Balboa Island is legendary British rock group The Pretty Things’ long-awaited eleventh studio album in a forty-three-year recording career! Their first CD release in over eight years, many already regard it as on par with the band’s very greatest ’60s and ’70s recordings. From the stadium-sized rock of “All Light Up” to the raw acoustic guitar blues of “Feel Like Going Home” and the Beatles/Abbey Road style of “Dearly Beloved,” The Pretty Things have crafted a dark album—brooding, powerful, mysterious, and edgy. These thirteen new songs—mostly originals, but also including an acoustic cover of early Bob Dylan song “The Ballad of Hollis Brown”— have a rawness, intensity, depth, and passion unmatched by any of the band’s contemporaries: the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, or The Who. None of the class of ’64 has enough gas left in the tank to make an album like this! Founded in 1964 by lead vocalist Phil May and lead guitarist Dick Taylor—who was the Rolling Stones’ original bass guitarist prior to starting The Pretty Things—the band has always followed its own fiercely independent path. Although the huge international breakthrough of the Rolling Stones or The Who has eluded the group, the members’ uncompromising musical integrity has given them a cult following around the world.
Press Quotes “One of the greatest R&B bands of all time—real wild!” — Van Morrison “The Pretty Things always made the Stones look tame, and the time has definitely come for their renaissance.” — Dave Gilmour, Pink Floyd “The Pretties were great on stage—always far more rebellious than The Stones. You could like The Stones, but if you were a real rebel, it was always The Pretties.” — Gary Brooker, Procol Harum

Rob Schrab Twigger’s Holiday Genre: Comedy Label: Slow January DVD: JAN 107 Price Code: M Region Code: 0 NOT AVAILABLE IN CANADA
Featured Artists Overview
Rob Schrab: creator, writer, director
Underrated and full of talent, Rob Schrab is a comic book creator, actor, director, writer, and film producer. In 2004 he co-created, with partner Dan Harmon, the alternative television network/website Channel 101, which spawned the original VH-1 series Acceptable TV produced by Schrab, Harmon, and Jack Black. He also created the comic book Scud: The Disposable Assassin, which was optioned as a possible film by Oliver Stone in 1997. Schrab, along with Dan Harmon, wrote the cult television pilot Heat Vision and Jack starring Owen Wilson & Jack Black and directed by Ben Stiller. Despite the Fox Network not picking up Heat Vision, the pilot gained an online following and is still widely shown at film festivals. A script for the Heat Vision and Jack feature film is in the works. Additionally, Rob Schrab co-wrote the script for Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis’ animated film Monster House. Recently, he has been directing (as well as appearing in) the Sarah Silverman Program for Comedy Central, and he directed the video “Crooked Teeth” for Death Cab For Cutie’s DVD Signs. Twigger’s Holiday, Schrab’s mixture of live action and animation, was in Channel 101’s prime time slot for five consecutive months. Twigger’s pilot episode rocketed straight to #1 in March 2004, propelled by a refreshingly simple, childish energy and catchy original songs. This DVD collection contains all five episodes, with director commentary and bonus features exclusive to this release.
Press Quotes “What is Rob Schrab smoking?” — Oliver Stone “[A] Peanuts-on-LSD saga.” — TeeVee.com “Rob Schrab is the mad genius that has dabbled in nearly every corner of the arts, from comic books (Scud: The Disposable Assassin) to television (he co-wrote the unaired pilot Heat Vision and Jack) to film (he designed the brainwashing sequence in Zoolander and co-wrote the upcoming Monster House).” — UGO.com
Selling Points • Approximate run time: 25 min. • Contains all five episodes of Twigger’s Holiday, with director commentary and bonus features exclusive to this release. • Rob Schrab is director/executive producer of the Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central and co-creator/producer of Acceptable TV on VH-1 (hosted by Jack Black). • Three-month PR campaign by 1-Up PR. • SPECTRE Entertainment Group will throw release party in Los Angeles.

Ethiogroove recreates the atmosphere of Ethiopian star Mahmoud Ahmed’s first encounter with the Either/Orchestra, an American big band famous for its renditions of Ethiopian standards. The DVD includes rehearsals and interviews, followed by a superb concert at the 2006 Banlieues Blues Festival. Anaïs Prosaïc skillfully captures the ensemble’s subtleties on film while providing a veritable history lesson on modern Ethiopian music. Mahmoud Ahmed’s earthy voice, dynamic stage presence, and funky songs combine to make him one of the greatest voices of pop music. Here, he is accompanied by the Either/Orchestra, a ten-piece jazz ensemble based in Cambridge. Founded in 1985 by saxophonist/ composer Russ Gershon, the E/O combines the agility and freedom of a jazz combo, the raw power and subtle coloring of a jazz orchestra, and the deep grooves of Afro-Latin music. Now in its twentieth year, the group’s continuing evolution has made it stronger and more accessible than ever.
Press Quotes “Mahmoud Ahmed’s voice is urgent and clear as it entrains and entwines with the unique intervals and open spaces of traditional Ethiopian melody, communicating tales of tortured love and melancholic suffering and regret in a language rich with multiple meanings and metaphors.” — Dusted “Mahmoud Ahmed struts his acute rhythmic sensibilities—his knotty phrasing both mirroring the taut groove and providing it with ace counterpoint.” — JazzTimes “One of the jazz world’s most gifted and adventurous big bands, blessed with strong individual soloists who subsume themselves to an even stronger collective sound, one that can embrace supple Latin jazz, sinewy blues, sly funk, and slippery world beat rhythms.” — Washington Post “Thrilling charts and hip juxtapositions of classic jazz, cool pop, and forward-looking original tunes.” — Billboard “Balancing the charismatic flair of the swing era with a smart and energetic eye towards the next century … rich brass harmonies and splendidly smooth transitions … subtle arrangements and even spicy romanticism.” — Jazziz
Selling Points • This film is a tribute to Ethiopian song, exploring the debt that jazz, blues, and rock musicians owe to African music. • Recorded live at MC93, Banlieues Blues Festival, April 7, 2006.

NAIL WELCOMES A SILENT PLACE TO ITS ROSTER! Part of the Small Editions Company, A Silent Place is a southern Italy-based label releasing vinyl and CDs with the aim of giving vent to the passions of psych free-folk traditions and the hypnotic sonorities of drone music. In about only two years, A Silent Place has become one of the most important Italian independent labels.
Overview “A New Astronomy is Jennifer Gentle at their most experimental, featuring drones, repetition, acoustic pieces, [and] the occasional song.” — Terrascope UK Dedicated to Giovanni Paneroni, amateur astronomer and misunderstood genius, A New Astronomy is probably the most eccentric and out-there Jennifer Gentle release to date. Recorded mostly in Marco Fasolo’s bedroom on a four-track cassette machine, the album was conceived as the imaginary soundtrack for some of the member’s most bizarre, vivid dreams—obviously interspersed by the occasional nightmare. Grainy, hallucinated musical scores depict the beautiful, the scary, the annoying, and the simply absurd. The album runs the gamut from ghostly ambient drones to brain-damaged acoustic sketches, covering everything in between—including furious guitar freak-outs and an homage to British ’60s producer Joe Meek.

Overview “Roberto and his brother Maurizio are the highly advanced life forms crewing the mysterious starship that goes by the name of My Cat Is An Alien (MCIAA), plotting a quixotic course through three millennia of cosmic music, from the celestial drones of the Pythagorean monochord onwards, to land up in the gravity-free realm of the No-mind.” — Tony Herrington, The Wire CD reissue of the first installment in the Cosmic Debris split art/LP series set up by Maurizio & Roberto Opalio. This volume sees the two space brothers alongside Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and his all-star ensemble Text of Light (here featuring Alan Licht, DJ Olive, Ulrich Krieger, and Tim Barnes). Their track, “033103 Paris,” was recorded live at Centre Georges Pompidou in 2003 and mixed in dual mono by Ranaldo & Licht at NYC’s Echo Canyon studio. MCIAA’s piece, “Everything Falls Like Cosmic Debris,” is a conceptual overture to the whole series, performed in April 2006 at their secret recording space Alien Zone, located in the Italian Western Alps.

Overview “MCIAA play a kind of space rock in reverse … [Marclay & Lee’s] edit of a 2002 live show is jagged and electric, as enervated and mercurial as their hosts’ work is brooding and suffused with sleepy menace.” — The Wire The re-release of a split LP on Opax Records—a special limited edition of 100 LPs with original wood paintings by Roberto Opalio. This final release in the split series sees the Italian cosmic duo sharing space with well-known audio/visual artist, performer, and turntable innovator Christian Marclay together with cello improviser Okkyung Lee, an ubiquitous figure in the downtown New York avantgarde scene. Their track, “Rubbings,” is the result of a live performance recorded at New York’s Tonic in December 2003. My Cat Is An Alien’s piece, “Beyond the Limits of the Stars/Beyond the Limits of the Grooves,” was recorded in 2003 at the Space Room Studio in Torino and was kept safely in the archives until September 2005, when it was completely re-mixed and edited for this release.

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and leader of the Acid Mothers Temple, Kawabata Makoto uses this solo performance to express all his mantric cosmic vocation to space sonorities! He took inspiration from the Popul Vuh album Hosianna Mantra during his visit to A Silent Place’s headquarters in late Winter 2006. On a sunny Sunday afternoon spent in the countryside eating and drinking Apulian specialties and listening to some great experimental records, Makoto and his Italian friends Pierpaolo and Pasquale made the decision to start this cooperation. Back in Japan a few days later, Makoto recorded Hosanna Mantra at the Acid Mothers Temple using electric guitar, bouzouki, and sitar. In his own words, “Music, for me, is neither something that I create, nor a form of selfexpression. All kinds of sounds exist everywhere around us, and my performances solely consist of picking up these sounds, like a radio tuner, and playing them so that people can hear them.” The result is this new fantastic sound from the cosmos—a quite simple gem of crystalline beauty.

Muddy Speaking Ghosts Through My Machines is the brand new album from Fabio Orsi and Gianluca Becuzzi—a strange duo, considering the differences in their artistic backgrounds. Fabio Orsi is a young talent. After his first album, Osci (SmallVoices 2005, produced by Gianluca Becuzzi), he received a lot of positive feedback worldwide. This was confirmed by his second official release, For Alan Lomax (A Silent Place 2006), a split with cosmic Italian duo My Cat Is An Alien. Gianluca Becuzzi is a very well known member of the Italian experimental scene since the ’80s, under many different aliases. Recently known as Kinetix, Becuzzi’s latest release is the well-appreciated Memory Makes Noise (SmallVoices 2006) a great electro-acoustic pearl. The unexpected encounter between the different forces, experiences, and visions of these two artists melts perfectly on this album. Drones and rumors, pouring between distant voices and centenary blues songs from the Alan Lomax archive, tow off shreds of ballads, guitars, and old keyboards floating on the vibrant surface of a fairy river. Rapture and sweet loss are the main sensations. This could be listed as avant folk, or experimental blues, or ambient roots, or contemporary aesthetics and aching nostalgia—or we can just say: listen to it!

Overview “Another amazing sonic document from the one-man guitar outfit known as Fear Falls Burning.” — Aquarius Records A set of twenty-eight minutes of new music by Fear Falls Burning. On each side, Fear Falls Burning explores the darker, nihilistic regions of drone music. Minimal repetitive motifs slowly evolve and expand over fourteen minutes (per side) into two unsettling harmonies of solitude. All performed live and recorded directly onto hard disc, there’s no editing involved in order to maintain the spontaneous interaction of the guitar with its effects and vice versa. The man behind Fear Falls Burning is just the orchestrator, while the guitar speaks the language. With all the power and noise and aggression and subtlety that comes from a single man performing real-time on the electric guitar through a maze of pedal effects, notes and chords shift and multiply over time into dense and tranceFear Falls Burning inducing walls of sound. Fear Falls Burning succeeds in uncovering a new language that stretches We Slowly Lift Ourselves time and brings the listener to the edge, entrancing with the repetitive yet pure sonic presence of Dust the electric guitar. The result could be compared to contemporary drone & minimal ambient acts like Growing and even Sunn O))). The sounds vary from gritty, dirty guitar loops to long sonic landscapes Genre: Avant Rock with dense walls of sound. Muhal Richard Abrams: piano
A fantastic discovery! Vision Towards Essence is an incredible document of pianist Muhal Richard Abrams in a live solo performance in front of an enthusiastic audience at the 1998 Guelph Jazz Festival in Canada. The performance found Abrams at the peak of his powers, playing an uninterrupted sixty-minute fully improvised piece, and this release is an unedited, full account of that performance. Abrams is perhaps best known as the founder of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), the organization from which sprung such luminaries as Anthony Braxton, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, and Henry Threadgill. Though Abrams has composed for everything from duos to big bands, and is currently working on a commissioned piece for full symphony orchestra, he has said that the solo improvised performance is the pinnacle of his art. Each solo performance forces him to extemporaneously draw on his wellspring of experience and intuition. The performance on Vision Towards Essence veers between passages of all-out power and the delicately mesmerizing. Without chord changes or vamps to fall back on, it represents the height of spontaneous artistic invention.
Press Quotes “Hugely influential, Abrams is one of the most important catalytic forces in contemporary jazz and improvisation.” — Penguin Guide to Jazz “A venerable pianist and composer.” — Nate Chinen, New York Times

Overview “Don Cherry, more than any other artist in the jazz of his era, pioneered the music’s internationalist nature that has now come to be commonly accepted as an integral part of its character. The individuality of Cherry’s contribution to the history of jazz has often been unfairly obscured by his admittedly important association with the music of Ornette Coleman. While the (pocket) trumpeter’s position as Coleman’s front line partner in the altoist’s first revolutionary quartet was indeed a major one, Cherry’s role as one of the founders of the genre that is known today as ‘world music’ is equally significant.” — Russ Musto Live performance from the legendary Café Montmartre. NAIL WELCOMES RAD RECORDS TO ITS ROSTER! RAD Records is a new publishing ramp for curiosities and collectibles sprung from a collaboration between Marriage Records and Little Wings: skateboards, music, posters, stickers, and souvenirs set for trickling release in an effort to make all things RAD!
“The Tribe of Awestruck Wonderment can now count freaky-ass stoner boy Kyle Field and his Little Wings as one of its silently but steadily growing crew.” — Philadelphia Weekly
Overview Little Wings is the musical arm of acclaimed visual artist Kyle Field, with a fluctuating lineup of other talented musicians. Little Wings’ transient, hippie-ish lyrical tones smack of West Coast Buddhistflavored beat poetry in the early spirit of Richard Brautigan, although not without imparting a rhymed pop sensibility unprecedented in the American underground. Field has professed to be simply a “writer” and it is this mantra that characterizes all of his work and pervades his clear, unfettered songs. Soft Pow’r, the latest in a distinguished and celebrated list of albums, is filled with songs that stick with the listener due to their freeness and honesty.

Overview
Club Hits to Hit the Clubs With, the debut album from San Francisco’s All Teeth and Knuckles, would be hard-pressed to be more diverse. Like the city the group hails from, the music is both eclectic and distinctive. It spans a multitude of genres, from the synth-laden space-disco ballad “The Real San Francisco” to the sinister hip-hop of “My 411 Track.” Club Hits covers just about every bit of ground the underground club scene could cover: disco, electro, hip-hop, glitch, and maybe even what you could call pop. Of course, All Teeth and Knuckles wouldn’t serve any of these up without topping them off with its favorite garnish: punk rock attitude. Whether planning a night out with “The Real San Francisco,” stirring up trouble at a local bar with “Fuck Your Jacket,” or wishing you could hit on every girl possible with “Look So Good,” this album has each part of your night covered.
Press Quotes “These two youngsters … came out of the Central Valley a few years back with guns blazing, and have unleashed a fury of electro hip-hop with a distinctive punk attitude that finds ready listeners in this town’s fickle and disenfranchised ears.” — SF Weekly “I wasn’t ready for the thunderstorm that is All Teeth and Knuckles … like a walking ‘fuck you!’ to all the hipster haircuts who infest the Mission.” — XLR8R “Part of the allure for me was the difficulty I had trying to describe this band to other people. The synth bass beats are hard and contorted, the snares crack all over the place, and the vocals are ground through a processor into a musically delicious pulp.” — BigStereo.net

Overview “Like an audio analogue to the canvases of Mark Rothko. The color is the blues, not because the music plays with the 12-bar form but because that’s the mood, like tears suspended in a cloud that never breaks.” — LA Weekly Even before his 1978 debut, guitarist Loren Connors has continually redefined the American blues and folk guitar. The Hymn of the North Star is his first solo LP-only release since 1990—though in the years since, he has recorded over two dozen solo and collaborative albums with Jim O’Rourke, John Fahey, Alan Licht, Christina Carter, Jandek, Suzanne Langille, Thurston Moore, Keiji Haino, Darin Gray, and others. Connors creates a tapestry of transparent and haunting melodies that transform the Delta blues into a ghost-like apparition that never settles, yet speaks from the soul. These six pieces show Connors’ contemporary elegiac style at its peak of romantic minimalism.
Selling Points • Loren Connors’ first solo LP-only release since 1990’s Midnight. • 180-gram vinyl, pressed in a one-time edition of 500 copies. • Features acclaimed guitarist and longtime duo partner Alan Licht (Text of Light) on one piece. • Copies sent to select US print and web media. • Ads with The Wire and Signal to Noise.

Overview “Yet another band that took too much time off! This band has definitely crafted their own definitive sound when most bands just seem to jumble together in a huge gray area. This album is yet another instant classic from these guys, thumping kicks to rattle your brain fluids and excellent vocal distortions and synths … E-Craft is strong and hard EBM meant for the strong, no filler here.” — Sideline.com Anyone who thought EBM was dead has been proven wrong for some time. The electro version of punk that was born in the mid-eighties is experiencing a brilliant revival, as the EBM festivals and parties held everywhere show. E-Craft, probably the most famous East German EBM band, has been representing the original electronica genre for eleven years on a national and international level—and now, the group releases its first new album since 2004’s Status! Entitled Unsocial Themes, it is a hard-hitting big-time event of noise, distortion, and beat amplification for every shady club on Earth. The songs present ecstatic electronic depths with a raw, confident melodic density and typical energy-loaded E-Craft style. The lyrics focus largely on social injustice, though calmer tracks are given more room for spherical sequences and include very intricate melodic and spatial arrangements. The album also includes creative instrumental tracks that underline the broad spectrum of the band’s arrangements. EBM is dead! Long live EBM!

Red Queen Hypothesis is the flagship band of a large collective of Midwestern weirdos based out of Indianapolis, Winchester, and Richmond, Indiana—a sort of Bermuda Triangle of rural sonic oddity that has expelled cassettes and hand-packaged CD-Rs by such bands as Palimpsest Albedo, The Library, and Sharky Farmers. Red Queen Hypothesis performs a timeless, fuzzy-cute pop that has drawn comparisons to the Polyphonic Spree, The Gerbils, and Jim Henson’s Muppets. On their latest disc, an honest-to-goodness CD (no “-R”), the group has summoned its strongest, most concise batch of songs yet. The Red Queen Hypothesis is a study in evolutionary biology describing the dichotomy between two subjects (host/prey) evolving constantly to avoid extinction. Here, science themes (leader Andrew Myers was a geology major at Richmond’s Earlham College), obtuse poetry, and drugged storytelling feature prominently on an album that at least one critic is sure to describe as “catchier than a football.”

Overview “Genuine raunch and roll … no frills here … just pure rock and roll energy.” — Babysue There are scores of bands out there claiming to have “legendary” status, but only a few really meet the definition. Boston’s Roadsaw is among that elite. Formed in the mid-nineties by Craig Riggs and Tim Catz, the band raised the bar for riff-loving hard rock, proving that the West Coast didn’t have a lock on what most considered “stoner rock.” The group released a single on Man’s Ruin; put out three albums and a compilation of singles & B-sides; toured the hell out of the US & Europe with the likes of Nebula, Orange Goblin, and Scissorfight; and then—like all good bands and unlike too many shitty ones—went on the dreaded “indefinite hiatus.” Well, crack open a cold one and get ready to rock the fuck out, because Roadsaw is back. After a successful US tour in 2005, an absolutely jaw-dropping cover of Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks” on the latest Sucking the ’70s compilation, and Roadsaw appearances at both CMJ and SXSW, the band has reconvened to record a new album that will be Rawk n’ Roll coming out later this year. The core lineup is back, and this is the culmination of every great riff and Genre: Alt Rock/Stoner Rock every memorable melody. This is the “fuck you” attitude that defines rock ‘n’ roll. Overview
Luke Temple: vocals, guitar, SK 30, floor tom, banjo Adam Chilenski: bass Tyler Wood: SK 30, piano Elliot Krimsky: SK 30, melodics Darren Beckett: drums R.J. Miller: drums
Luke Temple is not so concerned with hidden worlds, but with the landscape of the one around us. He grew up in Manchester, MA. He attended the school of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He moved to New York and found the visual art world a bit too cloistered for his liking, so he started singing. He tells little stories. He only understands some of them. More than anything he loves texture, color, and surprise. Luke Temple’s first release was his self-titled EP, which was followed by his full-length debut Hold a Match For a Gasoline World, and both were released on Mill Pond Records. He has just finished another album that he recorded on an old eight-track in his bedroom in Brooklyn. Called Snowbeast, it is his greatest achievement to date.
Press Quotes “Seattle singer-songwriter Luke Temple’s debut is a collection of songs that even the most jaded anti-folk hipster could catch himself humming on the street. The tunes are deceptively simple, with Simon and Garfunkel-style melodies, and Temple’s sleepy vocals belie a melancholy just beneath the surface. His high-pitched voice recalls a young Graham Nash by way of Elliott Smith … enough understated soul to give Conor Oberst a run for his money.” — Rolling Stone “There’s a distinctly psychedelic bent … Where [Sufjan Stevens’] endings float or soar, Temple throws in a leftfield groove, low and slithery. Cigarette, anyone?” — Pitchfork “The Next Big Thing … beautiful images, delivered in that pure, peerless crystal-clear tenor … Temple happens to know exactly what to add to a song to allow it to pass the threshold from ‘nice’ into ‘wonderful.’” — PopMatters “Allow me a few minutes to overcome my enchantment. Luke Temple … shows that he condones any and all melodies, no matter their dimensions or their forecast. He doesn’t abide by any particular structural mores, just a general belief that the concoctions are memorable and swing sweetly through breezes, like audible tree swings. He’s a fantastic storyteller with an eye for turning those minute details of a life into little pieces of music that can then become memorable … The first keeper of 2007.” — Daytrotter
Selling Points • A track from previous album Hold a Match for a Gasoline World was recently featured on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. • Residency scheduled at Brooklyn’s Union Hall for June/July 2007. • Has received great press in Spin, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, PopMatters, and more. • College radio promotion by AAM.

Overview

Known as both New York and Philadelphia’s #1 indie rock mini-orchestra, Illuminea has garnered much attention and a growing fan base through the release of its 2004 debut album Nightlight (Puffed Wheat Records) and energetic live shows. With indie rock edginess, pop delicateness, and orchestral grandeur, Illuminea makes complex love songs (love lost, more specifically) that sweep audiences off their feet. With seven members shuttling between New York and Philly, swapping instruments, passing songwriting duties, and recruiting guest instrumentalists, Illuminea has created a pop masterpiece on its second album, Out Of Our Mouths. Produced by Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, Frank Black, Elvis Costello, Sparklehorse) and the band, Out Of Our Mouths seamlessly weaves together no less than thirty instruments and twenty musicians across the album’s twelve songs, written by the band’s three songwriters (Jen Appel, Marc Goodman, and Minna Choi), who swap lead vocal duties. Formerly known as Illumina, the band recently modified its name to Illuminea to distinguish itself from a British band and a Final Fantasy sword. Currently, Illuminea also serves as the backing band for live performances by Anti- recording artists The Book of Knots.
Press Quotes “Despite its fluid and somewhat chaotic genesis, the ensemble is focused and elegant, coming off like a blend of Neutral Milk Hotel and Built to Spill as imagined by a small orchestra.” — Time Out New York “Layer upon layer upon layer of horns, keys, synthesizer, strings, chimes, and timpani are added to the rock essentials … lifting the songs above average and sometimes lifting them to greatness.” — Lost At Sea
Selling Points • Guests include Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu, The Book of Knots), Joel Hamilton, Zeena Parkins (Tin Hat), and Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Transmission Trio). • Produced by Illuminea and Joel Hamilton, who has worked with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Frank Black, Sparklehorse, Peeping Tom, The Book of Knots, and more. • Illuminea also serves as the backing band for live performances by Anti- recording artists The Book of Knots. • Drummer Pete Angevine splits time in The Flesh (Gern Blandsten) and Satanized (Badmaster Records). • Illuminea has shared bills with Spinto Band, I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness, Vietnam, Pas/Cal, Sam Prekop, Georgie James, and more. • Full press PR campaign by High Two. • College and specialty radio campaign by Team Clermont. • Music videos for a few songs will be posted on various websites and blogs. • Ads with Amplifier, Big Takeover, CMJ, Copper Press, Paste, Harp, Magnet, Pop Culture Press, Under the Radar, PopMatters, and more.

Overview “Spastic sped-up funk that deliberately somersaults the measure bars while instruments dart by one another, sort of like Devo or Talking Heads going no wave.” — Paper Thin Walls
Child Bite Gold Thriller
This is disco for the undead: solid, consistently danceable rock with a brazenly psychotic, progressive edge. Child Bite’s blend of sophisticated dance-punk has enough time changes and feedback layering to please hipsters and experimental rockers alike, recalling bands like Brainiac, early Deerhoof, and Pere Ubu. As you would be able to tell from the sleeve of Mr. Bungle tattoos on Shawn Knight’s arm, the band has flirted with the darkest of experimental and progressive sounds, only to emerge with a twisted take on (post?) dance-punk. Alternating between eight-bit Nintendo sounds and expansively spacey, epic movements, the music of Child Bite will constantly challenge you. This is the insidious dark side of hip rock music.

Overview “The Minor Thirds are at once utterly serious and utterly playful. The music that supports them is soft and unemphatic, loosely jointed and cooperative, a blend of lo-fi guitar and Elephant 6-style kitchen-sinkery.” — Splendid The Minor Thirds is a band from Portland whose latest album is called Nebraska From Afar. It tells the story of two people who meet up unexpectedly in a pancake house in Omaha, fall in love, and drive off into the night. When morning comes, they’re still driving, and as they travel from town to town they soon find themselves plotting each other’s destruction. The ending—not to spoil the ending—is problematic but hopeful. The Minor Thirds play a jittery classical guitar, an upright bass, a snare, and a cymbal, adding in whatever they can—accordion, trumpet, theremin, ad hoc gospel choir. Melodies and lyrics get bandied about like water balloons in a fire. They promise it will be fun. Come in from the rain, they say, and have some tea. They promise not to make you cry. They promise.
Selling Points • A unique tragicomic concept album/narrative. • Features multiple Portland guest musicians, including a six-year-old drummer. • Several previous albums and DVDs available. • Videos by local filmmakers are being made for several of the songs on the album, and a specialized web campaign will include these videos. • Targeted campaign for college radio stations and independent music magazines. • Fall 2007 Northeast tour and some Northwest shows. • Retail and street team support provided via Greyday Records.
