Saho Hiroe
YEA R 7
YEAR 8
Born in 2009 in Sydney, Eason commenced piano lessons eight years ago and joined All Saints in 2022. His previous teachers have included Alexey Koltakov and Natalia Raspopova. He now studies with Jennifer Newcomb.
Saho has been playing the violin for around four years studying with David Dalseno (the second violinist in the Orava String Quartet) and Nigel Bardsley at All Saints Anglican School.
Eason has completed a number of AMEB piano examinations and has secured trophies and placings at several prestigious competitions. One of his professional highlights was placing third in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod championships in 2021. Eason has had many prominent performance experiences, including with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music yearly at Verbrugghen Hall. He also regularly plays at churches as part of The Magic of Music initiative. Eason has undertaken piano masterclasses by Konstantin Shamray (2008 Sydney International Piano Competition winner) the AMEB’s Kevin Power and Professor Peter Roennfeldt of Griffith University. In addition to piano, Eason also plays the flute. In 2021, he received a High Distinction in his AMEB Grade 5 exam and is currently preparing for the Grade 7 exam. Eason plays flute in the Holst Wind Ensemble, sings in the Brumby Boys Chorus and plays in the Middle School Flute Ensemble as the alto flutist. Eason aims to complete his piano LMUSA exam in July 2022 and one day hopes to become an internationally renowned musician.
She has participated in many Gold Coast and Beenleigh Eisteddfods and has sat several AMEB exams. She is leader of the Marigold String Quartet and plays in Amadeus Strings. For the 2022 Concerto Competition, she looks forward to playing one of her favourite pieces, Concerto No.1 in A Minor composed by Bach. Next year, Saho will attempt the Grade 8 AMEB violin exam and, if successful, will soon after begin preparing for an AMUSA diploma. Saho says that music has truly improved her confidence over the years and has become an avenue through which she is able to easily express her emotions. She sincerely believes that music is one of the best ways for individuals to connect and bond regardless of age, nationality, or cultural background. Music brings everyone together.

Alex Caban
YEA R 9
YEAR 1 0
Crystal is a pianist in Year 9 who started playing the piano when she was four years old - and has loved the instrument ever since!
Alex first picked up a trombone to play in All Saints’ Year 5 Band Program after being inspired by a wonderful demonstration from Mr Bob Evans, then Head of Bands at All Saints.
Crystal is currently studying under piano teacher Jennifer Newcomb and is a member of All Saints’ Amadeus Strings and Melba Girls’ Choir musical groups. She is also a cast member in the upcoming Middle School production Bigtime. Crystal hopes to complete her AmusA exam in July of this year and aspires to sit her LmusA before she graduates. At the 2022 Concerto Competition, she will be playing Beethoven’s first concerto, Concerto Op.1 No.15 third movement. Crystal has achieved many awards at various competitions including the Gold Coast and Beenleigh Eisteddfods. In 2021, Crystal placed third for the Queensland Piano competition in the 15 and Under section. In the future, Crystal aspires to become a piano teacher so that she can pass on her passion for the piano and hopefully inspire more children to fall in love with the instrument, just as she did.
Alex chose the trombone because he thought it was an interesting instrument that made a beautifully rich sound. At the end of the Band Program’s first term, Alex thought he would not be allowed to continue the trombone as he already played two other instruments. After weighing the options and responsibilities, Alex stuck to his passion and was permitted to continue having lessons on the trombone - a decision for which he is very grateful. Alex only started learning the alto trombone in December last year after borrowing the relatively rare instrument from the School. This was a new and challenging experience, as it required Alex to learn completely new positions, a new clef and new methods for breath control. “Playing the alto trombone suits the baroque and classical era of music very well in contrast to my tenor trombone which suits the romantic and contemporary era,” he says. In addition to the trombone, Alex has played violin since the age of four. One day he hopes to play the trombone in a full symphony orchestra. As for a career outside of music, Alex wants to become an engineer that works with wheels and wings.

Zac Marcos
Georgia Ogge
YEA R 11
YEAR 1 1
Zac has been studying classical piano and music theory for the past 10 years with Deborah Hinton. He has also taken lessons in viola with Grace Choi for the past seven years.
Georgia commenced singing tuition at the age of eight after discovering that her violin teacher, Kellie Wilson (alumna and former All Saints music captain) was also a vocal teacher.
Zac’s accomplishments on the piano include passing all of his AMEB examinations with honours and high distinctions, receiving a blue ribbon in the Somerset Festival and obtaining full marks in both performance and composition areas for All Saints’ curriculum Music subject. He is currently studying for his Grade 8 exams for both piano and viola.
Georgia is currently studying classical voice with Gaynor Morgan and will sit Grade 7 AMEB later in the year. Georgia has regularly competed at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and her notable awards over the years include winning the Junior Vocal Championship in 2016 and receiving The Ella Saunders Award in 2019, an accolade given to the most promising classical singer 20 years and under.
Zac joined All Saints in 2021 and is a committed member of the Senior Strings and Senior Chorus ensembles, as well as the Music Honours program. At his previous school, Zac was the lead-violist for the orchestras and pianist for the big band. He aspires to continue studying music after Year 12 in Brisbane at either the University of Queensland School of Music or the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.
Last year, Georgia was awarded first place at the All Saints Vocal Festival and in 2019 she performed with Opera Australia in the Regional Tour of Madama Butterfly. She has also performed in many community theatres and All Saints musicals. Georgia’s other musical inclinations include playing the flute in the Malcolm Arnold Wind and Senior Flute Ensembles, and singing with All Saints Voices. She is a Music Honours student. Georgia plans to continue classical voice in her tertiary years, preferably at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.

Thank you On the occasion of our 12th Concerto Competition finals, we would like to thank our wonderful adjudicators for both the Middle School and Senior School heats, Jeanette and Camillio Manricks. We are honoured to have Mr Simon Hewett and Dr Stephen Emmerson adjudicate the final as well as perform with the students. This is a special treat for all of us. Thank you to the hard-working and supportive Friends of Performing Arts for supplying dinner for the orchestra before the concert and for running the Goodwill Café in the foyer during the evening. We express our gratitude to Mr Steve Lewis and his multimedia team for giving their time to film the concert. We also cannot forget the the hours of preparation by our music teachers and piano accompanists that go into creating an event like this - thank you all for helping bring the performances of all students involved in the Concerto Competition to fruition.
