After intensive pre-season training with ex-England players Peter Richards, Duncan Bell and ex-Irish international Kieron Dawson, the team played some expansive and exciting rugby. A victory over Christ’s Hospital was followed by tough defeats against Cranbrook, Hurstpierpoint, Reed’s, King’s Canterbury and Mill Hill who were all well drilled.

A strong opening win against Christ’s Hospital 64-0 preceded four consecutive losses. A positive 17-14 win at Mill Hill ensued. After the break there were consecutive wins against Charterhouse (44-15) and Duke of York’s (31-13).

After half term renewed energy brought a win over Duke of York’s, a defeat to Sutton Valence, and an outstanding victory over Reigate Grammar. The final match against Eltham College was the toughest. We played some amazing rugby, and scored some incredible tries through Boulter, Whelpton, Renton and Gibson. However, Eltham ended up winning 36-32 in an exciting game of open and attacking rugby. Although the team had arguably underperformed, the feeling was that the season had ended too early! Ed Whelpton

Unfortunately we lost key player Isaac Cheng to the 1st XV bench and he was sorely missed. A good performance proved insufficient against Sutton Valence, and a dominant display at Reigate resulted in a frustrating draw. In the final game against Eltham College our best performance of the season was not enough to prevent a three-point defeat. The team finished the season with a positive net points tally, scoring just under 40 tries in our 11 fixtures. At our best, we were capable of some entertaining rugby. RUGBY U15A Rugby The U15As had a hugely successful season, winning 10 of 14 matches, and becoming Kent champions! Tough matches in the first two rounds resulted in victories over Colfe’s and Langley Park before an incredibly tense semi-final match away against Skinners Academy. The full-time score was 3-3, however, the away tries rule meant that we took victory and progressed to the final.

The team enjoyed a motivated and disciplined season displaying determination, commitment and a desire to compete. The highlight of the season was our 17-10 victory over Christ’s Hospital. The result was down to the pure aggression and intense power from the forwards Dunaev, Lewthwaite and Evans-Thomas. Precise passing from Bond meant that the backs were able to get quick ball from the breakdown.

We started off the season with a huge win and a big confidence boost against Christ’s Hospital. We then suffered three consecutive close defeats to Cranbrook, Hurstpierpoint and Reed’s. This was a big wake-up call. Renewed training paid off as we secured two massive victories in a row against King’s Canterbury and Mill Hill, winning by over 30 points. The next fixture was our closest and most physical match against Duke of York’s which we fought hard to win 7-5. Alfie Joarder-White scored a great try after the forwards drove half the length of the field. Alfie’s pace on the wing made him the highest try-scorer this season. Unfortunately the season’s last two matches were lost, although we played extremely well against Sutton Valence’s 3rd XV.

Another high point of the season was our narrow defeat against Cranbrook. The backs played beautifully flowing rugby, with marauding runs from the centres. Buhl-Nielsen, our top try-scorer, injected furious pace out on the wing, and outstanding player of the season, Moss, won all our scrums and a lot of the time stole the ball against the head. Although results didn’t reflect the performances, the team can be proud of themselves. An experienced Judd side were the opponents. After two cancellations due to the weather, the match finally got underway with Sevenoaks dominating play. Rupert Moverley Smith, Ben Walker and Dylan Morris-Jones all put points on the board for Sevenoaks, but Judd were full of fight, and replied with a try of their own. The game became extremely intense and our winger James Vernon finished off a great run from the halfway line to score and give us victory at 17-7. Other season highlights include securing fine victories over King’s Canterbury and Cranbrook, but it was the Kent Cup win that epitomised the attitude and hard work of this fantastic squad. The team started the season poorly, losing Sunnucks and Ruprai to injuries early on, and losing all matches before half term. We were let down by inexperience and lack of organisation. After half term, the team performed much better, with a narrow loss against Duke of York’s, and a welcome victory over Sutton Valence. Unfortunately, the team didn’t keep this up, narrowly losing to Reigate and, despite an excellent game, by two points to Eltham. The team had good individual players: Gillis’s amazing kicking; excellent tackling from Penney and Griffiths; fast running by Patel, Khan, Menges, Campbell and Kothari; combative rucking and mauling from Thorp and Dulerayn; and excellent finishes from Cockman. The forwards always played a hard game, led by Thorp, Campbell and Menges as the back row, with hard work from Hargreaves, Olden and Dulerayn. The team grew stronger throughout the season and were always committed to playing their best. The U14As enjoyed a year of development, which showed through their performances. After a disappointing, narrow loss to Christ’s Hospital the team rapidly improved, beating Cranbrook and Hurstpierpoint. In the first round of the Kent Cup the team had a tough draw away at Tunbridge Wells and lost narrowly, 34-31. However the improvement continued with strong wins against Mill Hill, Reed’s and Sutton Valence through strong defensive performances. The season finished with narrow losses to Reigate and Eltham. After a season of entertaining tries and some excellent defensive work, the team have lots to look forward to next year.

There were two really heartening moments this season. The first came in the second match when, told by the referee that he would stop the game after the next score as a 50-point deficit would be reached, the team suddenly discovered the determination and resilience to hold out the opposition for the final 15 minutes. The second was against Sutton Valence where, as I watched the opposition suffering a 60+ point defeat, I was reminded that they looked very much like we had looked at the start of the season. Though still lacking a little more self-belief and physical commitment, all players improved markedly over the season and tried to play positive, open and attractive rugby.

Cancelled fixtures gave us time to refine our technique, teamwork and individual skills. We showed fantastic team spirit and aggression against Dulwich College Prep School. Despite suffering a significant defeat, our effort level and commitment allowed us to score one try, earned solely through perseverance and energy, and scored by the indefatigable Tom Smith. Another testament to the improvement and skill of the team was our match against Hawthorns. We managed to let our impact players loose, such as Harry Carley and Finley Dubell, as well as maintaining a solid defensive line through admirable tackles by Matthew Emmerson, and Cameron Allan, and the tactical awareness of Rhys Joseph. Overall, it was a satisfying season.

Unfortunately, a number of our fixtures were cancelled due to bad weather. However, when we did play, the team showed considerable skill and athleticism, along with pure grit and determination to beat Dulwich College Prep School 10-5. In our next match against Marlborough House we scored a couple of good tries to win the match 17-10. The last match, against Hazelwood, was undoubtedly the highlight of our season as we won 51-5. It was frustrating not to play more matches due to the weather, but we have all improved and enjoyed many entertaining training sessions led by Mr Hill.

The season started with impressive victories over Hurstpierpoint, CLFS, Haileybury and Cranleigh. Victory in the county tournament was a highlight and completed an incredible sequence of five consecutive county tournament titles. We beat King’s 2-0 in the final, scoring 27 goals and conceding none. Victories against Epsom, Bishop’s Stortford, Sutton Valence and St Leonard’s Mayfield (an 11-0 win) followed.

With the promise of a really strong squad this year, the first match for the 2nd XI was eagerly anticipated. Everyone performed to a high level and we stormed to a 5-1 victory against CLFS, which gave us all real confidence. Cummins and Keevil began producing seamless dribbles which added real fluidity to our play. We achieved six consecutive wins, notably against Haileybury.

In the regional finals round robin phase, Sevenoaks dismissed Sharnbrook, Perse, Bourne Grammar and Queenswood to secure their place at the regional finals proper. A 5-2 victory over Felsted followed, then a 3-1 defeat against King’s. Unfortunately at the regionals, Sevenoaks crucially missed four key players who had all sustained injuries, and we couldn’t manage the top two finish that was required. In the last two games of the season we recorded a 2-1 win at Eastbourne and a 4-3 loss to Hurstpierpoint. The results do not reflect the true potential of the 1st XI. However, I would like to congratulate each member for the effort and hard work they have put in over the past five years. After half term we met tough opponents King’s Canterbury and unfortunately, despite great passing and movement, we were unable to convert our chances, narrowly losing 3-1. The team finished the season on a high as we delivered a crushing 9-1 victory against Hurstpierpoint College. It was a joy to captain the side, who combined skill, determination and discipline, and I want to say a massive thank you to Mr Bassett for being a fantastic coach. Hockey U15B Hockey Throughout the season, the U15B team worked together consistently. First we beat Cranbrook 4-2. Despite losing the next match 0-1 to Epsom College, the team worked well, pushing the ball from defence to midfield dynamos Emily Brandon and Olivia Hammond who fired balls into the middle of the circle for Cornelia Bentsen or Rebecca Miles to shoot.

Despite a challenging season the U16As put in some strong performances this year. An impressive defensive performance against TWGGS gave us a 2-0 victory. One of our highlights was a win against Duke of York’s 1st XI team. This match brought the goal of the season, scored by Ciara Desmond’s reverse strike to the bottom corner. The final score was 2-1, giving us an important confidence boost.

This was an outstanding season for the U16B team who displayed a huge amount of passion and heart. The team’s key strength was their ability to prevent the opposition scoring; indeed they conceded only two goals in eight closely fought games. Their best performance was a 1-0 win against Duke of York’s 2nd XI. The U16Bs supported one another well in training and matches. Their only regret is being denied an unbeaten season in their last game by a B team opposition which fielded a number of A players to narrowly defeat us 1- 0.

The U15A team started the season with a tremendous 7-0 win against CLFS featuring four goals from Lucy Eifion-Jones (top scorer with 14 for the season), and was followed by a 2-1 victory against Haileybury.

As captain, Chloe Broom consistently dominated the centre of the pitch, and her formidable short corner strike resulted in numerous goals throughout the season. Frankie and Olivia Anderson crucially connected the defence and the attack along with Maria Bassi. Flora Cournane also made many goal-line clearances and Kate Edwards played excellently in goal, making several important saves. Chloe Broom and Ciara Desmond

Despite a competent team performance, we suffered an 11-0 home defeat against national finalists Cranleigh. Bouncing back, we powered to a sublime 6-2 victory away at Epsom. We then recorded wins against Sutton Valence, St Leonard’s Mayfield and Felsted. We produced our best performance of the season against King’s Canterbury, but were undone by their incredible goalkeeper and were defeated 4-1. However, we finished with an excellent 3-0 win at TWGGS and a great team performance against a talented Hurstpierpoint side, where we drew 2-2.

Against Sutton Valence, we had a comprehensive 10-0 victory. Our next win against Felsted was a substantial 5-0, with Alice Crawford scoring three goals. King’s Canterbury always pose a formidable threat, so we really earned our confident 2-0 win and are indebted to our strong defence of Karoline Wale, Tina Hill, Elizabeth Elgar and Sophie Hazel. We ended the season on a high, winning 1-0 against Hurstpierpoint. We would like to thank Miss Pearson for being such an inspirational coach throughout this successful season. HOCKEY U14B Hockey We began a successful season with a 3-0 win against CLFS, and continued with an impressive win against Haileybury 7-0. We won all our games (including a decisive 8-0 win against Epsom College) but were beaten by the Colfe’s A team in an intense match. Our top goal scorer Lucy Thompson scored 10 of our 39 goals. Player of the season Zoe Vanhegan (goalie) conceded only 4 goals. Jess Wen was our most improved player and Liv Lloyd-Williams and Sophie Thomas were elected players’ players. U14A Hockey The U14s have had an excellent hockey season this year, beating CLFS, Haileybury and TWGGS. Unfortunately we then lost 3-0 to Cranleigh, and 3-1 to Wellington. Bouncing back, we beat Epsom 1-0 before playing most of the county tournament in torrential rain! We beat Bromley High in a quarter-final shoot-out, and then lost to King’s Canterbury in a semi-final shoot-out. Victories ensued over Sutton Valence (4-0) and St Leonard’s Mayfield (6-0). After half term we used fine skill to beat Felsted 3-2. The following week the team performed outstandingly to beat King’s Canterbury 5-2. Eastbourne bought us back to reality a week later with a 2-1 defeat. Throughout the season everyone worked hard and played excellent hockey. Tavie Turner was top scorer with 7, and goalie Sophie Holliday was voted player of the season. Our defence rarely let the ball through. Our midfielders linked the team effectively and assisted with the scoring. Our forwards confidently moved the ball into the opponents’ goal at every opportunity. We enjoyed our season and we were helped by Miss Nairn’s encouraging words and promises of chocolate! We started the season with a fairly quiet 2-0 victory over Sutton Valence. We then exploded into action in the Sevenoaks invitational tournament. Having scored some excellent goals in our section, we went on to beat Marlborough House in the semi-final and Junior King’s in the final.

The U13Bs had a fantastic unbeaten season and we all played to our potential in each match. We had some impressive scorelines but our best performance was a closely fought game versus Bishop’s Stortford which we eventually won 3-2. The midfield combination of Jessie Oliver, Caragh Taylor and Pollyanna Rimell worked tirelessly to push the ball to the forward strike team of Josie Gibb and Tabbi Gault, allowing Tabbi to score a hat-trick. We scored 51 goals throughout the season and only conceded 8 goals, a fantastic achievement. Special mentions must go to Tabbi Gault who scored 27 goals and goalkeeper Hebe Reynolds for letting in so few goals. Our player of the season was Emily Bolton who was an incredible defender throughout and also managed to score two goals.

We marched in to the Kent County Tournament with high hopes and beat everyone in our pool. We dismissed King’s Canterbury in the quarter-finals and demolished TWGGS in the semi-finals, securing our place at the regional finals. An outstanding performance in the final against Kent College Canterbury saw us hold our nerve in the penalty shoot-out to become Kent champions for the first time. We then beat Bishop’s Stortford in an exciting 6-5 goal fest before enjoying more success at the Trinity Schools Tournament where we were also crowned champions! At the regionals we fought hard to secure a place at the U13 national finals. We played exceptionally well and proudly finished eighth in the country. 1st XI Boys Hockey

Throughout the season we improved a lot, enjoyed some great team spirit and learned how to play well together as a team. Our defence of Alexia Marza and Grace Annetts produced amazing tackles and strong sweep slaps, and our goalie Issy Milligan was fantastic on a number of occasions. The midfield of Clara Tyler, Orissa Welsh and Anna van Velsen worked hard, helping the forwards to score and providing valuable support. The strike force came in the form of Charlotte Jairaj, Annabel Jairaj and Zoe Eifion-Jones. The team scored 39 goals with Zoe as top scorer.

Not having played competitive hockey before, the team recorded an encouraging set of results. We got off to a great start with a draw against King’s Rochester’s A team, followed by 4-0 and 4-1 victories over Kent College Canterbury and Sutton Valence.

Unfortunately, training and most of this season’s matches were badly affected by adverse weather conditions. Our first match was against a strong Tonbridge side – real a baptism of fire! Despite a great performance from goalkeeper Nimal de Silva, we were beaten 8-0. However in our next game against Trinity Boys we were looking to turn the tables. With accurate and efficient passing in the midfield by Scott Newman, Keyu Sumaria and Bertie Cooper, a strong defence and a hat-trick from Adam Margulies, plus goals from Harry Hobbs and Maxi Lampert, we were able to secure a 5-1 victory. Following two more cancelled matches, our next fixture was against a strong Caterham side – a top hockey school. Even with our key defenders – Phil Boobbyer, John Kendrick and Khush James – putting in man-of-the-match performances, the Caterham team proved too strong and this resulted in a 5-0 defeat.

Particularly good matches with fantastic team performances were against TWGGS (6-0) and Kent College Pembury (6-1). We had a particularly good season and I hope we carry our determination forward to next year.

A very strong and well-organised Danes Hill team put things in perspective and we had to bow to their superiority, 1-5. We bounced back, however, and despite narrow defeats at the hands of Bishop’s Stortford and Junior King’s, finished on a high with victories over Marlborough House, Duke of York’s, DCPS and TWGGS. 1st XI Football The year started with a pre-season tour to Villarreal in January, and our first friendly against King’s Canterbury saw us put our fitness and style of football to the test in a 3-1 victory. This season also saw us enter the Sussex and Kent Independent Schools League (SKIL), alongside Christ’s Hospital, King’s Canterbury, Brighton College and Worth, winning our first three matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one. We had one tough week losing to Colfe’s and Tonbridge. However, we felt confident on the final day of the season and put in a fighting display to earn a well-deserved 3-2 win over King’s Canterbury and ensure our one hundred per cent record in the league. I would like to thank Messrs Dinsdale and Emmitt for their ability to engender such an exciting style of play over the last few years. The season got off to a flyer with Mikey Thompson scoring in the first minute of the first match against King’s Canterbury. After two initial narrow defeats, a settled squad went on an unbeaten run, defeating Christ’s Hospital, Hurst and Colfe’s and drawing against Worth. The goals were scored by Mikey Thompson (4), Barnaby Hodgkins (2) and George Baron. Injuries resulted in a ‘patched-up’ team for the final fixtures of the season. Unfortunately one of these was a heavy loss to a very strong and technically superior Tonbridge side. The final game of the season saw Dom Dyer score a superb hat-trick in his last match for the school before the team conceded five headed goals in the second half. We registered a 1-0 win against King’s Canterbury with Finn Lewthwaite scoring a long-range free kick. Our next games saw us earn a 2-2 draw against Brighton College, followed by a 6-0 win over Christ’s Hospital. Next we pulled off an excellent 3-1 win in a friendly against Tonbridge. We then travelled to Worth, and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners, thanks to fine goalkeeping by Nick Bell and the dribbling skills of George McGirr (player of the season). Our penultimate game of the season was an 8-0 win at Lingfield Notre Dame. We secured the SKIL U16 league title and an unbeaten season by beating King’s Canterbury 3-1.

In this short but entertaining and undefeated season, our team saw a change of players from previous years, when our coach, Mr Cockerill, recruited some ‘hidden talent’ from other teams.

Our first game was in Brighton, the wind howling, everyone eager to play. The game felt unconvincing in the first half, but when heading downhill we gained some much-needed confidence against a strong side, winning the match 5-1. A pure moment of genius, and quite possibly the best goal of the season, came when James Hale stepped up for a free kick just outside the box, sending it soaring over the keeper’s head. Coming out from that game we went on to win very convincingly in the next three, our last ending in a 6-1 victory. Toby Manchip

This was a tough term for the U15A football team who played some accomplished teams and ended up losing many close games. You could not, however, question their commitment and determination to play with genuine passion. The team’s best result was a tough 4-2 win over a strong Worth team. Louis McKeeve had an excellent season as captain. He is a well-balanced, skilful midfield player. Oscar Gay was the most improved player and Ed Harris should be congratulated on his goalkeeping. Against Lingfield Notre Dame, the game was delicately poised at 1-1 when Ed Harris sent in an excellent cross which Dan Shields met at the far post with a diving header to win the game for Sevenoaks.

In a difficult season, our team spirit and resilience didn’t waver. Our first four games were unlucky defeats. However, we scored a 4-3 victory over Notre Dame away. Alex Tam traded brilliant goals with their centre forward, the most impressive being his long-range free kick, easily our goal of the season. The game was tense for the remaining half with Nick Penney hitting the crossbar from the halfway line with a wonder strike after some brilliant midfield link-up play. The game was finally decided by Alexander Fan with a composed finish and we held on for the victory. After this confidence-boosting success, we look forward to next season.

This was a positive inaugural season in the SKIL league, where we finished a respectable second, and with more luck against Christ’s Hospital (our only loss), we might have won the league outright. There were very encouraging wins against King’s Canterbury, Worth and Brighton in which the boys showed real skill and dogged determination to grind out close wins.

Despite our hard work in indoor training, we were defeated in the first games against King’s Canterbury and Brighton. This was followed by two exciting draws against Christ’s Hospital and Worth, the former including a miraculous comeback on our part. Christ’s broke through to score three goals in the second half. In the last ten minutes, we scored three amazing goals to end the game 3-3. Our last game against Worth ended 1-1. We managed to achieve significant improvements rapidly, thanks to all the hard work from our coach, Mr Willis.

The team enjoyed a very successful season, producing excellent results and an entertaining style of play. We worked hard to develop an attacking style of football characterised by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession. We all experienced playing in a variety of positions to ensure that we developed a good understanding of the game. We also developed in seven-a-side and 11-a-side games and were always looking to attack when possible. The team enjoyed eight wins out of 12 fixtures and scored 40 goals throughout the season.

The U13B team went the entire season undefeated, due in part to a great attitude from all the players. In the seven-a-side season we won four and drew two and in the 11-a-side season we finished with five victories from five games. Going into the last game the pressure increased, as we knew that victory was needed to end the season in style. The final match was close but Sevenoaks won 2-1, coming from 1-0 down with great goals from Tom Smith and Max Doll. Most pleasing of all was the style in which all victories came, with wonderful passing from all involved, and all individuals have certainly matured as team players.

The growing maturity in the boys’ play has impressed us both as coaches; by the end of the year, they were looking like a mighty fine team, which bodes extremely well for the future.

Girls Football In many ways this is a ‘golden generation’ for girls football at Sevenoaks, not just due to the strength of the 1st XI but also strength in depth. With close to 40 players in training, there was healthy competition for places. In this fantastic season, our attacking was exceptional. Scoring a highly impressive 39 goals, the team produced some very skilful and organised performances. The indomitable Katherine Nickols was the top scorer, but the goal of the season was a fabulous free-kick from Florentina Winkelmann. Special praise goes to team captain Grace Whitehouse, an inspirational leader on and off the pitch. A noteworthy victory came when we smashed Bradfield 4-0 at home, after losing to them 1-0 away. However, the season will be best remembered for the pulsating semi-final of the

Kent Cup against Dane Court. Playing in foul conditions, Sevenoaks fought back from 2-0 down, pulling it back to 2-2 with five minutes to go, only to be denied by a fine headed goal deep in injury time. A cup final would have been just reward, but the team can be proud of a fine display and a great season.

U16B Netball The U16B team had an excellent season, with both losses being by a single goal. We began the season strongly with a win against St John’s Leatherhead. However, our endurance was tested against Wellington College in which we narrowly lost 8-9. After a 15-16 loss to Eastbourne we went on to win our next four matches with particular success in a 26-13 victory over Christ’s Hospital where Chloe Broom’s shooting excelled. She and Amber Jeffryes never failed to surprise us with their long-range goals and unerring shooting. Verity Thomson was especially consistent in centre court. Rebekah Collins and Amy Severs made vital interceptions, helping us to keep possession of the ball. Abi Hands

U16A Netball The team had an amazing year, coming runners-up in the Kent finals and progressing to the regional finals. The team has developed greatly over the season and have bonded well. Lizzie Roberts and Frankie Anderson played together very well in defence and made some super interceptions. The U15As started the season as a new team to the previous year, with most of the top players playing for the U16s, but we were determined to bond quickly. Unfortunately, our season was difficult despite our best efforts. Throughout every game, despite being behind, we always had a smile on our face. In our most dramatic game, on a very slippery court after heavy rain, we started well with some incredible goals from Camilla Bolton and spectacular defending by El Robson, but the opposition pulled ahead. Unluckily for us the rest of the season seemed to follow suit as we finished second on most occasions! However, I’m proud of our hard work. Well done girls and here’s to next season!

After an initial cancellation, we put out a strong team against Eastbourne and won by two goals. The following weekend we scraped a win against Hurstpierpoint, after the score had been even for most of the match. Unfortunately, our next match against Cranleigh was a tough one, and they beat us easily 15-24. In our hardest match of the season, against Caterham, we played our best netball, worked hard and with some impressive goals, managed to keep up with the attacking side, making it 10-10. The subsequently poor weather did not stop us from winning the majority of our matches and playing to the best of our ability!

We had an excellent season, winning all seven games. This was achieved through a combination of the shooters’ consistent accuracy, the centre court players’ agility, and the defence’s resistance. The whole squad showed great dedication and determination. We finished runners-up in the Birley’s Tournament, and at the county tournament – despite missing three players – we stayed optimistic and played hard all day. We unluckily missed out on qualification for regionals, finishing fourth. The highlight of the season was a hard-fought win against Hurstpierpoint. They matched our determination and competitiveness, and the match was fast-paced and closely fought. Sevenoaks came out as worthy winners.

Our first fixture as a team started somewhat patchily but as we began working together, we significantly improved against Wellington and St John’s Leatherhead. We then played Hurstpierpoint and Eastbourne, winning 22-3 and 23-11 respectively. We trained hard and comfortably beat Cranleigh 19-12 followed by victories against King’s Canterbury and Christ’s Hospital which continued to boost our confidence. We have been fortunate to have two consistent shooters, solid feeding into the circle from and consistent, confident defending.

Winning the majority of our matches, we worked together and produced some amazing scores and a superb set of results. In attack we had Lexie Hoyer and Louisa Webb who worked together skilfully to keep the ball in our shooting third. As shooters we had Tabbi Gault and Jessie Oliver who scored a total of 108 goals, not including the many scored at the Kent County Tournament where we were runners-up. In the centre third defence we had Caragh Taylor and Immie Gibb at WD and GD. Hannah Daly and Phoebe Barker worked at defence in the goal third; together they protected well, and rapidly sent the ball back upfield.

The U13B team had a brilliant season, winning all seven games. Our shooters worked together well in the circle, even in the harsh windy weather, managing to score over 150 goals. Our defence was also fantastic, and with gutsy determination conceded minimum goals and performed multiple interceptions. We could always count on them to bring the ball into safe territory again. The three remaining attackers played almost telepathically so we could swiftly bring the ball back up the court.

We began with a brilliant 27-9 win home against Cranleigh Prep, and followed with away wins against Christ’s Hospital 18-2 and Sutton Valence 19-5, and a 16-0 win against Bennett Memorial. The success continued as we beat Benenden 20-10 in an exceptionally competitive match. We anticipated difficulty against the Junior King’s U13A team but prevailed 14-5.

We started off the season strongly with our first match against Cranleigh, winning 10-5 after a slow start. The team’s dedication and enthusiasm was paramount and this was displayed in our victories over Christ’s Hospital, Sutton Valence, Benenden and a massive defeat of 25-0 over Bennett Memorial.

We would like to thank Mrs Lettington, our coach, for doing such a brilliant job and pushing us to perform our best.

We won the Trinity Schools Tournament. In the Kent County Tournament, we won all our pool matches and the quarter-finals to progress forward to the semi-finals, where we beat Dartford Grammar to compete in the final against Tonbridge Grammar. This was a fast game and by the first half we were down by five goals, although very determined in the second half to play our best. Sadly it was not enough as we lost 12-8, although we were rewarded as second best U12 netball team in Kent out of 53 schools. Zoe Eifion-Jones

Senior and Intermediate Cross Country The term started with the biggest race of the season, the Knole Run. Our high hopes were not disappointed, with the Sevenoaks girls winning once again (Kate Curran finishing first), and the Sevenoaks boys coming fourth, their highest ever place (Chris Olley finishing second). Chris was ably supported by Jake Spence in seventh place, and by Ibrahim Abed (36th), Robert Boylin (48th), Louis Catliff (63rd) and Sufyan Dabbous (71st). In the girlsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; race, Kate was supported by Nicola Wilkinson in sixth place, Phoebe Barker (12th) and Tabitha Adams (28th).

The next race was again at home on a new course within the school grounds. Our best runners were away at the Kent Schools Championships, but those who did run enjoyed themselves. At the Kent Schools, three Seniors qualified to represent Kent at the English Schools Championships: Nicola Wilkinson (2nd), Kate Curran (3rd), and Chris Olley (7th). Furthermore, five juniors also gained selection for Kent to run at an inter-counties match.

Then came the Wellington Relays, where the Intermediate Boys won a medal for the first time ever, finishing third, and the Senior Boys finished second. The final race of the season was the South East Schools Championships at Harrow. The Senior Boys finished third with a slightly weakened team. Additional after-school training sessions were introduced this year; numbers and difficulty have steadily increased and the foundations are being laid for future success. CRICKET Junior Cross Country The teams produced many excellent performances. In the English Schools Cross Country Cup, both teams ran well in the district round, the boys sixth overall and the girls third, which saw them progress through to regionals. Sadly, they could not field their strongest team there and finished fifth. The Thomas Trophy was a successful day for both, the girls combining exceptionally well to retain their U13 title and the boys putting in great effort to finish third. The prestigious Junior Knole Run saw the girls finish second with the boys in fifth place. At the Kent Schools, Lara Gueorguieva finished eighth in the Year 7 girls, with rising star Phoebe Barker finishing 11th in the Junior Girls. Finally, in the Wainman and Stevens Cup competitions the girls defended their title and the boys finished in a brilliant second place.

Following victory against Sevenoaks Old Oaks (Makepeace 41), the team struggled to score runs in defeats against Reigate, King’s Canterbury, Eltham and Worth; however, they beat Judd by 11 runs in the National 20/20 Competition.

First, King’s Canterbury. We set a modest 119 for 9 off 35 overs, with George Evans-Thomas contributing 39. Despite good bowling, King’s reached our total after 24 overs.

The season was mixed with some good wins and disappointing losses. The highlight was an emphatic win at Reigate by 91 runs, when Tejas Patel showed exceptional timing on a slow wicket in scoring 92* and Dong Sung Kim bowled accurately to achieve 5 wickets for 19 runs. Other highlights included Harry Gillis’s 4 for 1 against Worth, Aryan Khan’s 5 for 1 and Tristan Flint’s 4 for 8 against St Edmund’s Canterbury, and finally Tejas Patel’s 70 in a close game against Judd. Tejas was without doubt player of the season, scoring 217 runs, taking 8 wickets and making an outstanding one-handed catch. Tejas, Harry, Freddie Davies and Cyrus White went on to represent the 1st XI towards the end of the Summer term. Mr Smith and I thoroughly enjoyed working with the squad. Their commitment and attitude were excellent, and we wish them luck next year.

Despite a good fight against King’s Canterbury we lost the first match. In training, we soon realised that Joe Jenne’s bowling could produce wickets and he got four against Eltham. Unfortunately we lost by three wickets but this was closely followed by a seven-wicket win against Worth. Verdaan Mehra’s batting was explosive and he was the quickest bowler in our attack. We managed to bat well against Sutton Valence with Tom Winchester hitting the ball well; however the match was abandoned. Strong batsmen such as Gabriel Hargeaves provided stability in the batting and Ben Walker scored 20 off two overs against Reigate, although we lost by 6 runs. There were some excellent catches by Jon Collini and Jack Clarke in the last match against Judd, unfortunately to no avail as their batting was too strong.

We then recorded four good victories against King’s Rochester by 7 wickets, Old Sennockians by 8 wickets (Davey 4-24, Ashe-Jepson 48*), Dover College by 10 wickets (Davey 4-10) and against a strong Colfe’s team by 4 wickets. Against a strong MCC side captained for the last time by Old Sennockian Will House, we bowled and fielded well, restricting the MCC to 199-8. However, despite a strong start by McQuin with 43, we were defeated by 115 runs. Top run scorer for the season was McQuin (285, average 20.36) and top wicket-taker Richardson with 19. The season’ highlight was Natasha Farrant’s deserved call-up to the full England Ladies squad and her debut in the Twenty20 series against Pakistan.

Our next match was away at Eltham College. Eltham chose to bat and set a score of 179 off 25 overs. Even with Toby Dix’s impressive 3 wickets for 30, the total was a substantial target. Rory Barber scored an unexpected 22 runs off 18 balls, but we were all out for 109 after 24 overs. Next we faced Reigate Grammar, who posted a good score. We saw some tight bowling by Rob Lewis-Davies, but despite the efforts of Nick Bell with 34, wickets fell rapidly and we ended up short by 53 runs. Against The Grange School, with Keyu Sumaria returning to score an agonising 48, and Harry Hobbs following up with 43, we set a good total of 155 all out. The season began with a great victory over King’s Canterbury with contributions from everyone. King’s set a good target of 184, but we won by 4 wickets, with 50s from Nick Bett and Dylan Morris-Jones and valuable runs chipped in by the middle order, including Matt Judge who hit the winning runs.

The U14B cricket team enjoyed a solid season, getting off to a fine start with an away win against King’s Canterbury. The second match also went according to plan against Worth; we batted first and put up a good target of 106-3 with Sam Honnywill scoring 48. We then concentrated well in the field, taking a few catches and wickets and beating them as they scored 94-5. The season got off to a good start with a 39 run victory over Worth. The team had a dip against Judd but Martha Tipper took 3-17. We beat Christ’s Hospital by 70 runs, with Rhys Joseph scoring 54 and taking 4-8 and Arthur Sackville-West 3-6. We lost to Dulwich Prep by 9 wickets with Rhys 83 not out. We beat Bickley Park by 9 wickets chasing 77 in 11 overs with Rory Easton taking 3-11. We also beat Sevenoaks Prep by 23 runs with Rory scoring 50*. We finished with a tight loss against Eltham.

Despite only winning two games against Christ’s Hospital and Worth, the season was positive. Firstly, most games were evenly contested and competitive. Eltham College was the only side to bowl us out. Secondly, it was a team effort with everyone contributing with bat or ball. Lucy Goodfellow did well as wicketkeeper, taking a couple of difficult catches and stopping most of the wides!

We got to the semi-finals of the Kent Cup, beating Chislehurst & Sidcup by 1 wicket in the quarter-final with a much-needed 60 run partnership for the 9th wicket. We beat Hayes by 10 wickets to reach the semi-final, where we fell short to Judd again with Rhys scoring 50. Overall it was a very good season.

Overall the squad played with purpose and enthusiasm and most players improved over the course of the season. If we had held one or two more perhaps the results would have been better. Nevertheless it was a very enjoyable season played in good spirit. Ian Haffenden

BOYS ATHLETICS skills that are necessary to make it as a distance runner, displaying sub-12 100m capability as well as the endurance required to run close to a two-minute 800m. Sufyan Dabbous and Elliot Briery succeeded in decimating their respective 800m and 1500m personal bests. As an unbeaten 4x400m team, the middle distance runners’ work ethic and natural talent resulted in the 4x400m school record being captured in the last race of the term, one of the crowning achievements of the season. We quickly learnt that our strength was in the team spirit that we displayed against formidable opposition, and there were multiple instances of athletes filling in to cover gaps.

Isaac Cheng, our 100m man, never ceased to impress with his determination in the face of considerable opposition. Whilst being an impressive sprinter, he has also dabbled in long jumping with considerable success, winning the event at several meets. Arthur Davison discovered himself as a natural hurdler a few days before our first meeting at Eton and succeeded in lowering his personal best by over a second. The field eventers worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Jake Harley-Pile was the athlete responsible for the majority of points earned by the team. Alex Robbins was another proficient member of the field athlete squad, his great success doubtlessly down to his unwavering dedication in turning up to all matches. The middle-distance squad were strong. Hima Abed is the outstanding example of the diverse 38

Throughout the season the team had some fantastic results. It was an almost unbeaten season for Alex Tam in the 100m and 200m and he also contributed to the team’s domination in both 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The 4x400m team of James Affleck, Alex Tam, Alasdair Russell and Rupert Moverley Smith won all but the last race of the season. The middle distance team of Rupert Moverley Smith and Robert Boylin were outstanding. Rupert won all but two of the 1500m and 800m events throughout the season, finishing on a high by winning both events against Tonbridge, Judd, Eton and St Paul’s. In the field we had some great performances from Oliver Clinch in javelin. James Affleck was outstanding in the discus. Our high jump team deserves a mention as both Edward Harris and Theo Ventura held their own against some opposition nearly a foot taller than them!

The team had an unbeaten record and lots of fast times and long distances. The highlight was Kent IAPS where we won a medal in almost every event, finishing with 5 golds, 2 silvers and 4 bronzes.

We excelled in both the track and the field, losing only one match. During the middle of the season we lost one of our strongest athletes and vice-captain, Arthur Zijdenbos, due to a broken arm. Jackson Wen and Alex Huisman, our other vice-captain, excelled in sprinting and the field events. We finished off our season with a match where we won every single event.

The gold medallists (Harry Carley 200m, Matthew Emmerson 800m, Charlie Lindsay 1500m, Alex Parton long jump) all qualified for the nationals. The silver medallists were Max Murray (high jump) and Harry Carley (100m). Bronze medallists included Henry Jones (javelin), Alex Parton (hurdles), Matthew Emmerson (triple jump) and Tom Smith (shot-put). In an exciting finale, Tom Smith, Alex Parton, Matthew Emmerson and Harry Carley won the 4x100m relay and broke the school record. Back at school, one of our most enjoyable meets was against local rivals New Beacon, where George Wallinger, Axel Susini and Rhys Joseph contributed to a memorable win. Finally our 4x400m team (Matthew Emmerson, Rhys Joseph, Harry Carley and Tom Smith) also smashed the school record by 10 seconds.

Our team trained hard. Many came along to extra training sessions twice a week. The whole team should be pleased with the outcome of this season, as we had a lot of people doing events for the first time ever. ROUNDERS Junior GIRLS Athletics The girls enjoyed a successful season with a number of new stars emerging. Sprinters Grace Annetts, Charlotte Jairaj, Orissa Welsh and Flossy Coumbe all demonstrated incredible speed with Grace finishing second at the Kent Schools Athletics Championships in the 200m. Phoebe Barker also performed consistently well, finishing second at the IAPS to qualify for the nationals. Lexie Hoyer also qualified for the nationals after she finished second at the IAPS, throwing nearly 25m in the javelin. Lara Gueorguieva and Clara Tyler have bright futures in the 1500m. Lauren Tucker proved herself a great all-rounder, whilst Hannah Daly continued to throw well in both javelin and shot.

Intermediate GIRLS Athletics Overall this was a very successful season; we were unbeaten in matches against Weald of Kent, Tonbridge Grammar, TWGGS, Hillview, Combe Bank, Kent College Pembury, Walthamstow Hall and Hugh Christie. We also had some impressive performances in the Trinity and Kent Schools Championships. The Trinity competition was one of many highlights this season. We had some impressive individual places, including include Hebe Reynolds’ 22.75m discus throw (placing her 1st), Holly MacAskill’s 8.29m in shot-put (3rd), Sophie Westbrooke’s long jump score of 4.22m (1st), Kizzy Steed-Fassett’s 1.5m in high jump (1st) and 75m hurdles time of 13.4s (2nd), Josie Hogh’s 20.93m javelin throw, and Imogen Cowan’s 30.3s in 200m. As a team we were placed fifth overall. The following were also selected to compete at the Kent Schools Athletics Championships where they all performed well: Mhairi Fenton, Freya Hall, Josie Hogh and Kizzy Steed-Fassett.

ROUNDERS 1st Team Rounders The season got underway with victories over Cranbrook and Epsom. An excellent display of fielding by Piper, Pinchuk, Barry, Lillie and Brandt made it difficult for the opposition to score. We had tough home and away fixtures with King’s which resulted in one win each, and despite other victories against Sutton Valence, Eastbourne, Ardingly and TWGGS, the most memorable had to be against Bishop’s Stortford who gained a 10-rounder lead which seemed impossible to match. After a tantalising team talk, some excellent fielding from Lillie and Bickley helped to keep the opposition score down. Despite some great batting by Jay, Cummins and Brandt, it was Pinchuk who stole the show with outstanding hitting, gaining the team five rounders before collapsing from exhaustion. We eventually triumphed by half a rounder in what was an amazing example of team work and cooperation. It has been a pleasure to captain such a great team, and thanks must go to Miss Connolly for her guidance and words of wisdom. The three games that resulted in defeat at the hands of King’s, Walthamstow Hall and Burgess Hill displayed outstanding batting and fielding from both teams, and could have gone either way, and it was a measly half-rounder that denied us a place in the top three play-offs in the Cranbrook tournament. However, the eight victories recorded against Epsom (twice), Cranbrook, Benenden, Hurstpierpoint, Eastbourne, Sutton Valence and TWGGS were comprehensive. There was excellent batting from Eloise Robson, Amanda Cottle, Geni Carter and Lucy Eifion-Jones, while an outstanding partnership between Freya Sackville-West and 44

Boma George at backstop and first post, and Shahnaz Javadi and Geni Carter at second and fourth posts, resulted in plenty of run-outs. Sophie Hazel displayed safe hands in taking plenty of catches, and consistent bowling by Rosie Alderton meant not conceding any unnecessary half-rounders. The team worked well together and went from strength to strength thanks to Mrs Joseph’s coaching.

We started the season with wins against Epsom and Eastbourne. Cornelia Bentsen and Anna Smith both had brilliant games, catching multiple players out. Unfortunately the next match against Combe Bank was the end of our winning streak despite excellent batting from Juhi James. The following three matches against Benenden, Cranleigh and Burgess Hill were also rather disappointing, despite the effective fielding combination of Rebecca Miles, Charlotte Coxon and Tina Hill. A week later some efficient fielding and determined batting helped us to achieve an elusive win against King’s Canterbury. The following week we played King’s, again, and Sutton Valence. Unfortunately we were beaten by King’s this time, but we beat Sutton Valence comfortably. The team enjoyed a successful season during which we improved greatly, evidenced by our 5th place in the U15 tournament. Felicity Whaites was a key versatile player at second stop. Cat Brown and Freya Hall were reliable fielders, securing many catches and stumping out many players on third post. Throughout the season Amelia Bell excelled, with great batting and bowling skill. Kat White on fourth post performed consistently. Sophie Holliday and Sophie Thomas had great throwing arms and Jess Wen on first post and Ellie Bayne at backstop also deserve praise. U13A Rounders The season started with a 17.5-20 loss to Holmewood House. We picked ourselves up to achieve wins against Sutton Valence and Lingfield with great batting from Hannah Daly and Ellie Skilton, and great catches by Lauren Tucker, Ellie Steiner and Phoebe Barker. In our next match we beat TWGGS 10.5-9. It was a close match but Pollyanna Rimell’s bowling was brilliant as always! Next we had another three-way tournament against Lingfield and Christ’s Hospital. We improved our score against Lingfield to 17.5-3. Unfortunately we lost to Christ’s Hospital 7.5-9.5 in what were very wet and windy conditions. The Coach: Charlotte Pearson teamwork of Vicky Robson, Annys Rogerson in the deep to Hannah Harrington and Charlie Bonner-Davies on second worked really well and enabled many ‘stumpings’ at second base. Our batting was consistent with Victoria Menard and Alice Thompson particularly strong, and Herin Han’s hits over first base were outstanding. The bowling from Liv Lloyd-Williams was both consistent and fast and often there were some very nifty passes from Liv to Franny Young who was very efficient on first post. Zoe Vanhegan

TENNIS U13B Rounders We won two matches and lost two, and competed well in all our games. In our first match against Holmewood House we batted very well and scored 19 rounders over 2 innings. In the field we also did extremely well and limited them to 15.5, to secure victory. Our match away to King’s Rochester did not go as we had hoped; their very strong batting side scored 14 rounders to our 4. However, we picked ourselves up for our next game against Sutton Valence, whom we beat very convincingly 17 to 5.5. Bad weather led to the cancellation of our match against local rivals Walthamstow Hall, so it was down to our last match against Christ’s Hospital for us to finish on winning terms. We did just that, batting really well in the field and fielding with efficiency to limit their score. We would like to thank Ms Morecroft for her excellent and fun training sessions and for this very enjoyable season.

We started brilliantly with comprehensive wins over Northbourne Park (10.5-1), St Edmund’s Canterbury (11-2) and Wellesley House (10-1) courtesy of great teamwork between Nell Rudd-Jones, Orissa Welsh and Annabel Jairaj at bowler, backstop and first post. The matches against Junior King’s and Ashford were much tighter affairs, but outstanding catches by Lily Snell and Charlotte Jairaj, coupled with excellent fielding by Grace Annetts, meant we were able to defend our score and win the games 3-1.5 and 5.5-3.5 During the whole tournament we scored 40 rounders and conceded only nine. Receiving our medals was a great way to end the day. U12A Rounders This was a very successful season with victories over Holmewood House (23-15), Sutton Valence (10-6), Lingfield Notre Dame (5.5-3 and 11.5-7.5), Junior King’s (15-11) and TWGGS (13-9). We suffered narrow defeats by just one rounder at the hands of King’s Rochester and Christ’s Hospital, and an exciting 12.5-all draw with Sevenoaks Prep showcased superb batting from both sides. However, the highlight of the season was winning the Junior King’s tournament.

U12B Rounders The season was very good, and despite losing some of our matches I think we definitely improved on our batting and our fielding skills. We had a strong fielding strategy, and worked well together to stop the opposition from scoring. I think we could have won all of our matches if we had concentrated more, and not taken some risky decisions. We played well together, and everyone in the team developed and made lots of progress throughout the season. Lara Gueorguieva’s batting was exceptionally strong and Flossy Coumbe made a very good second post. TENNIS Our stalwart third pair of Katherine Nickols and Caroline McMenamin often stepped up to the plate along with Zena Stead, and won vital sets against King’s Canterbury and Benenden to keep the unbeaten record intact. They also played an important part in the defence of the Kent Schools’ title, winning both singles and doubles to help the team beat Walthamstow Hall, Dartford Grammar and, in a tight and hard-fought semi-final, fierce rivals Benenden. Katherine is to be congratulated on her long and gutsy 7-5 singles win to preserve the team’s record of not losing a set, and the team went on to play Maidstone Grammar in a less testing final at Tunbridge Wells which they again won 6-0.

Senior GIRLS Tennis The 1st team are pleased to report another unbeaten season. We believe it is the fourth unbeaten year in succession and are pleased to have upheld this recent tradition. On Saturdays when the team was at full strength, we have been fortunate to be able to select, in rotation, two outstanding Year 9 girls from Cathrine Hogh, Josie Hogh and Ellie Knox, with the third playing for the U14s. When at full strength, Sevenoaks was formidable this season, starting with two 9-0 wins over Eastbourne and Felsted with the loss of only three games in 18 sets! Sophie Jenner and Chloe Broom proved that training long hours throughout the winter really enhances one’s game. They never looked under pressure and teamed up to great effect, remaining unbeaten. The Year 9 girls held the second pair position and produced many great performances, especially when teamed with less experienced senior players who gained great confidence from playing with ‘the youngsters’.

The only disappointment in an otherwise successful season was our failure to qualify for the national schools finals in Sheffield as we had last year. We did well to win through to play St Bede’s indoors in Brighton in the regional final. We knew they had strengthened their team with a nationally ranked player but on the day discovered they had two new imports too. Sevenoaks actually played phenomenal tennis to draw the match 3-3. However in a tense and eventually heartbreaking championship tie-break, St Bede’s clinched the final two points and claimed their place in the finals 11-9. The team would like to thank Ms Morecroft for her organisation and encouragement in all weathers, and Martin Whitehouse for his many hours of gruelling training which helps keep us on our toes and enjoying this great, yet demanding and frustrating game!

U15 GIRLS Tennis 2013 was a very successful and enjoyable year for the U15A team, who won five out of seven matches. Win or lose, our team has continued to support and cheer each other on, and we ended our season on a very high note when we won all seven matches comfortably against Sutton Valence. The pair of Hannah Wentzel, with her massively improved forehand, and Tirion Scully, with her outstanding volleys and backhands, always put up a good fight. Sarah Dodds improved notably over the season at every match and training session and she never failed to entertain her teammates; Susannah Gordon always made life easier for her partner with her massive serves and much-admired groundstrokes. Lizzie Roberts also had a triumphant season with very good wins, showing hugely improved volleys and more confidence at the net. Simone Deverall won every single match and, as captain, inspired teamwork and camaraderie. I feel our team has definitely made the most of the experience and have had a very successful year. Well done to everyone!

Throughout the season, the U15Bs also performed to a high standard. We began against Felsted, winning 8-1, and giving us confidence for the season. Unfortunately we lost the next match to a strong Eastbourne team, 0-4. Our mood brightened in a close game against Cranleigh, which we won 4-2. Considering we had lost to them in the past, this was a great achievement. In a close game against King’s Canterbury, we performed well, with Sophie Weller and Sydnie Hodgkins collaborating well as a pair. We won 9-0 against Haileybury through strong teamwork. To end the season, we drew pleasingly with Worth, 3-3, to finish on a high. Guy Howden

TENNIS win against Kent College Canterbury in Tunbridge Wells. Cathy Hogh and Ellie Knox went on to play some brilliant tennis to reach the semi-final of the U15 event at the Independent Schools Championships at Eton in July. In the semi they met a strong Culford School pair a year older and despite a spirited battle, they went down 10-8 in the championship tie-break. This was only their second loss, nationally, in three years.

Anna King and Phoebe Barker finished off their season in fine style at the ISCA National Championships at Eton. Here they won matches against Colston’s and Withington schools to qualify for the second round against a strong St George’s Weybridge team who beat us 6-0. In the next round they won three out of their four games but narrowly failed to qualify for the finals. Orissa Welsh and Louisa Webb also did well to finish second before bowing out to Benenden A in the play-offs.

Josie and Cathy Hogh played exceptional tennis to win the Harpenden U14 Tournament in May with the loss of only eight games in four best of three set matches. Their prize has to be the biggest, oldest, heaviest and most impressive shield in the country. Presented first in 1922, it took two people to carry it back to the minibus! U14 GIRLS Tennis This extraordinary season started in the Michaelmas term with Ellie Knox, Cathrine and Josie Hogh and Sophie Gull qualifying for the Aegon National Finals in Bolton in December, achieving an excellent second place to Talbot Heath, the only school to have beaten Sevenoaks at this level in three years.

The U14B team struggled for numbers and despite working really hard all summer were not as successful as the As with their results. An excellent 7-2 win over King’s Canterbury and 6-0 against Haileybury and Ardingly were the highlights of an enjoyable season. Thanks go to Pollyanna Rimell, Anna King, Phoebe Barker, Alice Tyler, Clara Tyler and Emily Bolton for stepping up to the U14s when needed.

Credit too to the regular A team of Sophie Gull, Martha Whitefoord, Lizzie Holder and Natasha Pat Morecroft Moufarrige for winning all their Saturday matches again this summer. The Aegon A squad played well to beat Benenden B and Tonbridge Grammar to qualify for the Kent play-offs. Here they met up with a stunningly strong Bromley High team and despite a valiant struggle by Anna King and a very impressive win from Orissa Welsh, the team bowed out by 5 sets to 1.

Meanwhile, the Year 7 team were having great success in their Kent Cup matches. After wins against Walthamstow Hall and an exciting semi-final versus Benenden they qualified for the Kent Schools final at Tunbridge Wells LTC. Here they played Sutton Valence whom they had already beaten during the season. Annabel Jairaj won her singles 6-0 as did Orissa Welsh and Martha Reeve. Senior Boys Tennis 2013 has been a great year for senior tennis with more friendly fixtures for boys on a Saturday. The season also saw a large contingency of younger players from Years 9, 10 and 11 rising to the challenge to produce some outstanding tennis in the senior teams. Players such as Russell Lam, Oscar Gordon-Reid and Alex Lenhart have, when needed, demonstrated the huge potential that boys tennis has throughout the school and I’m sure you will hear more about these promising players in coming years.

The 1st team saw convincing victories over local rivals Tonbridge (8-1), Sutton Valence (6-0) King’s Canterbury (6-0) and Worth. These strong performances continued in the Aegon Cup, as we beat Judd (4-2) and King’s Canterbury (6-0). We were grateful to get a walkover against a potentially strong Langley Park team and therefore qualified for the regional finals against St Bede’s in the indoor centre in Brighton. Despite some excellent matches, we lost 2-4. The season culminated in the team picking up their first piece of silverware in many years, winning the Kent Schools Championships in Tunbridge Wells.

SWIMMING After Founder’s Day, four U14 boys competed in the hotly contested Independent Schools’ Tennis Championships, where over 200 schools descend on the many courts at Eton for four days. Matthew Collins and Andrew Johnstone played well to beat a strong Shrewsbury pair 6-3, 6-1 and went on to get through two more rounds in the main U15 draw. Meanwhile, Oscar Gordon-Reid and Alex Lenhart lost to KCS but went on to win their pool of four in the Plate Competition. They then beat Rugby, St Peter’s and finally Radley 6-3, 6-0 to win the Phillips Cup.

Intermediate and Junior Boys Tennis The intermediate boys recorded an unbeaten season in the Aegon Cup and Kent Schools competitions. The squad became Kent Champions for the second year running, and Liam van den Hoek, Russell Lam, Oscar Gordon-Reid, Matt Collins and Dan Goodwin won most matches 6-0. The season started with the annual Independent Schools’ competition. This year the Sevenoaks team of 12 boys were drawn against New Hall, St Paul’s and Charterhouse and managed to win convincingly by 11 clear sets. Despite playing some excellent tennis the following weekend, Eton, Reed’s and Hampton proved slightly too strong for our boys who were eventually placed fourth. The Aegon Cup started with a 5-1 win over Tonbridge. This form continued as Liam, Oscar, Russell and Matthew managed to beat Langley Park, Ravenswood and Sutton Valence 6-0. At the time of writing they are now due to play Sir Roger Manwood’s in the county Aegon Cup Finals. Fortunately the team have already beaten this school in the Kent Schools Finals 5-1 at Tunbridge Wells to become county champions for the second year running and have high hopes of reaching the Aegon Regional Finals again. 54

The U13 boys have also impressed this year, beating New Beacon convincingly and going on to win their Aegon Cup matches against Judd 4-2, and Ravenswood and St Olave’s 6-0. They then came up against a very skilful Langley Park team and had to play with great confidence to earn a 3-3 draw. Fortunately Langley slipped up in one of their other matches to allow our boys to progress through to the county finals of this national competition. Congratulations to ‘Road to Wimbledon’ champion Dan Goodwin and to Andrew Johnstone for their determined and consistent performances throughout the season, earning them the Kent Summer Doubles title and a place in the successful ISL squad which came fourth at the start of the season. It’s been a great year, in which the winter work the boys put in with Martin Whitehouse, Dominic Cobb and Justin McHue paid dividends during the summer. We hope they continue to go from strength to strength and continue to compete for honours at the highest level. The squad once again had a strong season, pulling off some incredible results. Lewis Roberts recorded multiple top two finishes in the 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly, whilst also breaking the school records for these events. Alex Robbins was reliable in the 50m backstroke, winning the event on multiple occasions, and showed his commitment to the team by competing in additional events. Hugo Caven once again proved himself a valuable member of the senior team, never afraid to step up and compete against swimmers two years above him. The 4x25m freestyle team (Lewis Roberts, Alex Robbins, Hugo Caven and Alex Hill) showed spirit and determination to go unbeaten in the 4x25m freestyle relay, beating strong schools such as Whitgift along the way.

With three new members to the regular squad, the intermediate boys were able to field full teams for all this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s fixtures. Despite some tough opposition we won all of our galas but one, an impressive achievement. I would like to note especially that many members of the team had to compete in events which were not their strengths, or in multiple events.

We had a very strong team this year with Year 7 swimmer Lilly Snell giving us a boost. We successfully won all our galas with the last against Walthamstow Hall being tightly contested. We were all stunned in this event as we achieved a faster time than the Sevenoaks senior front crawl relay team with a winning time of 59 seconds! The team consisted of Lily Snell, Pollyanna Rimell, Olivia Kelly and Jess Wentzel. Although we had a very good chance of winning the Kent Championships, the school decided not to enter this year.

SQUASH 1st Team Squash (Boys) The opening match of the season was against Worth, and the Sevenoaks team were technically superior to their opponents, easily winning 5-0. Two repeat performances were delivered against Eastbourne and King’s Canterbury where they again won both 5-0. All the team performed well, particularly when under pressure to win close games. The team suffered its first defeat 1-4 against a skilled and well-coached Epson team, and will have learnt much from such a tactically demanding match. The boys returned to winning ways against St Bede’s and delivered another sound performance against Christ’s Hospital to secure a 4-1 win. The last match of the season against Tonbridge was a 3-2 win, which epitomised the fighting spirit of this team. This was a very successful season with some tough fixtures. The foundation of the team was its esprit de corps, which saw the boys motivating each other and resulted in their play reaching new heights of performance. 1st Team Squash (Girls) In the first match against Eastbourne College, our diminished team was beaten 0-3. Against King’s Canterbury we had an excellent win of 4-1. In the St Bede’s match, we encountered a team of boys who put us under a lot of pressure, and despite having Lucy Lawson at number 1, we were narrowly beaten 2-3. Against Christ’s Hospital we lost 1-2. In a return against St Bede’s boys, we encountered fast courts and strong opposition and were beaten 0-4. The squad, led by our excellent captain and role model, Jade Man, was a great example of

enthusiasm and reliability and cohesiveness. They were a pleasure to coach. Jade’s game has improved considerably, especially her movement about the court. As the season progressed, Lucy Lawson’s accuracy improved and her hard-hitting game proved to be very effective. Alex Conway’s volleys and drives on the backhand were very effective and gained her a lot of points. Alba Elliott’s good tactical sense has been a great asset, while Ellie Desmond is able to move her opponent around the court, and, like Alba, normally plays the right shot at the right time. With the departure of the complete squad, a new team are being trained. They are new to squash, but very enthusiastic! Joanna Overton-Fox Squad: A Conway, E Cornes, A Elliott, L Lawson, J Man (captain) U16 Squash (Boys) Unfortunately, we played only two matches, owing to numerous cancellations. The first match was a 4-1 win against Worth. Barney Sandeford dominated his opponent with his volleying, while James Bache annihilated the opposition with a lethal mixture of lobs and drops. Rory Alexander’s fast drives and subtle drops saw him win easily, while Will Golding had superior ability with his movement and tactical sense. The closest match was Jamie Holland’s at number 1, which he lost narrowly. Against St Bede’s, Rory and Barney were outplayed by players who made fewer errors on a fast court. James almost won the second game, and Jamie won the first game, but allowed his opponent to control the match with tight shots and accurate serves. Leo Danczak at number 1 was the only winner with a display of fast attacking.

The Summer term is always an awkward one for school golf teams across the country, with squads regularly decimated by external examinations. However the team played a number of fixtures against schools such as Reigate Grammar, Dulwich and Tonbridge. The highlights of the season were twofold. Firstly a five-man team finished as runners-up in the Smarden Bell Trophy for the second successive year, defeating Epsom College, Eastbourne College, King’s Canterbury and Reigate Grammar in the process. Tom Harrison produced a fantastic performance on the day to finish with 30 points; he was remarkably unlucky to lose the best individual trophy on countback. At the end of June a three-man team of Tom Harrison, George Baron and Harry Hobbs qualified for the ISGA National Plate Final played at The Shire,

London. The final is contested by the winners of 12 regional groups. All three performed admirably, producing a team total of 114 points to leave us as joint-runners up. Special mention must again go to Tom, who produced an amazing personal performance to shoot a gross 73 (one over par) to claim the best gross individual competition. Nigel Haworth

We did not have the best of seasons this year, but we had an exceptionally hard-working group of players who gave their best in matches and, more importantly, in every practice session.

This is my sixth year in the badminton team and, without doubt, probably our best season. We had a completely unbeaten season and there were some exceptional individual and team performances. We started our season with Tonbridge away, which is always one of our toughest fixtures. The tie went down to the final match between the 1st pairs. Chris Ying and Bernard Lee, having dropped the first set, battled their way back and won the match for the A team. The B team made the day complete with a stunning 8-1 victory. The theme of our season was consistency and we got into the habit of winning, which made us even more difficult to play against. We travelled a lot in the first half of the Michaelmas term and enjoyed good victories over schools such as St Bede’s, Lancing and St Lawrence Ramsgate.

Throughout the season we saw fantastic performances from our breakout player Manuel Seiters, who averaged over 10 points a game and racked up an outstanding total of 135 points. It should not be forgotten that even in losing efforts we had stand-out performances, one example being Jonathan Cheung’s fantastic 24 points against Alleyn’s, one of the best defensive teams in the league. Hans Lam also put in a stellar performance against Whitgift, racking up 12 points. In a great finish to the season we beat Caterham, keeping them to only 24 points. It has been more than a pleasure working with Coach Lewis and this team, as I have never played with a more enjoyable and enthusiastic group during my seven years at Sevenoaks. I am sure that the team will have much success in the future with hard-working, experienced players to lead the team forwards. SEVENOAKS SCHOOL 2012-2013

SAILING In December we held our annual dinner, with over 100 parents and sailors in attendance, where six full and six half colours were awarded. In the Lent term the focus shifted to preparing for two major events taking place at the end of the academic year, the BSDRA Finals and the RS Feva Worlds. In the lead-up to the schools’ finals the first team finished second at the Thames Valley Championships, with the U16s winning the South East Area Championships. We sent six boats to compete at Itchenor Schools Week, where our top performers were Massimo Mazzolini and Nic Yau who finished a creditable fourth overall, with Imogen Smith, captain of sailing, winning the Girls Trophy with Amy Swinglehurst for a second year in a row. At the BSDRA Finals the first team narrowly lost in the semi-finals but bounced back to beat the American team to finish third overall to round off a very consistent season that featured many top three finishes.

This was another very successful year for Sevenoaks’ sailors. We had 84 pupils going on the water throughout the year – our largest number of sailors to date. The new first team hit their stride early on with victory in their first event together, winning the BSDRA Autumn Championships in October, hosted by King’s Canterbury. Twenty-four sailors then took part in one of the biggest youth sailing events of the year, the RYA Youth and Junior Championships, where school teams compete with clubs and associations at U16 and U19 level. The school’s U16B team finished a very impressive sixth overall and have high hopes of challenging for victory next year. In the U19s Sevenoaks A narrowly missed out on the finals and finished third overall, a very impressive result for a school team competing against national associations who can pick from several schools. The first team then went on to beat several local schools and universities in November to win the Jack Cade Cup.

SEVENOAKS SCHOOL 2012-2013

The final event of the year saw ten Sevenoaks Sailors make the trip out to Italy for the RS Feva World Championships to compete against 195 other boats from 11 different countries. The school’s top performers were Hamish Oliver and James Rudd-Jones who finished 33rd overall and were the second school boat overall. The Sevenoaks sailors were runners-up at the This is Kent Newspaper group Young Team of The Year for the Sevenoaks Chronicle region. Nicholas Davies in Year 7 was selected for the Swiss National Team in the Optimist class and has been competing in Europe and North America over the course of the year. All in all this has been another very busy year for the sailors, all made possible by the support of the school, staff and parents. Andy Cornah
