at Grier
ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES The arts are universal at Grier, and participation is broad. With six full-time teachers in the Visual Art Department, Grier offers studio art electives, portfolio classes, and art history courses every period of the day. Many students concentrate in the arts and fill their academic schedules with up to three art classes each semester. As a result, 10-15% of graduates each year matriculate to the top visual art colleges and universities. Grier offers an abundance of art classes taught by practicing artists and designed around the elements and principles of design, which afford students the opportunity to enroll in academic classes such as AP art history and over 20 unique studio art classes in a variety of media including:

INTENSIVE PREPARATION Serious art students benefit from the experience of managing multiple deadlines in a nurturing environment. Girls applying to premiere art schools work closely with their portfolio teacher and college counselor to ensure a positive critique and admission to their top choice programs. All students are also exposed to the arts at large through events arranged by Grier faculty including:
Visiting artists-in-residence
Museum and gallery trips to New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C.
