The 2023 Arabian Horse Breeders’ World Cup and participants thank His Royal Highness, Mohammed VI, King of Morocco and his Royal Stables, Haras de Bouznika, for his gracious and generous patronage of this world class event.

TRAILBLAZING EVENT TRANSFORMS

ARABIAN BREEDERS

Almost two decades ago, the ambitions of several established and aspiring breeders in North America coalesced into an innovative and transformative idea –to create an international-style show in a high-profile American city, modelled after universally respected events such as the All Nations Cup in Aachen, the World Championships in Paris and the Dubai International Championship in the UAE. The primary aims of the event, sponsored and hosted by the newly formed Arabian Horse Breeders Alliance (AHBA) were to: 1) bring the energy and excitement of an international halter competition to North America; 2) evaluate breeding and halter exhibits more objectively according to the global breed ideal with a universally recognized and respected scoring system; 3) celebrate breeders and promote the breeding of Arabian horses; 4) attract international visitors to sponsor, support and attend by hosting the event in a highly appealing location; 5) create a greater sense of collaboration and camaraderie amongst the global community by bringing horse persons from all over the world together; and 6) expose the Arabian horse to a larger audience of those who are unfamiliar with the breed with the hopes of growing the base of Arabian horse owners, breeders and enthusiasts.

With these noble aims as the guiding light, the Arabian Breeders World Cup (ABWC) was born, launching in April 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada – ‘the Entertainment Capital of the World’ – and hosted at the city’s brand new purpose-built equine facility at South Point Casino, conveniently situated just south of the Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard. In just a few short years, the World Cup met and exceeded all its lofty goals, attracting entries, professionals and spectators from every inhabited continent, establishing itself as a ‘must attend’ event on the annual international calendar. Not only did the World Cup earn elite show status ranking as one of the most prestigious titles to earn in the breed, the show became the inspiration for a whole series of international-style shows in North America, transforming even the industry’s granddaddy of all horse shows – the Scottsdale All-Arabian –with the addition of an international halter division, a four day celebration of the best of the breed that continues to grow in both numbers and significance.

Rather quickly, the Arabian Breeders World Cup became known amongst industry insiders as the Las

Vegas World Cup, or even more affectionately simply as the ‘Vegas Show’, forever linking the event with its host city. By year four, the World Cup evolved into its most inspired iteration, introducing Yearling Championships, an industry first outside of Australia that has since transformed competition the world over, as well as Gold, Silver & Bronze Supreme Championships for all breeding and Amateur to Handle (ATH) divisions, adopted immediately in response to the sagacious introduction of these Olympic medal placings in Menton and at the World Championships the year prior. For the next decade, the World Cup continued to lead by example, attracting international horses, sponsors and spectators from the most respected programmes consistently and confidently, content in its universal admiration and respect.

No one expected the 2019 event, rather prophetically the thirteenth iteration of the show, to be the final exhibition in Las Vegas to date. Disrupted by the global covid-19 pandemic, which shut down the global economy and nearly all air travel in March of 2020, the show was cancelled with the hopes of returning to Las Vegas in 2021. Lingering restrictions, however, made the return to South Point impossible in 2021, so a determined AHBA Board made the lifesaving decision to host the event in Scottsdale as a stop gap measure. Quickly organized by Taryl O’Shea and her talented show committee, the Scottsdale version of the World Cup proved to be a triumphant success, smaller in overall size and scope but still rich with quality horses, a celebratory atmosphere and an unshakable sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm. Hosted outdoors, on the spacious polo fields of Westworld, surrounded by crisp white marquees to shelter VIP guests and show officials, and set against the magnificent Sonoran backdrop of the McDowell Mountain Range, the setting evoked a distinctly European festive flair, showcasing the Arabian breed at its best under the reliable Scottsdale sunshine. Having committed to a three-year contract with Westworld to make the 2021 event a reality, the Vegas Show in Scottsdale, now permanently ‘rebranded’ as the Arabian Breeders World Cup it had always been envisioned to be, is in the midst of its next natural evolution, with the future of the ground-breaking and trend-setting event carefully guided towards continued relevance and enduring impact by the insightful and ambitious AHBA Board of Directors.

Created to be a premier showcase of the best breeding stock in the breed worldwide, the World Cup schedule has also always given ample time and opportunity to amateur handlers and owners, with the understanding the inclusion of amateurs amongst the elite horses and professionals would not only create a greater sense of community at all levels of involvement, but also raise the standard of presentation and horsemanship at this foundation point of entry within the industry. As such, the entire first day of World Cup competition is devoted exclusively to ATH entries, for fillies, mares, colts, stallions and geldings, as well as those nominated young stock aged two and under eligible to win significant prize money in the AHBA Auction and Legacy Futurity programmes. To incentivise participation, Supreme Championship qualifiers compete for some of the most impressive silver cups both in size and quality awarded annually, as well as Gold, Silver & Bronze honours and the corresponding high profile rose garlands beautifully designed and crafted by Sonya Bickford.

Always the largest division at the World Cup since the very first show in 2007, the yearlings, both fillies and colts, once again were remarkable in depth of quality, diversity and professional exhibition. As has become tradition at the annual Scottsdale Show, the yearling classes at the World Cup correspondingly showcase the most important, most innovative and most impactful breeding trends, shining the spotlight on those sires that have been used most insightfully in the most recent seasons and whose influence within the breed is on the rise. Paving the way as the leading sires of 2023 amongst the Top Ten Yearling Fillies & Colts were the popular and prepotent ROYAL ASAD, EXXALT, PRELUDIO OSB, RAZEER SERONDELLA, D SHAKHAT, ARIA RAKEEM, JR FRANCOIS and SULTAN GK, with a quartet of super sires finishing atop the field. Pat McGinnis’ TAJ RAHEEM (FA El Rasheem x RA Marwans Elygance by Marwan Al Shaqab) once again proved himself a sire of importance in the colt division with the sensational STA HIGH VOLTAJ (out of Rose CME by Lark RCA), an exceptionally complete iridescent chestnut that was named Supreme Gold Champion Yearling Colt by unanimous consent as well as High Score Body & Topline. The closely related undefeated show phenom RHAN AL SHAHANIA (Marwan Al Shaqab x Jwaaher

Al Shahania by FA El Rasheem) had several exceptional progeny in contention, with Rae-Dawn’s eye catching dark bay RD RHAVIER (out of Giana Leah PCF by Polidoro FC) finishing strongly as Supreme Bronze Champion Yearling Colt and, most impressively, winning the silver cup for High Score Movement. Another sire with a multitude of exotic get was last year’s

unanimous Supreme Gold Champion Senior Stallion

AJ RADMAN (AJ Mardan x AJ Marhifa by Ajman Moniscione), whose ultra-exotic daughter SHADEN YASER (out of Yara Yaser by Wadee Al Shaqab) was well-received as Supreme Silver Champion Yearling Filly and recipient of the special award for High Score Head of the entire show. But the sire who emerged triumphant with three winners – one Supreme Gold, Silver & Bronze Champion each – was unsurprisingly DOMINIC M (Da Vinci FM x Rosa La Valentina by DA Valentino). The Orrion Farms chief sire has been the most utilized stallion in the country for the past two seasons, and counting, and the extraordinary quality of his best get – which include Supreme Gold Champion Yearling Filly FELIX AJMAL MALAK (out of Felix Ajmal Mora by RFI Farid), Supreme Silver Champion Yearling Colt OFW LEGEND (out of Lulu Marajj by Marajj) and Supreme Bronze Champion Yearling Filly VISION OF LOVE ENB (out of Symphony of Love by El Nabila B – are a resounding testament to his siring prowess and importance in the breed.

WORLD CLASS JUDGES

The distinguished panel of international judges for 2023 included four experts from overseas – Marek Trela (Poland & Jordan), Claudia Darius (Germany), Santiago Fornieles (Argentina) and Kathleen Ohlsson (Sweden) – balanced perfectly with three well respected AHA judges – Cindy Reich (Colorado), Leslie Connor (Missouri) and Mike Wilson (Florida). A group of five were randomly selected to judge each of the qualifying classes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, rotating through while utilizing the World Cup Scoring System to assess entries against the breed standard to superlative effect. By the time all seven judges were invited to comparatively determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze honorees in Sunday’s Supreme Championships, it was readily apparent that the very best horses had returned to vie for top honours, with the crème de la crème sorted to the top with resounding affirmation from breeders, owners, handlers and spectators alike.

WORLD CUP COMPETITION

Royal Arabians prevailed with Gold in both ATH Supreme Championships, with the husband-and-wife pair of Danny and Amanda Pagan each leading the judge’s choice to winner’s circle. Danny’s gorgeous Gold Champion Mare ATH was GIOVANA AL (Halyr Meia Lua x CER Belissima by FA El Shawan), an utterly enchanting snow-white matron that stood head and shoulders above the competition amongst the mares and fillies. Amanda showcased her considerable skills as a handler with the immensely appealing two year old colt ROYAL RAJAAH (Soul of Marwan AS x Rhadashah Arabco by El Tino),

who was sashed Gold Champion Colt/Stallion/Gelding ATH just ahead of Amanda’s eleven year old son, Micah Fraser, who did a masterful job showing the beautifully athletic PS MYSTIC MIRAGE (Mirage V x Mata Hara by Humkam Maj) to Silver Champion, adding further prestige to an impressive show record which includes the Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse Championship at the Scottsdale show just two months prior. Stella Bella’s imperially bred EXXSTATIC SBA (Exxalt x Goddess of Da Vinci by Da Vinci FM) earned the Bronze Championship title amongst the male entries with Austin Garrett

doing the honours, while Jordan Simons, led Manny Vierra’s superbly built HERCHANTS VO (Hercules EA x Enchant VO by Emigrant) to Silver Champion amongst the females. Amanda Pagan earned the only dual medal recognition in the final line-ups, finishing Bronze Champion with the ultra-feminine ROYAL NAJWA AS (Royal Asad x Kashilia AS by Kahil Al Shaqab). This was a fitting finish for Amanda, most deservedly named Amateur Handler of Excellence collectively by the judges, an award generously sponsored by Graham Smith of Australia since first introduced the to show five years ago.

The Junior division was replete with several high-profile champions and internationally bred entries that continued to bolster the world-class reputation of the World Cup. Chief among these was Supreme Gold Champion Junior Filly OFW LUXXURY (by Exxalt), the reigning Scottsdale International Gold Champion and inaugural US National Breeding Pays Futurity Gold Champion Two Year Old Filly, who upgraded her title from the ABWC Silver Championship in 2022 and was also the second major medal winner for her illustrious dam LULU MARAJJ (out of Silhouette FF by Shael Dream Desert) on Championship Sunday. Earning this year’s Supreme Silver Championship in her show ring debut was Diane Brown’s seductive siren ANTHEIA ZILLAHRI, a homebred beauty sired by resident chief sire OM EL BENICIO (WH Justice x Om El Benicia by Om El Shahmaan) and out of the truly glorious GLORIA APAL (Psytadel x SA Misha Apal by AS Natsir Apal). Brazilian National Champion KHALEESI EL LAMI RB (out of Lami El Sabah RB by El Tino), another major winner for DOMINIC M, earned the fiercely fought Supreme Bronze Championship in the junior filly division, undeniably one of the strongest of the day.

The Italian-bred international champion FAROUK PALAZZOTTO (out of D Feddah by Shanghai EA), the highly prized son of international super sire D SERAJ (FA El Rasheem x Ladi Veronika by Versace), added further prestige to his show record by earning the Supreme Gold Champion Junior Colt title for owners Hagale Family Arabians while superbly shown by Andrew Sellman, who earned his record fourth ABWC Professional Handler of Excellence award in the process. The Royal Arabians entries ROYAL RAJAAH, already a winner as Supreme Gold Champion Colt/Stallion/Gelding ATH, and HAZ AL BRSB (Royal Asad x Elegance AL by Halyr Meia Lua), both handsome dark bays with smooth bodies and undeniable appeal, were selected as Supreme Silver and Bronze Champions, respectively, all of which made for back-to-back celebratory photo ops for an ecstatic Team Royal.

Highest Score of the Show honours were coupled with the Highest Scores for both Type as well as Neck & Shoulder for the still spectacular PERFINKA (Esparto x Perfirka by Gazal Al Shaqab), who was crowned Supreme Gold Champion Senior Mare for owners Al Rahjiat Stud of Saudi Arabia. Bred in Poland by Białka Stud, PERFINKA was not only the oldest horse entered, she became the oldest ever to earn a Supreme Championship in World Cup history. This remarkable achievement of both endurance and relevance was eclipsed only by the fact that PERFINKA is now the only horse ever to repeat the same success at the World Cup, having first achieved Supreme Gold Championship glory at the last ABWC in Las Vegas in 2019 while on lease to Lollie and Lara Ames of Cedar Ridge Farms. Expertly prepared by Team Royal and respectfully shown by Glenn Schoukens, PERFINKA is still a marvel from head to tail, aging to perfection as so many Polish-bred icons have done before her.

Mirroring the depth of quality in both the Yearling and Junior Fillies, the competition for Senior Mares was highlight of the entire show, with magnificent matrons bred on four continents brought forward for assessment. Two homebred beauties with international connections, however, held their own in the Top Ten line-up, finishing in Bronze and Silver medal positions. The ethereal Peacemaker-bred MARBELLA PCF (Exxalt x Verietta PCF by PCF Vision), fresh off her Silver Championship in Scottsdale International competition, was named Supreme Bronze Champion for Arabian Soul Partners of Mexico. Just ahead as Supreme Silver Champion, was a young mare hailing from one of the most globally renowned and accomplished breeding programmes of the last six decades, that of Om El Arab International, a name synonymous with classic Arabian type and beauty.

Having always been on the vanguard of recognizing breeding achievement and enduring contribution to the Arabian breed worldwide, the Alliance chose to honour fellow Board Director and celebrated horseman, breeder and all-around amazing human being Larry Jerome of Jerland Farms with the 2023 AHBA Lifetime Achievement Award. Following a moving video tribute highlighting Larry’s profound positive influence on not only the Arabian breed but the greater livestock and pet industries at large, his daughter Moriah and son-in-law Matt Fisher accepted the magnificent bronze trophy creatively conceived and kindly donated by gifted sculptor Carol Fensholt-Nierenberg in Larry’s absence, whose mighty and always inspiring physical presence was greatly missed at this year’s event. The AHBA also honoured Cindy Reid, the USEF Steward responsible for making more World Cup events run smoothly and without incidence than any other, with the well-deserved Distinguished Service Award in her final appearance as an official at an Arabian show.

The highly coveted Breeders Cup competition, in which those breeders with at least two entries are rewarded for the most consistent achievement annually, again recognized five of the leading show supporters and industry innovators. Steve and Christina Poore’s Orrion Farms, Sam Peacemaker’s PCF Arabians and Dr. Ben Bassichis’ Stella Bella Arabians were all honoured with smaller versions of the silver Breeder’s Cup for their achievements, finishing just behind runner-up recipients Michael Weinstein, Jean Edwards and Arturo Uribe representing Psynergy Enterprise Developments LLC, former winners of top honours. Most rewardingly, for the first time in their many years of tireless involvement and unparalleled support for the Arabian breed, Cindy McGown and Mark Davis hoisted the original silver cup

Royal Arabians was also incredibly busy as host extraordinaire throughout the World Cup weekend, opening their doors and welcoming guests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, a highlight of which was the Stallion Stampede charity fund raiser. With a ticketed event at Royal on Saturday to support Rotary International, Murray and Shirley Popplewell opened their doors at RaeDawn Arabians at their exclusive Arabian Park address to the general public, celebrating their 25 years of involvement with the Arabian breed with consummate hospitality, an exceptional line-up of horses and a Breeding Pays Futurity fund raising auction of two immensely appealing unborn foals. On Sunday afternoon, immediately following the final award presentation at Westworld, Sandro Pinha and Gil Valdez welcomed everyone to a formal presentation of show horses and sale prospects to bring the 2023 event to a celebratory close. Whatever the future may hold for the World Cup in 2024 and beyond, the opportunity to visit local breeders on each night of the show will remain one of the greatest rewards of the show’s sojourn in Scottsdale.

With many options on the table for the World Cup as the decade progresses, the global community remains expectant and supremely confident that the AHBA Board of Directors will guide this seminal international event into the future with insight, innovation and inspiration. Given all that the Arabian Breeders World Cup has already positively contributed to the breed and the industry to world over, we look forward to an extraordinary and no doubt transformative journey ahead…

Even though the Arabian horse is known to have originated from the sands of the Arabian desert, Europe has had a long tradition of breeding and showing Arabian horses and has played an important role in establishing the Arabian industry as we know it today. Some of the most prominent stud farms in the world, both public and private, have been founded throughout the years on the Old Continent. Countries like Belgium, Poland, Spain, Holland, Germany or France established some of the most influential breeding programmes that have taken huge part in shaping the Arabian horse of today. Some European countries can boast about having documented breeding that traces more than 200 years back. Consequently, some of the most important Arabian-related events have been so far held in Europe, including the three prestigious

title shows: All Nations Cup in Aachen (Germany), European Championships, most recently in Lier (Belgium) and World Championships which was held in the capital of France for more than four decades but have been transferred to Qatar for 2023 and is said to take place in Paris every second year. It is impossible not to notice how the European show arenas feature less and less participants each and every year. The situation seems to affect all areas of the business and its inevitable outcome is the disturbing decrease in the number of Arabian horses bred, trained and shown on the Old Continent. The decay of the European Arabian horse industry will at some point surely affect the situation of the breed around the world and hence it is crucial to change the course of events. The hope to heal the situation lies in those Arabian horse enthusiasts who have not given up and work hard to rebuild the

position of the European-bred Arabian horse in the world. This burning issue has been discussed by many but because actions speak louder than words, these true ambassadors of the breed who take an action to make things better are the ones that truly matter.

Undoubtedly, Christine Jamar-Demeersseman is one of those people who are not indifferent to the growing issue and are doing their best to move the matters in the right direction. Christine, the founder and owner of Jadem Arabians, one of the biggest European breeders with more than 45 years of experience in breeding as well as a highly respected international judge and one of the most influential names in the industry, surely needs no introduction. For Christine, the breeding of Arabian horses has always been so much more than a business. It comes as no surprise that her lifelong

passion and love for the breed have made her sensitive to its difficult situation in Europe. Christine devoted her whole life to the Arabian horse. Although she officially announced that her 35-year-long adventure with organising the European Championships had come to an end, she will remain actively involved in all matters related to the industry. Her life motto to never give up helps Christine to remain optimistic in these difficult times, while her impressive knowledge and experience have become invaluable assets for the industry over the years. It is no exaggeration to say that Christine knows everything about breeding, training and promoting Arabians and the value of her professional input comes to the surface every time she takes charge of coordinating the show. Her incredible involvement in gradually enhancing the prestige of the European Championships, one of the

most significant title shows of today, was no exception. Christine understands the importance of keeping the European Championships exclusive to the horses bred and owned by the citizens of the Old Continent all too well and, at the same time, she knows that there is an urgent need to increase the number of participants in

European shows. In contrast to the popular belief that one cannot have the cake and eat it, Christine came up with a brilliant idea to increase the participation while keeping the title show exclusive to the European-bred horses by combining European Championships with a B international event know as United Crown Cup. Therefore, two shows instead of one were held in Lier on the weekend of 28th to 30th October 2022; the title show which still permitted only European-bred participants to enter and the new addition to the Lier event which was available to any horse, regardless of its origin and ownership. It seems that Christine’s idea turned out to be a spectacular success. Not only did her recommendation help to attract more exhibitors but it also gathered many flattering comments among the participants of the show as well as its officials. The compliments about the wonderful venue, the flawless organization focused on every little detail and the luxurious feel of the whole event seemed to be endless and, what is more important, very well-deserved. And who would be more competent and capable to comment on the quality of the show than the highly experienced and knowledgeable judges who, in the course of their career, attended a vast variety of events held around the world?

The way that Ms Christine Jamar and the team did an impeccable job organizing such an important event and the way she took care of the judges should be set as an example to other show organizers. All these flattering comments fully reflect the essence of the event, highlighting the hard work and dedication of the whole team led by Christine Jamar. However, she modestly puts a huge part of her success down to the input of Carl Van Roosbroeck, her longtime partner in organizing the show. Christine also highly appreciates the support of her amazing team which have acquired new members in the form of young enthusiastic volunteers every single year. This combined effort resulted in an unforgettable event. For some, the show brought back old memories, for others it created new memorable moments but all the officials speak with one voice when it comes to the atmosphere and organization of the show. For many, it was an honour to be part of the event and all of them are grateful for the invitation to become part of the team. According to the judges, the European Championships and United Crown Cup in Belgium should be an example to follow for other organizers in terms of both professionalism and commitment. The members of the jury also emphasised the significance of the atmosphere and conviviality during the event which is often lost in fierce competition and politics, especially at prestigious title shows. At the end of the day, everybody likes to feel they are among friends who share their passion, ideas and vision.

It is a well-known fact that behind every success there are devoted and passionate people who, against all odds, fight for the right cause. Therefore, it is only to be expected that Christine, put in charge of organizing the show, created an exceptional and unforgettable event. Without a doubt, many members of the Arabian horse

community would agree that Christine’s name is on top of the list when it comes to show organization. What is more, she made sure that the Lier event was focused to a great extent on the future of the breed as she understands the need to address the burning issue of devaluing the European market, which in turn discourages the Europeans to engage in the Arabian horse industry. This general tendency to breed, train and show less, slowly but surely decreases the number of show contenders in Europe. Thus, the European breeders should put the competition, the politics and the differences aside because, in the long run, they all want to achieve the same goal. Following in Christine’s footsteps and taking decisive actions rather than echoing empty words might be the way to make the European-bred Arabian horse regain its diminishing significance and to help it flourish even further in the future. q

Chile once again brought together South American Arabists with its always cheerful and receptive Exposición Nacional del Caballo Arabe, this year in its 29th edition. There are two days of exhibition, but the lively meetings in the residences and in the stud farms between the breeder friends starts the day before and extends until two days after the end of the judgments.

The Belgian Christine Jamar, the American Doug Dahmen and the Brazilian Rodrigo Forte judged 66 horses from 16 breeders between 25th and 26th of March at the centenary Santiago Paperchase, an equestrian club located in a pleasant region surrounded by mountains and a sophisticated shopping center and offices close to the capital Santiago.

The judges chose LL Maglud , sire from Alfredo Hasbun’s Haras La Laguna, as the Stallion National Gold Champion. The impressive bay LL Maglud is son of the Argentinean ZT Magnanimus, internationally known for his beauty and presence, descendant of Magnum Psyche and El Shaklan his maternal grandfather. LL Maglud is out of ZT Ludteyna, is also of Zich Thyssen’s Argentine breeding. She is daughter of Brazilian Ludjin El Jamaal out of American National Champion Shateyna by Bey Shah.

The dispute between mares was one of the great moments in this National. This Championship practically summed up the efforts of Chilean breeding to follow the genetic sources in vogue today in the great world breedings and mixed them with the traditional Chilean blood.

Gold National Stallion LL Maglud from Haras La Laguna of Alfredo Hasbún

Jorge Selume’s Haras Santa Marta was the big winner of that Championship with HSM Thania , that won the Gold and HSM Lunah the Silver. Bronze went to Haras Shangrila owned by Roxana Zambrano and Pedro Gonzáles with HS Monserrat .

HSM Thania is a daughter of JJ Aphar, bred by Haras Mayed in Argentina, son of Faraa Al Shaqab by Marwan Al Shaqab. HSM Thania’s mother is the Brazilian Miss Bianca, raised by Rinaldo Longuini, daughter of Sirajj UB, also grandson of Marwan Al Shaqab through Marajj.

Another star from Haras Santa Marta to shine at this National is the Silver Medal HSM Lunah, daughter of Dominic M, one of the great sires used by South American breeders. The American Dominic M by DA Vinci FM was imported by Haras Las Rosas from Uruguay, he became Uruguayan and Brazilian National Champion and today he is back in the United States under the care of Orrion Farm. HSM La Lunah is out of Michailla, daughter of Brazilian and Chilean National Champion Matisse FM by Marwan Al Shaqab.

One of the beautiful mares presented at this National was the refined Bronze Medal HS Monserrat, daughter of the renowned Italian Ajman Moniscione out of Sateen Dream, daughter of the sire of Champions in Canada and the United States Magic Dream by *Ali Jamaal.

Gold National Mare HSM Thania from Haras Santa Marta of Jorge Selume

The Colt Championship (36 to 48 months), presented a consistent group of young stallions where the Brazilian Axell , imported by Haras Lonco of the Duch Matthei Family, won the gold medal, the Silver went to Los Pellines Maksum from Haras Los Pellines de Helmut Mohr and HS Mateos from Haras Shangrila owned by Roxana Zambrano and Pedro Gonzles took Bronze.

The Gold medal Axell is a son of Preludio OSB, twice Brazilian National Champion and American National Champion Stallion Senior. Axell’s dam, RL Alita Mam, is a daughter of El Shakhyr by FA El Shawan.

With this pedigree full of National Champions Axell could not have any other destiny than the podium of Champions. He was bred by Eugenio Rigonato and won the Bronze in 2020 Brazilian National Yearling Championship before being exported to Chile.

The Silver Champion Los Pellines Maksoum is the son of Shangrila Baltazar, who had previously been Junior National Champion in Chile, which when taken to the United States produced, among others, Al Malikk, National Champion Futurity Colt in 2020.

The Bronze Champion HS Mateos is the son of HS Dominus out of Anais.

The Filly Championship, composed of fillies aged 24 to 48 months, was the most disputed at the show with 12 females to be judged. The daughter of Baltazar Shangrila, HS Milagro won Gold for Roxane Zambrano and Pedro González. The sire Baltazar was one of the first horses to be born at Haras Shangrila and showed to Roxana and Pedro the path of high-level breeding.

Ely Kassis’ Haras La Chica won the Silver with HCL Pure Magique, a daughter of the black sire Magic Magnifique, son of the pure Egyptian True Collors. Magic Magnifique, from Sweeden Arabian Stud, has achieved great recognition in Europe. The dam of HLC Pure Magic is HSA Olombi, daughter of also black Abrakadabra RH, a sire that Kassis imported from the United States and made the basis of mares for Haras Santa Ana, another farm also owned by Ely Kassis.

The Bronze Champion HSM Sabrina comes from Jorge Selume’s Haras Santa Marta. She is daughter of Dominic M by DA Vinci FM. The American Dominic was imported by Haras Las Rosas from Uruguay. He was very successful with many champions in South America and today he is back in the United States at Orrion Farms. HSM Sabrina is out of Sienna Storm, daughter of the World Gold Champion in Paris Hariry Al Shaqab.

In the Junior Colt Championship Haras Llancay from Nicolás Duch and Family won Gold with Llancay Kenai and Silver with Llancay-HL Kamal . Llancay Kenai is son of the Chilean and Brazilian National Champion HP Ali, today one of the most important sires bred in Chile. Llancay Kenai, for the second time Chilean National Champion, is out of HP Kasira, mother of National Champions in Brazil and Chile and daughter of the Brazilian sire Hafati Express.

The Silver Champion Llancay-HL Kamal is son of the Chilean and Brazilian National Champion Matisse FM. Matisse is a son of Marwan Al Shaqab, imported from the United States by Haras Stigmatas - Brazil and later exported to Haras Lonco in Chile, where he is headquartered today. Llancay-HL Kamal is out of National Champion Llancay Shakyra, a granddaughter of Chilean breeding patriarch LC Farid, through Llancay Sultan.

In the Yearling Colt Championship, the Gold went from Haras Santa Ana by Ely Kassis with HSA Urano son of Emerald J, a sire of Al Rajhiat Stud from Saudi Arabia, Gold Champion Stallion in Dubai-UAE and Gold Champion in the World Cup of Chantilly in France. HSA Urano

is out of HAS Almendra, daughter of Leonardo GA by Da Vinci FM, imported from the USA by Jaime Valdes and much used by Haras Santa Ana.

The Silver and Bronze Champions came from Jorge Selume’s Haras Santa Marta. HSM Dakar, like the Gold Champion HSA Urano is also a son of Emerald J and his dam Shaly Moon RB daughter of Siraj UB by Marajj comes from Brazil, more precisely from the breeding of Adriana Moura’s Haras das Cascatas. The Bronze HSM Magnific is son of Magnum Psyche, one of the greatest sires of this century and his mother is Michailla by Matisse FM.

In Junior Filly Championship, Haras Lonco from Duch Matthei Family took Gold with the beautiful Lonco Baby Beauty and Bronze with the graceful Lonco Baby Tara. The two are daughters of the Brazilian TS Zaarife El Khidam, a new sire that the Duch Matthei are successfully testing in their breeding. TS Zaarife El Khidam is son of TS Khidam El Shawan, Brazilian Gold National Champion Young Stallion imported by Royal Arabians from the United States, became Silver Champion at the World Breeders’ Cup in Las Vegas. The Gold Lonco Baby Beauty is out of Exquisita Bella by the Krayon SAMS grandson of Ali Jamaal and the Bronze Baby Tara is out of Pure Desire HAV, a Brazilian mare by Ajman Moniscione.

The Silver Junior Filly comes from Jorge Selume’s Haras Santa Marta. HSM Dulcinea is daughter of the Argentinian JJ Aphar out of Magga, a mare resulting from an inbreeding in JJ Senor Magnum, her father and maternal grandfather.

In the Yearling Filly Championship, Jorge Selume opened the podium of awards at Haras Santa Marta with the elegant HSM Agatha daughter of the South American Sire of Champions Dominic M out of Chilean National Champion HSM Perla Negra by Magnum Psyche.

The Silver and Bronze Champion comes from the traditional Haras La Laguna of the Hasbún family. LL Lady Li is daughter of HP Ali, the most important descendant of LC Farid, great-grandson of Bey Shah and fundamental sire of the current Chilean breeding. LL Lady Li is out of LL Lady Dream, daughter of Brazilian Bey Shahdow TGS, a Bey Shah’s grandson.

Bronze Champion LL Miss Emerald is daughter of Emerald J by QR Marc and out of LL Miss Beauty out of JJ Señor Magnum a very successful Argentinian sire in South America, son of Magnum Psyche.

Chilean breeders paid a touching tribute to Arturo Bulnes Cerda, who died in October last year. Homage to breeder Don Arturo, mentor of Haras Panquehue, who raised the bar for Chilean breeding. To the leader Arturo, one of the founders of the Associación Chilena do Caballo Arabe. To the lawyer Dr. Arturo who defended and convinced, with solid arguments, the acceptance of South American pedigrees in the international community of the breed. To friend Don Arturo, who always with great generosity of spirit supported and advised all arabian lovers. And to papá Arturo who, alongside his partner Silvana, raised eight children, all in love with the Arabian Horse.

We are at the Dubai World Trade Centre and this year we are celebrating 20 years of successes of this large and rich International show that features the participation of the member states of the United Arab Emirates and many neighboring nations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt. The prize pool of $4million is one of the most generous in the Middle East, which is why it sees the participation of numerous horses all of excellent quality. The event takes place as part of an equine industry fair popular with an international audience, which can enjoy shows and booths for horse clothing and products. The staff as you can imagine is numerous in addition to all the staff involved in the catering, security, and show management.

The organizational chart of the show consists of the president Mr. Ziad Abdullah Galadari, his deputy Mr. Abdulrahman Obaid Al Belshawareb.

Mr Sultan Mohammed Khalifa and Mr Yaqoob Yousuf Al Makhani are Board Members. General Manager and Board Member himself is Mr.

An excellent job of managing is done by the three women of the show, Mrs Albina Patyka, Mrs Christianne Chazel and Mrs Dominik Briot under the supervision of the executive manager Mr Adel Saeed Al Falasi. Coming to the panel of judges, 10 the judges from all over the globe: Mr Raouf Abbas (from Egypt), Mr James Constanti (USA), Mr Robbie Den Hartog (Netherlands), Mr Lucas Gozdzialski (Poland), Mr Murillo Kammer (Brazil), Mr Cristian Moschini (Italy), Mr Gideon Reisel (Netherlands), Mr Tamas Rombauer (Hungary), Mrs Martine Van Hee (Belgium) and Mrs Micaela Weidner (Germany). Five are also DCs, Dr Sujeet Bhaskar Suryawanzhi and Dr Umer Raza Gill from the UAE, while from France Mrs Christiane Valette, Mr Bertrand Valette and Mr. Jean-Marc Dubois. Also from France was the Ring Master Mr Jean-Bernard Kupaj.

While attending my first Arabian Horse Show in the mid 1970’s, my heart became smitten with these magnificent creatures. It felt my whole world transform in an instant. A genuine and lifelong passion for the Arabian horse was ignited and that passion remains in my heart and soul.

At the time, I had no idea how significantly my life was about to be re-aligned, or how the experiences and adventures would shape both myself and my future. I could never have dreamed of all the amazing Arabian horses I would be blessed to experience and often care for. What I did understand so clearly, like an epiphany, was how they moved me. Everything Arabian it seemed. From that moment, now more than 50 years ago, I have always felt an unparalleled joy whenever I was close to these beautiful animals. For me, they are the gift that keeps on giving and the love affair that never ends. It is just that simple.

And so, it remains true today, perhaps even more so than ever. I simply cannot imagine my life without the Arabian horse and this community that I am so pleased to be a part of. It truly gives me the greatest pleasure to have the opportunity to capture with my images a jubilant expression, a majestic pose, or the natural beauty, charisma, or attitude they possess, which those of us who truly love them all respectfully recognize as the authentic character of the Arabian Horse. It truly is a wonderful life!
