The 20th Anniversary of one of the most historic and important recording sessions of all time, featuring 45 of the biggest names in American popular music, is now commemorated on this four-hour, two-DVD set! “We Are The World” became an international sensation in 1985. The single sold more than 7.5 million copies and won Grammy Awards for “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year,” but more importantly, it focused both media and public attention on the famine that was killing millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa and the endemic problems of hunger in Africa that still persist today. This set, produced by the award-winning DVD producer Paul Brownstein, features more than four hours of material from the all-night recording session. The DVD includes an expanded version of the original “Making-of Special” along with the 10th Anniversary documentary PLUS more than two hours of bonus footage that include the individual artists rehearsing and recording their solos, behind-the-scenes camaraderie and banter, and the long, arduous labor of love that produced one of the great “anthems” of all time. On this album we hear the great virtuosity of Fumie Hirara on the koto, sometimes known as “the Japanese harp,” and the subtle playing of Sôzan Chiaki Kariya, a master of the shakuhachi flute. Contemporary compositions are included, as well as much older pieces, some of them attributed to the founder of koto music, Yatsuhashi Kengyô (1614–1685).

An exceptional and rare recording, respecting the authenticity of this music. Recorded on a Hopi Reservation in Arizona with the Lil’Bear Singers, a group of four brothers. Here, they pay tribute to the culture and traditions of their ancestors.
