On Sunday, August 17, CHA Animal Shelter will hold its longest running (pun intended) fundraising event, the annual Dog Jog Fun Run & Walk. This year, due to construction, the Dog Jog has moved to its previous location of McPherson Commons in the Arena District in downtown Columbus. Participants can choose between a one CHA alum, Sable cooling off after mile walk and a 5K race. And, Dog Jog 2013 participants can set up their own FirstGiving page to collect donations in their honor for the race. The Dog Jog is one of our biggest events and raised more than $18,000 in 2013. Canine companions are welcome to accompany participants in either the walk or the run. If you don’t have a canine companion ready to run with you, worry not! CHA will have dogs available to “borrow” for the event. These dogs will also be available to adopt at the event. In addition, there will be a huge amount of baked goodies and treats for all participants and vendors will be on site after the races. Thanks to our sponsors Ohio Label and PetPeople. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. Entry fees are as follows: By August 1: $25 for members/adopter and $30 for non-members/adopters August 2-16: $30 for members/adopters and $35 for non-members/adopters Race day registration: $35 for members/adopters and $40 for non-members/adopters For more information or to register, visit CHAAnimalShelter.org To set up a FirstGiving, go to: www.firstgiving.com/chaanimalshelter/DogJog2014 See you at the race!
We are humbled every day at CHA Animal Shelter by receiving d onations from community members. These selfless gifts come from a broad spectrum of community members, from children to corporations. One of our favorites comes from a young man named Alex. He was tasked with a school project in which he was required to write a report on one of many topics. Lucky for CHA, Alex chose community service. Rather than simply writing the report, he took action. When he came to the shelter to gather information for his report, he also brought many donations for the dogs and cats. Our volunteers were happy to provide Alex a tour and educate him on how we take care of the animals. To top it all off, Alex’s family adopted a cat, Cami! Thanks for your contribution Alex! We also loved the story of Elia Mild and Hannah Dietsch who so creatively put together their own lemonade stand to raise funds for CHA. In addition to their homemade lemonade, these young ladies made their own dog toys to contribute to the sale. What a thoughtful and creative way to help out! Several generous children asked for donations to the shelter for their birthday in lieu of gifts. We were extremely touched by donations from Olivia, aged 12, ‘ Calvin, aged 2 (mom is adoption counselor, Megan Waltz), Katie, aged 10 and Ruby, aged 11. Most recently we received the priceless gift of time and energy from Citi employees who helped with yard work and painting. They also spent lots of quality time with the dogs and cats. We’d also like to give a special thanks to Columbus City Schools Occupational & Therapist and Chapel Field Elementary School for their donations. Donations like these help us to continue providing the best care possible. If you are interested in making a donation, click “Donate for our Wish List” on our website. And, there are other ways to make donations, such as Sponsor a Pet. It’s a great way to take care of a particular dog or cat if you aren’t able to take one into your home. Follow us on Facebook to see what we are in most need of at any given time through our Wednesday Wish List.

Ohio Label owner, Dave Graham is a longtime supporter of CHA, since 1970 in fact! He was the president of the board from 2002 until 2008 and is CH because passionate about CHA he believes in the united mission, the fact that it is solid and responsibly run and allows both dogs and cats to find homes.
“We are proud to be a corporate sponsor of CHA Animal Shelter and support the work that the staff and volunteers so tirelessly do,” said Terri Montigny, Marketing Manager for PetPeople.
Because of his personal dedication to the shelter, it was important to Graham to tie his business to the cause. “I look to other sponsors to give business to, and I’ve seen the same in return as a sponsor of the shelter.”
“People think of animal shelters as a sad place, but I think of CHA as a happy place- a continuous run of happy endings,” says Graham.
Ohio Label is a manufacturing company solely specializing in labels. Their products cover a wide range of needs spanning from retail product labels, which is the majority of their business- to barcodes and food labels. Freckles, one of PetPeople’s am’basset’adors was adopted from CHA and she is just one example of the amazing animals that find homes through the shelter’s effort and commitment.
