ECAHO INTERNATIONAL B SHOW and 5th Edition Italian International Egyptian Event by Fabio Brianzoni ❚ photos by Paola Drera
The 8th Arabian horse E.C.A.H.O. B show in Bergamo and the 5th International Egyptian Event, held on 5th and 6th September, no longer at the usual agricultural fair in the city, but in Zanica, in the “LA ROSA BIANCA” Equestrian Center. As for Arabian horses, the event called not only local but also international breeders. Many guests from abroad (some from Egypt and the Middle East) gave the event an international flair that will hopefully be increasingly important in the future. This year the horses were about 90 between the two shows (International and straight Egyptian), confirming the interest of breeders to participate in these shows. The horses were judged by Mr. Eric Gear (FRA), by Mr. Pekka Paakkonen (SE), by Mrs. Maria Annarattone Ferraroni
(IT) and by Mrs. Anna Stojanowska (POL). Assistant Judge Ms Cristine Valette (FRA). Disciplinary Committee: composed by Dr. Vet Manuel Zanchi, by Mrs. Barbara Raso and by Mr. Alberto Manerba from Italy. Ring Steward Mr. Mario Bonomi, Collecting Ring of Mr. Giancarlo Soresini. Speaker Mrs. Alessia Kyrylyuk. All events were available live on Arabian Essence Web TV. Thanks to all those who participated and were involved in the show for their support despite the difficulties due to the well-known restrictions. Special thanks to the organizers for their kind invitation and dedication to this great event. Enjoy the photos taken by Ms. Paola Drera. ❑

AL RASHEDIAH
Some Achieve Greatness - simply by birth by Joe Ferriss ❚ photos by Gregor Aymar
For Nadeer Al Rashediah, greatness was destined to be his birthright because he epitomizes the perfect balance of excellence one would expect from his royal pedigree. A son of the incomparable ZT Faaiq guarantees greatness in Nadeer. ZT Faaiq was not only a Junior World Champion Colt and European Junior Champion Colt, among other wins, but became a very successful sire of champions internationally. In fact, Nadeer Al Rashediah is from one of the world’s most celebrated patriarchies being a grandson of Anaza El Farid, who is also the grandsire of World Champion Stallion Marwan Al Shaqab. Add to this Nadeer’s patriarchy is handed down by Ruminaja Ali, one of the most prolific sire lines of global champions in nearly all bloodlines of Arabians.
Nadeer Al Rashediah will be passing on his greatness for generations to come.
Following in these footsteps of greatness, as a young horse Nadeer’s extraordinary balance and beauty were applauded in Bahrain with the titles of 2016 Bahrain Egyptian Event Gold Champion Colt and 2018 Bahrain Show Gold Champion Stallion. Likewise, Nadeer’s three-quarter sister Nadirah Al Rashediah won 2016 Egyptian Event Europe Silver Champion Yearling Filly, 2016 Straight Egyptian World Championship Silver Champion Yearling Filly, and 2018 Gulf Straight Egyptian Cup Gold Champion Filly. From this kind of breeding, one can assuredly expect that
Finally, the golden threads woven throughout the beautiful tapestry of Nadeer Al Rashediah’s pedigree are: the immortal broodmare Hanan who appears ten times in his precious lineage, and the most esteemed sire Ansata Ibn Halima who appears eight times in Nadeer’s pedigree.
His greatness also descends from his exceptional dam NK Nadine, bred pure in the strain Hadban Enzahi from the line of the beautiful EAO mare Bint Kamla. NK Nadine is a perfect genetic powerhouse built upon 37.5% concentration of the beautiful Hadban Enzahi mare Nashua, who is herself the full sister to Nejdy. He is sire of the celebrated Ibn Nejdy who is most potently expressed in his son the incomparable NK Hafid Jamil, paternal grandsire of NK Nadine. Her sire, the magnificent NK Nadeer, is a full brother to NK Naeema, 2013 Egyptian Event Europe Silver Champion Mare, and 2013 Berlin Cup Gold Champion Mare.
From every angle of Nadeer’s shimmering bright bay colored form one sees perfect balance and harmony, from head to tail. He is an unforgettable sight to see... a natural born image of greatness, who will create a legacy to be long remembered. ❑

INTERNATIONAL C SHOW ECAHO INTERNATIONAL STRAIGHT EGYPTIAN NATIONAL BREEDER CHAMPIONSHIP AL JASSIMYA AMATEUR CHALLENGE by Simone Leo ❚ photos by Alessio Azzali
Montefalco is a picturesque Umbrian town, in the center of Italy, an ancient medieval village bordering with Foligno, a city with fame in the field of horse breeding and races. It hosted for years the famous race called Quintana, a seventeenth-century gallop race. Since years even the small Montefalco has set foot in horse world thanks to its many breeding farms and competitions. Montefalco has important historical roots dated back to Roman times. Thanks to its dominant position in the valley between Spoleto and Perugia Montefalco has seen its civilization flourish starting from the XI century until

Renaissance. The story goes that Federico II Emperor of Holy Roman Empire and King of Jerusalem spent his childhood in Montefalco. Not only Art, History, Culture and the Beauty of the green hills in the earth of central Italy make pleasant this place. Montefalco is also part of the food and wine trail called “Strada del Sagrantino”, a natural path which let people enjoy one of the most appreciated wines produced in this part of the Umbrian land which attracts people from all over the world who come here to visit and appreciate its treasures.

FALCO SUMMER FESTIVAL
21-22-23 August
Totally immersed into this rich environment, Le Lame Horse Sporting Club in Montefalco contributed to the fame of this small town to be spread all over the equestrian sport world, both nationally and internationally. The equestrian centre which especially hosts important jumping contests, is equipped with spacious structures, French sand show ground and 500 boxes. In addition to that, equestrian sport facilities are available and very appreciated by visitors. Arabian horse lovers and ANICA breeders have been founding here for 5 years the right place where meeting each other and showing their Arabian horses. In the first row, regarding competitions, there are always the International ECAHO C Show and the Egyptian Event dedicated to the straight Egyptians, as well as the Trophies for breeders of Arabian horses born in Italy. In order to involve more young people and local breeders the Al Jassimya Amateur Challenge, sponsored by Al Jassimya Farm (USA), has awarded ridden Arabian horses and Arabian horses handled by no professional handlers. The goal of this initiative is finding new Arabian horse lovers who are available to attend targeted training to learn how to show their horses by hand and under saddle. Unfortunately due to the sanitary situation not many breeders and horses were at the show, not all this event
deserves. But the quality of horses was special and in the Egyptian classes scores were particularly high. The organizer Mr Roberto Ceccaroni and his staff invited a group of international judges to satisfy all category needs for International Show: H.H Sheikha Fatima Bin Hazza Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (UAE), Mr Klaus Beste (Germany), Mr Francesco Santoro (Italy), Mr Cristian Moschini (Italy). The international Jury for the Egyptian Event was composed by Mrs Antonia Bautista (Spain), Mr Francesco Santoro (Italy), Mr Cristian Moschini (Italy). As Ring Master Barbara Raso (Italy). A special thanks to the Disciplinary Committee Dr Vet Laura Mascagna (Italy), Mr Alberto Manerba (Italy), Mr Andrea Di Salvo (Italy) and to the dj Mr Gianluca Filippi for the music. Score Speaker and Results by Arabian Essence. The Vip Table and the info for Exhibitors were perfectly organized by Mr Gianpaolo Teobaldelli. The extraordinary warm weather has only partially influenced the natural horse and people vivacity. The three day event was interesting and has confirmed the validity of the place and of the organization which did an excellent job in respect of all the sanitary measures. See you there in 2021 with a lot of breeders and horses as this show deserves. ❑

the class ofyearling fillies group A. Seven out ofnine entries entered the arena, all participating for the International show only. The first place, with two times 20 on type and one 20 on head and neck, went to the beautiful bay filly RDS Exquisite (Excalibur EA x Angelica KS), bred by Eiad and Amira Safady from the etherlands and owned by Al Orasia Stud from Bahrain. A real eyecatcher with lots of size and attitude. I was also very impressed by the second place Luzia (Calypso OS x Fer Lisaline), bred and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud from Switerland. She is a very refined grey filly, which is really showy and has a great tail carriage. That she can also move appears from the fact that

she won the award for best movement of the class. ROE Caramella TRF (Falah Al Shaqab x ROE Ameera), bred and owned by E. Whitlow from the United Kingdom, is a stretchy mover and it was because of her marks on movement that she won the ex aequo ranking from the classical, showy beauty Daliria J (Excalibur EA x Dalia J), bred and owned by Jadem Arabians from Belgium. It was Olympia O (Magic Magnifique x GM Marwan Al Shakira), bred and owned by Sweden Arabian Stud from Sweden that closed the top 5. The second class of the day was the class of yearling fillies group B. Eight entries in this class of which six competed only International, one both ational and International and one ational only. Bourhani Bellavera (RFI Farid x Bourhani Fadissima), bred and owned by Bourhani Arabians from Germany, rightly so took the first place in the International ranking and won the award for best movement of the class. chestnut color. Almarie EA (Emerald J x BTS Lily May), bred by Esperanza Arabians from the USA and owned by esma Stud from Saudi Arabia, ended as second, a very appealing bay filly. Mouna DA is a very expressive bay daughter of aseem Al Rashediah out of Mystica Maghi, who trotted to the third place for her breeder and owner Danubius Arabians from Romania. BA oya (Magic Magnifique x Magic adima), bred and owned by Bembom Arabians from the etherlands, also moved really nicely and was placed fourth. The grey Ab’shrouk (ES Sarab x Mahriah), bred by Mrs. J. Kennedy & Ms. E. Maxwell from the United Kingdom and owned by Abdulla Al Sulaiti from Qatar made the top five of the International ranking of the class complete. For the ational show the first place went to another expressive moving aseem Al Rashediah daughter, the grey Forelock’s Yvy Rose (out of Forelock’s Ynicon), bred and owned by Forelock’s Arabians from the etherlands, who cleary enjoyed the showing off. The

International fourth placed BA oya was placed second in the ational show. Six out of seven entries showed up in the class of two year old fillies group A, of which five participated for the International show and two for the ational show only. Here it was the very refined chestnut Inayah RC (RFI Farid x Inspired Princess atalia), bred the Royal Cavalry of Oman and owned by the combination Falcon Arabians and Ulrichsdal Arabians from Denmark, that took the first place with a score of 91. 44 and the award for best movement of the class. Another pretty chestnut, the very show D June (FA El Rasheem x Maryse OS), bred by Dubai Stud and owned by Afifi Arabians from Israel placed second, followed by Kithara KA (WH Justice x Kinshasa JA) bred and owned by Knocke Arabians from Belgium. Sedonaa (Santorini x Petraa), bred and owned by A. P. Cozens from the United Kingdom closed the ranking for the International show. In
the ational show the first place went to the beautiful Silver Starlight BJ (Master Design GA x Silver Martina BJ), bred by Mr. & Mrs. Jones of Bychan Arabians from the United Kingdom and owned by Forelock’s Arabians. An already quite matured grey filly in size, with strong movements and a good stand up. She was followed by Missoula J (RFI Farid x Maja J), bred by Jadem Arabians and owned by W. Hermans from the etherlands. In the class oftwo year old fillies group B there were six out of seven entries, with four horses participating for the International show and two horses participating for the ational Show. It was the stunning grey mare Amaltea Regalis (Vivaldi Regalis x Grisabeel Chandra), bred by Regalis Arabians from Italy and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, that won the class with a wonderful two times 20 for type. She really honors her name, she is a regal mare! Alexandra RC (FA El Rasheem x Amabelle), bred and

owned by the Royal Cavalry of Oman, however followed closely, also with two times 20 on type. To me she was a real eyecatcher, a bay mare ofan outstanding beauty and quality that almost took the win. Maliha RC (RFI Farid x Marwanat Alapeyat), bred by the Royal Cavalry of Oman and owned by the combination Falcon Arabians and Ulrichsdal Arabians, was placed third and this pretty bay also won the award for best movement of the class. The ranking for the International show was completed with Juliana MR (Shanghai EA x HA Justivah), bred and owned by M. Reuschel from Germany, on the fourth place. The first place in the ational show went to MT Morning Rose T (Elle arcisse x Rohara Morning Glory A), bred by Tingshagen & Tara Arabians from Sweden and owned by Ms. F. Cornet from the etherlands. A petite bay filly with a great neck and beautiful stand up. Second placed was the refined and high legged KA Emina (Wadee Al Shaqab x Ema), bred and owned by Koo Arabians from the etherlands. When

gaining more self-confidence, this young filly, with a good front, will undoubtedly do better next time. Five out of six entries in the class of three year old fillies group A, in which three horses participated in the International show and two horses in both the International and ational show. It was a class with five shades of grey. The first place, as well as the award for best movement of the class, went tot Duchess Amaiyaa DMC (Aja Angelo x Amaliaa), bred and owned by Arabians Imperial from the United Kingdom. A grey mare of outstanding beauty, that was here to defend her title that she won last year at the Arabian Horse Weekend 2019. Shanmark GK (Shanghai EA x H Embark H), bred by Kessem Boaron from Israel and owned by Al Thumama Stud from Qatar, is a very feminine filly who made it a worthy competition against the number one. IEA Yemaya (LB Genesis x Yusriyyah), bred and owned by Idol’s Eye Arabians from the etherlands, had won the

Bronze Medal Junior Fillies at the Elran Cup earlier this season. This pretty filly was a bit impressed by the surroundings but nevertheless took a well-deserved third place. The bright white Zgold Jadore (Frisbee Settimocielo x GS Lloret de Mar), bred by F. Zingales from Italy and owned by Brugman Arabians from Belgium, had the fourth place right in front of Kizbe Bernadette (Excalibur EA x Helena), bred and owned by Karin Zeevenhoven from the etherlands who completed the International ranking as fifth. An impressive filly with good stand up, who’s movement was a bit lacking unfortunately. In the ational show the ranking was IEA Yemaya on the first place with Kizbe Bernadette on the second. The five fillies that entered the arena for the class of three year old fillies were all competing only for the International show. The Elran Cup 2020 winner AJ Tiran (AJ Mardan x Amyra bint Khidar), bred by Ajman Stud and owned by
Hanaya Arabian Stud is a white beauty, with size and an impressive front. She was placed first with a 20 for type and also the award for best movement of the class. The second placed bay mare Waleyah (Emerald J x Walena), bred and owned by Husted Arabians from Denmark, moved a bit flat but really made up in her beautiful stand up. The in my eyes really striking mare Hypatia ZB (Santorini x Helena), bred by Mr. B. & Mrs. Z Bermingham from the United Kingdom and owned by Mrs. E. Clare & Mrs. A. Harris from the United Kingdom, was placed third which in my opinion could have been higher. Safiah RC (SMA Magic One x EKS Shakira) bred by the Royal Cavalry of Oman and owned by the combination Falcon Arabians and Ulrichsdal Arabians was placed fourth and the ranking was closed by Saharaa icefora (Sabea Al Sahraa x VS efertari), bred by G. ended with the championship for junior fillies of the ational C Show. The ational gold medal went to the bay beauty MT Morning Rose T, followed by IEA Yemaya with a silver medal and Silver Starlight BJ gaining the bronze. After this championship there was a break with a lavish lunch as we are used to from Ine Stoop and her team. After the break it were five out of the six entries that were present in the class of filly foals including championship. Two foals were competing only in the International show, two foals both International and ational and one only ational. The outstanding mover CBA Mona Lisa (Excalibur EA x Maharani CF), bred and owned by Clause Bouche of Bouche Arabians from Germany, won the first place with four times (!) 20 for type and three times 20 for movement. This filly, that we also know as the Elran Cup 2020 winner, really is a stunner and with a first place in her class and the award for best movement of the class, she

again won the gold medal in the filly foal championship! Second placed with a silver medal was the chestnut Alamara (Ali Khan x Musica), bred and owned by Paula Bรถhmer from the etherlands. A refined filly from rare classical Russian bloodlines, with a good Arabian type. As third another Ali Khan daughter was to line up, the chestnut Jayali Bahirah D (out of Julia di Mar), bred and owned by Dede Kpabitey from the etherlands, who really showed the best ofherself. Jamilah (Maher Al Shahania x arnia), bred by J. van ispen tot Pannerden from Belgium and owned by G. Vandendwije from Belgium closed the ranking for the International show. In the ational show the filly foal class including championship was won by Alamara with the gold medal, followed by Jayali Bahirah D with the silver medal and the Straight Egyptian Kiwi Al Sham (Ezz Al Rashediah x Kinda Al Sham), bred and owned by Mahmoud Anzarouti of Sham Stables from the etherlands, as third with the bronze medal.

The following class was that of the colt foals including championship, in which not less than ten foals participated. Two foals participated only in the International show, five participated both International and ational and three participated ational only. I don’t know ifI can make an objective assessment ofthis class, as I was participating myself, but I’ll do each horse honest as much as possible! The class was won by my own bred colt Vidar Al Sahidi (Ali Khan x Valeta F), with a score of 93. 13, containing one 20 for type and four times 20 for movement. He therewith won the award for best movement of the class as well as the gold medal in the championship. I knew how he could show at home, but how he presented himself in the arena was beyond all expectations and I was really pleased with his attitude and performance. The second placed foal with the silver medal was the great Salvador d’Ali (Ali Khan x ASE Sayuri), bred and owned by Paula Böhmer. A grey colt that has a regal appearance
and arrogant look, also moving very well awarded with two times 20. CB Galaxy (Excalibur EA x Gypsy Love A), bred and owned by Brugman Arabians, was already a mere matured colt with a very macho attitude. A great performer that we also saw before this season at the Elran Cup 2020, now gaining the bronze medal. A nice side note is that his breeder and owner, Claudia Brugman, is the registered breeder of Ali Khan, the sire of the gold and silver medal winner in this class! The well build afiesa Mazeed (Emerald J x afiesa Malika), bred and owned by afiesa Arabians from the etherlands, took the fourth place in the International show, with Cy-Kanz DM (Kanz Albidayer x Cymenka), bred and owned by D. Meijerman from the etherlands, closing the International ranking. In the ational championship it was again my colt Vidar Al Sahidi that took the gold medal, followed by Salvador d’Ali with the silver medal and afiesa Mazeed taking the bronze. It was the colt foal Mandoub Al Sham that in the end got this honor on its name. After the foals the classes for senior mares commenced, starting with the class for mares of four to six years old. Twelve out ofthe thirteen entries entered the arena, ofwhich six only competed in the International show, two participated both International and ational and four participated only ational. The first place went to the very elegant and good moving grey mare Caza Al Soor (AJ Fawaz x TCR Rain Dancer), bred and owned by Al Soor

With four time 20 on type, the white pearl Bianca AL (Halyr Meia Lua x Giuliana El Shawan), bred by Agropec Leopodina Ltda from Brazil and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, closely approached the first place ofthe class and with minimal difference in points placed second. The mare Diyannaa (ZT Marwteyn x Diya Forx), bred by Psynergy Enterprise Developments LLC from the USA and owned by esma Stud placed third, also with a score ofover 91! Brazilian ational Silver Champion mare RFI Sensation (Jazeer de Wiec x RFI Sophie Al Maktub), bred by Santo Antonio da Bela Vista and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud, placed fourth in this though class, with the grey Maya AS (Marwan Al Shaqab x Majalina), bred by Arabian Soul Partners from the USA and owned by De Cartherey Arabians from France, closing the ranks ofthe International show and therewith also the scores over 90). the ational show was led by the bay beauty Majeeda KA (Mikado KA x Magnums Tulip), bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Bembom Arabians, winning with a score of 89. 75. Maybelle CJ (Psytadel x SA atsarah), bred by James Swaenepoel from Belgium and owned by H. ooijen from the etherlands, followed as second with a minimal difference of0. 19 points and the feminine Bent El Shahmaan (Om El Shahmaan x Euphoria), also bred by James Swaenepoel and owned by Koo Arabians, with her expressive big black eyes ended third in this ational class. There were seven entries in the class of seven to nine year old mares, in which two horses participated International

The grey Malayzia Tatur (Solaz J x Al Ghalia), bred by Hajerat asser from Isarael and owned by Tatur asser from Israel, conquered the first place with a score of 92. 19. The in my eyes star ofthe class was the bay moving machine Potentilla (Ekstern x Panonia), bred by Janow Podlaski Stud from Poland and owned by Hanaya Arabian Stud. If the odd 19 besides three times 20 for movement would have been different she definitely would have had an ex aequo ranking! evertheless she won the award for best movement of the class. Also with a 20 for movement, it was another Polish mover named Metallica KA (QR Marc x Margotka) bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Bembom Arabians, that placed herselfas third. She is a quality bay mare with lots of expression! The exotic grey Cadanz Delayla (Shanghai EA x Cadanz Djamilah) bred and owned by Cadanz Arabians from the etherlands, was allowed to line up as fourth, with

from Italy and owned by the Royal Cavalry of Oman, won the class and also the award for best movement ofthe class. This mare has a great Arabian expression with beautiful big eyes and a good shaped jaw, which also appeared from two times 20 and two times 19. 5 for type. ROE Lulwa (Marwan Al Shaqab x ZT Ludjbrosiaa), bred and owned by Round Oak Stud from the United Kingdom, had a real charming entrance during the presentation round, but lacked a bit of expression in her individual round, which resulted in a second place. The very feminine Floressah W (Bishr x Felesta W), bred by Mr. Blaak from the etherlands and owned by Bembom Arabians, placed third, but was allowed to write the first place ofthe ational show on her name. The class for veteran mares of fifteen years and older had only one of the two entries present, as a result of which the classic beauty Manilah (Radames II x Marischka), bred by Schmidt from Germany and owned by Arabian Stud Europe

(Excalibur EA x Stellaris BPA) owner: Eiad and Amira Safady Sunday August 23 The Sunday started early at 8.30 am with the International and ational C show class of junior geldings. A good filled class with eight geldings, of which five participated International only, two participated both International and ational and one participated ational only. The first place went to the very showy, expressive Djahill de Croissart (Luigi x Circé de Croissart), bred by Hars de Croissart from Belgium and owned by I. Piens from Belgium. A beautiful chestnut with light-footed, good movements, he also won the award for best movement ofthe class. The second place went to bay tyrant Emerald Jones (Emerald J x V Exotic Enchantress) bred and owned by Mr. & Mrs. Jones of Bychan Arabians, a very impressive horse. The chestnut gelding Ezra (Bourhani Aldebaran x Haniyyah), half-brother to world champion Admiraal (by Emerald J), bred by Mr. & Mrs. Jones ofBychan Arabians and owned by Mrs. J. Givens
from the United Kingdom, is an attractive gelding that was placed third and really resembles his father, especially in front, head and neck. The slender Cadanz Ghazal (Shiraz de Lafon x Cadanz Djamilah), bred and owned by Cadanz Arabians, was very impressed by everything he saw, including his own shadow, as a result of which he did not express himself as we are used of him. He therefore ended fourth with nevertheless a decent score. The very big Videl PKA (Psytadel x Villina VF), bred and owned by Petra Mulder of PeKa Arabians from the etherlands, is a very well build and balanced horse, that still was a bit nervous in the ring but already improved since last time and rightly so gained its place within the top 5 of this International show. The classes for junior colts were closed with the championship for junior colts of the ational C Show and with a unanimous vote it was the beautiful KA Khalua that won the gold medal, followed by Sinbad Al Bahar with the silver medal and Ace Venture ending as third with the bronze medal. After this championship there was a lunchbreak, in which famous Dutch dressage rider Laurens van Lieren gave a clinic with his grand prix horse. The afternoon continued with the classes for senior stallions and the class offour to six year old stallions was a nice, full class with 9 participants. Six horses participated only International, one participated both International and ational and two participated ational only. The first place in this class was for the wonderful Ali Khan (Cavalli x Althea), bred by Brugman Arabians and owned by Paula Böhmer. A chestnut with the greatest attitude, expressive looks, good type and tons of charisma. He really stole the
show and rightly so was placed first. ice side note is that this stallion had four offspring competing at this show, who all four ended up with one or more medals. He was followed by Hagras Al Shaqab (Fadi Al Shaqab x Wind Kamelia), bred and owned by Al Shaqab Stud from Qatar, also a pretty chestnut that in type and head and neck just had to let Ali Khan go first. BS Karanji (AJ Mardan x Kadira), bred and owned by Brigitte Sprave from Germany, had an ex aequo ranking with Hagras Al Shaqab. This stallion looked magnificent: he was in great condition, really showed a good synergy with his handler and moved with strong passes, which was awarded with one 20 for movement and the award for the best mover of the class. CBA Matheus (Fadi Al Shaqab x Maharani CF), bred and owned by Claus Bouche of Bouche Arabians, is a very complete horse but could not match the performance ofhis halfsister in the filly foals and had to agree on a fourth place. The bay VDB Kanz’anova (Kanz Albidayer x VDB Ma’ra Gold), bred and

(Excalibur EA x Maharani CF) owner: Clause Bouche of Bouche Arabians owned by VDB Arabians from Belgium, took a win on type in the ex aequo ranking with number six and therefore was able to close the ranks as fifth. The ranking for the ational show also had Ali Khan on the first place, with the second place being in the name ofRene’s Dakharat (Amir Ashirafx Bahiyaa), bred and owned by atascha Bojawal from the etherlands. This well developing grey shows great progress over the years with obviously the strong movements of his dam and the expressive attitude of his sire being present. Shadowfax (SMA Magic One x Chiara K), bred by Al Thani from Belgium and owned by Shakova Arabians from the etherlands, made the line up in the ational show complete as third. For the next two classes of senior stallions, it is worth it to mention that in total sixteen times a score for movement was to be given by the judges and fifteen ofthe sixteen times this score was a 20! This shows that the stallions from earlier

days still can compete with the younger generations, even if their type may be more classic and their heads are less dished! In the class of seven to fifteen year old stallions there were three stallions competing, of which one was competing only International, one was competing both International and ational and one was competing ational only. BB Escondhio (Amalfi x FA Jada), bred by Double B Arabians from the etherlands and owned by F&M Arabians from the etherlands, had his comeback in the showring after a few years and what a comeback it was. Together with his handler Isa van der Sluis he rocked the ring, with a beautiful score of 92 containing four times 20 for movement. This made that he also won the award for best movement of the class. Bernhard (Rohara Bacara x Tosca), bred by L. A. Stranges from Sweden and owned by Abdullah Al Anizi from Kuwait, closely followed but this grey guy had to settle for
Special Trophies Best Straight Egyptian Foal
Mandoub Al Sham
(Ezz Al Rashediah x Mervat Al Sham) owner: Sham Stables the second place. In the ational show the ranking also had BB Escondhio on the first place, followed by moving miracle Yanour Hayati (JK Catalyst x Yentl), bred and owned by Yildiz Arabians from the etherlands, a stallion that never disappoints when it comes to movement, also now putting a four times 20 on his name. The last class of veteran stallions of sixteen years and older had only one participant, participating in the International show only. Rohara Bacara (Padrons Psyche x Sidia), a nineteen year old senior bred by Rohara Arabians from the USA and owned by Falcon Arabians from Denmark, showed his style, his beauty and his wonderful movements, by setting a score of92. 56 with also four times 20 for movement. What a joy it is to watch this stallion! With all halter classes done, the championship for senior stallions of the ational C Show happened, with Ali Khan
being a unanimous gold medal winner, followed by BB Escondhio with the silver medal and Rene’s Dhakarat conquering the bronze. This championship was followed by the award for Best Dutch Arabian Horse ofthe weekend, which award was won by my colt foal Vidar Al Sahidi, who with a score of 93. 13 had the highest total points of the Dutch registered horses competing International and/or ational. And beyond all my expectations, Vidar Al Sahidi was also crowned Best in Show of the ational C Show by the judges, maybe also because ofthe fact that he again showed like a rock star and became the crowd’s favorite during the lineup of all gold medal champions. After rounding up the ational C Show, the championships of the International C Show took place, starting with the championship for geldings. The unanimous gold champion

was the expressive Djahill de Croissart, followed by the imposing Ero’s RoleXx with the silver medal for the etherlands and the bronze Amjad Al Adeyat. The following championship of yearling fillies was rightly so won by the extreme beauty RDS Exquisite, with the elegant Luzia gaining the silver medal and Almarie EA winning the bronze medal for esma Stud. In the junior fillies championship AJ Tiran put the gold medal on her name for Switzerland, with Alexandra RC taking the silver medal to the Sultanate of Oman. 2019’s Gold medal winner Duchess Amaiyaa DMC had to settle for the bronze medal this year. In the championship for junior colts it was a battle between horses, handlers and supporters, when under loud applause RDS Armani eventually took the gold medal, with the refined Murana’s ader taking the silver medal to Jadem Arabians and Tuareg AA winning the bronze medal for Hanaya Arabian Stud. Hanaya Arabian Stud then won the gold

medal in the championship for junior colts, when EKS Sirajj was unanimously was crowned gold champion, followed by TFK Mansoor as silver medal champion and Hamza Samjad winning the bronze medal for Lebanon. The last two championships were the senior mares and senior stallions, with Bianca AL winning the gold medal in the championship for senior mares, Astrea Del infeo taking the silver and – the in my eyes favorite – Caza Al Soor settling for bronze. In the championship for senior stallions it was again Ali Khan who, to the joy of his owner Paula Böhmer was crowned gold medal champion, with Hagras Al Shaqab taking the silver medal home to Qatar and BB Escondhio bringing tears ofjoy to his handler when winning the bronze medal. There were still three special trophies to be awarded and the first was the Best Movement Trophy for the horse with the
highest points for movement during both days and, in case of a tie, with highest points on legs as a decisive result. This prestigious trophy was won by BB Escondhio, after which one really can speak ofa proper come back to the show ring ofthis senior stallion, winning so many trophies in one day. The trophy for Best Head was awarded to the pretty CBA Mona Lisa, being the horse with the highest points for head over the days and her breeder and owner Claus Bouche of Bouche Arabians was also awarded the Best Breeder/Owner award, since his filly foal had the highest points over the days while still being owned by her breeder. As showstopper, the judges had to crown the Best in Show of the International C Show from all the gold medal champions, and this greatest honor went to the beautiful RDS Exquisite, a glorious filly that I have seen as a newborn foal and by then was already awed by her looks. This was
also the fifth Best in Show title at the Arabian Horse Weekend for handler Philippe Hosay, who therefore will be again on the Wall ofFame with a horse next year. An exciting Arabian horse event came to an end. A show to which so many looked forward, a show of which we all feared it would not go on in these bizarre days of the COVID-19 pandamic, but which show was again perfectly organized and put together by the Stoop family! I think I speak on behalf of everyone who was present this weekend, being all sponsors, owners, trainers, handlers and spectators, as well as the 45. 000 viewers worldwide that watched the livestream of Arabian Essence, when I say THA K YOU to Annelieke, Ine, Pieter and Ralf, for taking all your time and efforts to organize this show! I hope to see you all back at the Arabian Horse Weekend 2021, hopefully in a different, less stressful world! Until then, stay safe and healthy and enjoy the Arabian horse!

SHOWS AND EVENTS
I
n previous years, the Stoop Family organized the Arabian Horse Weekend in the month of May in the small village St. -Oedenrode, in the etherlands. This event included a C- ational and a C-International Show, as well as one of the annual Aljassimya Amateur Shows. This year all showorganisers suffered to comply to governmental rules and regulations, due to Covid, and many shows had been cancelled. The team ofAnnelieke, Ine and Pieter Stoop insisted on doing what had to be done. Their ational and International Show was shifted to the third weekend of August and the Aljassimya Amateur Show was shifted to the third Sunday in September. This time, the show was held in a joint venture of the International DAWRA Show, which was held on Saturday 19th of September and the Aljassimya Amateur Challenge Holland was scheduled the day after. The competitions had were organized at the Ruitersportcentrum Het Keelven in Someren. A recently constructed new facility located in an agriculture area, but with access to the “Peel, a natural reserve with lots of riding possibilities. Absolutely a place were you can have a horsy weekend arrangement to get
away from the busy city life. Big riding arena, spacious parking area, several arena and airy stables. The prospect for a bigger event, for sure. The excellent and affordable Brasserie did complete the picture. On Saturday, the Dutch Arabian Western Riding Association ( DAWRA ) had their International Show. Abundance of riding competition, with a lot of participants. Amongst them the 2020 European Champion Western Pleasure, Canisia Romani with Ashraf al Shams. The etherlands have a long standing tradition of Western Riding, especially with Arabian Horses, and due to the increasing support of ECAHO and their sponsors the level of competition has increased tremendously. The Aljassimya Challenges provide an additional platform of competitions for those planning to start. So far only ovice level is offered. But indeed, you have to start at the bottom. The Aljassimya Amateur Challenge Holland, on Sunday, had two sections. The Show classes were scheduled before noon and the Sport competitions were to continue in the afternoon. For this year only, due to the virus, it was agreed www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 109
to invite only 2 judges for the Show Classes. Mr. Gideon Reisel from the etherlands and Ms. Eline Raes from Belgium took on the task to mark the horses, handling, harmony and presentation as they did in previous events. Ringmaster was Ms. Ils van Dun and Mr. Bart Beckers was DC, both from Belgium. In the show classes over 25 horses were entered in the 3 levels. Additionally there was a foal class. The last combination that was presenting themselves before the lunchbreak took the title of Best ovice. It was the grey mare Gandahara and her young handler Servaz Heijmans. Gandahara is out ofPolish lines by Pegasus out ofGeorgia, bred by Michalow Stud and now owned by the Fam. Heijmans in the etherlands. The combination gathered a score of 592 points, including a 100 for harmony, the 110 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
essence of Challenge, under the Patronage of Aljassimya Farm, Qatar. Silver went to Ms. Sharony Lufting with the Forelock’s owned mare MDR Tavishah, a Kanz Albidayer daughter. In this section Bronze Medal was obtained by Mr. Thierry Oldenburg. Thierry presented the black Wadee Al Shaqab colt Kashmir, bred by Paul Gheysens from Knocke Arabians in Belgium. Also in the Amateur level the combination of the handler and a senior mare took the title of Best Amateur. Here we saw the 10-year old chestnut AF Tryoshka and her handler Mrs. Kim de Bloeme, a combination that nearly dominated all classes they participated in the afternoon. Pretty, versatile and nicely presented… that’s what the concept is all about. Af Tryoshka obtained a score of 584. The mare is bred in the etherlands by Arabian Fantasie and now
owned by her handler Kim. She was sired by the adir I son, AF Umoyo out of Wushika Monpelou. A strong Russian pedigree, as often seen in the etherlands. Silver in this group was Ms. Kaylee Roele with the gleding Elazar STC. Remco Bleijndaal obtained the Bronze Medal with this gelding ASE Bailando.
Forelock's Yinx took the Gold Medal in the championship Experienced Amateur. The Silver Medal was for the Straight Egyptian senior stallion Mansour KS presented by Ralf Hesen. RalfHesen took also the Bronze Medal together with PA Vittoria Dancer. Vittoria is owned by Denise van Gils and is the mother ofthe Gold Medal Foals DG Vinyx.
The highest score of the morning was given to Forelock’s Yinx, a 4-year old mare, competing with her handler Ruth Walburg in the Senior Mares at the Experienced Amateurs level. This great moving chestnut gave us goose bumps with her outstanding trot and obtained excellent scores in all categories. As often the mark of Forelock’s breeding program, located in the etherlands, is clearly visible. Yinx is by the Ajman Moniscione son, FS Reflection out of Forelock’s Yessy, a Champion mare herselfby Psytadel.
Interesting to see was the small foal class, especially the handlers. Amongst them we welcomed Fenne Koppenol and Joyce van den Berg, both International Endurance riders from the etherlands. Fenne competed in several ridden competitions on both days this weekend. Joyce presented her filly Di’Farah, clearly an endurance bred pedigree. Her bay filly was sired by the Castlebar Gulfstream son Dayway Stream Bliss out Eau Divine by Akim de Ducor. ot a common pedigree in our show arenas, but at least the ladies www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 111
had fun and that is part ofthe game. The victory ofthis class went to DG Vinyx, a bay filly, bred by professional trainer Denise van Gils and now owned by Ms. Franca Kerssens from the etherlands. Her pedigree traces back to Excalibur EA and the Varian stallion Sundance Kid V. The filly’s sire is Madagaskar J. The Silver Medal went to the colt foal Zamazenta S, bred and owned by E. Sterken and presented by Samantha Maynard. The Bronze Medal was for the colt foal Forelock's Renaissance, bred and owned by Forelock's Arabians and presented by Sharony Lufting. As agreed with the AJF team, foal classes are not included in the Challenge. evertheless it was a good opportunity to get those youngsters out and get some experience. During the lunchbreak the local support team prepared the obstacles for the Trail Competition. Once approved by the 112 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
judge, the participants were guided through the patterns of the day by Judge Ms. Paulette Zorn. Judges’ administrator was Ms. Carmen Brink, both from the etherlands and with a lot of experience, especially in the Western Riding Competitions. The competition that afternoon started with the In-Hand Trail. Over 10 combinations entered, 9 came forward, all placed. Clear victory and therefore the Gold for organizer Mrs. Annelieke Stoop with her mare Queen Hagelkruis H. , with 71. 5 points. Close second and Silver went to the earlier mentioned Mrs. Kim de Bloeme and her mare AF Tryoshka with 70 points . Bronze was for Ms. Tiyomi ten Brink and Forelocks’ Vermilion. This combination gathered 69 points. Clearly a huge progression compared to the first Trail Competitions a couple ofyears ago. Several participants are

seriously training for this kind of groundwork. Very educational for young horses and their handlers, it obviously creates a bond between you and you equine partner. Another victory for Mrs. Kim de Bloeme and her mare AF Tryoshka in the Trail Ridden Competition. 6 Combinations competing, unfortunately 3 participants received DQ’s for not completing the obstacles correctly. Silver went to Ms. Zoe Bols from Belgium with her fleabitten gelding adirr. Bronze this edition for Mr. Sebastian Volker and his bay stallion Palermo. Bred by Klarenbeek Arabians, in the etherlands, this expressive stallion is linebred to the Champions Gazal Al Shaqab and Marajj. Clearly this was not going to be the only “Award” today for this nice tempered stallion.
In Hunter Pleasure Senior, the Gold was once again for AF Tryoshka and Kim in a class which had a well ridden performance from most competitors. We saw 11 combinations in the ring. Quiet and impressive, Mrs. Anouk Daris took Silver with the Partbred Gipsy Queen Hagelkruis H. Bronze this time for Ms. Chantal Schilperoort and her grey mare MT Marjorie, a QR Marc granddaughter, bred in the etherlands. Western Pleasure Junior Class had only 3 participants. Palermo and Sebastian took Gold. The bay Jawaher Ghazy and Ms, Zoë Bols took Silver for Kuwaiti breeder and owner Al Jawaher Stud. The stallion is by Kahil Al Shaqab out ofan Ekstern daughter. Third place went to the young Ms. Hanna Antonissen ofthe Murillo Team with their homebred mare MJ Morania. This bay mare is by the QR Mar son Morowan KA. www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 113
The Classic Pleasure was split into a Junior and 2 Senior groups, depending on the age ofthe performing horses. Five combinations in the Senior group I were the first place went to Ms. Anouk Daris and Gipsy Queen Hagelkruis H. Second place this time for rider Mrs. Anne-Laure Kwaspen with the Partbred Shatt el Dijala. AF Tryoshka and Kim had to settle this time with third position in this class. The Second Group II had 7 participants. First place went to Ilona Bax and Emirzo, a gelding by Enzo out of the Laheeb daughter Emira. The horse is bred by Michalow Stud and now proudly owned by Mrs. Helen Hennekes – van es. The long maned grey AR Sinan, who we saw more often in ridden competition in the past, ranked second for his rider Mrs. Jeanette de Bruin. Third place went to the Janow Podlaski bred Postar, owned and ridden by Lisa-Marie Heckenbücker from Germany, a combination that we have welcomed 114 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
several times in the Aljassimya Amateur Challenges. The Championship battle between the top contenders ofboth Classic Pleasure Senior classes was won by Anouk and Gipsy Queen. AR Sinan and Jeanette took Silver and Ilona and Emirzo received the Bronze. Thereafter we had 3 combinations in the Western Pleasure Senior. Another Gold for Annelieke and Gipsy Queen. Silver once again for Zoë and adirr. Bronze was achieved by Mr. Juan Murillo for owner Flaxman Arabians, Belgium with the chestnut stallion Jeryan Aljassimya, bred by Sheikh Jassim, Qatar. Classic Pleasure Junior had 4 participants. Here the victory went to Belgium with FA Olympus, a grey gelding, bred and
owned by Flaxman Arabians and with a mainly Golden Cross pedigree with a touch of Polish. The horse was nicely ridden by Ms. Ilona Bax from the etherlands. The Partbred ena van de Beekerheide took Silver with Ms. Sema Lintsen. The stallion Palermo had to settle this time with Bronze, this time ridden by Sebastiaans’ spouse Mrs. Chantal Schilperoort. The last competition of the day was the Hunter Pleasure Junior. This time Gold for Palermo and Chantal, it was a very successful weekend for the stallion with both his riders/owners Chantal and Sebastiaan with time for a family picture too. Silver went to Kuwait for Jawaher Ghazy and Ms. Zoë Bols and Bronze this time for Ilona Bax and FA Olympus. Taken the restrictions of the “virus” into account, this years’ edition ofthe Aljassimya Amateur Challenge Holland was a big success. Great atmosphere amongst competitors. The excellent organizing team with the help ofa good group
of volunteers brought this weekend to a success. The cooperation with DAWRA brought some newcomers to the Amateur Challenge. This was unfortunately the last competition ofthis year. Out ofthe originally 20 Aljassimya Amateur Challenges planned only 5 took place for well-known reasons. ot much we can do than hope this pandemic will soon come to its end and we can be free to travel and compete without the limitations we had recently. Enough sad words have been written about this issue. Only few people got the chance to compete this year. As Aljassimya stands for fairness in competition, the responsible team might need to take some decisions to see how we shall proceed with their annual “invitation to the World Championships or even the final Draw”. Our hands are tied and movements are limited. However we will make the best out ofit. More news to follow… A year lost is not a life lost. www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 115

T
he distinctive rules for the Amateur Challenge were created in Belgium in 2014 for the European Amateur Cup - a show which averaged 100 entries in the last five years - more than many C shows in the current European Arabian show scene. Three of the four people currently on the Amateur Challenge Committee were involved in creating the ideas behind, as well as the organisation of this first event Rob Rens, Ronny Vosch and Ilse Verbruggen. They have been joined by me, Emma Maxwell after they asked for, and were given, sponsorship from one ofQatar’s most ambitious studs - Aljassimya Farm for whom I am the publicist. It’s not often that a great idea and a very generous sponsorship are matched up so well. With the continued enthusiasm of our patron Sheikh Jassim Bin Khalifa Al Thani and a dedicated Committee the idea started a slow expansion across Europe.
Mission number one was to create shows where people can compete with their own or a borrowed Arabian horse and feel safe, be given encouragement and have a fun day out. The in hand division is divided into three levels - ovice for the genuinely beginners, Amateur for C show winners and Amateur Experienced for those with several wins under their belt. This way complete beginners have the time and space to enter the arena without feeling out ofplace amongst more experienced peers. Of equal billing to Mission 1 is Mission 2 - to promote a style of showing Arabians that owners of other breeds of
horses - and the vast majority of Arabian owners can agree is respectful of the horse. As well as the normal five topics of in hand judging Type - Head and eck - Body - Legs Movement there are two more categories. Points are also given for the accurate presentation of the horse: standing still, walking in a straight line and trotting around the arena without breaking into canter or circling. Points are also given for the harmony of the horse and handler rewarding those partnerships which listen to each other and complete their show in unison. While those categories may appear to judge the handler… these points create an unusual effectan unintended consequence that is beneficial. In practice I can clearly see that the handler scores regularly reflect not just the ability of the handler but the character and amenability of the horse, with anxious, aggressive or impatient horses scoring lower than those which have realxed, balanced paces and a cheerful demeanour. When disposition is cited in every horse buying survey as the top requirement for new buyers, a judging system that rewards disposition is one that needs considering for the whole breed! The classes therefore appear halfway between a spots horse class and an Arabian show classes, with the horses expected to behave, rewarded for displaying regular, correct paces but also show good breed Type and some show charisma. We feel that in this way the handler makes the most of the good points ofthe Arabian horse !
www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 117
Thirdly, again in order to present the Arabian as a useful, rideable horse, any show which joins the Challenge must offer Pleasure and Trail classes. It is difficult to arrange ridden classes across Europe in the same style because traditions are so different, . But we use the ECAHO sports rules for three Pleasure classes (Classic, Hunter and Western) which follow an American showing model. They offer a very pleasant introduction to the show ground to a ovice horse or Rider and are quick and efficient for the judge and audience. It is a group class with no points awarded, in which you have to show the three paces - walk, trot and canter on each rein according to the judges instructions and complete a small rein back in the line up. You can use this class as a warm up for Dressage or other ridden classes that may be offered. We do allow 118 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
professional handlers who are not professional riders to take part and vice versa - pro riders are welcome to our in hand classes. Everyone is welcome to join our Trail classes which have been one of the biggest successes of the new system and have pulled in more and more people each year. Borrowed from Western competitions, the horse must negotiate six obstacles (like TREC obstacles) with maximum efficiency and obedience. It is entertaining to compete in, watch and at the same time teaches you and your horse all sorts of useful life skills. In Hand Trail is the most popular class at most European shows and is suitable for everyone aged 8 80 ! Ridden Trail is also offered.

BRUGES Arabian Horse Event text by Giorgia Mauri, photos by Alessio Azzali
On 5th and 6th September in Bruges - Belgium was held the Arabian horse event organized by Jurgen Lievrouw and Tim Dejonghe in the beautiful open air structure surrounded by the greenery of the Domein Tillegembos close to the renovated Kasteel van Tillegem which provides the perfect backdrop for a horse show. Tillegem Castle was inhabited by successive noble families until 1978. The provincial government of West Flanders purchased the castle in the early 1980s. To thoroughly restore it between 1985 and 1987. On the ground floor, the reception area, the Louis Louis XV staircase oak and the meeting rooms in the 18th-century lounges are reminders of past castle. The vast castle estate is surrounded by a park in the outskirts of Bruges. The city of Bruges is a Unesco world heritage site since 2000 and is visited by more than 8 million people a year. More than 50 of Flanders’ 470 castles are located in this city and its surroundings. Thanks to its large number of canals and bridges tourists can explore the city of Bruges by sailing along its canals, too. As a matter of fact Bruges is known as the Venice of the North, and it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe! It’s easy to understand why organizers chose this wonderful city as a new spot for a horse show. A show to promote Arabian
horses and at the same time enjoy the time. Arabian Horse Event offers not only a European show but also an International B-show. The whole event is totally immersed in a familiar atmosphere so people can feel comfortable and enjoy the shows from the classy VIP area or spend time in the playground set for the visitors’ kids - fun for everyone! Thanks to the Organizers and to the DC Mr. Beckers Bart and Mrs Van Eerten Vivian, to the Ringmaster Mr Gerard Oben. For the scores thanks to Arabian Horse Results. Thanks to the judges called to award the International & European Show Mrs. Michaela Weidner, Mr. Gideon Reisel, Mr. Manfred Hain, Mr. Koenraad Detailleur. sylwia ilenda P H O T O G A L L E R Y
Sylwia Iłenda, born in 1976 in Lublin, Poland. Graduate of the Visual Art School in Zamość Polish artist and photographer of Arabian horses. She grew up close to the picturesquely located Białka Stud. Since her early years she spent long hours on the pastures among mares and their foals. The childhood fascination with the beauty of the horse slowly started to turn into a great passion and love for these remarkable animals. Captivated by the postcards of Zofia Raczkowska and Marian Gadzalski, she decided to one day become a photographer as well. And she did. Since 19 years she has been professionally photographing Arabian horses. Apart from photography she also creates pastel drawings, with the horse being the main motif. She has had several exhibitions of her works at Arabian horse championships. The visual arts school taught her to notice and appreciate beauty and subtlety of colors that surround us. These skills are most helpful during photo sessions and give her images even more artistic values. Apart from outdoor photo sessions she is a regular at Polish and European Arabian horse shows. She has been invited to shows as an official photographer on many occasions. For 8 years she has been one of the accredited photographers of the World Championships in Paris. A co-creator of the catalogues for the Pride of Poland Sale and Radom Summer Sale. Her photographs are readily published in Poland and in international magazines dedicated to the Arabian horse, such as: Koń Polski, Araby Magazine, Świat Koni, Tutto Arabi, Arabian Horse World, Arabian Horse Times, Arabian Horse Spirit, Arabian Horse Magazine. In 2011 Białka Stud used her photographs to illustrate their 80th anniversary album. In her free time she paints horses. In the retreat of her workshop she creates portraits of the most outstanding and famous Arabian horses in the world. Her pastel drawings can be found in many private collections all over the world. The artist cannot imagine life without Arabian horses. Share this passion with her, following her artistic journey.

An Arabian horse and Spanish riding school? Interview with Anna Izdebska by Jolanta Gębka photos by Magdalena Grzybalska
Gniady, Arabic gelding ElBasim (Wachlarz - Elgda / Ganges) and its owner Anna Izdebska were one of the few couples in Poland representing the Dom Vaquera la garrocha Spanish riding style. Their shows graced numerous equestrian competitions. They also performed in a theatre and for the Prince of Bahrain himself! Doma Vaquera la garrocha is a Spanish riding style which was born on rough terrain. Vaquero means a horse shepherd for whom the ability to work calmly with cattle matters. Such work, however, required a highly trained horse that would follow rider’s instructions without any hesitation so that it can avoid the horns of a charging bull. Today, doma vaquera primarily stands for exciting shows. JG: Ania, in hindsight, taking into account all the put effort and made sacrifices, would you choose this style of riding again? AI: Definitely yes! Doma vaquera means finesse and harmony in working with a horse. It requires countless hours of training but also teaches the rider to feel the horse so that the aids given are as subtle as possible. In addition, there is a garrocha, a pole the rider holds in their hand, which in the very beginning is heavy and very uncomfortable to ride with. I still remember the pain in my sore wrists after the first training sessions. JG: The riding style you chose is quite unusual, but even more surprising is the fact that you trained on an Arabian horse. Where does this connection come from? AI: When ElBasim appeared in my life, I knew that our common path would be unusual. I wanted to do something no one had ever done before. I started doing some research www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 173
and came across doma vaquero and gave myself up to it. It was not easy. I often heard that it is impossible to achieve with an Arabian horse. Nevertheless, I decided to prove that it was possible, and Arabian horses, thanks to their delicacy, are great in this style. The strong foundations of doma vaquera are dressage, and I started training with Elbasim from it together with working with it on the ground. JG: Let’s go back for a moment to the beginning of your story, can you tell me how it happened that Elbasim got into your hands? AI: It’s a very simple story because it was exactly as they describe it in the books, i.e. it was love at first sight (laughs). I was visiting my friends at the stud farm in Kielnarowa. As I was walking around the pastures with many horses, suddenly large and sharp eyes appeared from behind a thick and dark mane, keeping a close eye on me. After a while, ElBasim proudly raised his head, tearing himself away from the grass, and his inward curved ears gave him an even more 174 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
oriental look. I immediately knew it would be mine. It was the beginning of our common but not always rose-coloured path. A journey during which this inconspicuous horse would prove to me how much I still had to learn. JG: What did your training sessions look like? AI: I could talk about it for hours because it was actually a time of my life. As I have already mentioned, in doma vaquera, a well-worn and well-drained horse is a must. Nothing can be neglected in this regard and shortcuts are not an option. Moreover, there is a pole, i.e. a garrocha, to which I had to desensitize Basim and learn to ride with it myself. Every time it slipped out of my hands, I had to get off my horse and pick it up hundreds of times. In doma vaquera, you ride with one hand. The reins are usually in the left hand and the right hand is on a pole or hip. Additionally, I had to learn how to ride using a bocado. It is a type of a bit similar to a curb bit. You work only with your fingers using the principle of micro-vibrations, and the rest is all about the mounting.
SPECIAL
JG: You mentioned that ElBasim was not an easy horse, did you have moments of doubt? AI: Doubts rather not, but I often felt tired, but it gave way to joy after another successful show. Everyone who has worked with an Arabian horse knows that they are peculiar. Their extraordinary intelligence and delicacy, on the one hand, help when working with them, but on the other, you can very quickly find out that you have just made a mistake. When working with an Arabian horse, intuition and the so-called timing are crucial, you need to know when to let go. Basim was a difficult horse, but he forgave a lot. In addition, during the shows he was 100% focused, I could trust him, even though things were different at home (laughs). JG: The shows were your second nature. I know there were two particularly special shows. Tell me about them. AI: It’s true, Basim and I both loved the shows. Basim always knew what he was there for and what to do. How? I have no idea. This is probably what makes Arabian horses unique. One of our most beautiful shows was definitely a theatre performance. The place itself was magical, and the lights, the audience and the music made us move back in time. However, I have to admit that the preparation for
this show cost us a lot of time. After all, I had to get Basim used to walking on boards! The second show, which, in turn, was surprising for us, took place during the International Competition in Horse Rallying in Zakrzów. It turned out to be a show for the Prince of Bahrain! I hadn’t heard anything about it before, but everything went according to plan, and ElBasim once again proved that I can rely on him. JG: What are your plans for the future now? AI: Do we have enough time? (laughs) Right now I am preparing my another horse for the shows. It is an Iberian horse - Duende, for whom I have high hopes. Duende surprises me positively at every turn. Doma vaquera is of course a part of my life, but I’m also starting my adventure with horse archery. There are still many plans to implement. I just wonder if maybe it would be possible to extend day time by a few hours? JG: Thank you very much for the conversation and sharing your story with us. I wish you more success while working with horses. AI: Thank you so much for the conversation and kind words. q

ARABIAN STUD EUROPE by Talitha Bakker ❚ photos Arabian Stud Europe archive
Arabian Stud Europe is a boutique breeding farm founded by Talitha Bakker. Created out of passion and love for the Arabian horse which she shares with her partner Louis Vulker. Together they run their farm in Winterswijk, The Netherlands. The breeding program started with three foundation mares; Manilah (Radamess II x Marischka), Dakaree (Dakar el Jamaal x Ultimate Fancy) and Geraldyne el Jamaal (Ali Jamaal x Gai Natascha). The goal is to breed beautiful Arabians that can win in the show ring but are also correct enough to participate in sport events like Cross country and endurance. Talitha also always’s keeps an eye on the pedigrees as they should have a perfect blend of classic and modern lines.
ASE Gabriella al Gazal (Gazal al Shaqab x Geraldyne el Jamaal)
Geraldyne el Jamaal (Ali Jamaal x Gai natascha)
Geraldyne el Jamaal Geraldyne is a 18 years old direct daughter of Ali Jamaal and comes out of the Gainey-bred mare Gai Natascha, who is by Bey Shah out of Gai Radiance, who is the full sister to Gai Radiant. Geraldyne is a very valuable broodmare for the farm but is also an enthusiastic endurance horse who is still competing in 100+ km endurance distances. She is currently in foal to Magic Magnifique for Peka Arabians and to D Angelo for Elizar Arabians. Both by embryo transfer. She is also expecting a foal by the young exotic stallion ASE
Juilliard (Da vinci FM) who will also be born through embryo transfer next year. Geraldyne gave many beautiful offspring. Two of which are owned by Al Jood stud in Qatar and two of which are still owned by Arabian Stud Europe. Last year, Geraldyne gave birth to a beautiful flashy BLACK son of WH Justice. This colt, ASE Justice el Jamaal, is very special and will be breeding his first mares next year, before entering the showring. “We were hoping for a good son of Geraldyne,” Talitha says. “That he came out Black was a total surprise of www.tuttoarabi.com - TUTTO ARABI | 189

which we are grateful for! We cannot wait to breed our best mares to him next season!” Justice el Jamaal is owned by Al Dawla Arabians, Australia but will stay in Europe for the next couple of years to fulfil his breeding obligations. ASE Gabriella al Gazal One of the daughter of Geraldyne is the beautiful big moving mare ASE Gabriella al Gazal, sired by Gazal al Shaqab. This mare is a true gem and for 2021 booked to the exotic Jyar Mei Lua. 190 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com
The other daughter the farm has from Geraldyne is a very elegant and pretty filly named ASE Genevieve el Marc by QR Marc. Dakaree Another foundation mare of Arabian Stud Europe, has been the mare Dakaree. This unbelievable pretty mare was by Dakar el Jamaal and out of WN Ultimate Fancy. She was sold to Al Shaqab stud in 2013. Her last filly, ASE Falaree by Fadi al Shaqab, was a treasured gift. This mare
STUD is successful in dressage, showjumping and cross country, has won many endurance competitions and also proved to be an amazing producer of show horses. She already has a fantastic ďŹ lly named ASE Faiana in 2019, who was sired by the ZT Magnanimus son, ASE MagniďŹ cent. For 2021, ASE Falaree is in foal to multi champion ASE Farhan by RFI Farid.
Manilah The mare Manilah has been the mare who started it all. Bought in 2006, Manilah has left the farm with some amazing offspring. At the age of 21, Manilah is still strong and vitale. She even successfully competed at the International Arabian Horse Weekend last summer where she not only won the best movement trophy with the veteran mares, but also

Manilah is a daughter of the Straight Egyptian stallion Radamess II (Salaa el Dine) and comes out of the Elite mare Marischka who is by Plakat and comes out of the treasured damline of Moheba II. Over the years, Manilah has been successful in the show jumping, cross country, endurance, won the 400m race at the age of 15 and was also successfully shown. at the Arabian Horse Weekend, but was also named Senior champion mare and Best in show! A few years later she was re-introduced to the showring, where she was Silver medal champion at the show in Zottegem, Belgium and was 2nd in a strong senior mare class at the International B-show in Lier, Belgium. Manilah left the farm many offspring. Her son, ASE Marajรณ (by Marajj) has won many competitions in endurance up
STUD to CEI 2* 120km level and also won many titles in the showring. At the moment, only one offspring of Manilah is still present at the farm. The young filly ASE Aaliyah Hlayyil by Hlayyil Ramadan. The best offspring Manilah had, unfortunately died earlier this year. Her name was ASE Bisiriya Hlayyil. ASE Bisiriya Hlayyil This mare has been amazing. Not only was she a top three winner at the internationale CEI 2* endurance race of 120km, she was also producing champion after champion until her untimely death early 2020, just days before her filly was ready to be born. Both of them where lost in the battle.
Bisiriya was loved by many. She was leased by Simone Leo of Tutto Arabi, who she gifted a filly. She was leased by Knocke Arabians who got a beautiful son Bacchus KA by QR Marc who was successful at many shows and the last two years she was leased by Al Dawla Arabians, Australia, who got to extremely beautiful daughters from her. The one by WH Justice, named Adalat el Dawla, to be the most special one. For 2021, the farm is still expecting one last foal from Bisiriya by embryo transfer, sired by RHR Heir of Marwan. At the moment, Arabian Stud Europe, still owns two sons and two daughters of Bisiriya. The daughters of Bisiriya are ASE Kamiliya Hlayyil (x Kahil al Shaqab) and Bisharat al Dawla (RHR Heir of

For 2021 she is booked to the reigning Brazilian National champion stallion El Jahez WH. Bisharat will enter the showring in 2022. ASE Juilliard The chief sire at the stud is the 4-years old son of Bisiriya named ASE Juilliard. Sired by Da Vinci FM (Versace), her is the half brother to Dominic M. Despite his age, ASE Juilliard already made a strong name for himself as a producer of extreme type. At the age of three, ASE Juilliard 194 | TUTTO ARABI - www.tuttoarabi.com

had already sired a National reserve champion filly and a Bronze medal champion colt. With his extreme face, big eyes and showy movement, he stamps his foals with exotic looks, even when bred to ‘normal’ mares. Besides his extreme head, he also has a strong body and straight correct legs. He is also very tall (1m60). Combined with a very sweet and calm character, Juilliard has been on top of the list with many breeders. Also outside Europe his offspring are popular. Currently his daughter ASE Juilliette (out of ASE Sayuri) is ready to make her debut in the showring in Israel. Jazzmeen Of course Arabian Stud Europe is most known for their famous black stallion Jazzmeen. A son of Essteem out of the heavily Ali Jamaal bred mare Jasmyne (Nyhl el Jamaal). Jazzmeen has been successful in several sport divisions and is breeding offspring that excel in endurance, dressage and
eventing. This year, Jazzmeen turned 20 years and he still looks like a youngster! Endurance Besides being active in the show- and breedingscene, Arabian Stud Europe is also very successful in endurance. Several homebred horses has reached the highest level of endurance and are competing internationally on CEI 2* level. In between breeding, the mares are all competing. 18 years old Geraldyne el Jamaal is even competing at 100+ km endurance races. Of course at a lower speed than her younger colleagues but she is still making success! For the past two years, Talitha has leased the mare Geisha P, who is maternal sister to Reserve World Champion endurance Laiza de Jalima. Bred to Jazzmeen, Geisha gave this year birth to a strong colt named ASE Jazzeem which will be maintained for future endurance races. T
