Calving Ease
We pride ourselves on providing you our valued customers with bulls that will produce calves that are born easily, get up quickly and start growing. We also recognize that not every bull needs to breed heifers and so we have created a system to identify the potential heifer bulls in the sale via a star rating system. Please use the key below to help understand our recommendations on how each bull can be used based off their EPDs, actual performance, dam’s production record and pedigree history.

No doubt heifer bull.He was born light and unassisted. His EPDs are elite for calving ease. His sire, dam and maternal grandsire have a history of calving ease.
4 STAR CALVING EASE
EPDs for CED and BW suggest he should work well on heifers. Born with moderate birth weight and born unassisted. Pedigree has history of calving ease.
3 STAR CALVING EASE
EPDs for CED and BW suggest calving ease. Born with either heavier actual weight unassisted or smaller actual weight with abnormal presentation. Can be used on heifers with caution especially that are more developed prior to first calving (weighing 1150 +). These bulls will fit well to breed wet two year olds. Pedigree has calving ease history.
Bulls without highlighted calving ease – bulls that aren’t highlighted for calving ease will have typical Angus characteristics for easy calving but their numerical indicators and history tell us that they will work best on cows to maximize growth.
Our Charolais bulls average in the top 25% of the breed for calving ease but we only breed Purebred Charolais heifers to Charolais bulls. Our commercial heifers are all bred to Angus bulls and so the Charolais are not scored for calving ease like the Angus. Please use CED as you evaluate those bulls for use in your program.
