Sharjah is the one of seven Emirates and shares it’s border with Dubai. Sharjah is a prosperous and modern state that retains the traditions of its Islamic culture and is commonly considered the Cultural Capital of the United Arabian Emirates. It is also important to mention that the city of Sharjah is the city of learning and the arts, as confirmed by its 1998 UNESCO designation as the Cultural Capital of the Arab World. The city of Sharjah is home to many museums with splendid collections of artifacts and art as well as exhibits on science and natural history. Sharjah also host many cultural festivals, educational conferences, fairs and economic expositions. So it is obvious that Sharjah is a perfect place to hold a such special Festival as International Arabian Horse Festival Straight Egyptian, which took place on the 24 – 25th of October at the Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club. The Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club is unique in Emirates, as it is the first equestrian club in the UAE and was established in 1982 at the initiation of H.H. Shk. Dr. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED AL QASSIMI, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. One of the main goals of establishing the Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club is to showcase the highborn and elevated progeny of Arabian horses and to encourage the breeding of this noble horse to increase its pedigree. The festival lasted two days during which horses of very high quality were showed to the gathered audience and a total of 95 horses were entered. We could admire the beauty of the straight egyptian horses in the SERC indoor arena in the amazing setting made of fresh flowers. Traditionally the Festival was very well organised and and great atmosphere was felt thanks to the hospitality of the organisers. All classes were very well represented and the handlers did their best to show the unique beauty and special qualities of Straight Egiptian Arabian Horses Horses that entered the show ring. The show was judged by the panel of judges: Mr. Ahmed Adel Abdulrazik (Egypt), Mrs. Ann Norden (Sweden), Richard Pihlstrom (France) and Mr. Francesco Santoro (Italy). The horses competed in the classes of Junior Females (1-3 years old), Senior Females (4 years and older), Junior Males (1-3 years old) and Senior Males (4 years and older) – each class enjoyed great popularity during entry time so each of them were divided into two sections. The second day of the Festival was also the day of the Championships, where the most beautiful of the horses participating in the event, competed for the gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the Fillies Championship the gold medal went to D Ameereyyah (by Asfoor Al Waab – Royal Emira) bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, silver medal to D Kahayel (by Royal Colours – D Afaf ) also bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and bronze medal to Oumnia Al Haitham (by Egaab Al Rayyan – SG Rowadah) bred and owned by Haitham Mohammed Saeed Alkindi. In the Mares Championship the gold medal went to D Afaf (by Frasera Mashar – Esa Arieanna Express) bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, silver medal to Kahielat Khalid (by Al Adeed Al Shaqab – Deserree) bred by Alqassemi Stables and owned by H.H. Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassemi, and bronze medal to Hasina Al Zobair (by Al Aaqib Al Zamet – Mmecca) bred by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Ali Althani and owned by Arkan Malik Hammood Al Kubaisi. the gold medal went to D Ameereyyah (by Asfoor Al Waab – Royal Emira) bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, silver medal to D Kahayel (by Royal Colours – D Afaf ) also bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and bronze medal to Oumnia Al Haitham (by Egaab Al Rayyan – SG Rowadah) bred and owned by Haitham Mohammed Saeed Alkindi. In the Colts Championship the gold medal went to D Sukkar (by Asfoor Al Waab – D Afaf ) bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, silver medal to Riean al Remas (by Egaab Al Rayyan – Hasina Al Zobair) bred and owned by Arkan Malik Hammood Al Kubaisi and bronze medal to Babel Al Zobair (by Eqaab Al Rayyan – Bint Al Mamunah Al Zobair) bred and owned by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Ali Al Thani. In the Stallions Championship the gold medal went to Nasser Fana (by Al Adeed Al Shaqab – SL Pharidah) bred by Purosangue Arabo and owned by Jasim Mohamed Abdallah Alshaer Alnaqbi, silver medal to D Haydar (by Royal Colours – Hearts Embrace) bred and owned by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and bronze medal to Nahman Al Bustan (by Royal Colours – Maram Al Bustan) bred by Al Bustan Stables and owned by Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed Rashed Al Shehhi. After the show days, the Festival was brought to a close by the Auction held on 26th of October and was attended by a large number of participants. The auction was as always perfectly organised during which 99 horses were offered. It’s important to mention that during the auction almost every horse presented at the auction found a new owner. ■

On 14-16 of November 2019, we had a pleasure to attend to a very special show that took place in emirate of Sharjah in United Arab Emirates. It was the first Arabian Horse Festival held in Kalba. Kalba is an exclave of the emirate of Sharjah lying on the Gulf of Oman coast, north of Oman and south of the emirate of Fujairah. It is famous for its creek (Khor Kalba), a pastiche of mangroves, tidal creeks and sandy beaches that are a birders paradise. Khor Kalba (Kalba Creek) is also an important nature reserve. The Show was professionally organized by the Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club and lasted three days during which the audience could admire Arabian horses of great quality competing each other, presenting their unique and special qualities and finally presenting themselves in the championships to win the gold, silver and bronze medals. The Festival enjoyed great popularity as a total of 235 horses were entered the show and the show was judged by the panel of judges: Mr. Josy Everars (Belgium), Ms. Michaela Weidner (Germany), Ms. Pilar Cavero Pino (Spain), Mr. Cristian Moschini (Italy) and Ms. Anna Stefaniuk (Poland). As the show ground was located in the picturesque Kalba Corniche Park, directly on the beach and next to the sea - the beauty of Arabian horses, hospitality of the organizers, the perfect weather and unique location of the Festival made it also a very enjoyable one.. â–

Sharjah Equestrian Equestrian and Racing Club hosted its second show of the season in its lovely outdoor arena, where the atmosphere is quite different to those held inside, people move about more, it feels more sociable and intimate, whilst the party feeling was enhanced by a constant supply of delicious canapes and liquid refreshments. The Higher Organising Committee Chairman is Sheikh Abdullah Bin Majid Al Qassimi, a very successful breeder of both show and racehorses. The E.S. prefix for his Emirates Stud is familiar to many, so with first-hand experience, it is not surprising he has his finger well on the pulse. In this he is ably assisted by Mr Sultan Khalifa Al Yahyaie, Show Director and Director General of SERC who has organised a great variety of successful events over the years. With 278 entries and a healthy prize money fund of AEDH1,185000 (290,117euros) there was a very high turnout, and it was easy to see not only how popular but also how essential such shows are for exclusively local bred horses in the UAE’s highly competitive situation. In addition the many scores of 90 or more points illustrate the high quality of horses now being bred in UAE. The judging panel was Ms Claudia Darius (Germany), Mr Fausto Scanzi (Italy), Xavier Guibert (France), Dr Mohammed Machmoum (Morocco) and Mr Nashaat Hegazy (Egypt) they had a challenging time assessing the classes where one judge sat out for each class. The judges greatly appreciated that all their scores counted not as in some shows where the high and the low mark are deducted. It was very interesting to see that the offspring of certain young locally bred stallions are having an influence on local bred breeding. Dubai stud had three young stallions with winning offspring D. Seraj, D Khattaf and D Mshary, whilst AJ Marzan not only had winning offspring but was present himself and topped that success by winning his stallion class then
taking the Gold Champion Stallion title. He is by AJ Portofino who also sired the Gold Champion mare AJ Reeda, we recognise and salute the Ajman breeding programme which has been hugely influential in UAE. Meanwhile, Emirates Stud horses took the silver awards in those same championships with the stallion E.S. Prince by E.S. Sarab and the mare E.S. Sheikha by SMA Magic One. SMA Magic One stood in the UAE several years ago and left a number of top quality offspring. The other championships were dominated by a double gold in the Yearlings for the Filly Shumoos Al Hawajer and the Colt Ghaly Al Hawajer both by Dominic M. Whilst Dubai stud took Gold Junior Colt with D Mashji by Shanghai EA and SMA Magice One added to his golden offspring with Nouwaydra Al Zobair who took the Junior Filly Gold. It should be added that to make the Championships as competitive as possible the first three from each section returned to the ring, this meant that there were as many as twelve youngsters contesting each championship and none of the championships were unanimous. Interestingly whilst all the medal winners in the female sections came from the class winners, the bronze yearling colt and bronze junior colt came from the third placed horses! This perhaps illustrates how the final choice can be a matter of taste and how fallible the points system can be, as we revert to the comparative system in the championships. With the last awards presented everyone headed homewards conscious that in only five days we would all be together again for the Fujairah Arabian Horse Show. The UAE season is fast and furious, meaning hard work for all those involved from organisers to stable staff. We greatly appreciate all the effort and hospitality we receive and send our thanks for the welcome TuttoArabi receives. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon. â–

It is always a great pleasure to come back to Sharjah, a place well known as the Cultural Capital of the United Arabian Emirates and Cultural Capital the Arab World where the tradition blends very well with modernity. It is a unique place for a unique Arabian Horse Festival that took place on 5-7 of march 2020 – it was the 21st edition of the Sharjah International Arabian Horse Festival traditionaly held on the premises of Sharjah Equestrian & Racing Club, the first equestrian club in the UAE, established in 1982 at the initiation of H.H. Shk. Dr. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED AL QASSIMI, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The 21st Sharjah International Arabian Horse Festival lasted three days and was indeed a continuation of the success of previous festivals. As always the organisers did their best to ensure that everyone felt welcome and that everything was prefectly prepared and going well. The weather was also very welcoming and the atmosphere of the show was very enjoyable. The show gathered many arabian horses of very high quality and great pedigree. Show Director Mr Sultan Khalifa Al Yahyaie who has run this Festival since the beginning and his experienced team made sure everything ran like clockwork. The Show took place in the exceptional indoor arena which was very well prepared to handle the large amount of horses that entered the show ground and also was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers. The show was judged by the international panel of judges: Mr. Nikolaus Jung (Germany), Mrs. Marianne
Throughout the first two days the horses competed with each other with constant cheering of the audience but the third day of the festival was most emotional, accompanied with cheering and applause from the gathered audience as the stallions entered the arena and also the Championship took place. Also the Championship was succesful for Dubai Arabian Horse Stud (2 golden medals and 3 silver medals), Ajman Stud (1 golden medal and 3 bronze medals), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saoud Al Qassemi (2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals), Sheikh Abdullah Bin Majid Al Qassemi (bronze medal), Qusai Mohammed Saeed Ali Obaidalla (gold medal), Khaled Ghanem Mubarak Alomari (gold medal), Abdulwahab Saeed Alsayed (gold medal). Also it is always good to mention the horse with the highest score in the show and the highest score among other beautiful horses – it was Mahder Al Jamal owned by Al Shiraa Stables with the total score of 92,83 points (including two times 20 points for Type and four times 20 points for Head and Neck). As the city of Sharjah is also known as centere of culture, learning and arts, the final day of the Festival was also accopanied by the Charity Auction where the equestrian works of art were auctioned in aid of the charity. It was a pleasure to attend and see the 21st Sharjah International Arabian Horse Festival, as it was a wonderful event and worth remembering. ■
