Current Activities Kindergarten "Itzcoatl" - To this day, we have poured the floor slab to both classrooms and the office. The walls brickwork has advanced greatly, and is almost done! Also, we've started with the rebar installation. As for the new WaSH, we have completed the superstructures for the septic tank and the absorption pits. Also, we've prepared the base slab and we are about to start pouring the concrete in the roof in the next weeks. Watch our new video here Elementary School "Revolution" - We've demolished the bands, including capping to confine masonry walls. The concrete roof slab demolition has been completed by the contractors. We are still removing all the bathroom tiles. We have completed the installation of the new double panel for the library's roof and office / WaSH; poured the new concrete beams; installed the breaker box and the electric pipes; changed and cleaned the plumbing pipes. As for the kitchen, we've reinforced the windows, completed the doors, and we're about to finish the plasterwork on its exterior walls.
Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Training Our Community Coordinator (CC) is implementing this program. We’ve had the participation of 78 community members in our evening educational sessions. During this training, basic concepts about recurring disaster risks have been taught, community vulnerabilities have been evaluated, reduction solutions have been discussed and at least one drill has been done. At the moment, we have formed two DRR committees, one for each school.

Community integration In each community where we work, we integrate ourselves. During September, a new local church opened in Union Zapata, and the community invited us to their celebration. It was a two-day festivity with 250 people. Food, dancing, bulls and a street parade! The Commissioner Committee also took All Hands and Hearts staff and volunteers on a hike in the nearby mountains, where they showed us hieroglyphics in the caves. We ended the experience with a delicious barbeque!
Volunteer voices “I've had a great time here in Union Zapata and, sincerely, wish i could stay longer. The project team here are really professional, kind and open as well as fun and well organised. They set a really good tone to the volunteers and life here is enjoyable… I really enjoyed covering the role of VRC whilst Emily was on break as it allowed me to see how the project worked at the operational level and it was impressive, productive and chilled - really nice to see! I was really impressed by the variety and quantity of food throughout. On my previous project it was much simpler, much more repetitive and never enough for seconds. Here the effort from the chefs is ginormous to create a real variety at each meal and I really appreciated that”.
