WELCOME to the nail family DIGITAL WORLD AUDIO pg 16 Originally founded as “Deathwatch Asia” in 2005, and still headquartered in Japan, DWA has subsequently become a global force in dark electronic music. In 2013, the label officially changed its name to “Digital World Audio,” reflecting its new global positioning and distribution within the industrial music scene. Renowned for high-end packaging, bonus content, and high production values, DWA has also developed a formidable reputation for identifying and nurturing emerging talent, having discovered and developed (among others) Terrolokaust, Surgyn, CygnosiC, and Detroit Diesel. Once the licensee of numerous overseas acts in Japan, since 2010 DWA has instead become a source of supply for European and American labels like NoiTekk, Infacted Recordings, and Vendetta Music. Since 2011 the label has been principal sponsor of the Resistanz International Industrial Music Festival, and since 2012 it has organized and sponsored tours for artists across Europe and North America, alongside acts such as Combichrist, Aesthetic Perfection, and Icon of Coil. Digital World Audio comes to NAIL Distribution via Vendetta Music.

Part stand-up, part confession, The Big Angry is Chicago-born comic Mike Schmidt’s debut album, and it’s unlike anything you’ve heard before. As with his cult podcast “The 40 Year Old Boy,” in The Big Angry Mike excavates his troubled past — and even more troubled family ties — in an earnest attempt to explain why at the age of 46 he is still, in his own words, “a fuck-up.” It’s a journey that is alternately hilarious, profane, violent, disturbing, and deeply moving, often within the same breath. We’re left with an unforgettable account of one man’s struggle to survive himself; an account that is, like all great comedy, both deeply personal and universal.

Whether you’re into punk or not has nothing to do with whether you’re going to fall in love with this record. You will. For more than just Street Dogs and Dropkick Murphys fans, these tunes are going to make people very excited, and consistently prompt one question: Will FM359 save us all and go on tour, bringing this revival to the streets? When this band set out to write and record these songs, nobody involved thought the result would be as profound as it is. The resulting gospel, as sung and played by these legendary musicians, is truly that: a gospel. Non-religious, and more like pages ripped from a diary, these songs pull from the best of their classic rock influences, their unbreakable punk roots, and some seriously powerful shit going on in their lives. They reach from all over the musical and emotional spectrums and pull it all back into one cohesive masterpiece.

Krom Monster is an improvisational quintet exploring improvised and electro-acoustic approaches to traditional Cambodian music and instruments. The band emerged from a series of residencies held with young musicians in Phnom Penh, led by David Gunn as part of a cultural project led by UK-based creative organization Incidental in collaboration with Cambodian Living Arts. Over a period of four years in the 1970s, the Khmer Rouge killed over 90% of Cambodian artists and musicians, decimating a large proportion of the country’s cultural arts. While efforts exist to resurrect lost music from before that time, there is considerably less effort going into stimulating new Cambodian music. This collaboration aims to change that, and the result is a full self-titled album release under the name Krom Monster, translating roughly as “monster band/music.” “The electronic treatment and experimental approach to track construction gives the album a unique quality … the album refreshingly turns any expectations you might have on their head, and establishes itself as modern experimental music.” — FUTURE SEQUENCE Track Listing: On France Street • Non Governmental Organisation • Khmer Storm Key Markets: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit, Atlanta, Austin, San Diego, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland

Expressionistic, sophisticated, evolved, overflowing, pitch-black. Just a few words, and a desperate attempt to properly approach ANIMALE(S), the fifth full-length record from French combo CELESTE. While their former albums PESSIMISTE(S) (2006), NIHILISTE(S) (2008), MISANTHROPE(S) (2009), and MORTE(S) NEE(S) (2010) were all finished in a few months, it took the band three years to craft this concept double album. Saffronkeira’s electronic sounds and Mario Massa’s trumpet wander unerringly through this musical landscape, from warm ambient sounds and rather abstract pieces to thrilling hymns and threatening sound storms. Sardinian sound researcher Eugenio Caria first saw Massa playing on a regional TV program, and was immediately caught by the musician’s immersive playing style. Eager to meet him, Eugenio asked around until he found Massa’s name and phone number, then immediately called him and proposed a meeting. Massa had always dreamt of collaborating with an electronic music artist, while Caria had always been eager to work with a trumpet player, having been fascinated by the instrument since childhood. It was love at first sight. Founded in 2010, Shock Frontier is the brainchild of Psychomanteum’s Robert Kozletski. Born from an increasing interest in harsher industrial sounds, and aided by long time friend Kyle Carney (Defiantly Fading), he now presents Mancuerda Confessions, an expertly composed and finely honed collection of shape-shifting, nightmarish emissions and radioactive tonalities, drawing inspiration from some of the early death industrial pioneers but adding an unique, densely layered, and atmospheric style. This is a soundtrack to a world that ends not in a cataclysm, but one that slowly decays and rots into oblivion, where swathes of ghostly textures, samples, and disembodied noises morph into murky ambient realms and caustic frequency reverberations pierce through a bleak, post-apocalyptic haze.

“Scaremeister is a project and partnership with two of my best friends and long-term collaborators, cEvin Key and Traz Damji. We made a deal with Groove Addicts in 2007 (now Non-Stop Music/ Warner Chappell), to compose a ‘volume’ of film trailer cues for horror movies. The following year we produced 31 cues that were very well received by the film community, being placed in many film trailers, including Inglorious Bastards, Transformers II, My Bloody Valentine, Book of Eli, and Halloween 2 (just to name a few). With the ongoing success within the film industry, we decided to release these works to the public so they can be heard outside theaters! The year 2004 saw Skinny Puppy release The Greater Wrong of the Right, their ninth album and first new full-length LP since 1996’s The Process. Rather than a rehashed revisiting of the band’s earlier sound, Greater Wrong of the Right showed the band take a breathtaking step forward with an inventive, urgent statement that showed time and loss had not dulled their urgency of innovation. Now, Metropolis Records is thrilled to not only reissue the album, but also announce its release on vinyl, remastered and pressed on heavyweight vinyl in a gatefold jacket with a digital download card enclosed.
“Razorblade guitars and shimmering synths over and above an X-Files backdrop … a real rollercoaster of peaks and dynamics with great vocals and superb drum programming, all seamlessly stitched together.”

Though he’s renowned for his roles in Acid Mothers Temple and Zeni Geva, and for leading the bands Koenjhyakkei and Koekyojinn, since 1985 Ruins has been Tatsuya Yoshida’s primary musical outlet. Beginning in 2006, Yoshida would occasionally fill the vacant second slot with alto saxophonist Ono Ryoko, one of Japan’s most indemand studio musicians. Their duo, Sax Ruins, transforms Yoshida’s compositions from heavy, nimble prog to dense, hyper-kinetic big band jazz, not entirely unlike Sonny Rollins sitting in with Magma and Carl Stalling on the Warner Bros. lot.

In honor of the band’s 25th anniversary, SKiN GRAFT unearths The Beatoffs (White Album), the lost debut LP from Strangulated Beatoffs. A quarter-century after it was recorded, the debut has surfaced bathed in tape hiss, beer, and tongue-in-cheek misanthropy. While some songs would be at home on Sub Pop just a few years later, others anticipate the sound Drag City became renowned for in the ’90s. Beatles standards like “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)” fit shockingly well into the Beatoffs’ oeuvre, while songs like “Norwegian Wood,” “Ticket To Ride,” and “Don’t Let Me Down” take on new layers of meaning under the Beatoffs’ watch.
