bull & female sale
10.25.19
Welcome to T Bar S Cattle Company! We are so humbled that you have taken the time to view our cattle and support our sale. Whether you’re here at the farm, watching online, or keeping us in mind elsewhere, we thank you! It’s a privilege to serve new customers and continue to work and grow with old customers. Whichever end of the spectrum you fall on, we’re excited to share this year’s selection with you. T Bar S Cattle Company got its start in 1993. 26 years, a happy marriage, 3 children and four moves later...the Vehige family has claimed Billings, Missouri as our final destination to focus on the growth of T Bar S, and man, are we excited! We have worked tirelessly the last 26 years to improve upon our operation, not only for ourselves but for our customers. As we begin our first production sale, our family is so incredibly eager to present our very best to you. We are proud of this set of cattle, and we believe that there is something offered to fit everyone’s needs. Our family recognizes the help and support that we receive from others, and we are grateful for it. This first production sale would not be possible without our family friends and business partners: Spencer Cattle Company and Brumfield Angus Farms. We are also grateful for our personal and working relationships with Hidden Ridge Farms, where a large amount of our embryo work gets done. Of course, none of these opportunities would have came about if it weren’t for our loyal and growing customer base. We have taken the last couple years to truly invest in our operation, and in doing so, we have invested in you as customers. We are so glad to have you on our team, and we hope you like what you have to see from us. As we continue to advance our operation and herd, we stay Focused on the Future. We hope you do too. Please take the time to ask questions and visit with us. If you haven’t noticed, we love conversation! We’re happy to be a part of your investment in your cattle, farm and livelihood because it’s our livelihood too. We are committed to you as fellow cattlemen and women, so we offer you our very best. Without further ado, we urge you to keep one thing in mind as you make your investment decisions: Don’t buy a bull. Buy a program. Thank you all again for your time and support. We look forward to visiting with you!
Best Regards,
The Vehige Family

The American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) recently transitioned to a new system for the national cattle evaluation. The AGA is a part of International Genetic Solutions (IGS), which is a collaboration between other North American beef breed associations. IGS invested in the new BOLT software, which brings with it the single-step genetic evaluation, a new, more streamlined method for incorporating genomic results into expected progeny differences (EPDs). This partnership benefits the commercial beef industry by providing EPDs backed by millions of pedigree, performance, and genomic records, which are directly comparable across the partner breeds. Hands down, BOLT technology provides the best and most accurate method for genetic prediction. Below is a sampling of improvements brought on by BOLT.
How the New Genetic Evaluation Impacts Genetic Selection.
More Informed Genetic Selection Decisions:
Purchasing bulls with genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) allows commercial producers to make selection decisions with less risk due to an increase in the accuracy of a nonparent animal’s EPDs. The addition of genomic data to an EPD is comparable to adding another source of information, like progeny or pedigree records. Specifically on lowly heritable traits, such as reproductive traits, genomic data has the potential to greatly increase the accuracy of an EPD prediction and can be demonstrated. While the accuracy value associated with an EPD can be a bit difficult to understand in practical terms, the progeny equivalent table provides information that’s easy to comprehend in the most practical of terms – how many calves worth of data was added? Progeny equivalent values in the table below describe the number of progeny with reported data for each trait that would be needed to match the amount accuracy provided by a genomic test. For example, the progeny equivalent for calving ease direct (CED) for Gelbvieh and Balancer® registered animals is 15, which means that the inclusion of a genomic test is the equivalent to having calved 15 heifers bred to a particular bull.
Across Breed Comparison:
Because AGA breeders have chosen to collaborate with members of other North American breed associations to pool their pedigree, performance, and genomic data for a multi-breed NCE, most Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals’ EPDs can be directly comparable with other animals in the registries of other partner breed associations within the IGS group. Gelbvieh and Balancer EPDs that are excluded from direct comparison included: heifer pregnancy, 30-month pregnancy and dry matter intake. The $Cow, efficiency profit index and FPI™ indices are unique to the AGA and are not comparable across breeds.
Calving Ease EPDs:
Previously, if a group of heifers all calved unassisted, their birth data (calving scores and birth weights) could not be used in the evaluation due to the absence of variation. The new release now allows for the use of data from contemporary groups with no variation. This change resulted in thousands of calving scores and birth weights becoming available for genetic prediction in the BOLT-powered EPDs, reducing bias and providing you with calving ease direct (CED) and calving ease maternal (CEM) EPDs with even more power to predict the difference in ease of calving in heifers.
Carcass EPDs:
In addition to migration to the BOLT software, several important improvements and upgrades to the carcass EPDs were deployed. Now a true multi-trait evaluation with all carcass and ultrasound traits plus weaning weight and post-weaning gain is used. This compared to the old evaluation where carcass EPDs were simply an index of the carcass trait and its corresponding ultrasound trait. These carcass model improvements lead to a slight increase in accuracy for carcass EPDS.

“ ” We have been buying the T BAR S bulls for around 15 years and have never had a problem with them. These bulls have added size and quality to our herd. The bulls are gentle and easy to handle. Also their feet hold up well. Cattle buyers are always anxious to buy our calves, which speaks volumes. The calves have a good rate of gain and it shows in the finished product. We currently have twelve of these bulls for our 350 cow herd. They all do consistently well and would recommend the T BAR S bulls to anyone.

GDV T BAR S ACE’S HIGH 209D
Lot 1 is the first born calf of our many-time champion, and now deceased, Ace’s High bull, along with our lead donor A La Mode, who’s writing her own page in T Bar S history. While we only had Ace’s High for a short time, the calving reports have us convinced that he will build a legacy. With that said, it was never a debate to start our first sale off with Deuces Wild. This is without question the most unique animal ever raised here at T Bar S, and he is a fan favorite by all who have seen him. He is a stouter, wider, and higher performing version of his father, with the same incredible look and structure. We are confident this January bull calf is what people are looking for in high-percentage Gelbvieh cattle. Bid early and often. This is one of the most unique bulls to sell this year. Retaining 2/3 semen interest.

Here’s one of the most outcross pedigreed bulls to sell anywhere in the country this year. A true 94% purebred with a modern day look, and boy, did the black-polled rascal get it on at the bull test. This red beast is something to see! He is a standout in the set for his balance and quality. He’s got the muscle, bone, and growth we expect from our bulls, but this one is consistent in his EPD’s and his incredible look. He is backed by a whale of a momma cow. He is easily in the upper eschelan of bulls to sell anywhere in the country this year! Not much else to say here.

We are extremely proud of our set of red bulls! X017F dang sure helps that! Here’s a big-time performance bull who gained over 3.5lb/day on test while still ranking in the Top 1% of the breed for the $Cow index. This 63% bull is the kind of cattle that is stout, sound, and good-doing. It’s the kind that will keep us all in business.
“
We have been buying bulls from T Bar S since we started our small herd of 30 cows. We have now grown to over a 300 head herd of cows and continue to buy their bulls. Over the years, it made it a lot easier to expand the herd knowing that we could count on the bulls we bought having good disposition and the endurance to hold up and service our cows for many years. The customer service is also very wonderful. They will work with you to get the right bull for your program… just don’t ask them to get anything off the top shelf for you.

This is the youngest of the cow division, and man, is it tough to let this one go. This 38% Balancer is the kind we strive to produce here. She is stout and bold with some added femininity and refinement. She’s backed by our former Angus herd bull whose influence in our program is still evident to this day. As a bonus, this female is the mother to what we feel is the most elite calving ease sire prospect in this sale. AI bred to VLK A301 Highmore and pasture exposed to T Bar S Giddy Up 102D. Pregged AI safe and due March 2020.

When we decided to have this sale, we knew we needed some help from a consigner. It took no time for us to ask Jim Spencer and his family to be apart of it. Spence, as I call him, still thinks I’m absolutely crazy for making/asking him to offer this red headed beauty! Study the stoutness, power, and structural integrity this female offers. Then, let’s get to the proven pedigree she comes with. She is one of three impressive flushmate sisters that are becoming the youngest members of the Spencer Gelbvieh donor program. Also, this female is a full sister to the mother of Vegas, the bull we purchased from Spence. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a truly elite female! AI bred to T Bar S Ace’s High 209D and pasture exposed to T Bar S Reload 27A. Pregged too close to call and due March 2020.

Homo-Black and Homo-Polled 75% females of this quality rarely go for sale, let alone one with a pedigree as unique and outcross as this one. Her sire was a past Division Champion in Denver and has made some of our most prolific females, while her dam is an embryo by Black Force and the TJB Brooke donor that was a mainstay in the Rocking B program for years. Ask Todd Bicket or Jim Blackwell what their thoughts are of the famous Brooke donor, let alone an offspring with a shot of the only Black Floto daughter in the breed. The mating possibilities are endless for this female, and I think the mating to Godfather could be a home run! AI bred to ADS Godfather 575C and pasture exposed to T Bar S Reload 27A. Will calve by sale date.

What an opportunity here! We are proud to offer choice of our lead and anchor from our 2019 Reserve National Champion Pen of Three Balancer Females. This pair of females will make incredible cows, but calve them out and get them to the flush house because that’s where they deserve to be. Both females come from some of our very best cow families, and if Coach Tom will let me, we will be sending both of their mothers to be flushed later this Fall. I’m just glad I don’t have to be the one to choose which I like best. We will be rataining the right to one flush at our own expense and at the buyer’s convenience, at some point in the future. Both heifers were AI bred to T Bar S Ace’s High 209D and pasture exposed to CJAM 301E “Vegas”.

Showing cattle in The Yards is something my family has always wanted to do; however, with us calving only in the fall for so many years, it wasn’t within good business sense to keep bulls just simply to show in the Pen Show. So, when they decided to start the Pen Heifer Show, we were pumped, and we jumped at the idea. After all of the interest that we acquired last year, we decided to bring yet another highlight to this sale by offering buyer’s choice in half embryo interest in this year’s set of pen heifers. All three heifers have differences in pedigrees, but one thing is constant: quality. I’ll let the pictures and videos do the talking. Yet again, I’m glad I’m not forced to choose which one I like best. Buyer must choose at the fall of the gaval.

Females like 139F are what makes us wake up and love what we do. This is a daughter of National Champion Lifeline and Reserve National Champion A La Mode and is a full sister to the Junior National Champion Allegiance, who is our first ever Futurity entry in Denver. There is power in the blood here, and Tip, as we call her, is one impressive female. She is as bold and thick as you can make them, with second-tonone feet and legs and a look from the side that will stop you square in your tracks. On more than one occasion, folks have called her as good of a Balancer as they’ve ever seen. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own half embryo interest in a female that is going to change the game.

When we first sent A La Mode to the flush house, we wanted to flush her to a purebred (Ace’s High), a balancer (Lifeline), and an Angus. One calf from each of those three matings are in this sale and all three are sale features. When I saw Casino at the Kansas State Fair, I called Coach Tom and Kyle and told them I put our name on the already lengthy list to get semen on him. To make this a touch shorter, that bull is a beast, and we will use him again. 113G is without question the greatest spring born show heifer prospect we have ever produced. She wasn’t weaned, washed or pampered for pictures, but if they all would look like this on the cow you would see more of our calf pictures like that. I have an incredible amount of faith in this female’s ability to be competitive and then generate dollars for her future owner.

This is a direct daughter of our 57W donor, a feature lot in this sale, and is out of our bull we bought from Stevenson Angus and now own with Brumfield Angus. This female is broke to show, but her biggest impact will be made in the pasture. Not only does she have the look of brood cow, but genetically, she comes with 7 traits in the Top 30% of the breed and a pedigree that speaks volumes here at T Bar S.

Regardless of what your goals are, this halfblood can get it done. She’s got the look, balance, structure, and body to compete at the highest level. She’s backed by our Angus herd bull and a rock solid 2106K daughter. To top it off, she has 8 traits in the Top 30% of the breed with several others knocking on that door. This is the kind we should be keeping. Let it work in your favor!

When we decided to have our very first production sale, we said that we HAVE to offer our absolute best. We’ve since been in a good old-fashioned Vehige debate on if we should offer the right to flush our lead and premier donor KDV T Bar S Al La Mode 7B. As a past Reserve National Champion herself, A La Mode has made progeny that has won Junior Nationals, and she is the mother of our Lot 1 Deuces Wild. She is Dam to Tip, who is potentially the best female we have ever raised and the lead of our show heifer division in this sale as lot 46. A La Mode has done all of this in her first round of embryo calves. What’s more unique is all these calves have been sired by three different bulls. We could go on for hours on how much this female means to our family and the impact she will have on our program from here on out. Take advantage of this chance of a lifetime because we will never offer a flush on this female to the public again.

pick of the
herd flush opportunity
Coach Tom has officially lost it!! We are proud to offer a flush on any female on the place that is solely owned by T Bar S. We will never again offer this opportunity. We are 100% committed to offering the very best. My parents, my siblings, and I have devoted the last 25 years to this business and have worked to reach the point we can have our own production sale. I couldn’t possibly list all of the females I think could impact other programs, so with questions please call [Justin] at (573)-690-3813. I can literally talk about these cattle for as long as you will let me. Buyer must make their choice within 30 days after sale day.
