Advice
are you a bull or a bear? By Independent Financial Advisor Rob Weale from Colwall
m
y article this time last year focused on the need for diversification when investing, and if ever I needed an example, this year has been it. October has been a rotten month for equities, wiping out any gains this year in one fell swoop, and in most cases, resulting in a negative return for the last 12 months. So what lies ahead? The Bears
The Future
The bears, or pessimists, think that rising US and UK bond yields and slowing global growth mean the best is over for equities. Interest rate rises in the US and the UK, and an unwinding of quantitative easing, have pushed up yields, or interest rates. Higher yields affect equities as improved returns on bonds makes equities less attractive by comparison and higher yields also depress the current value of future dividend income. October saw significant declines in most major equity markets, with falls of 9% in Japan and the euro area, 7% in the US and 5% in the UK and emerging markets. Bears concede these factors matter less when global growth is accelerating, but in emerging markets and the euro area the momentum of growth is slowing and US growth looks close to a peak.
For the bears the best is over, the bulls think that the recovery has more life left in it and that investors have become too pessimistic. As in all such debates only time will tell who is right but the one message that does come through is this; diversification is key, as is a reminder of your investment time horizon. If you don’t need your money in the short term, leave it invested; history has taught us that investment is cyclical, the investment returns will be positive over the longer term regardless of the market ups and downs. Whether you are a bull or a bear really doesn’t matter, a diversified portfolio will take this volatility in its stride coupled with a gentle reminder that you’ve invested for the medium to long term.
The Bulls Bulls tend to see the recent action in the US equity market as reflecting a shift in investors’ preferences, not a flight from equities. On this interpretation investors are moving from fast-growing, but pricey, tech stocks paying low dividends to cheaper ‘value’ stocks that pay higher dividends and will gain from strong growth. So, for instance, Netflix, whose share price soared until September fell 17% last month while Procter and Gamble, whose shares had drifted lower through the year, rose 7%. The UK and US market has seen bigger setbacks, in late 2015 and earlier this year on similarly excessive worries but subsequently bounced back, these setbacks proved to be buying opportunities. And then there’s the fact that US wages are, at last, rising. That could prompt companies to go on an investment binge, lending a new impetus to productivity and to profits.

LADY EMILY FOLEY Emily Foley, Lady of the Manor of Malvern, was a hugely wealthy and influential woman in Victorian Britain. She supported many good causes, including education, the church, Malvern’s first hospital, effective farming and care of the poor. Her position also allowed her controversially - to permit some building on ancient common land. This offended men like Stephen Ballard, a key supporter of the Malvern Hills Conservators whose role was to protect ancient common rights. While researching her latest book, Pamela Hurle used sources including the Foley archive in Hereford Record office, which revealed the story of a lady with not only a sense of entitlement, but also a deep sense of duty to help the deserving poor, long before the existence of a welfare state. Lady Emily Foley: A Remarkable Life is available from Malvern Tourist Information on Church Street, Malvern Priory, Malvern Book Co-operative, Ledbury Books and Maps, John Goodwin in Colwall or Aspect Design in Newtown Road as well as online.

fighting loneliness Christmas can be the loneliest time of year. Community Action Malvern & District is working to reduce the amount of time some people spend on their own this Christmas and New Year. ‘It’s not only at Christmas, but this time of year brings its own challenges’ according to Jacci Phillips, the charity’s Chief Officer. ‘Older people might be visited during the week by a home-help, but that could stop during the festive period. Day Centres close and if family live a long way away, older people can be alone for several days.’ This December, Community Action is supporting Poolbrook Café which is organising a Christmas Day Lunch. The café ran a similar lunch last year which, according to the café’s owner Alison Pearson, was a great success. ‘We had a mix of ages from people in their 30s up to someone aged 97! It’s not only elderly people on their own at Christmas and, as long as they are genuinely alone, anybody can come along.’ ‘Cooking for 25 people can be a lot of work, but the day itself is a lot of fun’ continues Alison. ‘Last year my dad played the ukulele and we had a singsong, making it a memorable afternoon.
Of course, loneliness isn’t confined to Christmas, which is why Community Action runs its Sunday Tea Club the rest of the year. ‘We regularly have people calling us who haven’t been out for many weeks. We might be the only person they’ve talked to in several days’ says Jacci Phillips. ‘We work with churches and other local organisations to run The Sunday Tea Club once a fortnight. Around 30 people come, our minibuses pick them up and they have a nice afternoon out.’ You can help support the work of Community Action Malvern and District by using the donation button on their website, communityaction.org.uk If you, or someone you know is interested in the Christmas Day lunch, please talk to Community Action by calling (01684) 892381

Business News
THE HOP POCKET SHOPPING VILLAGE CELEBRATING 30 YEARS The original spark for The Hop Pocket was Janet Pudge selling handmade beer jugs for a farming charity. She realised that people were interested in quality crafts and due to a decline in the hop industry there was redundant space in the hop kilns at the front of the farm house. In 1988 Janet and husband John ‘stuck a sign on the side of the road’ and opened the Hop Pocket Craft Shop with no real fanfare at all. Everything on display was on sale and return from local craftspeople that Janet knew or had met at craft fairs.
John and Janet’s sons, William and Matthew are now involved in a truly family business that is a world away from the farm on which they grew up. The hop kilns and barns they played in as children are now a vibrant mixed use site, home to artisan food makers, craft workers, even an accountant and a recruitment agency. You can find The Hop Pocket Shopping Village in Bishops Frome, off the A4103 Worcester Hereford Road.
The Hop Pocket Craft Shop was popular from the beginning and Janet is rightly proud that they never had a day without a customer. Very soon, in response to repeated requests, a tea room was opened at the back of the farm house, giving Janet’s customers a rest and a slice of homemade cake. More customers, and more crafts led to expansion of the shop, twice! 1999 was a huge year with a move to a larger building at the back of the farm house, becoming The Hop Pocket Craft Centre with a restaurant, Wine Company, Deli and craft units. Over the years more and more agricultural buildings have been converted, the Craft Centre has been expanded to allow more seating in the restaurant and diverse new businesses have thrived at The Hop Pocket. Car parks have been expanded, infrastructure improved and a couple of years ago a new building was built purposely for commercial use, the first non-agricultural building on the site.
Spend some time and browse our treasure trove of interesting antiques, vintage goodies, retro items and more. You’ll find us at just off the A4103 at Clusters Emporium, Hop Pocket Shopping Village, Bishops Frome, Worcester WR6 5AY Open 7 days a week up until Christmas Eve

All About...
the twinning association The Malvern Bagnères Twinning Association was set up in 2016 to promote links between the two spa towns. There’s an active social calendar and new members are always welcome. The group’s Chair, Gina Butler, tells us more.
How did the twinning come about? Apart from hard work by several dedicated volunteers, the idea owes its origins to serendipity. A French teacher from Bagnères was working in Redditch and fell in love with the Malvern Hills, because they reminded him of home. On return to France he was eventually elected as the town’s Deputy Mayor, but wished to keep alive his connection with our town. He approached Malvern Town Council to suggest the twinning, an idea that received a lot of enthusiasm. Visits were made, official documents were drawn up and in early 2016 we were officially twinned.
Are we a good match with Bagnères? As Spa towns we share many similarities, although there are notable differences as well. The town’s full name is Bagnères-de-Bigorre and since it is located close to the mountains of the Pyrenees, there is ski-ing nearby. The spa water is thermal and Bagnères has a beautiful leisure spa. Its not unusual to see people drifting around wearing large bathing robes at any time of day!
What does the Association do? First and foremost, we promote links between our two towns. This October, a group of 27 schoolchildren from Bagnères came to Malvern and had a lovely time. Next Easter, a 49 strong group of young members of Malvern Rugby Club and their families are travelling to Bagnères. Rugby is a big sport over there and our players are looking forward to plenty of competitive games! We also hold several social events in Malvern every year. We’ve held two Bagnères Bake-off events, where participants battle it out to create a perfect French cake! We’ve also held quizzes, a murder-mystery evening and leisurely games of boules. Recently Cora Weaver, a local historian, also gave a talk on all the towns across the world called Malvern.
28
Are there future plans? We want to develop our cultural ties with our twin town, perhaps involving local choirs or other musical or cultural groups. Our musical heritage seems to be a good match as Bagnères is blessed with plenty of musical groups of its own. Anybody is very welcome to join our association, you don’t need to have highly developed language skills. There are enough of us who can speak French to bridge any linguistic gaps and the group who visited from France earlier this year spoke English. We don’t currently receive any guaranteed external funding, although Malvern Town Council has generously supported specific educational and youth projects. Malvern’s Mayor, Councillor Cynthia Palmer sits on our committee and is fully behind our project. Mostly we run the association through members’ subscriptions and fund-raising activities. Any help you can offer us, even by becoming a Friend of the Association, is very welcome. If you’d like to find out more, you can get in touch with the Association’s Social Secretary, Denise McCanna on 07788 446874. The association has its own website, visit www.malvernbagnerestwinning.org

enjoy local this christmas A Baroque Christmas The Elgar Chorale is joined by instrumentalists to present a concert of seasonal music from the Baroque era. Taking place on Saturday 15th December, the concert includes music from the era of Gabrielli and Bach: these two composers stand at the beginning and ending of the Baroque period. Other music on the programme includes works by Schutz, Scheidt and other composers of the era. A free glass of Gluhwein and a mince pie will be available during the interval, and the concert takes place in the atmospheric setting of the Church of the Ascension, which is on the Leigh Sinton Road. Tickets cost £15, with student tickets at £5 and can be purchased by calling (01684) 594570 or by visiting elgarchorale.com Christmas Cards
The Barnards Green Extravaganza
St Wulstan’s Church in Little Malvern has a series of Christmas Cards for sale, based around its beautiful windows. The cards feature the nativity scene from a window designed by the Birmingham-based Hardman Studios between 1882 and 1892. Last year the cards raised almost £2,500 to help restore the organ. It’s hoped this year’s will help make a dent in the £90,000 needed for repairs to the building.
The Barnards Green Extravaganza takes place this year on Saturday 1st December.
The Christmas cards are available now and can be found on the dedicated website christmascardsinaidofstwulstanschurch.com
There will be all kinds of festive fun around the Green between 10am and 1pm, including a children’s puppet and magic show, craft activities, face painting, music, games and the chance to have your picture taken with a unicorn! You can meet Marshall and Skye from Paw Patrol and you’ll receive a free gift when you visit Father Christmas in his grotto. The day will be raising money for the Sunshine Children’s Centre in Barnards Green. Christmas Charity Concert The Christmas Charity Concert at Great Malvern Priory takes place on Saturday 15th December. Now in its third year, the two hour performance includes music from Malvern Hills District Brass Band and The Rock Choir.
For further details on local festive events, see www.allaboutmalvernhills.com

Money from ticket sales is in aid of the Mayor’s chosen charity Sight Concern and the band’s charity. The concert starts at 1.30pm, tickets cost £5 per person and are available from the offices of Malvern Town Council Offices or on the door.

FAMILY LAW SPECIALISTS, GIVING SENSITIVE HELP AT A DIFFICULT TIME Holiday Season can often spell the end for troubled relationships Whilst the Christmas break is one of the highlights in a year, for many of us, sadly a troubled holiday is often the final straw for many fragile relationships. January is well-known as a time of year when many couples decide that they want a new chapter in their lives having decided their current relationship is not working. Some people ask why this is and it appears that when people in rocky relationships spend more time in each other’s company, the problems become more noticeable than in ordinary day to day life. Often, many people give a failing partnership one last chance hoping that the Christmas break will rekindle the spark. However, whilst this sometimes works away from the pressing chores of home life, it can also bring into focus the relationship’s problems, and many will visit a Solicitor soon after the Christmas break has ended. It may also be that one party had their
mind made up, but kept their decision under wraps for the sake of the family. What cannot be underestimated though is finishing a marriage. This is an incredibly difficult step for the majority of people, but if divorce is considered the best course of action, then seeing a local Solicitor as soon as possible is still the best way. No two marriages are the same and it is important to deal with professionals, who are understanding and are experienced at navigating people out of a very traumatic period in their lives. With the correct professional help, whatever it may be, life can get better sooner rather than later. Speaking to people like us, and other relevant professionals, such as medics and financial experts will help point those struggling in the right direction. Anybody wishing to know more about family law matters, or any other form of legal help, can contact us at WLS Solicitors on: 01684 216777.
New Family Lawyer joins WLS We are delighted to announce that Wayne Phillips has joined WLS. Wayne brings a wealth of experience in Family Law having specialised in this area for the past 15 years. Wayne is a Member of Resolution, First for Family Law, an organisation committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes, and promotes a non-confrontational approach to family problems. He has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to relationship breakdown, matrimonial finances, child living arrangements and contact, as well as the preparation of pre- and postnuptial agreements.
He is also adept at dealing with complex and intricate cases involving extensive property portfolios, high net worth individuals, business and pensions. If you would like to discuss any family or matrimonial matter with Wayne, please contact him on: 01684 216777 or wayne.phillips@wlssolicitors.co.uk

Group
Queen mother's clothing guild A local group that knits for charity is going from strength to strength, partly thanks to an appeal in this magazine. The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild is a national organisation, which last year collected almost 30,000 items of clothing for distribution to worthy causes. Sheilah Daughtree wanted to re-start the Guild locally, which was previously had a thriving group. ‘I knew Jocelyn, the lady who ran our local group, and after putting out an appeal three of her original ladies got in touch with me. We held a coffee morning at Malvern Library in May and seventeen people came. We now have local groups in Malvern, Upton and Ledbury.’ Since then there’s been a further meeting and plenty of knitting and making; so much so, that the local members of the Guild completed an incredible 662 new items of knitting and some quilts! These were sent to St James’ Palace in London in November, where they were added to the national total before distribution to more than 70 different charities across the UK.
‘I was thrilled, considering we started the year with absolutely nothing!’ says Sheilah. ‘I’m hoping that our work will now continue, with occasional meetings and plenty of knitting to boost next year’s total. We’re already collecting and I’ve received our first baby quilt!’ ‘I’m delighted that people have responded so well and they’re so interested’ continues Sheilah. ‘Many people have told me they’d not heard about the Guild before and want to learn more. I recently visited our local groups to thank them for all the hard work and give them more details of the national collection. We’re looking forward to doing the same again next year.’ If you’d like to get involved, please contact Sheilah by calling (01684) 561872 or by email, s.daughtree@hotmail.co.uk You can read more about the work of The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild at www.qmcg.org.uk

The driving lens that takes you places Drivers Vision The most common line I hear in my consulting room is “I’m OK to drive, I’m sure I can see the number plate”. There’s more to a driver’s eyesight than simply being able to “read the number plate” at 20.5 metres. The DVLA provides a very basic visual standard for drivers and in most cases it is not difficult to achieve this. In fact many new test charts have a number plate test which can be used to determine whether the required standard is met or not. However, we must take into account the fact that we won’t be driving in a well lit consulting room identifying high contrast characters at a set distance. Drivers require the ability to perceive hazards approaching from all directions. They also require the ability to read road signs and markings as early as possible. They must be able to gauge the speed of oncoming and passing traffic. They must also be able to judge the distances of the cars and obstructions ahead of them as well as in their driving mirrors. Finally, drivers must be able to see in all levels of visibility, from bright glare to low lighting. A regular, thorough eye examination will not only reveal any deficiencies in a client’s driving vision but will also highlight any underlying health issues. An eye exam will involve firstly checking the level of vision and whether any improvement is possible with spectacles. While many clients will be able to achieve the DVLA standard without spectacles, they will be surprised at the extent to which their vision can be improved. In most cases, vision change is gradual and the driver is unaware that their vision has deteriorated. Some examinations will also involve checking the

contrast acuity which is a measure of the level of contrast that the subject is able to detect. Black characters on a white or yellow background are the easiest to identify. However, we are rarely presented with 90% contrast in real life. It is important to note that conditions like cataract will result in reduction of contrast acuity. Cataract will also result in glare sensitivity, faded or yellow colours and sometimes double vision with just one eye. An eye exam not only checks for common visual problems such as cataract but also for Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration as well as vascular conditions such as Diabetes and Hypertension. All of these conditions can result in loss of vision which will ultimately affect the ability to drive. In addition to examining the eye, a comprehensive eye examination will also involve a visual field check which will assess the client’s peripheral vision. The DVLA sets a standard for driver’s visual fields and your optometrist can advise you on this. Regular visual field tests are used also to test for conditions like Glaucoma and Pituitary gland tumours. Any defect in peripheral vision will impair the driver’s ability to detect hazards approaching from the sides. Eye examinations also include tests for binocular function. These will determine the accuracy of depth perception. Disruption of binocular vision could result in flawed depth perception which is critical for driving. The final outcome of the eye exam will most often be a recommendation for spectacles, if required. Having conducted a fully comprehensive eye examination, the optometrist is in the best position to give advice on eyewear. This will include

the correct prescription for driving glasses, any coatings or tints that may be required and even the best size and shape of the driving spectacles. Driving glasses must allow the wearer to see clearly, observe peripheral hazards as well as function in different light levels. The importance of tinted and coated lenses cannot be emphasised enough. Vision can be affected by reflections on lenses as well as disability glare from the low, bright sun or even oncoming headlamps. One of the most common complaints from drivers presently is difficulty due to glare when driving in the dark. The optical industry has responded with lenses that are designed specifically to combat disability glare. Many drivers use polarised sunglasses when the sun is low and directly in their eyes. Road Pilot lenses or Enroute Driving lenses help with driving in the dark. See better, go further. These lifestyle lenses allow you comfort in your driving regardless of weather conditions or time of day. The importance of regular and comprehensive eye examinations cannot be emphasised enough, especially for drivers. Not only can an eye exam prevent road fatalities but it can also result in the diagnosis of life threatening conditions. With winter round the corner many of us will start undertaking our daily commutes in increasingly difficult driving conditions. Can we really be sure that “seeing the number plate” is enough? Don’t take a chance... Book your eye examination today. Contact : A B Optics, 113 Barnards Green Road, Malvern, WR14 3LT - 01684 892586 email:info@aboptics.co.uk

David V Jones & Associates Spinal and Musculo-skeletal Therapy In Malvern
Registered Osteopaths with over 50 years experience between us
InterX Therapy The Interx is an advanced form of electrical stimulation. Its safe, noninvasive and used for treating pain of any origin or injury by promoting natural healing. This unique patented technology provides an interactive response to impedance (resistance) changes in the skin through biofeedback. The electrical impulses from the device or attachments adjust dynamically as the device encounters changes in the skin contacting the electrodes. The InterX device continues to adjust the stimulation as the body responds and reflects its changes through the skin. The InterX™ is applied typically at the site of pain/ inflammation. (It is often applied along the spinal column to stimulate the nerves). The sensation is a comfortable prickle. Typically pain lessens immediately after the treatment although there may be some residual pain remaining. The full effect from treatment is typically expected the next day. Often as a result of the stimulation reaching the central nervous system, you may feel sleepy. This allows the body to rest as it promotes the healing process. How does it interact with the body? The InterX sends pulses working through the skin at the
area of damage/trauma and stimulates the variety of nerve endings to pass the information to the central nervous system, where all the regulatory processes are taking place. By releasing the body’s own biochemicals (for example, endorphins, they are powerful natural painkillers) the body continues to work on pain and repairs the injury. As a result of this stimulation local microcirculation is improved bringing more molecules of oxygen and nutrients to damaged cells and removing waste products, which suggests how accelerated healing may take place. Main features include: • Non-invasive • Safe • No side effects • Treats Nociceptive and Neuropathic pain • Speeds up the recovery time • Can be used when patient is non responsive or intolerant to pain medication All Inter X treatment is provided by Heather Else at Orchard Lodge Clinic. Sessions last 1 hour and cost £80. For further information, please contact the clinic on 01684 568744 and Heather will deal with your enquiry.
Orchard Lodge Clinic is privately run by David Jones, GOsC Registered Osteopath and associates. All treatments are drug-free and use techniques recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Initial consultation (with treatment) costs £45. Follow-up sessions £40.

Well Being
surviving winter We are moving through the longest nights. What happens at this time of year? In the run up to the longest night we put up our decorations and lights, go to parties and come together as happy families at Christmas time. Or we see others doing that and our own attempt to hold off the dark fails — the winter can be a difficult time of year. More likely we are somewhere in between, with good days and bad days: holding off the dark with celebrations and light on some days, and other days our mood slipping into something gloomier. What helps? It helps to know that feelings come and go. The more deeply we examine our feelings the more obvious it becomes that they are always shifting and changing, even in small ways. When I used to fall into an awful mood one of the worst things was imagining that it would last forever – but when I really examined the evidence? What a revelation. Trusting that things will shift and change has been a comfort for me, personally, in darker times. It helps to trust that it’s good to do good things, even if they don’t bring results straight away. Your good things will be different to my good things, but for me good things are getting outside, getting up and moving my body somehow, and making wise choices about what I eat, read and watch. These may not lift you from the worst of moods straight away, but taking care of yourself and others is good to do regardless, and I trust that it helps lay down the conditions for better moods in the future. As the nights become shorter, and the days become longer and we move past Christmas and into the New Year we move away from parties and to new projects and new resolutions, and the adverts on our TVs and in our magazines change from selling rich sugary foods to selling diets. Sometimes we get a rush of new energy and plough that into the New Year, lifting ourselves up from where we were before. Sometimes we see all of those advertisements and articles about New Year’s resolutions and become disheartened
44
By Kaspa Thompson as we quickly fall into old habits or discover that we don’t have any energy even to start to change. What helps? The same kind of things: knowing that feelings come and go, trusting that it’s good to do good things and — importantly — being realistic. There’s no point setting yourself a list of ten great things to do if you only manage a few and then becomeMagic so disappointed it triggers apathy and of Christmas Concert feeling terrible. It’s much better to set a few goals that you can meet, and celebrate meeting them. Sometimes it feels like change isn’t coming, or that the roots of disappointment run deeply. I encourage you to reach out to get support. We can feel ashamed of asking for help — but the truth is no one does it on their own, and we all need to lean on other people, sometimes. Call a friend, book an appointment with a therapist or talk to a family member. The winter can be a wonderful time of year. I’m writing this at the tail end of autumn, there are a few golden leaves left on the trees and the sun is shining brightly. Later on I’ll make a pot of soup, and I’m looking forward to seeing friends later in the week. I trust that there will be good days, and less good days, and that it’s possible to move gracefully through them all.

Keeping your weight in balance during the festive season Keren Milton from Slim for Good has some ideas for keeping your weight in balance during the festive season. Christmas can be challenging if you are weight watching but here’s some easy tips to enjoy festive goodies without putting on a single pound! • Stick to a maximum of 3 meals a day including 25% protein. Enjoy any treats at meal times and stop eating for 4 – 6 hours in between meals to burn off excesses and balance your weight loss hormones.
• Christmas lunch isn’t the problem, it’s the mince pies, chocolates and alcohol that pile on the pounds. Be selective. Limit your indulgences and only eat what’s mind-blowingly appealing. My rule is: "If contains loads of sugar, it must be richly chocolatey or very lemony then I can easily RY & JOINERY REQUIREMENTS leave anything else!"
Slimming World? Weight Watchers? 5:2? Whatever diet you’re on, it’s essential to change your habits & behaviours to achieve long-term weight loss success Join my unique 3 month “Change for Good” programme to be successful in 2019 Starts 5th January 2019 £120 (or £100 with early bird discount if paid by 23 December) To book visit our website, email or call
• Focus on your portion size when temptations FOR ALL YOUR CARPENTRY & JOINERY REQUIREMENTS are endless. Dig out a special small plate/bowl and glass just for you and eat Christmas desserts with a teaspoon. You’ll automatically eat slower and appreciate the flavours more. • Always have one glass of water per alcoholic drink to improve hydration and restrict intake and take a Milk Thistle supplement over the festive season to support your liver detox function. • It’s just too easy to pop chocolates in your mouth without thinking. Keep them out of reach and buy chocolates in wrappers. Keep used wrapper evidence in a pile in front of you and I promise you will eat less!

First Aid Training Saves Lives
£
"Easily the best course I've been on" Sam, secondary school teacher
CUSTOM TRAINING If somebody collapses or suffers a serious injury or illness, their chance of survival depends on the training of the people around them. ‘Most cardiac arrests happen in the home and unfortunately, only around 8 percent of people in the UK survive to hospital discharge’ says Tim Cook, a paramedic who trains people in first aid skills. ‘This figure could be at least double if family members knew how to do CPR and had the confidence to do it until the ambulance arrives. As a clinician I became very frustrated by this, which is why I’ve set up a company offering high-quality training in life-saving skills for anybody.’ Tim provides training to people from all walks of life. He can arrange training for work, for sports and social organisations or even for a group of family and friends who want to learn how to stop a child choking, or how to help an elderly relative should they collapse. ‘It doesn’t matter if you are 9 or 94 years old, anybody can learn these skills’ says Tim. ‘The important thing is to know how to react should the worst happen. Do get in touch to discuss how you can learn these life-saving skills.’

blood brothers
returns to Malvern Theatres
Win a pair of tickets to this show at Malvern Theatres.
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.
Please answer the following question:
blood brothers
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail). The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. Blood Brothers will be appearing on stage at Malvern Theatres from Tuesday 29th January to Saturday 2nd February. Tickets are on sale at the Box Office 01684 892277 and online at malvern-theatres.co.uk
