IN 1916, BROADMOOR FOUNDER SPENCER PENROSE INVITED a select group of drivers to compete for the fastest time on a newly constructed road to the summit of Pikes Peak. The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb—the secondoldest motorsports event in the country—has since grown to become one of racing’s premier events, attracting competitors from around the world. More than 30,000 fans attend the event, which includes a pre-race street party and other activities leading up to the big day.

THE BROADMOOR MANITOU AND PIKES PEAK COG RAILWAY—THE highest train in the United States and the highest cog railway in the world—is the most unique and comfortable way to reach the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. Departing from the historic town of Manitou Springs, the train winds through boulder-strewn canyons and forests of pine and aspen. Vistas of the Great Plains and the Continental Divide unfold as the train climbs above timberline, and a diversity of wildlife is often spotted along the route. Since 1891, millions of passengers have enjoyed a high-altitude adventure on The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Following a recently completed $100 million renovation, guests can now enjoy this upgraded experience, from the renovated station at the Manitou Depot to all-new train cars and tracks. This also includes the city of Colorado Springs' recent completion of the new Pikes Peak Summit House Complex. From the bottom to the top, it’s an upgrade that will help keep the railway running and remain a “must-do” attraction for many generations.

CLOUD CAMP IS AN INTIMATE, ALL-INCLUSIVE RETREAT AT the summit of Cheyenne Mountain. With its cloistered environment and top-of-the-world views, Cloud Camp is well-suited for couples, families with older children, and small groups and weddings. Meals are served in the Main Lodge, which features a bar area and a Great Room anchored by two large stone fireplaces. Daily activities include guided hiking and mule rides, archery, pickleball, yoga, and more, as well as the daily Cooking Club.
