What makes a good Reunion? Reunions cannot take place without the help of a Class Coordinator who brings the year group together. As from next year, all Reunions will be held in the new Theatre, so all we need is for a coordinator to use their Social Media network to “rally the troops”. The 20 Year Reunion (Class of 1992) was one of the most successful due to the determination and passion of the Class Coordinator, Brett Heatley. “It has been a pleasure helping to organise the 20 Year Reunion, along with Naomi Bain (neè Caple). Seeing each of my three children start Kindergarten at All Saints’ has reinvigorated my passion for the College. With the prospect of them knowing their peers throughout all of their school life, I am reminded of some of the friendships I still share today with my year group, 20 years later. Reunions are a fantastic part of this process of keeping in touch and should be a celebration of our successes over the years, from the solid base that our schooling gave us and helps to retain and build on the remarkable history of All Saints’ College.” Brett said. old saints newsletter

The inaugural Old Saints Committee was formed in 1986 to establish a connection between the College and its former students. Today, the committee has evolved into a strong body of former students who strive to maintain those links and stay connected. The relationships you build while at ASC can turn into lifelong friendships and establish a sound network for later career development. Above is a photo of some of our current Old Saints Committee Members: L-R: Petra Lushey (2002) is about to spread her wings and start travelling again after having worked as a Primary School Teacher at an Anglican school in Perth; Adam Goor (2007) is in his final year of Chemistry at Curtin University; Sian Angel (neè Morgan, 2002) is our former President and after working as a teacher at Santa Maria has gone to Canada to work for two years; Dave Burbidge (1987) is a longstanding member of the Committee and an IT guru; Gemma Peters (2002) is teaching in the Junior School at Penrhos College after enjoying working
and living in Europe; Mark Balding (1998) owns his own IT firm and is currently completing a Masters in Leadership and Management. He has two children in the Junior School; Rebecca Long (2010) is studying Medicine at UWA; Simon Stone (1985) and Sonia Johnson (1985) are both Foundation Students, Board of Management members and also have children at All Saints’. Simon is also the Chair of the ASC Foundation and is Director of Technology Consulting & Product Management for a global mining & geological consulting company. Sonia is working at Princess Margaret Hospital, Child & Adolescent Health Service in the CLASP Lifestyle Clinic. After living in Japan for eight years, Bruce Uchiyama-Lee (1986) works as a School Administrator (Acting) at a K-12 school. If you would like to be actively involved on the Old Saints Committee please feel free to attend one of the meetings. We have four meetings a year and the only prerequisite is a passion for keeping the Old Saints connected!

ASC welcomes fifth Principal in 2013 The Board of All Saints’ College is very pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Belinda Provis as Principal of the College. Belinda is currently Principal of Seymour College in Adelaide and will be joining ASC from the beginning of Term 2 in 2013. Belinda is originally from Albany, and has taught in a number of Western Australian and eastern states schools. In the past ten years at Seymour College she has developed the school into a leader of scholarship and community service and we are very fortunate to have attracted her and her husband Mark back to her home state.
Old Saints e-Mentoring Program Emily Rainey (1994) has the e-Mentoring Program off to a wonderful start by making contact via email with a current Year 12 student, telling her about her career path with the Australian Government Aid Program - AusAID in Kenya. AusAID helps people overcome poverty and coordinates Australia’s response to humanitarian disasters in developing countries. Emily loves working in a job where she can have such a large and positive impact on people. She has been fortunate enough to live in Indonesia, the Philippines and Canberra before being based in Kenya. Much of her work is centred around Somalia and northern Kenya, which unfortunately is too dangerous to travel to. However, Emily likes to reflect on the things that AusAID can achieve and how they make a real difference. If you can help with e-Mentoring, please do not hesitate to contact: Mrs Grace Itzstein, Career Counsellor at grace.itzstein@allsaints.wa.edu.au

Competition Winner Congratulations to Julian Leong (2007) who won the Name the Old Saints’ Newsletter Competition with his entry DOVETAILS and the subheading Keeping Old Saints Connected. Julian explained that Dovetails is a play on words for the word tails, or tales relating to stories from or about former students. Also, a dovetail is a connection point, where there is an interconnecting joint. But in the case of our newsletter the connection point is ‘Keeping Old Saints Connected’. Julian is pictured above being presented with a Garden City gift voucher for $100 by Fr Braden Short, Principal (Acting) (Left) and Director of Community Relations, Mr Anthony Radich (Right).

“Interesting; it opened my mind to different aspects of both universities and experienced people in the workforce. It was great that a variety of people came to share their experiences with us, especially speaking to the Old Saints.” Year 10 student. “Well set out and everyone was very friendly. I loved the wide variety of people and the idea of having Old Saints was very effective as I got information straight from the horse’s mouth, rather than from a university only.” Year 10 student. This year, students from all year groups descended on the Dance Studio (formally called PAC) to meet with more than 80 presenters, 23 of whom were Old Saints. The biggest turn-out ever of past students allowed the current cohort to relate more realistically to where their future careers may take them. Current students felt very at ease speaking with the Old Saints, who generously volunteered their time to attend the Expo and we thank them for supporting this event. We were proud to have the Old Saints represent so many industries. Archives is always on the look-out for memorabilia to add to their growing collection. Committee Members donned their uniforms before parting with them to help build a wonderful history of the College. Currently, Archives are well stocked with blazers but are keen to obtain any Leavers Jackets, Team Uniforms or Rowing Jackets. If you have any of these items and can bear to part with them, please contact Mary Thornton, Alumni & Promotions Officer: mary.thornton@allsaints.wa.edu.au
