resently located in the Belgian municipality of Brecht, Flaxman Arabians can be called a family farm for at least two reasons: most members of the Hennekens Van %es clan are involved in its operation and, more importantly, all the animals that share the space with the people are treated as an important part of the family. Founded in 1978 by the late Jan van %es who bred Welsh section A ponies since 1966, the Flaxman breeding programme is now continued by Jan’s daughter Helen and her husband Kay as well as their son Koen. In the forty-four years of the farm’s existence, the input of several family members with different preferences when it comes to pedigrees resulted in the well-matched mixture of Straight Egyptian, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Crabbet bloodlines.
The founder of the stud, Jan Van %es, was not only a true horseman but he was also an actively involved board member of the Dutch Arabian Horse Society for more than twenty years. In 1978, Jan purchased his first Arabian horse, the four-year-old mare named Allegria (Gon – Deglet
%oer / Goldbey) representing the Polish and Crabbet bloodlines. Measuring only 144 cm at the withers, Allegria was supposed to take Jan’s pony breeding programme to the next level as well as become Helen’s favourite mount. When the mare joined Flaxman Arabians, she was in foal to Ibn Argos (by Argos) and in 1979 she produced a lovely filly, Flaxman’s El Myrrah. Both the dam and her daughter spent their whole lives at the farm, producing precious progeny by various sires, and both Allegria and El Myrrah reached a ripe old age of thirty-one and thirty-three respectively. The purchase ofhis first Arabian mare made Jan fall in love with the breed and soon after he was on the quest for other Arabian bloodlines. While visiting Stoeterij Arabica in Vlimmeren, Belgium, owned by Joseph Peeters at the time, Jan fell in love with the liver chestnut stallion Aber (Anter – %azic / Morafic), a fine blend of Egyptian and Crabbet pedigrees. Since then, Jan was determined to introduce Egyptian blood into his developing breeding programme, and hence he bought two yearling fillies from Joseph, both chestnut and both sired by Aber; %axaba out of a Crabbet

horses not only at the local shows but also in Aachen and Paris. One of the greatest achievements of her brother was second place in Paris with the aforementioned mare %axaba. The next step in Helen’s career was the five-month apprenticeship at Eldorado Arabians of Bill and Evelyn Larsen in Arkansas, USA, where she learnt a lot about schooling and conditioning of show horses from Bill and Evelyn’s daughter Kaia. What is more, during her stay she fell in love with a gorgeous grey SE colt, Shah al Jabbaar (Ansata Ibn Shah – Dars Hideeba / Hamza) who joined the Flaxman family for a short time and sadly passed away at the age of six due to a leg injury. Although the death of the beloved stallion hit the family really hard, they decided to organize the quest for a new stud. Despite his great admiration for chestnuts, Jan always dreamt about having a black stallion. His dream came true with the purchase of Waseem Saaraakh (AK Waseem Montaal – Bint Serasaab / Ansata Abbas Pasha), the beautiful black SE stallion bred by Waseem Arabians from Texas. A classic black stallion with the most kind and gentle disposition and a sire of good
racing and endurance horses, Saaraakh became Jan’s alltime favourite stallion and spent his whole twenty-sevenyear long life with the family. Meanwhile, the opportunity came up to purchase the stunning snow-white stallion El Masri Amir (by The Egyptian Prince) who was maternal half-brother to the late-lamented Shah al Jabbaar and at the time the chief sire at Eldorado Arabians. The Larsen family decided to reduce the number of horses and El Masri Amir found new home at Flaxman Arabians where he sired some typy and refined foals, putting a strong stamp on their Egyptian breeding programme. Another chance to purchase excellent breeding material came along with the Tax Reform Act introduced in the USA in 1986 which discontinued the passive investment allowance that was so beneficial to horse owners and breeders. As a result of this, many renowned breeders went out of business and were selling their livestock. After thorough consideration, Jan jumped on the opportunity and purchased some high-quality horses and so did many other breeders from Europe and the Middle East.

The breeding programme of Flaxman Arabians was steadily growing when the Van %es family were informed by the local government authorities that they planned to change the landscaping around the farm. It meant that approximately sixty animals including Arabian horses as well as Shetland ponies that Helen bred for a number of years were deprived of grazing land, which in turn instigated the search for a new facility. Meanwhile, Helen met her future husband Kay Hennekens at a horse show in 1987. The couple got married four years after and have had two children, the daughter Sophie in 1996 and the son Koen in 1998. The family found a new facility in Brecht, Belgium however it required some small alterations before both the people and the animals could move in there in the spring of1996. The new farm was larger with more grazing land and more stables which in turn made it possible to expand the herd. Soon, the number of horses doubled to approximately a hundred and twenty and has stayed at this level until today. At that point, the growing farm required a person who would be responsible for its operation, and thus Gust Lambrechts, the former farm
manager of Arabica Stud, found his way to Flaxman Arabians. Gust managed the farm for many years until his health issues got in the way and made him change his career path. He was then replaced by Peter Wilms who has trained and shown the Flaxman horses for the last ten years and is still the main trainer on the farm. Since the family moved to Belgium, Helen and Kay Hennekens became the owners of the farm. Sadly, Jan passed away in 2009 at the age of seventy-one. In his memory, the Hennekens family kept his favourite horses till the end oftheir lives. A few years before his death, Jan purchased the liver chestnut stallion Ibn Barrada (Gad Allah – Barrada / Ikhnatoon), bred by EAO El Zahra in Cairo, who turned out to be his all-time favourite horse. A true Koheilan in type, Ibn Barrada was a very special stallion with a beautiful face. Unfortunately, he died ofcolic at the age oftwenty-two. Despite Jan’s great love and appreciation for Straight Egyptian Arabians, Helen and Kay decided to incorporate other bloodlines into the Flaxman breeding programme.

Raised among amazingly moving Russian horses, Kay was keen to work with the bloodlines he knew from his early childhood. His parents together with his sister Suzanne owned Shamrock Arabians, first located in the %etherlands and later moved to Portugal. When Kay moved in with Helen, his favourite stallion, the Straight Russian Myca (Kilimandscharo - Pinega / %azeeh) joined the Hennekens family. The liver chestnut Myca was amazing under saddle and Helen really enjoyed riding him until he passed away at the age of twenty-four. Kay’s strong preference for the Russian bloodlines resulted in the purchase of a yearling colt at the Kossack Stud in 2010, the grey Pristice Kossack (WH Justice - Prisiage / Gordon). Pristice turned out to be a great sire but due to a serious colic surgery at the age of three he requires a special treatment. Another WH Justice son that joined Flaxman Arabians was Jeryan Aljassimya (out ofPsierra / Padrons Psyche), bred by Aljassimya Farm in the USA and imported to Europe as a two-year-old colt after having been successfully shown in Scottsdale and Las Vegas by Ted Carson. His European show career has also
been very successful with four silver medals scored at shows in St. Oedenrode, Bruges, Addington and Lier with Glenn Schoukens on the lead. MM Sergio, another WH Justice son (out of Sarah El Bey / Bey El Jamaal) in the Flaxman breeding programme, won many in-hand classes as a young colt and now sires very nice foals. However, the precious genes of WH Justice have also been added through his delightful daughters: A Golden Girl of Kossack (out of Abakana Kossack / Balaton), Julnar Aljassimya (out of Ventures Serenade / GH Venture), MP Jawa Aljassimya (out of Pagentry EA / Padrons Psyche), Jubella Aljassimya (out of Om El Belinda Estopa / Om El Shahmaan), MP Julie Aljassimya (out of Belle Song HVP / Magnum Psyche) and Jannat Aljassimya (out of Karinena Dakar / Dakar El Jamaal). Shetland ponies until she grew out of them and switched to an Arabian gelding. However, at the age of fifteen, Sophie gave up riding and lost interest in equine matters with the exception of occasionally enjoying new-born foals at the farm. On the other hand, her younger brother Koen was not interested in horses as a child, he did not enjoy riding and preferred football instead. It has changed when Helen asked him to show the gelding FA Emerald (Kar Tiburon x Kristal C / Alzubio) in the junior handlers’ class at the Emerald Trophy in Brecht. Koen was thirteen-years old at that time and it was the beginning of his career with Arabian horses. After he finished secondary school, Koen decided to study horse management and this is what made him come back to riding. While at the university, he rode Dutch warmbloods and Trakehners but he set his heart on becoming professional handler of Arabian horses. This is why, he did an apprenticeship with Fernando Poli in Florida where he had a chance to learn a lot about schooling and conditioning of show horses. The hard work paid off and Koen became best amateur handler of the Aljassimya
challenge three years in a row. With such a great potential and passion for his job, Koen is a fast learner of his mentor Peter Wilms and he really enjoys schooling and showing horses. He had lots of fun while presenting his grey gelding %abeel al %asser (EKS Alihandro – %oofAl %asser / Ashhal Al Rayyan). Koen had his first big achievements as a professional handler in 2018 with two Polish stallions bred at Janów Podlaski, the bay Esfahan (Ekstern – El Fatha / Entyk) and the grey Etoryk (Om El Shahmaan – Etnologia / Gazal Al Shaqab). For the last three years, he has been employed as a trainer and handler at Schoukens Training Center in Maldegem while also showing some horses for Flaxman Arabians. However, Flaxman Arabians is not only renowned breeder of Arabian halter horses. Since 2020, it is also a licenced European Artificial Insemination Centre with the ability to ship the semen of their stallions across Europe. With the systematic addition of new bloodlines into their breeding programme, the Hennekens purchased several horses of precious Polish pedigrees, including the grey Michałówbred stallion Woj (Empire – Waranga / QR Marc), class winner at the 2020 European Championships in Prague, gold medal winner at the 2020 Prague InterCup, gold medallist of the 2021 Schayk show as well as 2022 Belgian %ational Gold Champion Senior Stallion and his classy chestnut stable companion Woronin (Vitorio TO – Wilda / Gazal Al Shaqab). Woronin is a truly versatile Arabian horse as he won both halter and under saddle competitions. His most recent wins include the bronze medal at the Schayk show and the Gold Champion Senior Stallion and Best in Show titles in Lage Horste, Germany, with Koen Hennekens on the lead. Flaxman Arabians got a serious boost ofthe Polish blood at
the 2022 Pride of Poland and Summer Sale in Janów Podlaski where Helen and Kay purchased five horses, four of them bred by Michałów Stud: the stunning snow-white stallion Kabsztad (Poganin – Kwestura / Monogramm), 2020 European Silver Champion Senior Stallion who spent two breeding seasons at Flaxman before the sale; the delightful dark bay Wieża Orientu (by Ganges), the daughter ofthe world-famous Wieża Mocy (QR Marc – Wieża Marzeń / Ekstern), European and World Gold Champion Junior Filly as well as Polish and US %ational Champion Senior Mare; the beautiful black-bay Frazza (Vitorio TO – Foggia / Gazal Al Shaqab), already a proven producer of show champions and race winners; as well as the ethereal Emfiria (Empire – Emfonia / Galba), the maternal granddaughter of Ernera (Monogramm – Ernestyna / Piechur), the only full sibling to the legendary stallion Ekstern. his maternal granddam Pinga (Gazal Al Shaqab – Pilar / Fawor), Platinum Gold Champion Mare. The modern show lines of Flaxman Arabians were also enhanced by the acquisition of the bay yearling colt D Fayyad (FA El Rasheem – D Feddah / Shanghai EA), purchased at the most recent European Breeders Trust Auction, as well as three horses obtained at the latest STC Auction: the six-year-old chestnut mare Zafira AS (Abha Qatar – Valentino’s Angel MI / DA Valentino) with her colt foal at foot, Storm AS (by Midas AS), and a chestnut yearling filly Shasta AS (Midas AS – Serena AS / Marwan Al Shaqab). Last but not least, Helen and Kay purchased the wonderful Wahaj Albidayer (Versace – Baila De Djoon OS /
Ajman Moniscione), a tall and exotic chestnut stallion and a superb sire of outstanding offspring, already used at Flaxman Arabians before his acquisition. The family of Flaxman Arabians is growing with more and more quality horses purchased each year to enhance and enrich its world-renowned breeding programme. The horses of the Hennekens clan are successful show champions as well as versatile ridden horses but, most of all, they are lifelong companions of the family considered its inherent part. The essence of the Flaxman phenomenon can be expressed in the following words: breed the Arabian horse at its finest and keep it all in the family.

Rothenberg “Do what you love to do with all your heart and force … and never give up!” Emotional and inspiring talk with Annette Escher, the woman who keep fulfilling her dreams and reach the success no matter what comes the way. by Urszula Łęczycka photos by Annette & Erwin Escher
Interview
Urszula Łęczycka: Your farm has been established 30 years ago by you and your husband Erwin. Nowadays you run it all by yourself and Straight Egyptian horses with GR prefix are worldwide known. You also run one of the largest Straight Egyptian black coloured herds in the world – that is in high demand nowadays. Can you tell us more about the idea of establishing your breeding program? Was it the same from the beginning or it has been changing through the years and following the market? What were your first horses and where did you get them from? Annette Escher: We started our Straight Egyptian breeding with a small number of horses several years before we could buy the right place and built “Rothenberg Stud” in 1991. In 1992 the stud and pastures was ready and we moved

our horses to here … from this time, having place enough, we were looking for the right additions and after we haven’t found most of them in Europe (there was only few Egyptians in Germany / Europe at this time and nearly nothing for sale) we went several times to USA looking at studs and horses driving thousands of miles weekly. During this time we found and bought the foundation horses for my recent breeding, so the mares like: Halims Asmara (Ansata Halim Shah x Lancers Asmara- US National Top Ten and twice World Res. Champion mare), Dalima Shah (Ansata Halim Shah x AK Bint Dalia II), Ansata Aya Maria (Ansata Shah Zaman x Ansata Aya Halima by Ansata Ibn Halima) – Bukra line and the black mare Maria Halima (Haziz Halim x Chelsea), Then the black mare Fasinah (Nahaman x Fatima) we found in Germany a bit later and before 1992 we already have owned the GR Aliyah (GR Faleeh x GR Anastacia by Classic Shadwan) first black out of Halims Asmara line

mare Samara (Ibn Moheba x Safiniya by Ibn Galal), I still own her granddaughter GR Safiniya and her black great-granddaughter GR Samantha! Over the years we sometimes leased a mare or made breeding-cooperation to add foals out of interesting mothers and motherlines – this way we bred GR Nashidah (by Classic Shadwan) which is the mother of black gold-premium stallion GR Nashad (exp. Kuwait, by GR Faleeh) and our young mare GR Layla (by GR Faleeh). After we moved to Rothenberg Stud we also bought our foundation-stallions: Classic Shadwan (Alidaar x Shagia Bint Shadwan) imported from Egypt, we found him in France, he was four years old at this time, Madallan-Madheen - when we heard about a GR Faleeh (Madallan-Madheen x Fasinah) & Annette 25-09-17, the day before GR Faleeh left to Kuwait

very special black colt being born 1994 out of special bloodlines we quickly went to see him, and we bought him in age of 6 weeks! He was the very first foundation for our black breeding! Madallan-Madheen was not bred to get black, his parents were chestnut (Ansata El Salaam) and bay (the famous Madinah, mother of Imperial Madheen) but he got black “by accident” and was just bred to be a great horse … and got a rare gold ribbon from the German registry later at the licensing show! Most of our early blacks were out of non black lines … blacks were seldom and good blacks even more and usually they were impossible to buy! loved the greys - in the end we love all colors so we only had a few blacks in the first years. Over the years we got more and more black foals (also Classic Shadwan produced fantastic blacks) and after 30 years I have managed to get great blacks from all our foundation-horses … for several I needed generations but meanwhile I have a fantastic group of black and black producing broodmares, many are already 4th and 5th generation of our foundation-mares! But color was not most important all the time – we both loved pretty exotic faces, good (proven) Straight Egyptian pedigrees and as we also were riders since the beginning we wanted to have a solid horse with good body, legs and movements which are able to carry us

Rothenberg Stud over the fields! The goal was not to lose any of this points over the years … type, body, movement … and most important at all the fantastic, people loving sweet character the Egyptians are famous for. UŁ: Straight Egyptian breeding is one of most difficult ones as you must use a very limited gene pool that creates some problems in avoiding inbreeding and breeding overall harmonius and typey horse. Limiting the Straight Egyptian breeding to black colour group only must be even more challenging. How do you find your way to keep breeding beautiful and correct horses with such a limited requirements? AE: Most of our foundation horses were not bred to get black which means they had a bigger gene-pool as if we would bought mostly blacks in the beginning … there were only very few black and black producing lines at this time which already often were inbred. And over the years we always were open to use sometimes outside stallions doesn’t matter the color like World Champion Al Lahab if we thought they would bring us something new in blood and look … in my recent herd GR Mahidah black filly 2022 (GR Ishad x GR Maheeba) - Moniet El Nefous line - the future

I have some great black mares and fillies from this line! We always used the Straight Egyptian bloodlines we liked personally not looking for trends and what other breeders prefer … we went our own way for our own taste and what we loved ourselves!
Marietta and GR Marianah (both Madallan-Madheen x Maria Halima) won several championships which was very special at this time as nearly no blacks was shown successfully! Also later our black stallion GR Faleeh (exported to Kuwait; Madallan-Madheen x Fasinah) was shown successfully … and many more. We sold our foals nearly all over the world and many of them won a lot for their new owners– many champion titles in halter classes as well as endurance races or riding classes. Our sold horses live around the world as breedinghorses and produce fantastic foals for their new owners … or are just best friends and great riding-horses to give their new owners fun and happy hours. We also bred several gold premium stallions at the stallion registration of the registry, for me one of the most difficult gold to get at all! We got gold premium titles for GR Amaretto (exported
UŁ: Did you manage to combine your goals of having the bloodlines, the strenght, stamina and also the colour and then keep into the fashion to win the show titles? It had to be extremely difficult task.. AE: Over the years we often showed our horses and many of our foundation horses and their offspring got Multi-Champions and gold premium stallions. For example Dalima Shah and her daughter Shadwanah (by Classic Shadwan) as well as Halims Asmara and her son GR Amaretto (by Classic Sahdwan) won among other titles the champion titles at the Egyptian Event Europe. Also our first homebred black mares GR

to Iran, Classic Shadwan x Halims Asmara) and for the blacks GR Nashad (exported to Kuwait; GR Faleeh x GR Nashidah by Classic Shadwan) and last year for Nashad’s black son GR Ishad (GR Nashad x Shaylah Bint Iman by Classic Shadwan) who is my chief sire at the moment. UŁ: Did you manage to establish some dam and sire lines of your own that you admire until that day and continue? AE: All of my recent breeding-horses come in direct line from our early foundation horses – and all of them carry either the blood of Classic Shadwan or MadallanMadheen or both of them! Over the years I managed to breed fantastic blacks from all of the foundation-mares which made me very happy and proud and I love to see that the sold ones make their new owners happy, too. UŁ: There is probably no Arabian horse lover in Europe that would not know the photos made by your husband Erwin who passed away 6 years ago. Since that time you keep running the farm by your own with just one helper. Your strenght, passion and achievements could be an inspiration for many woman or girls who dream or run the horse breeding on their own for different reasons. It must be hard, emotional but probably also satisfying when you manage to breed a great horse at the end? What would you say and advice to the other woman – breeders? AE: Yes, the death of Erwin for sure was the most terrible time in my life, I thought my life have stopped, too. But the horses helped me a lot because giving up is no solution, you have to go on day by day, they wait for you, they need you! Additionally, Erwins second favorite mare GR Asmara (GR Lahab x Halims’s Asmara) died a few days after him because of problems after giving birth and let her newborn filly GR Bint Asmara (by GR Moneef ) alone with me. This baby nearly died as well because of substitute milk so I needed to take milk from other mares to feed this baby … you can imagine that I nearly had no time to sleep over months which was very hard but maybe also good for me in this situation. My only

aim was that we both need to survive …and we did! This year GR Bint Asmara gave birth to her first foal herself, the wonderful black filly GR Aseela by GR Ishad … and this made me very happy!
I already got his first foal this year, a wonderful blackbay filly out of Erwins favorite mare GR Nashidah (by Classic Shadwan) and look forward for his next babies in 2023.
My advice is: do what you love to do with all your heart and force … and never give up!
UŁ: What an amazing story and the best proof to your words of advice that I would certainly put as a title of this interview! I wish you all the best of luck on reaching your future goals and of course – with mostly those great and happy moments for every breeder.
There are always good and bad times in our lifetime … you need to survive the bad time and grow yourself in the good time and take it into your heart for the future. Like my fantastic happy day yesterday when my homebred 3 year old homozygous black stallion GR Fasin (by Maheeb by Classic Shadwan), the much too early born last foal out of our foundation-mare Fasinah (which nearly died several time during the first weeks of his life) got a gold ribbon from the German registry as breeding-stallion with just amazing high scores in all points.

fter two years ofabsence due to covid, the All *ations Cup Aachen was back on the calendar this year and everybody was looking forward to this most fantastic show ofthe year.
The All *ations cup has been THE show of the year since many years. The idea of organizing a show that extended beyond Europe came from Mrs. Annette Hedley and would be open to all studbook accepted by the WAHO. The first Silver cup for the *ations Trophy, to be awarded to the nation that owned the best horses at the show, was sponsored by Lady Harmsworth Blunt whose husband was one ofthe co-founders ofthe UK Daily mail newspaper. This Daily Mail trophy was later re-named as The Lady Harmsworth Blunt memorial Trophy, after her death in 1992. Later, in 2001, Annette and Ian Hedley and The honorable Mrs. Mary Ann Wragg developed the idea ofthe breeders cup to the nation that bred the best horses at the show. This newly created challenge trophy is a beautiful bronze

TEXT BY: TALI TH A BAKKER PH OTOS BY: EWA I M I ELSKA- H EBDA created by the American artist, Mrs. Karen Casper, depicting a purebred Arabian mare lowering her head protectively towards her new-born-foal lying on the ground. This valuable bronze is a challenge trophy which is passed on at each *ations Cup Show to a new winner. The winner in addition receives a bronze plaque which depicts the mare and foal in relief. Shortly after the realization ofthis idea and the completion of the bronze, Ian Hedley, many years general secretary of WAHO, died. In his honor this new prize has been named "Major T.W.I. Memorial Trophy". The first shows where held in the UK, Sweden and Spain. Although the idea was to host the event in a different country each year, the All nations cup got it’s resident in Aachen in 1987. Later, dressage and jumping competitions were also added to the *ations Cup.

EAHS National Arabian Horse Championship 6 - 9 October 2022 text and photos by: Ewa Imielska-Hebda

fter immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of Abu Dhabi, which is a really fascinating and modern city, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, that presented us with a wonderful mixture of tradition and progression, we were looking forward to the next Abu Dhabi show. Abu Dhabi traces its rich history back to around 3000 B. C. and now has become a centre for many high-class cultural and sporting events such as the EAHS Arabian Horse Championship.
Just as the UAE "ational Arabian Horse Championship 2022, the EAHS Arabian Horse Championship 2022 also took place in the "Boudheib Academy", as it is a perfectly prepared equestrian center. The Championship was held under the ECAHO rules and judged by the panel of judges: Mr. Abdelouahed Maagoul (Morocco), Ms. Anna Stojanowska (Poland), Mr. Elyas Ibrahim Faraj (Bahrain), Mr. Eric Gear (France), Mr. Greg Knowles (USA), Mrs. Marianne Tengstedt (Denmark), Mr. Robbie Den Hartog ("etherlands), Mr. Urs Aeschbacher (Switzerland) and Mr. William Oppen (Argentina) also with judges in probation from United Arab Emirates: Mr. Ahmed Sulaiman Alnuaimi, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed AlAli and Mr. YousifAhmed AlAli. The show was once again professionaly organised by the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, with the kind patronage of
His Highnes Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al "ahyan. It is important to say that the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, founded in 1996, registers Arabian Horses in the United Arab Emirates and is the keeper of the studbook. It's duties include defending, with dedication and care, the heritage and purity ofthe bloodlines ofArabian Horses. The world-class standard and internationally recognised quality of the Arabian Horse in the Emirates is already fully appreciated and is promoted by the EAHS by holding the shows under ECAHO rules and standards – just like this one. The Show was spread over four days, because this event attracts dozens of breeders from all over the Emirates and in this case 437 horses were entered. Also the prize money for the event was very high, with the horses participating in the categories receiving a price money of 20. 000 AED each up to 7th place (around 5, 500 euro each). In addition, prize money of 20. 000 AED was awarded also for the gold, silver and bronze champions during the championship. We are and will always be honored to enjoy and contribute to promotion of such wonderful shows like this one all around the arabian horse world. And for all those who were not present we leave you with the pictures of our photographer Ewa Imielska-Hebda.

t's so wonderful to come again to United Arab Emirates to fully experience the opening of the Arabian Horse show season in 2022 by participating in UAE ational Arabian Horse Championship 2022 that took place in the "Boudheib Academy" just outside Abu Dhabi. The Boudhieb Academy is a well located equestrian center with very professional indoor arena, perfectly designed for holding all equestrian events and activities with style. That is where we could again admire wonderful Arabian Horses, as the United Arab Emirates is an original habitat ofthe beautiful Arabian Horses. The show was organised by the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, with the kind patronage of His Highnes Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al ahyan and held under the ECAHO rules and standards.
Show was also judged by the international panel of judges: Mr. Ali Sharaawi (Egypt), Ms. Anna Stojanowska (Poland), Mr. Elyas Ibrahim Faraj (Bahrain), Mr. Eric Gear (France), Mr. Greg Knowles (USA), Mr. Klaus G. Beste (Germany), Ms. Marianne Tengstedt (Denmark) and Mr. William Oppen (Argentina). The show took place over two days and just as before it was most enjoyable. We give our sincere thanks to the organisers as they made a wonderfully good job by making this Show proffesional, smooth, pleasant and memorable and thanks for giving us a wonderful oportunity to promote this Show, which is the one of the most important events scheduled in the Middle East. Ifyou were not able to see this great event, you can always observe and enjoy it through the lens of the camera ofour photographer Ewa Imielska – Hebda.

ALMARASEM RABAB AHC 2022
by Fabio Brianzoni z photos by Mahmoud Elbromboly, Gina Elnazer, Fabio Brianzoni The show held in Egypt, specifically in Rabab at the large breeding farm of Dr. Sheikh Khaled Mohamed Awad Bin Laden, of which he is also chairman, always has pleasant surprises for us. This event, which took place on 6th, 7th and 8th October and in which we have had the honour of participating for more than 10 years, turned into the top. One of the
most welcome was the hospitality at the farm, in comfortable cottages equipped with every comfort. Led panels inside the ring for the main sponsor, which is celebrating 25 years of honourable activity this year. sector. In addition, a giant screen where one can comfortably read the scores. Stands with cosy lounges for horse food companies, Arabian halters handmade by Jordanian artist Mr. Fadi, sculptures by artist Mona Al Maqdad. Ever since Tutto Arabi went to press with its first issue 25 years ago, we have never missed an appointment with shows in Egypt and particularly in and around Cairo. It is remarkable how breeding has grown a lot here, both in quality and in quantity of small breeders who can now go beyond the borders and compete in some international fairs with their products. In fact, there were 216 horses participating this year, and the historical breeders have always placed their products among the top, but I must say that we have seen excellent results, well deserved, even among the smaller and increasingly numerous breeders. But let's talk about the success of the show, which was well organised and had a professional and experienced staff: Nashaat Samy Hegazy (Head of the Organising Committee) and Nesrin Mahmoud Hegazy (Secretary). Eight judges were invited to judge: Abdel Raouf Abbas (Egypt), Christine

Valette (France), Paula Bohmer (Netherlands), Cristian Moschini (Italy), Nikolaus Jung (Germany), Jerzy Bialobok (Poland), Talal Al Mehri (Kuwait) and Sheikh Saud Al Thani (Qatar). The Disciplinary Committee was composed of five veterinarians, all Egyptians, given the large number of registered participants to monitor: Dr. Omnia El Sherif, Dr. Mohamed El Sherif, DR. Islam El Mahdy, Dr. Walid Osman and Dr. Eman Hamdy. In the arena, handling ring security for the judges were Dr. Mohamed Mohsen and Mr. Mohamed Akl. Abdallah Al Barmaky ( Jordan) and Dr. Yaassmin Atieh, both internationally renowned. Outstanding music for a show performed by Mohamed Al Ramy. It is definitely a show worth attending, I recommend it wholeheartedly as a good lover of this event, but consider that hospitality and all amenities are not lacking. The direction and scores were by Arabian Essence and the photos on the pages are by Gina Elnazer and Mahmoud Al Borombly. q

(ot only is Geraldyne one of the youngest daughters of Ali Jamaal, she is also one of the best producing Ali Jamaal daughters in the world today. Her offspring are to be found everywhere in the world and consists mainly of Black fillies and a special Black colt by WH Justice. In 2018, Al Jood Stud, Qatar purchased two embryo rights from Geraldyne el Jamaal. The first to be born was the amazing filly Qamar Al Jood by Qaysar al Jood, who have won many champion titles in Spain, always scoring above the 91 points. The second foal was again a filly, named Alicia al Jood by Alixir. This filly was sold to Morocco where she is also very successful at the shows, scoring also above the 91 points and who is currently preparing for the Middle East show

The youngest one is a Black filly by AJ Yas named ASE Gioia el Yas. Geraldyne is also a very successful sport horse. At the age of 18, she started her endurance career. (ow, at the age of 20, she is competing at the highest level and was awarded with several awards celebrating her success as an endurance horse. Her most recent success was in the summer of 2022 where she achieved a 4th place at the 192km Endurance race in the German Mountains, facing more than 3000 altimeters. It is save to say that Geraldyne el Jamaal is one ofthose horses who can just do it all!

The Ziggy Thyssen influence
A
nother legendary mare of Arabian Stud Europe is the famous, Canadian (ational Top Ten mare ZT Ludjteyna. Bred by Zichy Thyssen from Argentina, Ludjteyna is a daughter of Ludjin el Jamaal and comes out of the US (ational Champion & AHW Aristocrat mare Shahteyna. ZT Ludjteyna has also produced some successful offspring like the black colt Pistorius by EKS Alihandro who was an All (ational Cup Gold medal winner but she is most famous through her son ZT Marwteyn by Marwan al Shaqab.
For Arabian Stud Europe, ZT Ludjteyna produced an incredible filly named ASE Juillye el Teyna, sired by the farm’s chief sire ASE Juilliard. Juillye has inherited the extreme face and type of her sire but got the long legs, long neck and feminine looks from her dam Ludjteyna. With her great show attitude and stunning movement, Juillye is a great successor ofher dam. ZT Ludjteyna has the respectable age of 25 years and is enjoying her time at the farm and her rides in the forest together with her bestie Geraldyne el Jamaal.
Another Ziggy Thyssen influence at the farm is the recent acquisition Sihaam al Salhiyah. Sired by ZT Magnanimus and out of the beautiful ZT Fantmaisa by ZT Shakfantasy. Sihaam was purchased from (M Arabians earlier this year and was named Bronze (ational Champion mare just two weeks after her arrival! Sihaam is a beautiful feminine mare with an amazing neck and fantastic movements. It will be exciting to see her offspring in 2024! Also present at the farm is her half-brother, ASE Magnificent. Also sired by ZT Magnanimus but coming out of the ELITE mare ASE Bisiriya Hlayyil. Together with Talitha, ASE Magnificent was very successful as a sport horse. He won several endurance competitions, won two Best Condition awards at 80 km rides and won also the All Round Champion title at the 2022 Arabissimo sport contest for Arabian horses at all this before he reached the age of seven! In 2023, Magnificent will compete at several Cross Country events as well at the International CEI endurance events.

The legacy of ASE Bisiriya Hlayyil
O
ne of the first fillies born at Arabian Stud Europe, was the 2008 grey mare ASE Bisiriya Hlayyil. Sired by Bishr (Hlayyil Ramadan) and out of the foundation mare Manilah (Radamess II x Marischka by Plakat). Bisiriya has changed the farm to it success it has today. Many foals ofBisiriya has been champion in the show ring all around the world. Bisiriya was also a very successful sport horse, winning the bronze medal at the CEI 2* of 120km in Germany in 2016. She was also awarded with the ELITE certificate for her incredible production as a broodmare. This all before the age of ten! Unfortunately, Bisiriya passed away in 2020 due to a twist in her uterus.
She leaves the farm two sons, ASE Juilliard and ASE Magnificent and three fillies: the successfully shown ASE Kamiliya Hlayyil by Kahil al Shaqab and the two full sisters, Eshadah Bisiriya and Bisharat al Dawla by RHR Heir Of Marwan. The last one being in foal to Jyar Meia Lua for 2023. With foundation mares that are proven sport horses at the highest level and still look like they could win any show in the world, Arabian Stud Europe has a strong base for her breeding program with a future that looks bright in both the breeding, show and sport division!

VON KAMEKE
Breeder and Chairwoman of Pyramid Society Europe
246 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
SPECIAL I am Bettina von Kameke. I am living in the north of Germany where I have a small stud farm and where I breed Arabian horses who enjoy a happy life in wide pastures. To support the breeders of SE horses I became chairman of the Pyramid Society Europe in 2015. I grew up with two working horses and was the proudest child in the village if I was allowed to ride them home from the fields. At the age of eight I persuaded a neighbour farm owner to give me two ponies just for the vacation period. Nobody of my family shared this passion for horses but one day, I was twelve years old, a former employee of my parents called me from another neighbourhood farm: Bettina, you have to come here. They have many beautiful Arabian horses here. So I took my bicycle and my dog and went 5 km to this farm. From that day on until I finished school this stud farm Grabau became my second home. Almost every day I went there for grooming these wonderful horses. My favourite moment was when the evening light fell down and it was time to get home mares and foals. After a short while the owners for me were uncle and aunt and they took me to all kinds of exhibitions. I was allowed to sleep in the barn, I run with some legendary mares for presenting them and I assisted with difficult veterinarian actions. Later I got permission to ride them and to learn about their unique character, their sensitive spirit and their indescribable loyalty. These six years imprinted my life for the Arabian horse. The Arabian horse world changed enormously since the time when I met my first Arabian horse in 1969. The number of shows increased incredible before Covid and competition dominates breeding. As chairman of the breeders association Pyramid Society Europe my first question is how do the breeders deal with this development? There are and have been extraordinary feminine breeder personalities such as Judith Forbis, Marion Richmond, Lenita Perroy, Maria Salas and many others who had a tremendous influence on this Arabian horse breeding world. They all had to fight prejudges and obstacles. Their common basis is that they were dedicated to their goal and put all their effort, money and energy in it. I doubt that these foundation breeders appreciate the present situation. The cultural and religious tradition of many countries with strong bands to the source of Arabians horses have a certain habit to deal with women. When 20 years ago I saw the American sales manager Eileen Verdieck negotiating with sheiks and officials from the middle East I could learn that knowledge and competence are the needed values and make a big difference. It is easy to be a woman in the Arabian horse world if you just attend shows and come as a visitor. As a
business partner no matter if you are an owner, trainer, dealer or breeder you need to have more qualities to convince. When I was faced with the task to manage the stud farm of my passed away father-in-law my experience was based in my childhood many years ago. I had to understand that enthusiasm and belly feeling is not enough to take care of 70 Arabian horses. The staff of employees knew everything better but from my point of view they did not treat the horses in a good way. That was the reason to finally do my master ship in horse management. From that moment on I had a much better position because some things had to change not only because I said it as the owner but because I had the arguments. The next step was to introduce horsemanship in the handling of the horses. The system of Pat Parelli was easy to pick up for the girls in the stud and the men needed longer time but in the end the horse had the benefit. To the breeding program of the solid Weil-Marbach bloodlines I added more pure Egyptian bloodlines. In preparation for that I travelled around the world to see and compare and wherever I went I found open arms and beautiful horses. I was curious and open to learn. I think you need to have a vision, solid knowledge and education, detailed research, dedication, integrity and authenticity, consistency, enthusiasm, energy, means and time, understanding and respect of different ways and love for your project. Many books, journeys, impressions, meetings, and talks with friends can help to bring structure to your ideas and emotions. As a little sister of two elder brothers. I always tried to be as good as they were but today I don’t think that it would have been necessary or a question of gender. It was a kind of competition and preparation for the real life, but it was not depending on age or gender but on the result. In my opinion women as well as men have to find and follow their own ways. It is not enough to be born as a woman or to own or deal with Arabian horses if you don’t have more qualities. The Arabian horse world might be dominated by bloodlines and success of beauty and for sure beauty and success are keywords for women but my message to a future generation of women is a different one. As long as you don’t know enough about the soul and the internal qualities of an Arabian horse you miss the goal. As long as you don’t have a happy horse you don’t need to think about bloodlines. If you feel with your horse and for your horse, its beauty and success is no more important. The unity of rider and horse in Endurance competitions for example is sometimes more fulfilling than any championship. The partnership with your Arabian horse when it is heading towards you when you are coming to the pasture expresses a different form of success.

SPECIAL
Hi, I’m Claudia Orsi! I was born in Milan and now divide my time between my hometown and Salerno - and I am so happy that Giorgia asked me to participate in the ‘WE WOMEN’ project! I have always been in love with horses, to the point that as a child I only drew them, and even today when I feel like painting, the subject is always a horse. I spent many years doing other things, as a manager in the fashion industry and horse riding in my spare time, until I realised that what I really wanted was to be happy, and there is no better way to feel that way than being around horses. So I took a sabbatical and bought my first horse for jumping (much to my mother’s disappointment). I spent so much time at the stables that they eventually hired me as stable manager! Whenever the opportunity arose, I spent hours with vets, dentists, osteopaths and farriers. I wanted to learn more and more about this beautiful animal, so fascinating in every way, and I started studying ‘Breeding and animal welfare’. But it was only recently that I approached the Arabian horse: it was in 2017 when I was asked to collaborate on the organisation of a morphology event, and it was love at first sight! My jaw literally dropped seeing these magnificent animals showing their beauty, their attitude and moving as if they could always hear music. In 2019, at one of these events, I met my partner Claudio Mazza (breeder and show organiser), to whom I am deeply grateful for involving me in the organisation of the aforementioned shows and for
making my dream of breeding horses a part of my reality. I spend most of my days in the paddock with them, observing their beauty, behaviour and temperament. With its warm blood, I consider the Arabian horse a step ahead of other breeds: it has a remarkable sensitivity and a strong personality, but at the same time the will to please the person who is able to win its trust. That is why I always feel honoured when I find the right way to communicate with the horse. The best moments, however, are when Claudio and I spend sleepless nights waiting for a foal to be born, and the magic of when it is born is indescribable. Of course, there are also difficult moments, both in organising an event, where planning can be slow and then the days become hectic a few days before its opening - and in breeding, where good or bad weather does not matter, working hours can be endless, weekends off are not an option and social life can be non-existent. In addition, it is not always easy to maintain balance while working with one’s partner, and sometimes I feel prejudiced precisely because I am a woman who works with her partner. As if my work would count more if I worked for a stranger. But on the other hand, I consider myself a very lucky person: my passion has become my job and, what’s more, with the person I love. Another reason why I am grateful to be part of this world revolving around the Arabian horse, despite being a niche, is the enrichment you get as a person. You meet people from many different countries, each with their own culture and traditions, so important to open your mind and make room for all the abundance!

SPECIAL
Thank you for inviting me to the We, Women project! My name is Kerstin Wisniowski and I live in Germany. I am a lawyer, teacher at the university so working mom, wife, horse owner, horsewoman, breeder and dog lover. I am also an Ecaho A DC, so I have the opportunity to be around the most beautiful Arabian horses in the world. As a young girl I bought with a loan from my parents my beloved riding school horse, a Polish half Arabian. Also, I live in southern Germany, close to where the Marbach State Stud Farm is located and where Om el Arab was founded, so I grew up going to see those fantastic gray Arabian horses with very big eyes. Also, the city of Baden-Baden is where Arabian horse races and breeding horse shows used to be held in the past and is very close to my hometown. So horse names like El Shaklan, Estopa and Marbach’s W-line were familiar to me from the beginning. When I grew up, I started buying Arabian Horse Magazine in Germany and reading Susanne Bösche’s news with all the insights about small farms. In my and my husband’s hometown, Heidelberg, the Kübe family had their Brigittenhof farm with the most extraordinary horses like Al Kidir, later founding a dynasty. Later I was happy to be able to buy from a friend two horses of El Shaklan blood. So Arabian horses are part of our family and are family members for us. Since the days of Om El Arab and the Marbach State Stud in the early 1980s, the world of the Arabian horse has changed a lot, due to high costs small breeders are disappearing and the horse business has changed very fast, also due to modern methods like embryo transfers, flying horses for shows and more. But the great character and aura of the Arabian horse have remained. To protect and support the Arabian horse and its breeders, the best way I found was to work as DC for Ecaho, which is mainly a volunteer work and therefore needs
a lot of heart from us for horses and horse shows. Because I think shows are basically still breeding shows and so they are still the best way even for small breeders to compare their horses, learn and also do marketing. I hope we can all support small breeders and exhibitions more! I was asked if I found any difficulties or obstacles in putting myself forward in this world. Well, as a DC this is a rather funny question, because you know that with this job I obviously have many small discussions with owners or handlers who complain or have problems to solve! But I’ve never felt that being a woman is not helpful - I think having a different view and approach to things as a woman is very helpful. And I think the fact that women are basically focused on solving situations and have an open ear gives a good balance in the Arabian horse world. I think of all the wonderful strong women in the Arabian horse world, like the Polish Izabella Zwadska or the Swiss Ursula Rahm or Joanna Maxwell (GB)...to name a few. I think being more patient with others - I try to train every day .... and I’m still working on it - can help us reach our dreams. And one quality I will never achieve is that of “letting go” - so I am a bad breeder because I can’t sell a horse ..... so I leave this task to people who know how to do it better than me. I sincerely hope my experience and story can be an inspiration to a future generation of women in this world - first and foremost as a full-time working mom with horses, dogs and as a DC - anything is possible if you really want it. And as a DC A I usually have young DCs on trial and in training with me during shows - and I take great pride when I watch them become strong women with self-esteem in the ring!

I have been breeding Arabian thoroughbred horses since 1981, when I bought my first purebred Arabian horse, Satir, at the Verona fair. He was a Russian line horse, who had also participated in flat racing in his home country. During my career as a breeder I bred Russian and Polish Arabian horses and then at a certain point I specialised in Straight Egyptian, as I wanted to try to keep alive ancient bloodlines, which are the basis of Arabian horse breeding. Just on the occasion of the 2022 Italian National Straight Egyptian Championship, three sons of Frasera Mashar bred by me at La Frasera (the breeding farm founded by my husband and I) won, and this is a great satisfaction because it means that we have worked well over the years. Seeing that this is a space dedicated to women and I am asked how I see the situation of women in this world and if I have had difficulties in presenting
myself in the world of Arabian horses, I would like to say that unfortunately as a woman I have felt disadvantaged not only in the world of horses but in general in all spheres, and I believe that unfortunately women are still disadvantaged all over the world, across the board, while men are increasingly advantaged at all levels. Deep reflection should be done on this, by everyone! Although I must say that in the Arabian horse world I have always felt respected. I have never personally had any problems, perhaps due to a question of age, or experience, I don’t know. But unfortunately I see that the new generations of women are not really considered and involved, even in the world of Arabian horses. It is all about possibilities, opportunities that are given, rather than respect for the person as a woman.

Hi, my name is Alessia D’Onza, I am 26 years old and I was born and raised in a small town in southern Italy, where my family’s Arabian horse farm is located. Ever since I was born I have had the privilege of growing up in the midst of nature and sharing this place with horses has always given me a great sense of security. Arabian horses came a few years later thanks to my father, I was carried away by his love for these horses and I learnt from him the passion and respect for breeding Arabian horses. As far as Arabian horses are concerned, I call myself a constant student, and the desire to learn makes everything more exciting and fascinating. I personally believe that it is essential to listen to and confront the views of others in order to gain new knowledge. It is amazing how a common passion can
overcome language, cultural and gender barriers: whether you are a man or a woman, the only thing that matters is respect for the other. Honestly and fortunately as a woman, I have never found any kind of obstacle in approaching this world; I have never experienced it as an impediment, I think that is why we are all bound together by the same passion for such a noble specimen. The same love that determines an essential contribution to the world of the Arabian horse. In my opinion, there is nothing that helps to understand this environment better than curiosity: the obsession for knowledge. I truly believe that the most important thing is to immerse oneself in the history of the Arabian horse, to learn from it to guide the future. Thank you to the We Women team for inviting me to be part of this fantastic project!

My name is Catherine Noël, I have been an Arabian horse breeder for more than 20 years, a horse lover and a rider for even longer. I am a midwife by formation, but I decided to move away from my profession to dedicate myself to horses: being able to make a living from one’s passion is an opportunity that one must give oneself and then take. I have always been attracted to horses, although there were none around me. I started riding at the age of 11. I wish I had done it earlier, but it was only when my family left Paris where I was born to live in the province that I was able to start going to a riding club. I spent every Wednesday and Saturday there. During the years that followed, I learned about jumping, dressage, trail riding... It was only after I met my partner Thierry in 1993 that I got introduced to the Arabian Horses, at the show in Menton. I still remember a stallion, entirely covered with a black satin blanket. All we could see were his big eyes, his ears and his hooves: Nadir. For me, it was love at first sight with this noble breed. Later on we created our Arabian horse stud together, which developed in 1999 with the arrival of Wh Justice. I will never be able to thank this horse enough to have entered our lives. To me, he represents the essence of the Arabian Horse: beauty, poise, elegance, complicity. I have self-qualified myself his “private secretary” and have been proud and happy to be so for 23 years! It is also since 23 years that I have been fulfilled
by what I consider to be the most successful achievement in my life as a woman: my son Thomas, who has always been a driving force in my choices and decisions. Becoming a mother has not slowed down my enthusiasm for riding, and by switching from club horses to Arabian horses, I have discovered another discipline: endurance, which I have practised for several years at international level. Here again I appreciate the complicity that is formed with the horses that we train for many months, the confidence that they give us, the energy that they transmit to us. All this experience gained over the years with horses and the people around them has led me to a new adventure as I am now co-founder of a tech start-up related to the equine industry. As a woman in the Arabian horse world I have encountered very few situations that I would call “embarrassing”, a couple of times when I felt that my female presence was not appreciated. But I think those days are over. Today, being a woman in the Arabian horse world is neither an obstacle nor an advantage. It is not the appearance that characterises a person, it is in my view his fundamental values: Respect and Tolerance are in my opinion the most important, regardless of gender. Just as women have found their place in the Arabian horse world, I hope that they will do so elsewhere, everywhere, even if it will not always be easy to achieve.
When I was a child, I was given a book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, which I often reread, and from which is taken the quote that I advise everyone to follow:
« L E T YO U R D R E A M D E VO U R YO U R L I F E , SO T H AT L I F E D OE S N OT D E VO U R YO U R D R E A M »

n Oct. 1 and 2, the curtain was lifted on the A ICA Italian ational Show Championship, the Italian Straight Egyptian 2022 Championship and an American mounted class, in the extraordinary setting of the Horse Riviera Resort in San Giovanni in Marignano, in the province of Rimini. The Italian event, which turns 35 this year, was held under the direction of the now close-knit management established in 2021.
world, especially the small ones who sometimes struggle to attend but whose importance should never be underestimated. The high quality that Italian breeders continue to produce with perseverance represents a reason for national pride that should be supported and promoted.
The organization left nothing to chance, everything was managed on time and with great participation and commitment by A ICA's experienced staff. From the set-ups to the catering, from the opening aperitif offered to all guests on Friday evening, to the cake dedicated to the show at the closing on Sunday evening, everything was warmly organized by a team of people who put energy and passion into the demanding task of offering Arabian horse enthusiasts a first-rate and exceptionally successful national event.

We met Devis Palazzi and his wife Manuela Monti and discovered that they have a passion in common with us: the one for beauty and perfection. At Tutto Arabi, this passion is expressed in the love for Arabian horses. Devis Palazzi and his wife, on the other hand, translate this passion into the creation of unique jewellery, which stems from Palazzi’s goldsmith mastery and the unconditional love he shares with his wife for the perfection of nature. It was easy with this in mind to converse with them about aesthetics and introduce them to the world of the Arabian horse and its magnificence. They were immediately enraptured by the story of the ‘son of the wind’, the distinctive aesthetic traits of the Arabian horse and its ability to set the soul aflame with its own precious beauty, as much as the uniqueness and rarity of a masterfully crafted gemstone set in a unique piece of jewellery.
“A unique piece of jewellery is born from an intuition that becomes a work of art,” Devis Palazzi told us. “Those I create are unique and unrepeatable pieces, made to capture and guard secret emotions. They are all born from the search for beauty that gives rise to the design of a piece of jewellery and characterises its every nuance, from the first pencil stroke on the sheet to the final result. The colours and shapes of precious stones, corals and pearls play with the imagination with ever new combinations and volumes. The line represents the highest expression of artistic talent that does not allow replicas to give the jewel, once worn, the opportunity to express its intent: to give back to the eyes what I caught in that moment of wonder and amazement. Wearing a unique piece of jewellery means understanding its emotional value and internalising it to give art a dynamic in space and time, the ability to walk through the world. To make a piece of jewellery I look for its most precious detail that makes it unique, that small imperfection that holds all the value and emotion of its elements.”

There are basically three jewellery lines offered in the atelier today:
Unique, unrepeatable and extraordinary jewellery, like the ideas that inspire him and the stones he uses. Unique, personalised pieces, the result of research and love for colours, design, volumes, art, music and life. These jewellery pieces are born from a unique process. Because unique are the stones that are used and unique is the work of Devis Palazzi. Always new inspirations, a combination of colours that are different every time, plays of volumes, spaces and shapes. No jewel is identical to another because no idea is identical to another.
To look alike is a way of feeling close while remaining different. Homologation is the enemy of art. Imagining, designing and realising a different detail each time, even a hidden one, gives soul and personality to the jewel and allows the artist to respect the precious materials and his work. Every piece of jewellery in the collections of the (im) Perfect line maintains small details that make it unique: subtle differences inspired by nature and necessary to give value to each individual element and, above all, to the uniqueness of the wearer. Researching a detail is a way to test our curiosity, our desire to discover the truth of everything and to be admired in the observation of what it is... not what it appears. With this vision, we better understand the threads and key concepts of the (im)Perfect collections.

A piece of jewellery to tell a story, preserve it and pass it on. Desires, passions and goals can become wearable art. Behind a Maecenas there is always the exceptionality of a synergy between the Master Goldsmith and the customer who together create the jewel. Shapes, plays of light and colours may arise from a family jewel, or from a new project that gives voice to something absolutely unique. It is this work of complicity with the artist that writes the story of our jewellery, draws its contours and makes it a unique experience. A pure expression of the inner world designed by four hands, the work that leads to the creation of a unique Maecenas jewel is dedicated to those who want more than a piece of jewellery, to those who recognise in stones, pearls and corals the representation of the best part of themselves.
“Just thinking about Maecenas jewellery,” Palazzi continues,“the idea of a unique piece of jewellery linked to the Arabian horse is developing, also following the conversation with Tutto Arabi and the excitement experienced in the Arabian horse events we have participated in so far, such as the 2022 Italian Championship of which we were also sponsors. The beauty of the horses I was able to admire so struck and captivated me that I could do nothing but let myself be carried away by all this beauty and begin to reflect on the possibility of bringing it into the jewellery I use to create, the stones and metals I use in my work. It would certainly be an enthralling adventure to design a piece of jewellery dedicated to the Arabian thoroughbred horse, one that could encapsulate all its morphological characteristics and its power, a piece of jewellery that would immediately evoke a burning passion, a sensation of strength, freedom, magnificence, that one could feel on the skin at first glance and that would immediately become desirable. Just as happens when you have the good fortune to observe a champion Arabian thoroughbred from close up, breathing in its essence, made of grace and power. I have already worked with projects made to order by customers who wanted a piece of jewellery depicting

an animal, either a favourite animal or an animal of their own. I fully understand the feeling of a client who wishes to wear a precious object such as a piece of jewellery that is able to immediately convey to him the bond with his animal, the love he feels, and that provokes in him that primordial emotion of human-animal bond, intense and at the same time elusive. To take on a subject like the Arabian horse would be an exciting challenge full of possibilities. My work is not just material, it is not just craftsmanship, although craftsmanship is a fundamental aspect of the service we offer because it determines the aesthetic traits and refinement of the jewellery we make. A fundamental part of my job, however, is to get in deep contact with the customer who asks me to give shape to an emotion. My job is to capture that emotion, that particular light in the eyes during a storytelling, and turn it into an object, a precious piece of jewellery, that evokes it every time, at every glance. Love, passion, bonds, memories, desires, fulfilments.”
A jewel can tell all this, it can become the silent narration of what cannot be expressed in words. In the skilful hands of master goldsmith Devis Palazzi gold and precious stones can take shape and life and can become messengers of what only an emotion can convey.
The passion for art and the quest for beauty inspire every work by Palazzi. The Master Goldsmith’s work is the expression that finds shape through his long experience made of study and great creative sensitivity. Devis Palazzi
Nature is always the protagonist in every nuance: unrepeatable materials, colours and sounds become part of every project where the precious element is a tribute to what is pure and intangible. Devis Palazzi’s artistic vision is to immortalise the imperfect wonder of emotions and translate them into jewellery. As in a dance, the sketches come alive, are coloured and become computerised representations, then sculpted resins and finally, like the natural motion of the waves of the sea at Portoverde, the place where the Devis Palazzi Atelier is located, marvellous jewellery ready to be worn.
