pink was FROM THE DIRECTOR
I am not sure what Canon Len Nairn and architect Ron Burling envisioned for the Nairn Theatre 25 years ago when they dreamed it up, but very much doubt it would have included the ‘bend and snap’!
Legally Blonde the Musical delivers everything you expect from the 2001 blockbuster film. Malibu accents, handbag dogs, stiletto heels and high-end couture have loudly and proudly vogued, bended, snapped and shaken their way onto stage this year; however, like our very own Elle Woods, I believe this show is much more than its perfectly mani/pedi-ed veneer.
At the (Tiffany) heart of this musical is a thoughtful exploration of selfacceptance, pursuing dreams (despite obstinacy) and discovering that love can blossom in places one may not expect. Elle is unfalteringly kind, optimistic and, ultimately, true to herself—even when that glossy pink sense of self is so at odds with the tweedy truth that surrounds her. Elle never apologises for who she is and triumphs in no small part because of it.
On a much larger scale, Legally Blonde calls us to action. It
unapologetically asks us to challenge cultural assumptions about appearances, gender roles and societal expectations. As Vivienne surmises before the final curtain comes down: ‘Elle Woods shows us all that being true to yourself never goes out of style’.
It has taken an absolute powerhouse of incredibly selfless and savvy Sorority Sisters and Fraternity Brothers to make this production glimmer. Hundreds of hours have been so generously donated by our talented staff, devoted parents and big-hearted volunteers; a production of this magnitude frankly could not happen without them. Huge Elle Woods ‘snaps’ to all of you!
And to our students—for your verve, your passion and your dream to be extraordinary—props to you! No doubt Elle Woods would Jimmy Choos each of you to be part of her ultimate show-stopping ensemble. What a delight it is to witness your discovery of the unbridled joy and glorious sugar rush that results from dedication, perseverance, hard work, and sharing your talents with the world.

SYNOPSIS
First Act Second Act
The girls of UCLA’s sorority, Delta Nu, celebrate the expected engagement of their president, Elle Woods, to her boyfriend Warner Huntington III, who is expected to propose that night. Led by Margot, Serena and Pilar, the girls help Elle find the perfect dress for the occasion (Omigod You Guys); however, when Elle goes on her dinner date with Warner, things don’t go as planned (Serious). Elle is devastated (Daughter of Delta Nu) but decides to follow Warner to Harvard Law School. With help from Delta Nu sister Kate, Elle passes the entrance exam, but instead of writing a personal essay, Elle bursts into the Harvard admission offices backed by a squad of cheerleaders (What You Want). At Harvard, Elle’s high-achieving classmates disapprove and the only person who is willing to help her is law-teaching assistant Emmett Forrest (The Harvard Variations); however, even he cannot protect her in class from the bloodthirsty Professor Callahan (Blood In The Water). Callahan kicks the underprepared Elle out of class at the suggestion of her classmate Vivienne Kensington, who happens to be Warner’s new girlfriend. This “tragedy” summons the apparitions of the sisters of Delta Nu, who, acting as a Greek chorus visible and audible only to Elle, encourage her to remain optimistic (Positive).
Elle, believing that being blonde is the problem, heads to the Hair Affair salon where she meets beautician Paulette, who dreams of meeting a handsome Irishman (Ireland). At the salon, Vivienne gives Elle an invitation to a supposed “costume party”, to which Elle turns up in fancy dress only to be humiliated. Despite this, Elle still seeks out Warner to win him back, but he remains unimpressed (Serious (Reprise)). Elle runs from the party, only to meet Emmett, who encourages her to make her own priorities in life (Chip on My Shoulder). Freed from her need to please Warner, Elle helps Paulette get her dog back from her ex-boyfriend, and wins one of Callahan’s coveted internship positions (So Much Better).
Act Two begins with fitness queen Brooke Wyndham and her fitness team’s workout video, which is being viewed by Callahan and his four interns (Whipped into Shape). At the jail, Callahan tells the legal team that Brooke is accused of murdering her billionaire husband, but he has been unable to get Brooke to tell them him alibi. Upon learning that they were both Delta Nu sisters, Brooke then privately shares the truth and Elle promises not to tell anyone (Delta Nu Nu Nu). Because of Elle’s loyalty to her client and refusal to state the alibi, Elle, and consequently Emmett, are shunned by the group. To cheer Emmett up and to increase his chances of impressing Callahan, Elle gives him a makeover (Take It Like a Man). Back at the salon, Elle is getting a manicure when Kyle, a handsome courier, walks into the salon to deliver a package. Paulette is infatuated with Kyle, but her low selfconfidence prevents her from making a move. The Delta Nu girls then appear to help Paulette refine a signature dance move to impress Kyle (Bend and Snap).
At the murder trial, the sexuality of Brooke’s pool boy, Nikos, is called into question and Elle helps reveal the truth (There! Right There! (Gay or European?)). Later that night in Callahan’s office, the interns celebrate only for Elle to be placed in a compromising position. A defeated Elle prepares to go home, despite Emmett asking her to stay, finally realizing that he is in love with her (Legally Blonde). Elle heads to the Hair Affair to say goodbye to Paulette, but before she can leave, she is convinced of her worth (Legally Blonde Remix) and Brooke puts Elle in charge of her legal defence. In court, Elle uses her extensive knowledge of hair care chemistry to uncover the actual murderer (Scene of the Crime), she realises that she can make it as a lawyer (Find My Way) and we finish with her triumphant graduation from Harvard Law School (Finale).
MEET THE Principal Cast
What can we all learn from Elle? Definitely her positivity. I think it’s contagious! She always looks on the bright side.
What would you steal from Elle’s wardrobe? I definitely love those shin-high pink boots... they are amazing.
What fun stuff goes on behind the scenes? Overall just making fun of each other (in a kind way!), especially the principals because we spend so much time together. But the whole cast is so wonderful.
Warner Huntington \\\
How do you relate to Warner? I find those less ‘positive’ traitsthe vanity, the egotism - and work that into him. But I also try to give him a more emotional side. He’s been a bit damaged!
What is the new ‘pink’? Seeking self-improvement is the new trend at the moment. I think everyone just wants to better themselves.
Who is a castmate you admire? Ally who plays Enid. It’s her first show on stage and she has the most beautiful voice.
Favourite number in the show? I’m a BIG fan of Bend and Snap
It’s such a fun routine, and it’s about girls supporting each other.
What will you never forget about LB? The cast and the vibes!
What can we all learn from Elle? That girls can do anything they want to do. You don’t have to feel like a man needs to help you get where you want to go, and you can do it while wearing whatever you want - be comfortable in yourself!
What’s awesome about being a Delta Nu? We get to have tons of fun going on Elle’s adventures, and we are always there to brigten up her mood. We get to be ourselves with the characters.
Favourite number in the show? Probably Positive. It’s a big dance number, and that’s when [the Delta Nus] first appear in Elle’s mind. It’s a big fun dance and there’s so many funny lines. It’s awesome. Dream musical role? Probably Christine from Phantom of the Opera.
How’s this
If you’re not a ‘musical’ person, why is this a good experience? Because it gives you aan opportunity to seek out something you normally wouldn’t. Plus making friendships is the absolute best thing.
What is a Delta Nu life lesson? It’s about the importance of friendship. Supporting those you love while they chase their dreams. What makes this show iconic? The 2000’s vibes. All the costumes, the clothes and just that incredible time period.

this essay? personal
Most hilarious rehearsal moment? Probably Micah Hendrickson’s first time doing Gay or European. He let out this crazy high squeal that none of us were expecting, and the whole cast blew up! A castmate you admire? Our ‘Elle’ - Isabelle. When we were all learning our lines at home, she was doing that while on vacation. What makes this show iconic? How ‘feel good’ it is. Everyone gets a happy ending (except for that one guy who doesn’t deserve it...).
What’s the best thing about an All Saints musical? EVERYONE puts in everything they’ve got. Not only that, there is so much talent. Why would Vivienne reccomend LB? It’s a show where even the villains get ‘tickled pink’ in the end. It’s just generally legendary. Are you pursuing an arts career? I’m hoping to study classical singing after graduating from school.
What fun stuff happens behind the scenes? The little in-jokes we all have. At times, when I’m on stage and I peek sidestage, people will be making funny faces. Have you picked up any legal ‘know-how’? I feel like I’ve learned a few things! Maybe I could give it a crack in the real court. What makes Callahan a great character? His ruthlessness. He’s willing to do anything to get the job done - it can be a good and bad thing!
Ally
What is the most challenging number in the show? Probably Legally Blonde Remix because there’s so many different set moves. Why would you recommend LB? It’s a very empowering musical and a lesson to never give up on yourself, keep fighting and always show your true colours.
Speaking of colours... what’s the new ‘pink’? I think anything can be interpreted as the new pink! Whatever you enjoy can be your new pink.
Biggest blonde moment in rehearsal? I wasn’t needed for the first couple of weeks of rehearsals, but when it was finally my turn to get to take the stage... I blanked... “what was I doing again?”
What will you never forget about LB? The cast, the way that everyone has bonded and, of course, the Bend and Snap! What goes on backstage? We’ll be lip syncing, dancing and generally mucking around with the props.
Biggest blonde moment in rehearsal? When I was skipping once, I accidentally let go of the rope and hit somebody in the face. How do you relate to Brooke? She’s a boss (naughty word!). Brooke’s a very strong powerful woman and definitely knows what she wants, and I love her that way. She’s a bit of a baddie!
A castmate you admire? All three lead Delta Nu girls. They do so much singing AND dancing. They are phenomenal.
