Welcome! Welcome to the University of Stirling and our first home game of the 2018 Season. We are two weeks into the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League and the team have had to face last season’s first and third place teams away. The tough start to the fixtures is nothing new for the team but it is to newly appointed Head Coach Barry Rodgers who only took charge of the team two weeks before the league started. Barry comes into the position as Head Coach of the Women’s Football Programme at the University of Stirling, a role which sees him manage not only the SWPL side but the BUCS team as well who play in the British League - North Division. Since joining the club he has been immediately thrown into a tough league schedule and an intensive induction into university football. The players and coaches have worked hard to be ready for the 2018 season. The first two games saw a tough loss to the Champions Glasgow City in the season opener but last Sunday a brilliant performance gave the squad their first point of the campaign after a 1-1 draw with Celtic. Today Barry and his new coaching team of assistant coach Craig Beveridge and Goalkeeping Coach Chris McGeough welcome the challenge of the SWPL League Cup. Today’s opponents, Central Girls, were champions of the SWFL1 North Division in 2017 and have adapted very well to the standard of SWPL2, with a win and a loss already from their opening two games. They will be a very tough challenge for the team. Good luck to the coaches and players today and we look forward to another great day of football here at the University of Stirling. Coaches Corner It has been a very busy start to the season but one that has allowed the squad to develop as a group. The players are settling well together and the communication between them is becoming more evident with every training session and game. There where many positives to take from our first game against City which was a game that we where still getting to know the players in. The Celtic game last week was another step towards what level we aim to be at with the players giving a selfless performance. We now face a Central side off the back of a promotion. They have a group of young, talented players and this is a challenge that we are looking forward to and will be pushing for further improvements. Barry Rodgers
