his July the Wiltshire Music Centre launches its 2015 Summer Fun Kids' Festival, a vibrant three week festival of summer holiday music, dance and arts activities for children and young people. A feast of hands-on, creative and fun experiences, there are magical activities for all ages, from precrawlers to 19 years old – the perfect opportunity to introduce babies and toddlers to the arts and live music for the first time. ecent findings from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that marriage is on the increase, and the biggest upturn is seen in the over-65s. Commentators have put the increase in later-life marriage down to the good health and greater wealth of the babyboomer generation. Their parents thought that they were too old to remarry once they’d reached pension age, but today’s over-65s know that it’s not too late to start a new life. “Although the law is the same for those marrying or divorcing at any age, there are aspects of family law that are more pertinent to the older client,” says
Sarah Jackson, Head of Family Law at BLB Solicitors.
Separating With older couples, often one of them will have given up their career to raise children and contributed less to the mortgage and pensions but still had a vital role in the marriage. On divorce, provision needs to be made to ensure assets and income are shared equitably during retirement. If separation comes after illness, provision may need to be made for on-going treatment. An older couple might also need to consider their respective inheritance prospects, care for elderly relatives and how to deal with second homes or timeshares.

We kick off with our wonderful Sculpture Garden Exhibition from the 18th to 26th July at Lynchetts showing an inspiring exhibition of contemporary sculptures by local
sculptors and a few special guests from further afield. The main Festival runs from the 5th – 20th September and this year’s theme is Flower Power. There will be many opportunities to get involved be you a poet, painter, photographer or lantern maker.
Small & Beautiful – here is a chance to own a small picture which could be painted by a famous painter or local gifted amateur. On show during the Festival will be a hundred or more works of art for sale all at the same price of £10. But the identity of the artist is kept secret until after purchase. Saxon Church
T
he last two months have seen scaffolding enveloping the Saxon Church and residents and visitors are wondering why.
The Saxon Church Trustees undertook a rolling programme of removing the cement pointing and replacing it with the correct lime mortar.
Benfold and Michael Weltike, Stonemasons/Artists, have painstakingly removed the cement without damage to the stones and sensitively re-pointed with the correct lime mortar.
The project started last year and should be completed by the middle of May 2015.
The Trust is deeply grateful to all who have gone the extra mile. It is a superb job. We hope you will enjoy looking at the work.

tory of the intense relationships between Robert Schumann, his wife Clara and Johannes Brahms has always fascinated music lovers. This programme of music and readings brings their history to life. It chronicles the sometimes troubled marriage of Clara and Robert, the arrival in their household of the dynamic, 21-year-old Brahms, Robert’s decline into mental illness and the deepening relationship between Clara and Brahms, the exact nature of which has never been established. Music by all three is performed by the awardwinning pianist Lucy Parham, interspersed with extracts from their letters and diaries, with readings performed by celebrated actors Joanna David and Edward Fox. Soil is vital for life on earth and the fight against Climate Change. There is a growing realisation that what we do to soils can seriously impact on our future, which is why the United Nations has declared 2015 International Year of Soils.

ell known artist Jonathan Mulvaney is to show his new paintings in Bradford on Avon on Saturday the 20th and Sunday 21st of June. Documentary film maker Paul Watson has offered his unique stone garden to show some 30 of the artist’s paintings. “I was happy to offer the garden in which I have found much pleasure since my arrival in this friendly community. Throughout my travels while directing my films I have witnessed that a society without art is a less happy place. Hopefully there will be no rain, certainly no lectures; I shall simply make the cake and pour the tea”. ormer head-chef at the Michelin-star winning River Cafe, Theo Randall provides us with a mouth-watering recipe infused with the summer sun, herbs and sprinkles as only he can combine them. Alongside this we wanted to share a little bit more about the man in the chef’s garb before letting you loose on his culinary ideas and inspired cook books. Known for whipping together the fastest 3 egg omelette on “Saturday Morning Kitchen”, Theo has more serious culinary credentials to his name. Having learned his trade with Max Magarian at Chez Max in London and with Alice Waters in San Francisco, his 10 years as Head Chef at the River Cafe were the perfect springboard for his own restaurant “Theo Randall at the InterContinental Park Lane” which has won numerous awards including Best Italian Restaurant of the The Year from the London Restaurant Awards, Best Italian/ Mediterranean over £50 in Harden’s 2013, and the highest
ranked Italian on the Sunday Times Food List 2013. Jamie Oliver got his first TV break years ago when working under Theo at the River Cafe and gave the following endorsement of his work opposite. Both men share a fascination with Italy. RECIPE METHOD 1 hour 10 minutes 1. Mix together the olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and rosemary in a bowl. Add the lamb rump and turn to coat with this marinade, rubbing it in well. Set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes. 2. Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Peel the onion squash, cut it in half and remove the seeds. Cut the squash into 3cm wedges. Peel the jerusalem artichokes and cut into quarters. Cut the peeled carrots lengthways in half. 3. Bring a pot of salted water to the boil, add all the vegetables and cook for 4–5 minutes until tender. Drain, then tip into a bowl. Add the olive oil, thyme

and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Toss so all the vegetable pieces are coated with the seasoned oil. 4. Spread out the vegetables in an ovenproof dish, cover with foil and roast for about 20 minutes until tender. Remove the foil and return to the oven to brown the vegetables for 5 minutes. 5. While the vegetables are roasting, cook the lamb. Pat it dry with kitchen paper to remove any excess marinade, then season the lamb with salt and pepper. Heat an ovenproof frying pan and, when very hot, sear the lamb rump on all sides. Transfer to the oven to finish cooking for 4–5 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to rest for a couple of minutes.

CHOP the herbs really finely and transfer to a bowl. Immediately cover with the olive oil so the herbs don’t turn brown.
100g flat-leaf parsley leaves 50g wild rocket 30g mint leaves 25g picked marjoram leaves 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 2 anchovy fillets (packed in oil), drained 1½ tbsp capers in vinegar, drained ¼ garlic clove, peeled 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, or to taste sea salt & freshly ground black pepper
POUND the anchovies, capers and garlic together using a pestle and mortar to make a paste.
Literally ‘green sauce’, this has many variations, using different herbs and flavourings. It is a really useful sauce to serve with all kinds of meat, fish, poultry and vegetable dishes.
6. Slice the lamb lengthways into four pieces. Serve on the roasted vegetables, with a good spoonful of salsa verde on top of the lamb.
MIX in the herbs (with the oil) and add Dijon mustard to taste. SEASON with salt and pepper (be careful with the salt as anchovies and capers are both quite salty). This is best used freshly made, but any leftovers can be kept in a covered bowl or jar in the fridge for a couple of days – put a layer of olive oil on the surface of the salsa to prevent it from discolouring. Almond Tart This tart makes a very versatile dessert because it can be served with all kinds of fruit. For example, in summer it is lovely with raspberries and crème fraîche or with baked fresh apricots (to bake apricots, cut them in half and remove the stones, then spread in a baking dish and sprinkle with vanilla sugar and Amaretto to taste; bake at 180°C until soft). Pears baked with lemon and sugar are good too. In winter try the tart with marinated prunes. It is always best freshly baked, when the pastry is crisp and the filling moist.

For the almond filling INGREDIENTS 300g blanched (skinned) almonds 300g unsalted butter, softened 300g caster sugar 3 organic eggs crème fraîche, to serve
METHOD 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line the tart case with baking parchment and fill with baking beans. Blind bake for 15 minutes until golden in colour. Remove the paper and baking beans, then return the tart case to the oven to bake for a further 5 minutes. Set aside. Leave the oven on. 36
2. Make the filling while the pastry case is baking. Grind the almonds in a blender or food processor; tip into a bowl and set aside. Cream the butter with the sugar in the processor until pale and fluffy. Add the almonds, then mix in the eggs one at a time until combined.
Makes a 26cm tart case.
3. Spread the filling in the tart case. Bake for 30–40 minutes until the filling is golden brown. Cool before serving with crème fraîche.

1. Put the flour, icing sugar and butter in a food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the egg yolks and pulse for 10 seconds, then tip into a bowl and mix briefly by hand into a dough.
3. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface and press into a 26cm fluted, loose-bottomed tart tin to line evenly. Leave to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking as directed in the recipe.

of the Veneto Azienda Vinicola Maculan Dinner
The Three Gables regularly opens its doors for special events and talks, and we were fortunate to attend the “Azienda Vinicola Maculan" dinner accompanied by wines from the Maculan family run vineyard in Breganze close to Venice. Established by Giovanni Maculan in 1947 and nurtured by son Fausto up to the present day, their 40 hectare estate produces exceptional wines that are now sold around the world. Grand-daughters Maria Vittoria and Angela continue the tradition and it’s Angela who shares stories with us of the vineyard’s development while we enjoy Head Chef Marc Salmon’s wonderful five-course meal. Starting on the terrace with canapés and the white Pino & Toi 2013, Angela gave us an enlightening introduction to the estate and its wines. Home to both vines and olive trees on rolling Veneto hillsides, its winery is located in the historical centre of Breganze, where ancient traditions and state-of-the-art technology merge. The soil there 38
is ideal for grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Tai and Vespaiolo and Fausto’s early experimental work to improve the vines paid off handsomely in both wine quality and recognition from his peers. Our next wine was a white Bidibi 2013, a delicious accompaniment to Marc’s citrus-cured salmon salad of spring vegetables and crab.This was followed by a cornish mackerel palmier with cucumber and oyster velouté accompanied by another white, the dry and well-rounded Vespaiolo 2012.
As expected, all of the food was delicious, married perfectly to the wine selection and perhaps some of this might be put down to the Mediterranean influence that classically trained Marc brings to his award winning modern British cuisine. His mains offering of a Fillet of Packham beef, bone-marrow croquette with horseradish and celeriac purée www.alocallife.co.uk
melted in the mouth and was preceded by a Brentino 2011 and accompanied by a Fratta 2010, a full-bodied red which was nectar, though not readily available in the UK. Marc’s excellent fare and host Three Gables’ Vito Scaduto’s evening was rounded off perfectly with a mascarpone and strawberry millefeuille and the intriguing Torcolato 2004 dessert wine. reen tea has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years to treat everything from headaches to depression. Drinking Green tea is thought to boost weight loss, reduce cholesterol, combat cardiovascular disease, prevent cancer and Alzheimer's disease. The leaves are processed in such a way that supposedly leaves them richer in antioxidants. Green tea contains B vitamins, folate (naturally occurring folic acid), manganese, potassium, magnesium, caffeine and other antioxidants (notably catechins). All types of tea (green, black and oolong) are produced from the Camellia sinensis plant using different methods. Fresh leaves from the plant are steamed to produce green tea, while the leaves of black tea and oolong involve fermentation. The evidence supporting the magical properties of Green Tea is fairly inconclusive but there’s definitely less calories than in a cup of Green Tea than a latte, and less caffeine than a cup of tea. Green tea is a low calorie refreshing hot drink that definitely won’t do you any harm. What’s not to love?

Choosing the Right Bed

hen it comes to choosing a bed, people can be left confused by the types of mattress available and the benefits they provide. Open Coil mattresses featuring linked springs are perhaps the most traditional type. As the springs are linked, the movement of one person may be felt by the other.
