian horses for the show.

It was back in 2017 when he moved to Frank Spönle training Center where he met his soon-to-be wife Lisa Heckenbuecker. As daughter of a breeder, Lisa has been involved with Arabians at a very young age. Her father, Ralf Heckenbuecker was an admirer of the El Shaklan lines. With his foundation mare Om el Sanadiva (Sanadik el Shaklan x De La Reina), he founded the Sanadiva Legacy. Om el Sanadiva became the World Junior champion filly in Paris and gifted Ralf and Lisa with some fantastic offspring. One of her first

The combination of Sanadiva with Kubinec has been repeated many times, giving all fantastic offspring. Some of which are still owned by Lisa today and that found the foundation of her current breeding program.

Jan and Lisa opened the doors of JL Training Center in 2021. One of their strength is that all training horses are treated individually. They have room for around 15 training horses which makes sure all the horses get their

time and attention they need. All training horses are being turned out every day and are worked in either the outdoor or indoor arena that is part of their facility. Since the opening of the training center, Jan and Lisa already achieved great results which includes Gold medal wins at the Bruges show, Country life show, German Nationals and the show in Ströhen. With a strong team and tons of experience, the best of JL Training Center is only yet to come! q

On the occasion of the 80th Venice Film Festival, we did not miss the opportunity to be there as a magazine. The intention is to broaden the visibility of our magazine and especially the world of the Arabian horse as much as possible outside our slice of the market. We think that making the world of the Arabian horse better known and more mainstream can help the whole system expand, creating access to new energies and new synergies. The effort is very great but the desire to find new stimulation, new languages, new scenarios sustains us in this adventure.

The projects that have been born in these years and that have made us converse with worlds outside the Arabian horse, that of art and luxury with LLL, Luxury, Leisure, Lifestyle or deepen already established ties from the female point of view with the We, Women project, all these works have allowed us to glimpse new possibilities, made us imagine new narrative languages.

We have to thank those who together with us believed in this idea and provided their image and ideas giving creative energy to our presence in Venice.

Mindy Peters, who has long stood by the We, Women project wanted to be present at this juncture as well by donating t-shirts created in collaboration with We, Women project and which had already sold out in Menton. After the huge success in the VIP area of the Mediterranean & Arab Countries Arabian Horse Championship 2023 in terms of spreading the

message in support of women and interest from a growing number of people We, Women project and Mindy Peters decided to take part in the Tutto Arabi initiative and to be present in Venice at the Lido as part of the Film Festival at Tutto Arabi stand where the t-shirts will be promoted with global visibility, bringing to the world the messages chosen to support women around the world:

“When women support each other incredible things happen.”

“Shout out to all the amazing men who sincerely support women”

As far as the luxury sector is concerned, two are the excellent names of Made in Italy, promoters of the high craftsmanship that distinguishes Italians all over the world combined with mastery in design, who wanted to join Tutto Arabi in this great promotional operation.

Giancarlo Petriglia, an important name in Italian design who creates women’s bags that are true works of art in his Milan atelier-gallery where he welcomes many international fashion names his loyal customers.

His creations are as precious as jewelry, one-of-a-kind pieces that are worn as luxurious red carpet accessories. The fabulous details are impeccably curated. Each bag is a story in itself, to be discovered.

Devis Palazzi, master goldsmith who creates unique pieces of jewelry which are born from an intuition that becomes a work of art.

The third brand to accompany us to Venice is LT Consulting which has been involved in integrated communication strategies and services for more than 20 years. It helps companies, many in the film industry, to better communicate and set up and manage their presence at international trade shows and in their retail. Consulting, planning, logistics and setup, as well as design and production of all merchandising. LT Consulting is executive in communication and with Tutto Arabi has shared for many years the spirit open to the world while remaining faithful to attention to detail and promptness of execution for the best satisfaction of its national and international clients.

Bigdungbag is a startup that is entering the world with a design product for which it holds the patent and wants to position itself between the equestrian sector and the world of luxury. It proposes the prototype of a cross-use accessory for the entire equestrian world, a bag that allows to keep horses and environment clean and can be used in all areas of equestrian, sports, morphology, advertising, art, photography, and fairs. Maggiolen Uscotti, the founder, also decided to promote her startup in the pages of Tutto Arabi. She believes in innovation, beauty and hers is a design proposal applicable to the world of equestrian luxury.

Simone Bergamaschi accompanied us for a stretch of this journey in search of a new narrative language, an issue he feels strongly about and is developing together with Tutto Arabi.

This 11th edition of the Milan International Cup and Egyptian Event was extraordinary! Thanks to the synergy between CAVALLI IN VILLA, the association that devised the format created to foster communication and the promotion of the horse as a standard bearer of culture and economy, and ARABITE HORSE EVENTS, Italian excellence in the organisation of Arabian horse morphology events, three days full of appointments that united history, culture and passion for horses.

The event was held at VILLA SPINEDA GASPARIN LOREDAN, a fabulous 18th-century Palladian Villa in the municipality of Volpago del Montello (Tv), very close to Venice. There were numerous activities in addition to Arabian Morphology, Equestrian Theatre, Carriages in the Villa, and speeches by Giorgio Merli and Vittorio Sgarbi. Godmother of the event Adriana Volpe, who awarded the winners by also presenting them with elegant horse blankets of the Emma Alice Martin brand, a luxury product of which she herself is a partner. The best handlers presented Arabian horses of rare beauty from prestigious stables in

Italy, Europe and the Middle East, to name but a few: ALJASSIMYA Stud from Qatar, ALKAHASHAB Stud and ALDANAT Stud from Kuwait, DUBAI ARABIAN HORSE STUD and AL REMAS ARABIAN HORSE STUD from the United Arab Emirates , ALFALA Stud from Saudi Arabia, TM ARABIAN STUD from Slovakia and AL HAMIE STUD from Germany.

Arabite Horse Events had an outstanding team, Claudio Mazza and Claudia Orsi are honoured to have worked with the judges Mrs. Janice Aileen McCrea Wight (USA), Mr. Basil Jaadan (Sirya), Mr Ahmed Hamza (Egypt), Mr Tomas Tarczynski (Poland) and Mr Kadan Mohammad Azez (Israel), ring master Dr. Vet Mohamed Hammad (Egypt), the DCs mrs. Ils van dun (Belgium) and dr.vet Patricia Emanuelsen (Denmark). Horses presented by no less than two speakers, the best in the world: Eric Blaak and Nico Belloni, and music by our DJ Mr. Lars Grootswagers on which the wonderful Arabian horses danced. A tribute to Paulo Saliba

This year’s Brazilian National Arabian Horse Show was held between July 5th and 10th at the ever beautiful show grounds of Helvetia Riding Center in the city of Indaiatuba, São Paulo. For its 42nd edition the presentation of the horses was once again brought outdoors (after some years of being held indoors) and a magnificent structure was built around the ring to host a truly diverse and happy audience, gathering people from all the regions in Brazil and from all over the world.

It was also the time and place for all breeders and friends to get together to pay a tribute to Paulo Saliba, who passed away early this year after a long and courageous battle against cancer. A much necessary and deserved homage indeed, beautifully designed by the board of ABCCA (The Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association) alongside with the Saliba family, led by Ricardo Saliba, Paulo’s brother. So important was his lifetime contribution to the breed that the National Show this year was officially dedicated to him. It was the first time in history that a National Show was named after a breeder.

For the President of ABCCA, Rodrigo Forte, the huge success of the event is the crowning of fours years of hard work for him and his entire team:

“It takes an entire year to organize a National Show. We finish one edition and start working on the next one right away. Due to the pandemics and its financial challenges, the last three editions of our National Show had to be done in the indoor format. For the year 2023 it was our big challenge as well as a great surprise to the public to make the show once again in the outdoor format. That required even more significant investments, especially in terms of building the stands where the public stood. It is worth remembering that this was the fourth National Show done under our administration, and it will be the last since our term ends this year. I feel compelled to say that for all of us working for ABCCA the feeling is that we accomplished our mission, not to mention our joy to see the great success achieved by the show this year, measured by the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from the exhibitors, the breeders and the public

in general during and after the show. This year we registered a record number of foreign visitors at the show and they were positively impressed not only by the quality of the horses but also with the overall organization, comfort and especially the friendly and joyful atmosphere everywhere. It is also important to emphasize that a horse show is a collective effort and therefore I take this opportunity to once again thank all the exhibitors, sponsors, partners, directors and staff of ABCCA that contributed to the success of this 42nd edition of the Brazilian National Show. With no arrogance whatsoever, it is fair to affirm that we have here in Brazil one of the most important shows in the Arabian Horse World and I am positive that it will get even better as we go due to the commitment of the Brazilian breeders and the excellent relations that we developed with people from all over the world that recognize and cherish our work. You are all hereby officially invited to join us in 2024!”

In line with this perception one of our international guests of honor, Bart Van Buggenhout commented:

“This was my first ever time at the Brazilian Nationals and I was very pleasantly surprised. The set up was just stunning, loved the stands how comfortable and spacious it was nonetheless all still within easy reach for socializing with everyone around. Service was well organized. The arena … always the one thing many shows lack, was perfect with beautiful footing. The ring was small enough to be close to the horses and give you the feeling that you are amongst them. On the other side large enough to give the horses a chance to perform. See you next year for another fun gathering.”

Once again the event started with the contenders of the Brazil Cup entering the ring on Wednesday alongside with the Performance classes.

THE 2023 BRAZILIAN NATIONAL SHOW

The National Arabian Horse show halter classes started officially on Thursday, after the final Performance classes in Western and English Pleasure in the morning, namely: Junior Junior Filly, Junior Colt, Young Filly, Colt and finalizing the day with Liberty class. Right after the end of the classes back to the barns, a special presentation was hosted by a group of Brazilian handlers that joined forces and gave the audience a parade of some of their show contenders as well as sale horses. The event was called Arabian Sunset.

On Friday the halter classes continued. The morning was filled with the age categories that included Junior Junior Colt, Junior Filly, Young Colt and Filly. During the lunch break yet another special event was held for all the present. This time it was a presentation of former multi Brazilian National Champion Stallion Vivaldi al Shawan and some of his winning get. During the presentation it was announced that he is going to stand in the U.S next year and will go back to the ring under the guidance of Rodolfo Guzzo and Royal Arabians. Several breedings

were sold and then it was time for the evening classes and the much-awaited Young Mare and Young Stallion finals, with a very special tribute in between them.

An array of exceptional quality horses filled both the male and female categories and all of the age groups this year. The competition was heated from the get go and the judges definitely had a lot of work to do. At certain times

the classes were so strong that any horse showing in the ring could come out with the first prize.

Saturday morning brought the final championships with the winners from every age division during the day along with classes for Get of Sire, Produce of Dam as well as Most Classic Head for males and females. Saturday evening was the moment for the “gran finale” with the Senior Mare, Senior Stallion class and the special homage to heritage breeder Paulo Saliba.

In the Junior Junior Filly division the Gold went to the beautiful bay Aysha EV a daughter of the upcoming great sire Jyvar Meia Lua (a son of El Jahez) out of a Nuzyr HCF daughter. The Silver Championship went to the beautiful grey RD Nyanna, a full sister of the Scottsdale Champion HDF Fontonella being a daughter of Quasim CRH out of the HDF Lugano daughter HDF Baronesa. Almaah Serondella, by the imported WH Justice son *GT Shardh out of Ultraah Serondella, won the Bronze.

Lugano. The Silver Champion Domenico FWM paved the way for his brother and sisters who later won classes and championships on behalf of their sire Dominic M. His mother Nahla el Madan is by El Tino and also produced the twice-National Junior Champion Filly My Best Surprise FWM, by Bandit SRA. Evoke, a son of National Champion Stallion Vivaldi Al Shawan, took home the Bronze.

The Junior Filly Champion has created quite a fan base for her. Considered one of the all time favorites born at Haras Serondella, Acqua Serondella dazzled the audience with her beauty, graceful movement and structure. Her father Abbas al Ventur became the Silver National Champion Stallion of the show. Her mother Samoah Serondella, a Brazilian Top Ten mare, is a daughter of the iconic Only Serondella and HP Ali. The Silver Jr Filly Champion Himpehrya Terjoi JM is by the Argentinean Stallion HCE Terjoi, who spent two years on lease in Brazil, and out of Alyssa Crystal RLC by Vulcano HVP. The Bronze prize went to Haras das Faias and their homebred HDF Fantastica by the DA Valentino son of Bandit SRA out of Thora Serondella.

The Gold Junior Colt Champion Thovar HVP was bred by Haras Vila dos Pinheiros. He is by El Tino out of the Magnum Chall daughter Rebecca HVP. He repeated his win at the previous Interstate Show in March. Another son of Only Serondella, through her daughter Simply Serondella and by Santorini won the Silver title. His name was Amir Serondella and he is bred and owned by Haras Serondella. The very typey EFC Chaheer W (Vivaldi al Shawan out of Cherrie Yparadise JM) bred by Enrico Franchini Carlone and Dulce Rosas conquered the Bronze title.

A competition of beauties took the ring during the Young Filly Championship. The emerging victorious filly, though silver in color took home the Gold. FT Simphonia is third generation of Flavia Torres breeding, having National Champion Mare Sophia el Bogart as her paternal grandmother and FT Saeed as her father. Following her came the very feminine Karmela LA, a daughter of EKS Farouk and Gazala LA, bred and owned by Haras Cruzeiro. The black beauty Verdadeira Rach, from Rach Stud, who is by Bandit SRA out of the iconic black beauty Vaidosa Rach ended up with the Bronze.

The Young Colt division was won by the typey Keanu LA, bred and owned by Haras Cruzeiro. He is also by EKS Farouk and out of Brasilia LA. In 2022 he was named Brazilian National Champion Junior Colt. Destiny HEC , bred and owned by Haras HEC took the Silver this year. He is by Jytan Meia Lua out of Mars Princess HEC. Gazani JSZ by the illustrious Gazal al Shaqab and National Champion Sahara Gallina, bred and owned by Haras Santa Marta, was the winner of the Bronze.

The Filly Championship was arguably one of the strongest in a long time. not only the Championship itself but also the age groups. For us in the audience it was a parade of beauty before our eyes. Many previous champions showed up and gave their best, nevertheless it was a bay filly bred in Argentina and owned by Haras Lonco in Chile that stole everyone’s heart (including the judges who gave her the Gold unanimously). I’m talking about the breathtaking HT Lunatica, a statuesque daughter of Dominic M who was not known in Brazil until her entrance and took the show by storm. The Silver Champion is another great beauty that has won the Gold two years in a row before. My Best Surprise FWM is a daughter of Bandit SRA and Nahla el Madan, bred and owned by Haras Lone Star.

The Hariry al Shaqab daughter bred and owned by HVP Arabians (also a multi show winner), Monah HVP was the winner of the Bronze.

Dominic M out a daughter of National Champions HDF Lugano and HK La Fiesta Power. Cesar Schmidt of Haras Katu and Humberto Florezi of Haras Al Hosçan bred this ultra refined chestnut colt that has been syndicated by an impressive group of breeders who hopefully will support him into flying to even higher skies. The Silver Colt Champion Maximillion NA was imported by Thiago Pontes of TP Arabians from North Arabians. He is a beautiful bay son of Dominic M out of Makala NA, a daughter of Ever After NA. The Bronze Champion was Kamal Ali HEC, a previous Gold Junior Junior Champion Colt at Nationals he is by HP Ali and is bred and owned by Haras Estância California.

On both the mare championships, Young and Senior, most of the contenders were very accomplished show winners thus making the competition very deep.

The Gold Young Mare Champion went to the beautiful dark bay Emerald J daughter EFC Pillar, bred by Enrico Franchini Carlone and owned by Royal Arabians Brazil by the time of her win. Ultraah Serondella, another bay beauty bred and owned by Haras Serondella, followed her taking the Silver. She repeated her win from last year. Rhona Vul do Divino, a many times champion daughter of Vulcano HVP and Rhona Rach, bred by Ricardo Mesquita and owned by TP Arabians was the winner of the Bronze.

The bays continued to dominate the Young Stallion Championships. The Gold Championship went to Opus One Arabco II, a bay son of El Tino and Bretta UB who in turn is a daughter of U.S National Champion OFW Magic Wan and world aristocrat HB Bessolea. The Silver Champion was also a previous National winner. Royal Destiny is bred and owned by Royal Arabians and is by Dominic M and the Brazilian National Reserve Champion Mare RFI Sensation. The Bronze Champion was a previous Gold National Champion Colt. Gael W is by National Champion Stallion Vivaldi al Shawan and NV Georgia.

The Senior Mare Championship brought some strong show-winning veterans back to the ring. After a strong competition the refined grey RFI Sawari, a daughter of Excalibur EA and RFI Sophie Al Maktub, emerged victorious. Following her was the beautiful bay

Felma LA, a daughter of Mashoor Al Mohamadia and Bela LA, bred by Haras Cruzeiro and owned jointy by Haras Cruzeiro and Haras PIN. The Bronze Champion title went to the ethereal Special Dream HVP, a daughter of the Versace son Thee Apprentice out of the FA El Shawan daughter Tawani HVP, bred by Haras HVP and owned by Haras Cruzeiro.

In the Senior Stallion Finals a true battle royale took place between two impressive chestnut stallions. Imported from Italy the beautiful Ajmer Moniscione ended up taking

the Gold. He is a very refined son of AJ Mardan bred by Azienda Agricola Giancarlo Buzzi and imported by Haras 7 Flechas. Abbas Al Ventur, a son of Halyr Meia Lua and Emozione al Ventur and therefore a maternal grandson of the iconic Honey’s Delight RB, claimed the Silver spot. He was bred by Haras Al Ventur and is owned jointly by Haras Al Ventur and Haras Serondella. He sired the beautiful Acqua Serondella, earlier named National Junior Filly Champion. The Bronze Champion LR Pipistar was a grey son of Dominic M, bred and owned by Estancia las Rosas and imported from Uruguai.

Some additonal classes were also held at the last day of the show. Winning the Most Classic Head Males was Ragnary GV, bred by Haras Gran Via and owned by Viana Arabian Horse and the best head female going to Hanna LGM bred and owned by Luiz Gonzaga Malpici. The winner of the Get of Sire class was Cash del Tino JM and the Produce of Dam winner was Stig Justhine, both owned by Haras JM. Haras JM also bred and owns the Liberty Class Champion El Kaiser Ali JM.

Once again the Brazilian National Show was a big success, a true testimony to the hard work done by the entire ABCCA ensemble. We look forward to next year’s edition and will cherish the memories of the magic days spent last July at the Helvetia Riding Center. May next year be as wonderful as this one. Though it will be a tough task to accomplish. See you all in July 2024 for yet a new edition of our beloved Brazilian National Show.

The Best Breeder and also Best Exhibitor of the show this year is about to be considered what the French call “Hors Concours” for it is the third time in a row that the Amorosino family achieves both of these wins, after three years without competing.

This year the show string brought many newcomers. As Fabio Amorosino states “except for two, all the horses we brought in this year were coming to the National Show for the first time, which reflects that our breeding program is going in the right direction. One of those who came back was Ultraah Serondella (Quasim CRH x Aria Shanteuse) to repeat her title of Brazilian National Champion Silver in the Young Mare class. The other one, Unno Serondella, was named Top Ten in the Young Stallion division.

Regarding the new Serondella winners, one holds a special place in Fabio’s heart: the National Junior Champion Filly Acqua Serondella (Abbas al Ventur x Samoah Serondella). In his opinion she represents the future of Haras Serondella since not only she has a lot of type with a beautiful face and long neck, but she can also move,

carry her tail high and has incredible body and legs. Alongside with her Haras Serondella secured a Bronze in Junior Junior Fillies Almaah Serondella, a Gold in Junior Junior Colts with Azzam Serondella, a Silver in Junior Colts with Amir Serondella.

Many times when we go to a horse show, we tend to expect that everything should run smoothly almost like by magic. Wrong assumption! If all goes well it means that someone or a group of people is silently working hard in order to make sure that the rest of us can have the best possible experience with as less stress as possible.

In that department we Brazilians have been somewhat spoiled for more than thirty years for in 1989 we were blessed with the entrance of Claudio Santos in the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association. It was during the term of President Luciano Chuahy and since then Claudio has been in charge of all the shows that encompass the ABCCA show circuit.

From north to south of Brazil wherever there is an Arabian Horse Show there is also Claudio with a smile on his face. It doesn’t matter if it is a small local show or the Brazilian

Nationals itself. He will be there to help and support! And you can rest assured that under his guidance everything will be all right.

His work ethic had led him to become the show manager for ABCCA so this long overdue tribute (that caught him totally by surprise!) symbolizes in a perfect way the deep gratitude that all of us members of ABCCA feel by having Claudio on our team. He deserves all of our praises and recognition even though he never claimed any attention to himself.

Tribute to Claudio Santos

lifetime achievement award Carlos and Marisa Forte

Friday evening brought a special homage prepared by the Board of Directors of ABCCA to Carlos and Marisa Forte of RFI Arabians, the parents of the President of the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association Rodrigo Forte. Carlos, Marisa and Rodrigo, as most of us know, are the breeders of the worldwide famous RFI Maktub and his son RFI Farid.

What some may not know is that RFI Arabians has the distinction of winning the coveted Brazilian Breeders Cup four times, a feat that is yet to be surpassed by any breeder in Brazil. They are also the breeders of this year’s Senior Champion Mare RFI Sawari as well as her mother, the iconic RFI Sophie al Maktub, who happens do be the maternal grandmother of the reigning Brazilian National Silver Champion Royal Destiny (by Dominic M).

In the words of Rodrigo Forte himself:

“Also due to my last year as President of the ABCCA I had one single request to my Board in exchange of my four years of work and that was to be able to honor my parents Marisa and Carlos for their continued support through our 32 years of breeding Arabians, for all they taught me and for allowing me to fulfill my dream of breeding Arabian Horses. Without them none of that would be possible. When we started our breeding Arabian horses my sister and me were just children. After so many years we have a new generation with my children Marina and Felipe now, all united around the horses,

proving the importance of family in perpetuating a breeding program. At the same time I can say that the passion for the Arabian horse always united us and we are very thankful for all that we had. The best part of this tribute was how surprised they were. They really didn’t know or expected it! It was very emotional! .“

On a personal note I can only imagine how much happiness this homage done by the ABCCA has given to the Forte family. Within our community we witness so many times the strengthening of the bond formed by father and son/ daughter by sharing their passion for the Arabian Horse and participating in its universe. That was my case. The Arabian horse brought my father and I closer together and became a source of happiness for both of us since the beginning. But there are so many more examples out there, like Dr. Jairo Queiroz Jorge and his son Iran, Fabio Amorosino and his three sons Felipe, Fernando and Pedro, Antonio Jacovas and his daughter Raquel, Florivaldo and Marcelo Carvalho, João and Renato and Raquel Sorvilo, Marcos and Eduardo Quintella, Fernando and Joaquin de Santibañes and this list goes on and on…

I guess that, to a certain degree, we can all relate to the power in concept of family, rely on it and be thankful for it. For, I think, the Arabian Horse Community in Brazil has become an elected family for many of us.

Tribute to Paulo Saliba

This year the Brazilian and the World community of the Arabian Horse mourn the loss of Paulo Saliba. For a few moments the entire show was able to witness a beautiful movie prepared by his brother Ricardo Saliba about his brother’s beautiful journey for almost forty years in the Arabian Horse industry.

Paulo and his brother Ricardo started their breeding program around 1986 after travelling to Ventura Farms in Thousand Oaks, California, where they met their longtime friend Johnny Downing, the farm manager at the time, who was the special guest for the tribute who touched and flattered all of the spectators by reading his lovely message in Portuguese, our native language.

For many years the Salibas’ breeding program, Haras Ilha da Chapada was the reference for horses of Polish bloodlines in Brazil. They have imported several amazing mares and stallions since the foundation of the farm, including sons and daughters by Bask, Bandos, Aladdin, El Paso, Nabor, Deficyt, Eukaliptus and many others.

Their debut at Nationals was in 1987 and they won several of the major titles including Junior Champion Filly, Foal at Side and Champion Filly among many others.

Four of their imported stallions (Polonez, Almir, Sarmata and Eksport) and two mares (Aluia and Passion LTD, both purchased at Ventura Farms) throughout the years have become Brazilian National Champions. A vast number of their homebreds have also become National Champions, including their latest famous mares Preferida Rach and Vaidosa Rach.

The suffix RACH is in homage to their grandfather Rachid, who was also an Arabian horse admirer and taught them the love for these horses.

The RACH horses became a synonymous of versatility, excelling at the highest level in many different disciplines, including halter, endurance and racing, the last being a great passion of Paulo Saliba who undertook an incredible work to develop the Arabian Horse races in Brazil.

Ricardo Saliba graced us with some words about this beautiful tribute:

“We would like to thank ABCCA, Directors and Breeders for connecting the name of our lovely brother to probably one of the best Brazilian Nationals ever. Also, it is the first time that a National was dedicated to one person. We should have done this before with other great breeders who had passed away, but Paulo received the honor of being the first one.

The tribute was wonderful, and we would like to thank Johnny Downing for coming from USA to say those beautiful words about Paulo.

It was very hard for me to try to summarize his story in the world of Arabian Horse in only 20 minutes. I think that he left us in an early form but during this searching for pictures, looking through videos and his realizations in the Arabian industry, it looks like he lived for a century and I believe that he will live forever as a legend in the Arabian Horse history.”

THE BRAZIL CUP

Traditionally the Brazil Cup opens the show preceded by the most part of the Performance classes. This year was no different. This is a special circuit that has been designed in order to allow smaller breeders, who usually would not be able to bring a horse to compete at the open show, to participate and be included in the event. Here they can compete in equal terms with the bigger breeding farms that in turn have a chance to test part of their show string in a different circuit. Most importantly, only amateur handlers can present the horses.

A good example is the Gold Junior Filly Champion Saryanna HVP (AJ Radman x *Royal Sariyana) bred by Haras Vila dos Pinheiros, who was recently bought at auction by a newcomer to the Arabian horse scene, Marcos Andre Moscon. Following her with the Silver title was Festeira Rach (Perlan Rach x Festyvah HVP) bred and owned by Haras Ilha da Chapada and Hylihandra Sirajj JM (*Sirajj UB x Ylihandra Pscore JM), bred and owned by Haras JM taking the Bronze.

Since its inception the quality of the animals has been increasing significantly and several of the horses shown here at the Brazil Cup can also be competitive at the open show. Some of them have actually done the circuit transition and placed well on both the Cup and the Nationals.

With the end of the COVID pandemic the Brazilian show circuit has been gradually going back to normal, that is to say that more and more shows are being held again. That allows more horses to compete and more breeders and exhibitors to participate. This year 13 of them came to the competition, after three previous qualifying shows.

In the Junior Colt division the Gold went to Sir Lucius FWM (Wandan el Madan x Lady Alice FWM) bred and owned by Haras Lone Star. The Silver Champion Hexxalt di Terjoi JM, bred and owned by Haras JM, is by the Argentinean sire HCE Terjoy who was on lease in Brazil for only two years and out of the great Stig Justhine, one of the farm’s most important mares. Haras JM also won the Bronze with Hyann di Vaalente JM (*Vaalente x Tzarinna D’Pscore JM).

Pimpinella Rach) is a three quarter sister to Persephone Rach, the mother of the Saliba’s popular National Champion Preferida Rach (by Bandit SRA). In terms of pedigree the Silver Champion Robin STC has what some might call a dream pedigree. Bred by Haras Aratinga and owned by Schoukens Training Center she is by Talaal Serondella, a grandson of the world aristocrat Elle Dorada and out of Liz Carol, a granddaughter of World Champion Mare Robin K from whom she was probably named after. The Bronze Champion Filly was Ilaya FHM by the WH Justice son Psyjay and out of the El Jahez daughter Nilaya Meia Lua, bred and owned by Evelyn Schweizer of Haras Marimbondo.

The Colt Championship was won back to back by Haras JM that bred and owns the Gold Champion Garddian del Tino JM (*El Tino x Xaklinna d´Pscore JM), the Silver Champion Fattaly d’Ali JM (HP Ali x *Psynfull IA) and the Bronze Champion Ghartenn Arwan JM (Arwan Meia Lua x Balarinna di Keav JM).

Interestingly the three top three winning mares of the Brazilian Cup are from the Mirage Sire Line through the Versace branch. The Gold Champion Mare VV Yasmin is by *Preludio OSB hence a granddaughter of the Versace son Da Vinci FM. Her mother Karenina el Madan by *El Tino is a multi champion mare herself. Yasmin is bred and owned by Viana Arabian Horse. The Silver Champion Mare was the beautiful dark bay Nigraa REC, a daughter of the Brazilian National Champion Stallion Bandit SRA who in

And finally the Bronze Champion Mare Ezzoticka JM is by the Versace son *Thee Aprentice and out of Ydivine di Fames JM who in turn is out of Divine NVC a mare that the represents one of the most successful mare families of Haras JM, who bred and owns Ezzoticka, being also the mother of the Brazilian National Champion Mare Pietra di Style JM.

The Mirage sire line once again prevailed in the Stallion Championship with two grandsons of RFI Maktub and one of DA Valentino in the ribbons. The winner of the Gold Championship was Fuego Royal JM (Royal Treasure JQ x Shea di Pscore JM) bred by

Haras JM and owned by Haras el Sevillano. The Silver spot went to Jafar FWM (Prince Valentino FWM x Victoria FWM) bred and owned by Haras Lone Star. The Bronze winner title went to RFI Antares (RFI Farouk al Maktub x AF Leneta) bred by RFI Arabians and owned by Haras Marbelle.

PERFORMANCE CLASSES

Opening the show on Wednesday morning, the Performance classes this year presented horses in four disciplines. Besides the traditional Western Pleasure, English Pleasure and Native Costume, the Hunter Pleasure class has been growing and assuring its place as a very sought after class in Brazil, as it has happened in the U.S.A for a long time.

The English classes were divided into: Amateur, Maiden Horses, Exhibitor, Young Horses and Open Classes. In an amazing display of quality and as proof that almost 40 years of careful selection pays off, the horses bred by Rach Stud won all of the English Classes. Rhondo Rach took the

Maiden class; Jemma Rach won the Young Horse class; Timon Rach prevailed on both the Exhibitor and the Amateur classes and Prometeu Rach won the Open English. Rach Stud is a reference in Brazil for promoting all ridden disciplines including racing, endurance and performance in a quest to show the versatility of the Arabian horse. And versatility was proven when Prometeu Rach won the Open Native Costume class after winning the Open English too.

The traditional Western Pleasure classes are usually the most popular of all the performance classes in Brazil. This year they were divided in: Maiden, Young Horses, Senior Horses, Exhibitor class and Open class.

FARM TOURS AND AUCTIONS

On the following Monday after the show was over, the first day of the called Brazilian Farm Tours was held at the beautiful Haras Vila dos Pinheiros, which once again opened their amazing farm to the guests greeting them with an amazing lunch while gathering a truly unprecedented group of mares at auction in the afternoon. Among these outstanding lots were Scottsdale and U.S. National Champion Mare Dulcinea BHF, Breta UB (dam of the just crowned Brazilian National Gold Champion Opus One Arabco II and Brazilian Gold Champion Filly Lady Dominica JSZ), daughters of the iconic RD Fabreanna, FA El Shawan, WH Justice, Da Vinci FM, Ajman Moniscione among others.

On Tuesday another impressive auction took place. Haras Cruzeiro brought the best from their production and graced the public with daughters of their National Champion Stallions HDB Sihr Ibn Massai and EKS Farouk as well as a variety of proven mares breeding and show mares by other greats such as Mashoor al Mohamadia, RFI Maktub and WH Justice who was represented by one of his most beautiful daughters in the world, GHS Marys Rose.

Both venues were an incredible success in terms of prices and also in numbers of international buyers.
