“Coco Montoya is one of the reasons people mistakenly think blues is easy music to play. His fierce attack is so expert yet sounds so effortless that it makes you believe anyone armed with 12 bars and six strings can pull it off.” — Billboard “Few blues guitarists performing today can top the intensity of former John Mayall sideman Coco Montoya’s torrid, Albert Collins-inspired attack. Shards of shivering, feedback-enhanced blue notes fly off the Southern California picker’s ax and cut deep into the rhythm section’s grooves.” — San Francisco Chronicle “Blistering contemporary blues … piercing attack; funky, shivery guitar tones; and aggressive, soulful vocals.” — Blues Revue Key Markets: Los Angeles (hometown), New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, Boston, Seattle

A new duo album from Theo Bleckmann, 2010 Grammy Award nominee for Best Classical Crossover! • Theo Bleckmann recently nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover! • Bleckmann’s adventurous and extravagantly beautiful choices have led his work to be described as “from another planet” (New York Times), “magical” (All About Jazz), and “transcendent” (Village Voice). • Schumann’s Favored Bar Songs starts with Yasuda’s composition “Roast Beef and Fried Potatoes,” which he dedicates to Schumann’s in Munich. Here, one gets the best fried potatoes with roast beef, so that even vegetarians sometimes become weak. • The musical program spans everything from the bar classic “As Time Goes By” to “Good Morning Heartache” and “Just A Gigolo.” From the first sounds, one can feel the special atmosphere of Schumann’s Bar. • Decorative liner notes include recipes for fabulous cocktails including the Kyoto Fizz, Sake Highball, and more. Fumio Yasuda: piano Theo Bleckmann: vocals Track Listing: Roast Beef and Fried Potatoes • As Time Goes By • I’ve Got The World On A String • In A Sentimental Mood • Send In The Clowns • Am I Blue • Moulin Rouge • Estrellita • A Child Is Born • Someone To Watch Over Me • Love Me Or Leave Me • Good Morning Heartache • Last Night When We Were Young • So In Love • You’d Better Go Now • God Bless The Child • Just A Gigolo “Vocalist Theo Bleckmann is one of the most flexible and uncategorizable figures on the New York scene; since the mid-90s he’s been doing his thing in a niche of his own invention, somewhere between jazz, cabaret, classical, experimental, and improvised music.” — Chicago Reader

“[Bleckmann’s] a gifted singer (and twister) of songs, his voice flexible and rich, his phrasing sensitive and clear … which makes his precise articulation such a treat.” — DownBeat “The most transcendent vocal album in many a moon (for my money, anyway) reminds me of Björk’s Selmasongs. Bleckmann’s voice and Yasuda’s orchestrations have the same blissfully troubling emotional pull.” — Village Voice “Bleckmann possesses technique so colossal, yet so meticulous, he can seem otherworldly, an android-like embodiment of sci-fi vocalisms, a bodily vessel for that voice. Still, whether accompanied by actual words or not, the sounds wrought are undeniably the product of the indissoluble bond of that magical, futuristic technique with the spectrum of suffering and celebration emanating from the soul of their maker.” — All About Jazz Key Markets: New York (hometown), Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco

New Releases • Mohsen Namjoo is the leader of Persian rock, called “Iran’s Bob Dylan” by the New York Times. • On this CD, Namjoo treads the dangerous thin line on the fragile high wire of an ancient culture and demonstrates the mad courage to carve new paths using the spiritual and artistic tools of his predecessors. • Namjoo gives the traditional Persian style a more modern rendition that attracts younger generations while simultaneously blending his music with western traditions of rock and blues. Mohsen Namjoo: lead vocals, setar, baghlama Golshifteh Farahani: backing vocals, piano Gerardo Balestrieri: backing vocals, harmonica, keyboard Christopher Knowles: bass, electric guitar Geremia Vinattieri: drums, percussion Said Chavoshbaran: tombak, daf Track Listing: Hammash • Shams • Dela Didi • Qashaqi • Binazir • Kurdish folk song • Cielito Lindo • Gladiators

“He plays the setar, a traditional Persian lute, and is a master of classical Persian literature and poetry. But the sounds he draws from the instrument, along with his deep voice and his playful but subtly cutting lyrics about growing up in an Islamic state, have made Mohsen Namjoo the most controversial, and certainly the most daring, figure in Persian music today.” — New York Times

• In 1967, Tom Zé created the Tropicalia movement along with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. The movement called for both a new aesthetic and a new Brazil at a time when the country was under the thumb of a military dictator. In 1990, David Byrne played an instrumental role in troublemaker Tom Zé’s comeback by producing several of his albums. • Whimsical and provocative, Tom Zé’s music is impossible to classify. Though rooted in the tradition of the northeast where he grew up, it’s been shaped by the hyper-urban environment of São Paulo, where he now lives. • Lyonel Kouro uses painting and a scratch technique on 35 mm film to create the visual universe that permeates this film. In an interview with Rémy Kolpa Kopoul (Radio Nova’s renowned “connector”), Tom Zé talks about women, Brazil, and himself. • Portuguese with English/French subtitles. Stereo 5.1 Sound. • Playable in all regions. Approx run time: 47 min. Featured Songs: Ave Dor Maria • Mulher Navio Negreiro • Proposta De Amor • Pagode-Enredo Dos Tempos Do Medo • O Amor e Um Rock • O Pib Da Pib • Elaeu • Feira de Santana “One of Tropicalia’s oddest and most fascinating artists since the 1960s … often compared to American innovators like Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa.” — PopMatters

“Tom Zé began his career together with Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, and Maria Bethânia. As a composer, he influenced Caetano and many others and delivered an expressive body of work through his own discography. A restless thinker, he was adept at modern erudite music experimentations, yet he was always ignored by both industry and audiences until he was discovered by David Byrne.” — All Music Guide

Originally released in 1999, the Yoshida Brothers’ debut album Ibuki is getting a well-deserved re-release from Domo, marking the first time it has been available in the US market. • When originally released, this disc sold over 100,000 copies—an incredible feat, since up to that point most tsugaru-shamisen recordings rarely sold more than 1,000 copies in Japan! • The album features mostly traditional tsugaru-shamisen songs, though hints of the brothers’ signature style were starting to emerge. From the very beginning, it was clear that the group was bringing this ancient three-stringed instrument into modern times, interpreting its sound for a contemporary audience. • This disc deservedly turned the Yoshida Brothers into rock stars in their native land, another rarity for tsugaru-shamisen instrumentalists. Hear where it all began! • Full promo servicing to publications & retailers, along with national and regional co-op ads. • Multi-tiered radio campaign targeting NPR, nationally syndicated and commercial specialty programs, CMJ & NAR reporting stations, selected AAA stations, satellite providers, webcasters, and regional public broadcasters. Additionally, internet radio and podcasters will be serviced. • An aggressive online marketing strategy will be implemented to spread awareness via viral and guerilla marketing methods, including online radio, blogs, ringtones, podcasting, digital downloads, and email advertising as well as extensive crosspromotions with high-traffic websites.

But they also expand on it. In their own compositions, they riff on themes from the old songs, incorporating other instruments and elements from jazz, classical, flamenco, rock, the blues, and even techno. The music is high energy, and it is highly improvisational.” — Boston Globe “Japan’s Yoshida Brothers are among world music’s hottest groups, mixing the island’s traditional music with global dance beats. Yet, the origins of the duo’s trademark instrument lay not in Japan, but in China—and that makes the Yoshida Brothers’ eclectic updating of a classic Japanese sounds a pan-Asian triumph.” — The Globalist Key Markets: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, Denver, Philadelphia, San Diego

“Kitaro’s style is the epitome of the contemplative, highly melodic synthesizer music often associated with the new-age movement.” — VH-I “In the 1970s, Kitaro brought melody to space music and carried that through to ambitious works of orchestral world music on albums like 1990’s Kojiki. Fans of the synthesist should find a lot of familiar territory here.” — John Diliberto
