SUMMIT, THE BROADMOOR’S ACCLAIMED AMERICAN BRASSERIE-STYLE DINING destination, has achieved a prestigious Forbes Four-Star rating. According to Summit General Manager Duane Thompson, a seasoned veteran with over forty years of experience at the resort, Forbes representatives meticulously assess every facet of the guest experience, including food and beverage quality, service standards, and overall atmosphere. “They have a very critical eye for detail,” he says.
Typically, suggestions for improvement are provided before a final anonymous assessment—a thorough procedure that can span several years. However, Summit secured its Four-Star distinction within eight weeks of submitting its application.
Thompson highlights the resort’s dedication to farm-to-fork cuisine and sourcing the highest quality ingredients, including fresh produce grown on the resort’s property, with the origins of ingredients featured prominently on the menu. Summit’s winning team includes Chef de Cuisine Rocio Neyra Palmer, five certified sommeliers, and a Cicerone-certified bartender. IT’S WORTH RISING EARLY TO CATCH THE first train to the summit of Pikes Peak aboard The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Stand at the 14,115-foot summit as the golden morning light bathes the surrounding peaks, and you’ll understand how the majestic mountain inspired schoolteacher Katharine Lee Bates to pen the poem "America the Beautiful” in the 1890s. A $100 million renovation of the historic railway adds new dimensions for modern visitors, with new and refurbished trains, a completely renovated depot, and the city of Colorado Springs’ Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center.
After the three-hour round-trip journey, drive from the Manitou Springs Depot back to The Broadmoor and relive the highlights over a leisurely lunch at Natural Epicurean. Afterward, meet The Broadmoor’s master falconer for a Falconry Experience. This unique opportunity offers a chance to learn about birds of prey and the history of falconry in a stunning natural setting.
Start with the Beginners Lesson, where you will get the chance to interact with a variety of captive-bred, trained birds and hold a trained hawk on your fist. During the Intermediate Lesson, you’ll venture out onto one of The Broadmoor’s scenic trails, where under the supervision of an expert, you will cast the hawk into a nearby pine and watch as it follows you from tree to tree, returning to your glove for a small reward. GET AN ADRENALINE-CHARGED START TO YOUR DAY WITH The Broadmoor Soaring Adventure. Meet your guides at The Broadmoor Outfitters’ outpost across from The Golden Bee. From there, you’ll be whisked away to “ground school” to kick off this exhilarating experience.
Learn the ropes as you prepare to traverse above zip lines ranging from 250 to 1,800 feet, with some moderate hiking. The Fins Course, available separately or combined with the Woods Course, features two 200-foot suspension bridge crossings and a 180-foot controlled rappel at the end.
After conquering the heights, take a moment to soak in the awe-inspiring beauty of Seven Falls, a majestic seven-tiered waterfall. Then treat yourself to a taste of Colorado with a delicious lunch at Restaurant 1858, nestled at the base of the falls.
In the afternoon, test your aim with a Wild West Experience, hosted by Broadmoor Outfitters. It begins with a chauffeured ride up Old Stage Road to a forested canyon, where you will learn and hone the skills once necessary to survive in the Wild West. Perfect your aim using standing archery targets. Have fun plinking away on the pellet gun range, where a variety of targets provide many options for a satisfying hit. Your guide will then show you the proper technique for tomahawk throwing, and you will have the opportunity to throw at timber targets. This experience lasts about 2.5 hours and has a minimum age of 5 years to participate.

In The Broadmoor Suite, you’ll find a traditional space with classic furniture, floral motifs, white trim with gold finishes, and wide crown molding. The Sea Island Suite features curved arches, plank flooring, light-colored walls, and white trim with black finishes. Both suites are located on deck five forward on each vessel.
