Spring greeting from All Hands and Hearts! In this quarter’s impact update, you’ll learn about our COVID response, our recovery progress and our alignment to the Sustainable Development Goals ... with particular focus on SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation) in light of the increasing importance of safe hygiene practices in today’s world.
COVID-19 Update and Response Our commitment to communities affected by natural disasters remains resolute. Our team is developing customized plans to enable a phased reopening of programs beginning September 1, with the safety of the communities we serve, volunteers and staff as our top priority. We recognize that we all have a role to play in this global crisis, and we have been leveraging our disaster-relief experience, working with stressed supply chains, to procure and deliver critically-needed PPE to hospitals and other first responder facilities in the U.S. We are also adapting our volunteer model to safely address the devastating impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities. Internationally, we are supporting in-country partners as they work to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on our beneficiary communities. Learn more about specific, location-based updates on the current state of our suspended programs and our roadmap to return at our COVID-19 hub on our website.
Introducing the Disaster Relief Fund In acknowledgment We have earned a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator six years in a row and a Perfect 100. Less than 1% of rated nonprofits have received this distinction for financial and operational efficiency.
of the importance of allocating funding to where it is needed most, we are renaming our Annual Fund to the Disaster Relief Fund. Gifts to this fund will also allow us to help unsupported vulnerable communities in the immediate response, through to their long term recovery.
PROGRAM NEWS Since the last quarterly update, and in spite of COVID-19 challenges, we’re proud to report we’ve safely and successfully completed our programs in Puerto Rico and Mozambique as well as Shree Manakamana Basic School in Nepal.
Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Thanks to the help of 3,536 volunteers, we completed 1,703 jobs, including 605 new roofs, reaching 12 municipalities and impacting 7,831 people during our two+ years in Puerto Rico! We also restored four, much-loved baseball fields. “If today we have advanced in the process of our recovery, if today we have fewer homes with blue tarps, it's thanks to this group [All Hands and Hearts]. They wake up every morning and bring hope to our community.” - Rafael Ruiz, Mayor of Yabucoa.
Mozambique Tropical Cyclone Relief In our first ever program in Mozambique, we’ve completed two schools, enabling 951 primary school children to move out of temporary, open air learning spaces, into safe, disaster resilient classrooms, with much improved WASH facilities! Thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, donors and partners who made it possible!

Nepal Earthquake Relief We’re delighted we’ve been able to transform our 22nd school in Nepal - Shree Manakamana Basic School into a safe, inviting place for children to learn, with 12 disaster resilient classrooms. Our team also worked closely with the community and our local partner, Relief Nepal, to complete multiple Renewal Projects, which help to build resiliency and equip community members with new skills and opportunity. We are continuing to monitor local restrictions to determine if, and when, local staff can return to the Thakureshor and Janakalyan Schools to complete construction and finalize the buildings.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS) For more than 15 years, All Hands and Hearts has striven to undertake activities that provide long-term solutions to the impacts of disasters. Our work is intrinsically tied to elements of sustainable development and, through our unique volunteer model, we accelerate progress toward SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). With safe hygiene practices as one of the only tools available now to combat the spread of COVID-19, we’d like to highlight some of the ways our work is contributing towards SDG 6.
Program Spotlight: Water, Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH) Our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene initiatives aim to improve the health of children and community members by reducing the incidence of water and sanitation-related illnesses. In Shree Manakamana Basic School, the community now has access to safe and disaster-resilient educational facilities, as well as much-improved WaSH resources and the knowledge they need to create a better future for themselves. A few of the WASH highlights include: ●
