A long term volunteer, Amanda, has started a nutrition course for the local community. Amanda is an experienced vegetarian chef and has been helping our chefs to prepare vegetarian dishes for our volunteers. The course, which has 12 attendees, will focus on why it is important to eat healthily (chronic disease and diabetes), how to read labels on food packets, the sugar, fat, and salt content commonly found in processed foods, and children’s diets to promote health and optimum development.

DISASTER PROFILE The Central Mexico earthquake struck on September 19, 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake caused severe damage in the state of Morelos and the greater Mexico City area. OUR WORK In partnership with Happy Hearts Fund Mexico and with support from donors, partners, and volunteers from around the world, All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response has run an impactful program in Mexico since February 26, 2018. Initially working in the state of Morelos, we are now able to expand our efforts into Oaxaca, where we are working on Celso Munoz Primary School and Jardin de Niños 13 de Septiembre Preschool. Our work on the classrooms, computer room, office, and bathrooms, will give students schools a safe, secure place to go to school everyday.
OUR MISSION To effectively and efficiently address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. By listening to local people, and deploying a unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, we rebuild safe, resilient schools, homes and other community infrastructure.
