FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE
10.23.20
Cattlemen and Cattlewomen
We hope this finds you well and optimistic for the future of production agriculture. As a family, we have used this unprecedented time to look on the bright side and spend more time together. It has also given us a chance to really focus on the things in life we may have taken for granted. With that in mind, we would like to thank you for taking the time to review our sale book and browse through the cattle. Our family is both full of gratitude and excitement as we enter another sale season. We are proud to yet again team up with the Spencer and Brumfield families. These programs have the same mindset and list of goals as we do here at T Bar S. We aim to produce the highest quality seedstock with the best form of customer service on the market. We would like to extend our gratitude not only to the Spencer and Brumfield families but also to the Neuner family at Hidden Ridge Farms. We are appreciative of the Neuners for being part of this exciting offering as a cooperator herd. As a small cattle company, we could not provide the numbers of our quality bulls and females without their assistance. It goes without question, but we are extremely excited and proud to offer more higher percentage Gelbvieh bulls than we have been able to offer since the start of the Balancer program. All these bulls are genomically enhanced, parent verified and tested for both color and horned/polled status. We take great pride in how these bulls are bred, raised and developed prior to making their permanent stay at your place. All the bulls have been developed at the same location and come with the most consistency we can find. High forage, low energy diets are what will let these bulls go to work and maintain condition. The female offering is as deep as ever. The six spring bred heifers come with the most unique combination of quality and EPD profile we have ever been able to assemble. The open heifers and the genetic lots are the things that can change your program just as they have changed ours. Our family remains committed to offering our very best to you. Integrity and customer service are our core values in business, which is why when you choose to invest in our program, T Bar S invests in you as well. Don’t just buy a bull. Buy a program. Thank you again and God Bless,
The Vehige Family Tom, Stacy, Justin, Kyle & Grace

Springfield Livestock Marketing Center will highlight the T Bar S Cattle Company feeder calves on the 3rd Wednesday in June and the 3rd Wednesday in November. The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center’s special female sale will highlight T Bar S Cattle Company replacement females at the February and August special female sales. All cattle will be sold live at the sale barn. Program Guidelines: -Calves must be 45 days weaned -2 rounds of shots -De-wormed -Verified with T Bar S Cattle Company tag and signed affidavit When you buy a bull with T Bar S Cattle Company, you buy a program. Don’t buy a bull. b uy a program.
The American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) recently transitioned to a new system for the national cattle evaluation. The AGA is a part of International Genetic Solutions (IGS), which is a collaboration between other North American beef breed associations. IGS invested in the new BOLT software, which brings with it the singlestep genetic evaluation, a new, more streamlined method for incorporating genomic results into expected progeny differences (EPDs). This partnership benefits the commercial beef industry by providing EPDs backed by millions of pedigree, performance, and genomic records, which are directly comparable across the partner breeds. Hands down, BOLT technology provides the best and most accurate method for genetic prediction. Below is a sampling of improvements brought on by BOLT.
How the New Genetic Evaluation Impacts Genetic Selection.
More Informed Genetic Selection Decisions: Purchasing bulls with genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) allows commercial producers to make selection decisions with less risk due to an increase in the accuracy of a non-parent animal’s EPDs. The addition of genomic data to an EPD is comparable to adding another source of information, like progeny or pedigree records. Specifically on lowly heritable traits, such as reproductive traits, genomic data has the potential to greatly increase the accuracy of an EPD prediction and can be demonstrated. While the accuracy value associated with an EPD can be a bit difficult to understand in practical terms, the progeny equivalent table provides information that’s easy to comprehend in the most practical of terms – how many calves worth of data was added? Progeny equivalent values in the table below describe the number of progeny with reported data for each trait that would be needed to match the amount accuracy provided by a genomic test. For example, the progeny equivalent for calving ease direct (CED) for Gelbvieh and Balancer® registered animals is 15, which means that the inclusion of a genomic test is the equivalent to having calved 15 heifers bred to a particular bull.
Across Breed Comparison:
Because AGA breeders have chosen to collaborate with members of other North American breed associations to pool their pedigree, performance, and genomic data for a multi-breed NCE, most Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals’ EPDs can be directly comparable with other animals in the registries of other partner breed associations within the IGS group. Gelbvieh and Balancer EPDs that are excluded from direct comparison included: heifer pregnancy, 30-month pregnancy and dry matter intake. The $Cow, efficiency profit index and FPI™ indices are unique to the AGA and are not comparable across breeds.
Calving Ease EPDs:
Previously, if a group of heifers all calved unassisted, their birth data (calving scores and birth weights) could not be used in the evaluation due to the absence of variation. The new release now allows for the use of data from contemporary groups with no variation. This change resulted in thousands of calving scores and birth weights becoming available for genetic prediction in the BOLT-powered EPDs, reducing bias and providing you with calving ease direct (CED) and calving ease maternal (CEM) EPDs with even more power to predict the difference in ease of calving in heifers.
Carcass EPDs:
In addition to migration to the BOLT software, several important improvements and upgrades to the carcass EPDs were deployed. Now a true multi-trait evaluation with all carcass and ultrasound traits plus weaning weight and post-weaning gain is used. This compared to the old evaluation where carcass EPDs were simply an index of the carcass trait and its corresponding ultrasound trait. These carcass model improvements lead to a slight increase in accuracy for carcass EPDS.

THE ONLY KNOWN HOMO POLLED A LA MODE SON! This bull is potentially the greatest animal ever produced here at T Bar S. Starting with the data, 817 lbs coming off his recip Dam. Top 30% for YW and TM, 20% for Milk and CFAT, and 15% for CW, plus several other traits above the 50% mark. As far as phenotype, we cannot fit all the good things we want to say about this huge boned, square built, monster topped, thick ended, big bodied, good looking bull on one page. Without question, this is one of the best bulls to be marketed in recent times and backed by a cow that is averaging just shy of $10,000 on all calves sold. Tie hard, tie fast. You cannot afford to not be a part of something this special.

“ ” We have been buying the T Bar S bulls for around 15 years and have never had a problem with them. These bulls have added size and quality to our herd. The bulls are gentle and easy to handle. Also, their feet hold up well. Cattle buyers are always anxious to buy our calves, which speaks volumes. The calves have a good rate of gain and it shows in the finished product. We currently have twelve of these bulls for our 350 head herd. They all do consistently well and would recommend the T Bar S bulls to anyone.

Moderate, big ribbed, and sound… how much more can you ask out of a heifer bull? He was born at 75lbs out of a first calf heifer. This son of Day Money is in the Top 25% for TM, CREA and MILK. Also, the Top 10% for DOC, YG, and CFAT. Be sure and keep all the females out of this one. He is built like a heifer bull, but his Dam has done an incredible job and weaned of 61.4% of her body weight on her first calf!!

We have been buying bulls from T Bar S since we started our small herd of 30 cows. We have now grown to over a 300 head herd of cows and continue to buy their bulls. Over the years, it made it a lot easier to expand the herd knowing that we could count on the bulls we bought having good disposition and the endurance to hold up and service our cows for many years. The customer service is also very wonderful. They will work with you to get the right bull for your program… just don’t ask them to get anything off the top shelf for you.

“The Slap”
by Grace Vehige
You’ve either been there in person or visited in your dreams. When you start out, your goals may be smaller, perhaps even more humble. It’s a feat to win your first class, and it’s an even greater accomplishment to win your first division. Over time, your success continues to blossom, your circle of family and friends continues to grow, and your name becomes more prevalent. You know what it takes to be successful. You’ve been in the barn to feed at the crack of dawn and at dusk. You’ve washed and worked hair until your arms go numb. You’ve cared for your animal in the best and most complete way possible. You wouldn’t trade this way of life, the life of a stock show kid, for anything. All the work you put in becomes a little more recognized, a little more worth it, and a lot more real when you strap into your numbered harness, reach for your lucky show stick, and grab onto the freshly shined show halter. With the smell of Final Bloom in the air, the support of your team around you, and the last-minute coaching from a parent or respected friend, you enter the show ring. Immediately, your eyes find the judge. You follow the same pattern through the ring that you’ve made at least a hundred other times, but this time, something feels a little different. Maybe it’s the first time you’ve taken your animal in the ring… Maybe it’s the result of praises you’ve received about your animal from others… Maybe it’s your nerves… but something… something just feels different. Your eyes search the crowd and then make their way back to the judge, examining each member of your competition on the way. You take a breath, adjust the halter in your hands, and check to see if you have your animal set up correctly. You are in total focus. It feels like everything following this moment is a total blur. The next time you look up, the judge has reached for the microphone. They begin talking through each animal in the ring, listing likes and dislikes. You give off a soft smile at the good things you hear about your animal, but your nerves quickly consume you. You start to rethink everything you’ve done leading up to this moment. You question the way your animal looks in the ring right now and begin to wonder, “Maybe if they would have just drunk a little more water before we came in the ring…” But then you escape your thoughts and snap back into the reality of the situation. You’re in the final drive. The judge has made reasons and is currently giving one last walk through. You feel your heart race as the judge walks your way, only to feel shattered as they maneuver past you. As your last effort and with your desire to win, you result to using the power of your mind to will the judge back your way. You consider that you may be bypassed again, but you pray that this time you’re the one. And that’s when it happens… the moment of total euphoria. Nothing compares to it… not even the congratulations given or the hugs and handshakes shared. The handshake with the judge may make it official. The backdrop photo may capture the result, and the feeling of satisfaction and pride may wear off. Some people become numb to all of that because they have become used to the success. But it doesn’t matter who you are or how many times you’ve won… this moment feels complete. This single gesture has sealed your fate. It’s the signal of a champion. You know what I’m talking about… it’s The Slap.

BIG BERTHA!!!!! This was Allison’s pick of the open heifers. This is turning a cow into a show heifer rather than a show heifer into a cow. Huge bodied, huge boned, huge topped, and thick ended. Combine it with awesome balance and a soft hair coat and we are confident in this one. The last time we talked about one that looked like this… Jaycie Forbes and her heifer Tootsie won more than any can remember in recent times!!

T BAR S CATTLE COMPANY
This one is neat!! 114F is big boned and huge hipped. She is sound structured and feminine upfront. When you tie all that together with 7 traits within the Top 30% of the breed, you have the groundwork to build a solid foundation. We have no doubt her calf will be a quick return on investment! Sells bred to AMGV 1449595 T BAR S Allegiance ET. Estimated Fetal EPDs: CED 13, BW 0.1, WW 70, YW 107, MILK 20, and FPI Index 78.43.
