Associated Press: Texas blues legend Johnny Winter, known for his lightning-fast blues guitar riffs, his striking long white hair, and his collaborations with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and childhood hero Muddy Waters, recently passed away at age 70. Winter was a leading light among white blues guitar players, including Eric Clapton and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, who followed in the footsteps of the earlier Chicago blues masters. Rolling Stone named Winter one of the top 100 guitarists of all time.

• An improvised cello suite by Ernst Reijseger! • In 2013, the state gallery of modern art in Augsburg’s Glaspalast (“Crystal Palace”) hosted a comprehensive exhibition of the works of German-American painter Jerry Zeniuk. In this place, inspired by a world of pictures, Reijseger recorded this program. • Reijseger has played the cello from the age of seven, and began as a performing cellist and improviser in 1969. From that time on, he developed his own musical vocabulary. He writes for and improvises with musicians and ensembles of different musical disciplines and nationalities, as well as giving solo recitals. • Since 2004, Reijseger has written music for four films and a 3-D documentary by director Werner Herzog: The White Diamond, The Wild Blue Yonder, Rescue Dawn, My Son My Son What Have Ye Done, and Cave of Forgotten Dreams, the soundtracks of which were published by Winter & Winter. Jacques Pelzer Never Let Me Go Jacques Pelzer is one of few musicians to have gone through a dizzy number of jazz periods without ever losing sight of his goal or his integrity. In the eighties and nineties, Pelzer went back to straight-ahead jazz, showing a definite preference for acoustic jazz, selected be-bop standards, and songs that he used to play with Chet Baker, including more modern compositions. He made a remarkable comeback to the studios in 1990 with the Open Sky Unit, and this recording received the Sax Prize for Jazz Album of the Year in 1991. In 1969, at a concert in Monterey, James Brown announced his intention to retire from touring, but it wasn’t until 1975 that he finally stopped. Then, in 1979, three young television producers convinced him to make a comeback performance! This outstanding concert was captured and then, due to unfortunate circumstances, the videotapes were locked in a vault for 12 years before they could be seen. Brown’s transformation of gospel passion into the compelling intensity of rhythm and blues, combined with meticulous choreography and energetic showmanship, is clearly demonstrated in this legendary concert footage.
