“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly–they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.” – Aldous Huxley

FOREWORD

Welcome to the 10th edition of the All In! Young Writers Festival. The journey has been arduous and yet All In! has remained interesting and quite relevant to both young writers and industry professionals who have been involved in its programming for the past decade. Although a tyro among more established young writers festivals as those in Hong kong, Australia and the UK, our Festival has nonetheless evolved with the times, opening its doors to new partners and first-time delegates year in and out. It’s a given that this year is a special milestone year. But more than just celebrating our birthday, All In! is happy to bring back industry professionals and partners who have been with us throughout its journey, as well as welcome new supporters who have seen the potential in participating actively in the Festival. For one, *SCAPE, which has graciously sponsored this year’s venue for the second time, has offered to accommodate a larger audience by adding additional rooms for individually-sold workshops. Partners like LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Kindness Movement have also expanded their parked programming across the three-day celebration, while new programme and media partners like Mediacorp, Singapore Repertory Theatre, Poetry Festival Singapore, The Hidden Good, SGAG and NUS’ The Ridge, among others, promise to help widen All In!’s reach and provide new content to entice our budding young writers–all with the hope of inspiring them to continue writing. The Festival also welcomes new school partners, such as Overseas Family School and Tampines Secondary School, who have pledged their commitment to All In!, with the hope of strengthening ties with more schools across the levels, as we open the Festival to Upper Primary (P6) students. Moving forward, the Festival sees itself as a platform that brings together professionals and students in shared discussions that explore potential projects, while fostering the love for the craft, and improving both core and adjunct skills needed to achieve your full potential in writing. Happy anniversary to you, young writer. Welcome to your Festival.
