From the Old Saints’ President Welcome to Issue 18 of Dovetails, our Old Saints magazine. This is our second digital edition and in the future Dovetails will continue to be published online. With some COVID-19 restrictions easing in Western Australia, the Old Saints were able to reschedule Reunions, Beers, Bubbles and Bites and our Committee meetings. We are delighted to be able to host these exciting events; it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and innovation of the Old Saints’ Committee and wider community adapting to life during this year of uncertainty. On Friday 6 November, our annual Beers, Bubbles and Bites (BBB) event will take place, with Old Saints taking a trip down memory lane to see how the College has changed, while catching up with former teachers and peers over drinks and canapés. Throughout August, we hosted the 10, 20 and 25 Year Reunions, with great turnouts of Old Saints at each event. In September, our Class of 1985 gathered for our inaugural 35 Year Reunion. Over 30 Old Saints and former staff members attended this significant and special reunion. At this year’s event, we are focused on giving back to our Old Saints’ community. We are pleased to announce that Smile Events, founded by Chris Fell (1988) and his wife

Our alumni network will be providing music for the night. You can register for this year’s Beers, Bubbles and Bites by clicking HERE. One way in which former students can give back to the community is by volunteering for the Old Saints’ Committee. We meet four times a year and strive to evolve and develop the Old Saints. We are always looking for more members to join the committee! If you would like further information, please email oldsaints@allsaints.wa.edu.au It is important you keep your details up to date, as this enables you to remain connected to the College, find out about Old Saints’ events, and discover potential networking opportunities. I hope you enjoy this edition of Dovetails and catching up on our alumni news from the past six months. Adrienne Wright (née Hartley, 1986) Old Saints’ President

Chris Fell (1988) – Smile Events Smile Events was founded in 2019 by Chris Fell (1988) and his wife, Chelsea, when they identified a significant gap in the events industry. They decided they would start up a one-stop, flexible and fun event business. Smile Events offers services that includes catering, equipment, furniture and decorations for a range of events including corporate catering, special milestones, sporting club events and family gatherings. While many caterers outsource décor, Chris and Chelsea differentiate themselves by designing decor from scratch in their warehouse. They use their own products to ensure the best quality is delivered. Accommodating and attentive, Chris and Chelsea also offer customised menus and provide event management services to suit each event. Chris and Chelsea believe food is a way of showing love and appreciation and

Olivia Spear (2015) – Silver Key Films
Dr Andrew Wilson (2010 – The Foot Science Clinic
Silver Key Films was founded in 2018 by Olivia Spear whose passion for media inspired her to start the business.
The Foot Science Clinic is a recently established podiatry business run by Old Saint Dr Andrew Wilson. The clinic uses the latest technology to offer evidence-based treatments.
Olivia has been passionate about media from the very moment she first held a camera. She started creating home videos at the age of nine with her camcorder and Windows Live Movie Maker. Shortly after, Olivia created a YouTube channel with a focus on montages and gaming content which attracted over 300 000 views. Olivia knew she wanted to make this passion a reality and started studying a Bachelor of Arts degree at Curtin University, majoring in Screen Arts. After stumbling across an American wedding videography company, Olivia noticed a shortage of videographers offering end-to-end services, including pre-production, production and post-production in the Perth market. She decided to defer her degree and took the plunge to start her own business, Silver Key Films offering end-to-end services.
Silver Key Films services include, but are not limited to, Wedding and Event Videography, Commercial Videography, Social Media Advertisement and Drone Footage. Olivia is constantly upskilling her knowledge of the media industry by enrolling in courses and creating mentorships with international videographers and their businesses.
Andrew completed a degree at The University of Western Australia in Exercise Health and Science. He further went on to study a medical degree specialising in Podiatry. After working in several clinics, Andrew felt there was a lack of enthusiasm to embrace new technology and the advancement of new treatments that are readily available. Wanting to provide holistic and effective treatment, he founded The Foot Science Clinic to bring patients the most recent treatments and to invest in new equipment that is clinically proven to show results.
The Foot Science Clinic offers a variety of different services, including High Power Laser Therapy for the management of acute pathologies (sprains, strains, inflammation) and Focused Shockwave Therapy for the treatment of chronic pathologies (tendinopathies, muscular pathologies etc). Andrew’s clinic also offers Swift Microwave Therapy for the treatment of Verrucas/Warts on hands as well as feet, and many other services. Andrew’s dedicated approach to podiatry is focused on a tailored approach to help diagnose, treat and manage all conditions affecting the lower limbs.

Adam Tucker Monica Leslie Cameron Lawrence Connor Lorrigan Mia Parsons
Mia Parsons (2009) London, England Mia studied public relations at TAFE after graduating from ASC. Unsure if this was the right career path for her, she decided to spend six months travelling around Asia and Europe. Whilst travelling, Mia found herself in London where she fell in love with the likeminded people and culture and knew she wanted to call London her home. Starting a variety of temp jobs in London, Mia found her passion working in the food health and safety industry at a restaurant chain. This developed into a permanent role where she climbed the corporate ladder to become the Incident Manager. She is responsible for handling incidents that occur throughout the 470 chain restaurants, crisis management and influencing policy and process changes. Mia keeps in touch with high school friends and frequently sees her classmate and fellow Old Saint Casey Pippet (2009), who also lives in London.
Cameron Lawrence (2009) Bavaria, Germany After leaving the College in 2009, Cameron worked in the wine distribution industry which inspired him to learn more about the fine art of winemaking, so he enrolled at Curtin University. After completing his studies, he moved to Margaret River where he worked in the wine industry for a few years, gaining valuable knowledge and experience, and making good friends. However,
after several years, Cameron decided to switch careers to study a technical degree overseas. He moved to Schweinfurt in Bavaria, Germany (a major industrial, cultural and educational hub) where he is currently studying a degree in Mechatronics. Cameron mentions his experience has been rewarding and has increased his appreciation of those who have pursued a higher education in science and engineering subjects. Cameron highly recommends studying in a different country, as the opportunity to learn a new culture and language is a valuable add-on to university studies. He is excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for him.
Connor Lorrigan (2012) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia While at All Saints’, Connor demonstrated a talent and love for the Arts. It is therefore no surprise that he has pursued a career which allows him to regularly express his creativity. Completing internships in the industry helped kick-start his career, and he now works as a furniture designer in Kuala Lumpur. Before moving to Kuala Lumpur, Connor lived in Melbourne where he was able to enjoy his passion for AFL. Connor’s passion for design is evergrowing, and he is excited to create new furniture designs. To view Connor’s work, please visit his Instagram page: @lorrigandesigns.

Her research led her to London where she completed her PhD in Psychological Medicine Research at King’s College. During this time, Monica designed a clinical trial testing a novel treatment of bulimia nervosa which was delivered across 17 clinics in the National Health System (NHS). Monica is excited to be pursuing a new challenge this year, taking on a different role as a senior researcher and lecturer in psychosocial oncology, where she will work on developing and testing the effectiveness of online psychological support for cancer patients. In her spare time, Monica enjoys figure skating at the National Ice Sports Centre of Wales. She also plays tennis and touch rugby, and is working on perfecting her French.

unique works using Fineline pens. While skateboarding in his new hometown, Adam connected with like-minded peers who helped him secure a role as a chef in a family-owned business. Adam graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology this year and is excited about the opportunities his degree has opened up. He can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Magnus Bjerkan (2002) Trondheim, Norway Currently living in Norway, Magnus works as an Application Analyst for Helseplattformen AS, a Norwegian company which focuses on creating a common patient record system at hospitals and municipalities. To increase awareness and raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia, ASC Basketball Club coach and past parent, Mr Kris Barnes, is aiming to dunk a basketball by October to coincide with Breast Cancer Month. In support of those in our community affected by cancer, Kris and Old Saint basketballer Chris Ivison (2018) are working together to raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia. As well as fundraising, the initiative hopes to have a positive influence on players, families and other sporting teams. There has been tremendous support from the players in Kris’ two teams who hope to spread their message to the wider community. Tiffany says she is excited about the opportunity to learn from leaders in the climate space and what is being enacted globally, which will help broaden her knowledge and assist her in her goal of positively contributing to the landscape of climate reporting nationwide and influencing carbon discussions in Australia. Tiffany is passionate about making a meaningful difference in addressing the effects of climate change. We wish her all the best in her endeavours, and look forward to seeing her achievements and outcomes in the climate change space.

Serving as a Rifleman with the Army Reserve in 2015, Anthony was deployed on Operation Resolute (based out of Darwin) and also served in Malaysia for several months. Motivated to return to university after a year of service, Anthony graduated with a double major in Economics and Finance. Wanting to continue his studies, he then completed a Master of Science in Applied Analytics at Columbia University in New York.
After completing her Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and moving to Albany, WA in 2017, Ashley started working in the field of youth mental health. Ashley worked on a team which launched the first regional Comet CaRE School, supporting young people who have disengaged from mainstream education by offering them a transitional alternative, as well as high levels of teaching and pastoral care.
As an internship at a financial technology startup company based in New York transitioned into a full-time job, Anthony soon found himself enthralled in the fast-paced working culture of New York, as well as the excitement the bustling city has to offer.
Ashley’s community interests also led her to join the Board of the Albany Community Foundation, where individuals who have found themselves in hard times can apply for financial aid from a pool of funds donated by the Great Southern community.
When he is not working, Anthony enjoys experiencing the different aspects of New York – from the bustling nightlife to hiking and snowboarding just outside the city.
In her spare time, Ashley and her partner, Jared, make the most of the beauty that the Great Southern has to offer, such as surfing, and also spending time with their family and friends. Ashley hopes to finish her psychology registration by 2022 and delve deeper into ways she can grow the existing support networks for young people and their families in regional areas.

Alette graduated with a Double Bachelor of Business and Arts, majoring in Japanese and Sustainable Enterprise, and now works to help reduce the environmental impact of the cleaning industry.
Alette’s work is also reflected in her personal life. Passionate about sustainable living, Alette currently lives in peaceful, rural Southern Queensland in a tiny house and aims to help the planet by reducing her energy and water usage.

When she is not working, Tori can be found outrigger canoeing. She is currently the Vice President of the West Australian Zone for Outrigger Canoe, and competes competitively for the Hurricane Paddling crew where she is the coach and membership officer. Tori has raced both nationally and internationally, and last year took out the national title for the women’s marathon OC2 division. She is currently working to train a crew for the Ramon challenge, which is held on the Swan River over the last 15km of the Avon Descent course.
