Jonathan Dimmock plays the keyboard works of Dutch Renaissance composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck on mean-tone organs in Holland and Sweden. This recording uses two historic organs in Holland, including two of the oldest organs in the Netherlands. For larger scale works, Dimmock plays the massive North German organ in Gothenburg, Sweden. All of the organs are tuned in mean-tone temperament, which reveals much of the music’s original character. Jonathan Dimmock is a star in the organ world, with recognized recordings and performances of early music and contemporary works. A Grammy nominee who has performed on over 30 CDs, Dimmock is also the first and only American to have served as Organ Scholar at Westminster Abbey.

Where previously he concentrated on bringing the folk fiddling traditions of America and Ireland to the symphonic setting, here he utilized some of the most important musical inspirations he absorbed as a child: blues and jazz.
