PIANO TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP with Alan Fraser Tuesday 27 September Recital Room 4.30pm Admission FREE
Canadian pianist and teacher Alan Fraser is the author of the seminal book on piano technique, The Craft of Piano Playing. Fraser’s analysis of the innate structure and function of the human hand unlocks its power, replacing tension or overrelaxation with effective hand activation. Whatever is lacking in your technique, Fraser can see exactly where a new effort can bring your body and hand into better alignment, making your piano tone blossom with new richness and subtlety, and increasing your sense of power and agility. Alan Fraser will lead a Feldenkrais group session to introduce a mindful approach to the piano, before coaching selected students.

4.30pm Admission FREE For Layla, every day is a battleground. The pay-gap, the thigh-gap, over-sexed pop and selfies that are photoshopped – they’re just part of the world she lives in. But Layla’s world is about to change. Breaking out of her bedroom and with drama, comedy, poetry and music as her weapons, Layla breaks down and makes sense of the realities, difficulties and absurdities of teenage life in the UK today. THEATRE THE SPACE - SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER 2016
SSTC present MNEMONIC Monday 10 to Thursday 13 October Pamoja Hall 7.30pm (Thursday 13, 2.00pm and 7.30pm) Admission FREE Tourists descending a frozen mountain peak discover a shrivelled body emerging from the ice. How old is it? A man, alone in his London flat, unable to sleep, searches in his memory. Or does he imagine? Crossing continents and centuries, Mnemonic connects the story of a 5000-year-old iceman with a search for an absent father and the longing for a lost love. A beautiful, multi-layered play about the role of imagination in recapturing the past, Mnemonic explores how memory relates to identity and origins, within the context of European history. Who are we? Where do we come from? What do we remember? How do we remember? ‘Stories of journeys fragment, reflect, repeat and revolve like the act of memory itself as Mnemonic questions our understanding of time, our capacity to distort history and out attempts to retell the past.’ Buzzing with creativity and vibrant physicality, the production combines a unique movement-based performance style with an integrated, atmospheric audio visual design. Running time 1 hour 50 minutes. No interval.

THEATRE THE SPACE - SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER 2016
SSTC Lower Sixth present SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR by Luigi Pirandello Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 December Sackville Theatre 7.00pm Tickets £10 (concession £8)
When six characters from a play that doesn’t exist interrupt a rehearsal for a play that does, you know your sense of what is real and what is illusory is about to be challenged. Do the characters want the group of actors to act out their story? Are the actors somehow less ‘real’ than the characters because they spend most of their time being someone else? In an evening of strange comedy and heartfelt tragedy, these questions will be answered… in theory.
