Tchaikovsky’s popular Christmas ballet, presented by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Simonov. Tchaikovsky was a brilliant and resourceful orchestrator, and probably the greatest writer of ballet music the world has ever known. He wrote the music for The Nutcracker during 1891–92 to a scenario by Marius Petipa. The ballet was first performed in December 1892 at the Maryinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg.
