Extended Learning Class Schedule
Extended Learning Class Schedule
Dear community,
As I write this letter, we are far into spring and for those of us with kids in school, we are busier than ever. High school graduates are counting down the days and while some have a set path ahead, others are still weighing options for their time after graduating. Many teens (and parents) worry about their future when deciding to continue in school or to find a job. I am proud to share more about our career technical education (CTE) programs, an option for students seeking to learn great skills and make a livable wage by enrolling in one of the diverse programs ranging from healthcare, manufacturing, culinary arts, automotive, and heavy diesel technology, only to name a few!
In mid-April, Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) hosted our 9th National Career Technical Education Signing Day. The event mirrors the tradition of high school student-athletes signing their intent to play sports at specific colleges. However, instead of committing to a sports program, the 96 students spotlighted on April 18th were committing to technical education pathways. Students were cheered on by their families and faculty, who joined each student on stage to sign their letter of intent. I was thrilled to be a part of this heartwarming moment and to join our industry partners in congratulating the students on their outstanding choices. Notably, our keynote speaker was Rob Foster, President of ATI Specialty Alloys in Millersburg. ATI relies heavily on LBCC graduates to meet their workforce needs, and I was so glad Rob could join us.
Over the past few years, the CTE Signing Day event has drawn attention from our region’s employers, offering scholarships for students to help with the cost of tuition. In my role as president, I spend a large amount of my time connecting with our local employers to learn about their workforce needs. Community colleges are able to work to incorporate the needs of the industry partners in our programming in a more direct way than a 4-year institution. Our workforce relies on us to educate and prepare the next generation of skilled working professionals to support our economy. When our graduates enter the workforce, they will make a difference not only in their families’ lives but also in the community by contributing to our regional economy.
LBCC celebrated more than Signing Day in April. We celebrated the spirit of collaboration, the pursuit of knowledge, and the transformative impact of technical education. The new recruits will continue to grow a legacy that shapes industries, empowers individuals, and strengthens our community. This event is another great example of my promise to our community to offer anyone who wants to be at LBCC an open door to join our Roadrunner family through Education for All.
Thanks,
Lisa Avery Linn-Benton Community College President• Registration starts Monday, May 20 at 8:00 a.m.
• Summer term is in session June 24 - August 29
• LBCC will be closed and no classes will meet July 4th, and Fridays in the months of July and August.
