Over ten years ago, Pat Boone copyrighted the name “Gold Label” and formulated the concept of a “senior tour for singers.” All the major labels have dropped most of the major artists and living legends who are older now than 40 or 50. That upset him for two reasons—one, he admired almost all those artists, and two, he was one! To the giant companies, the Baby Boomer generation doesn’t exist; they’re only interested in kids and young adults. But Pat believed he could do both, developing young artists and continuing to give mature fans more records from the artists that helped grow the companies in the first place! He contacted a number of singers who’d sold millions of records, and who were still doing concerts all over the world, and told them about the Gold Label, and over the next three years released 26 new CDs by fabulous singers like Jack Jones, Glen Campbell, Patty Page, Cleo Laine, The Four Freshmen, ShaNaNa, The Ventures, and many more, including multiplatinum Roger Williams. There are lots more artists and records in the pipeline, and an almost endless parade of successful ones heading this way. The label has come across some wonderful new, previously unknown talent, and plans to introduce folks to them, too. Their latest discovery, Melody Federer, is featured on page 7.

It was present in the film The Jazz Singer, sung by Al Jolson; it has inspired composers such as Arnold Schoenberg or Max Bruch; and today it continues to inspire composers including Serge Kaufmann, Jean-François Zygel, and John Zorn.
Most Jewish-Arab singers were born in the Maghreb (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia). Many of them lived, or still live, in France, in decors evoking the 1930s, ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s.
