Korea: The Forgotten War 1950–1953 2-Disc Set In August 1945, following the surrender of Japanese troops in Korea, American and Soviet negotiators agreed to an administrative division of the peninsula at the 38th parallel. With the nation divided between two opposing political systems, the seeds of civil war had been planted. NTSC, B&W, Dolby Digital, Menu Language English, Full Screen. Disc 1 follows the first year of the Korean conflict. On June 25, 1950, North Korea unexpectedly attacked and overran US and South Korean troops, pushing them to the Pusan perimeter. Aided by General MacArthur’s brilliant counterattack at Inchon, the North Koreans were driven back past the 38th parallel to the Yalu River, the boundary of Chinese Manchuria. In November the Chinese launched their first offensive. UN forces were pushed back below the 38th parallel, and in January of 1951 evacuated Seoul. Fans of Cambodian rock band Dengue Fever finally get a chance to see the band’s longawaited documentary film Sleepwalking Through The Mekong! The documentary follows the Los Angeles-based band on their 2005 journey to Cambodia to perform ’60s and ’70s Cambodian rock ‘n’ roll in the country where it was created—and very nearly destroyed. More than a “rockumentary,” the film serves up a portrait of modern Cambodia as the band tours through Phnom Penh and beyond, crossing a great cultural chasm with the same spirit of Cambodia’s original rock pioneers. The package features a DVD as well as a CD soundtrack of the film that chronicles the band’s trip to Cambodia. Dengue Fever was the first Western band to perform Khmerrock in the country it was created, and this set features some of the band’s performances with master Cambodian musicians. Sleepwalking Through The Mekong has been presented at film festivals, music festivals, museums, and one-off screenings including the Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival in New York, the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, the Hawaii International Film Festival, the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and a host of other venues. Dengue Fever and director John Pirozzi have also screened the film before live performances, and held Q&A sessions with their audiences. The band will continue to do this at future screenings to make the film presentation and live show interactive, and thus more personal for the audience. Dengue Fever’s music has been featured in a number of television shows and films including HBO’s True Blood, Showtime’s hit series Weeds, City of Ghosts, Must Love Dogs, and Broken Flowers.
