Cattlemen and Cattlewomen,
Welcome to our 48th Annual Total Performance Sale. What’s new at Wagonhammer? Well, quite a lot!
Individual Feed Intake: We installed the SmartFeed system of individual feed stations that lets us evaluate one of the industry’s most important, yet least measured metrics: How many pounds of feed does it take to produce a pound of gain? We collected data on 66 of the bulls prior to the catalog going to press. By the time the sale rolls around, we’ll have data on another 40. We are investing where we think the industry should be heading. We’re anxious for you to evaluate the data with us.

Simmental bulls: We are offering 45 Simmental and SimAngus bulls in addition to our historical Angus and Charolais bulls. Numerous conversations with our customers have led us to offering a black hided Continental option for your breeding programs. These bulls are stout, and the balance of traits we have been selecting for generations. We think you’ll find them a good addition to our program and yours.
More 18-month-old bulls: Based on popular demand, we are offering a record number of age-advantaged bulls born in the fall of 2021.
What’s not new at Wagonhammer? Our 2023 offering is consistent in quality, which is what you’ve come to expect from us. We start with the cow herd and build from there. Fertility, calving ease, adequate milk, proper udder structure, sound feet & legs, docility, fleshing ability, optimum frame & muscle, all in an attractive phenotype. That is a lot to ask before we even look at growth and carcass traits. Yet that is what we strive for. It is what our customers demand. While some in the industry have gone away from performance testing and providing actual data, we are still doing those things, including providing real ultrasound data because we think it’s important to get real-world data and strengthen the integrity of EPD’s. Total Performance is more than a phrase at Wagonhammer, it’s a Program.
Cow numbers have been drastically reduced and we are on the cusp of rapidly increasing prices. As we enter a much more profitable period, strong investments in genetics will pay strong dividends. One investment you can make with confidence is buying Wagonhammer bulls. We have over 100 years of reputation behind everything we sell, and that intangible adds value to each animal you buy.
Thank you for your interest in our program. Please let us know if you want a pre-sale tour, we’d love to host you. See you on Sale Day!
Sincerely,
Jay Wolf & Alex Wolf Joe Epperly Owners Director of Genetics and Sales
