PITTORI UNITI PER LA PITTURA

PRESENTAZIONE Guardando gli autoritratti eseguiti da Rembrandt in tutto il corso della sua vita non possiamo non restare colpiti dalla crescente capacità introspettiva dell’artista olandese. Le sue opere mostrano un’incessante ricerca dell’interiorità in uno sguardo interrogativo che, per così dire, mai si distrae, divenendo sempre più attento, vigile, sincero. Carl Gustav Jung definisce l’individuazione come un processo di differenziazione che ha come finalità lo sviluppo della personalità dell’individuo, delle sue particolarità, pur nel riconoscimento delle regole della collettività. Ora, non è proprio questo il lavoro rembrandtiano e di qualsiasi pittore si dedichi all’autoritratto? Da una parte, le sue opere restituiranno un’immagine sempre più sincera e individuale del sé, dall’altra la tecnica pittorica si andrà affinando, come sapere collettivo, aiutando l’artista a compiere questo percorso d’individuazione in modo sempre più efficace. L’autoritrattista unisce insieme lo sforzo di entrare nel sé con quello di penetrare l’intimità di chiunque si ponga davanti alla sua opera. L’entrata nel sé, quindi, è, in definitiva, l’entrata in quell’inconscio collettivo, in quell’umanità condivisa che confonde ciascuno di noi in ognuno degli altri, in un gioco di specchi infinito; quello stesso che Velazquez ci propone nel suo capolavoro Le Meninas. PRESENTATION Looking at Rembrandt’s self-portraits done throughout the entire course of his life, we are immediately struck by the increasing introspective ability of the Dutch artist. His works show an incessant inward-searching through his questioning glance that, as it were, never gets distracted but becomes ever more attentive, alert and sincere. Carl Gustav Jung defines individuation as a process of differentiation with the purpose the developing the personality of the individual and its characteristics while recognizing the rules of the community. Doesn’t this describe exactly the work of Rembrandt and any painter who takes up the task of painting a self-portrait? On one hand, his works gives us an image that is increasingly sincere and individual of himself, on the other, his painting technique becomes perfected, as collective knowledge, helping the artist to carry out the path of individuation ever more effectively. The self-portrait artist joins the effort to enter their self with that of penetrating the intimacy of whoever stands in front of their work. The entry into the self, therefore, is ultimately the entry into collective consciousness, in that shared humanity blends each of us into each of the other in a game of endless mirrors; of the same kind that Velazquez proposes in his masterpiece ‘The Meninas’. Pittori Uniti per la Pittura

Non sono una teorica, ma una pittrice, come ogni esponente di questo gruppo che raccoglie pittori provenienti da quattro continenti diversi, da me riuniti su Facebook a iniziare dal gennaio 2014. Insieme rivendichiamo l’autosufficienza della buona Pittura e la specificità di questo mezzo espressivo. La selezione fra i pittori è stata da me operata secondo semplici criteri: - Interesse ‘esclusivo’ per la Pittura. - Esercizio costante e continuo dell’osservazione della Luce dal vero, ‘en plein air’, via specifica della Pittura. - Riconoscimento della Natura come soggetto-motivo e della Storia come fondamento e criterio di valutazione. - Ricerca di trasparenza nei prezzi delle opere e nuove modalità per l’esposizione, a scopo non unicamente autoreferenziale, ma anche per divulgare la conoscenza della Pittura e per far crescere il pubblico. È la storia stessa a insegnare i ‘valori’ autentici della Pittura, che non possono essere ridotti a un’idea o un’immagine e noi crediamo che, in Pittura, l’espressione passa solo attraverso l’osservazione e l’esercizio continuo e costante del dipingere. Auspicando una rivalutazione della Pittura che ci ha trasmesso la storia, desideriamo collaborare per il recupero e la diffusione di quel linguaggio specifico che adopera linea, forma, colore, tono e il materiale concreto delle diverse tecniche. In questa prima mostra, attraverso il tema comune dell’auto-ritratto, intendiamo offrire innanzi tutto una presentazione personale e di gruppo. Il tema allude anche al nostro incontro avvenuto sulla piattaforma sociale di Facebook, ‘il libro di facce’. Tutte le opere sono il risultato di due anni di preparazione e di produzione di esercizi sullo stesso tema. La mostra potrà divenire ‘itinerante’ e spostarsi nei luoghi in cui operano i diversi pittori. L.G.

United Artists for Painting

I’m a painter not a theorist, like every member of this group of painters from four different continents, was brought together through a page in Facebook created in January 2014. Together we claim the self-sufficiency of good painting and the specificity of this expressive medium. I invited the artists to become a member of the group according to the simple criteria: - an ‘exclusive’ interest for Painting - a specific way of painting that deals with constant and continuous observation of natural light, that is, ‘en plein air’. - the recognition of nature as the subject-matter, and the history of Art as the basis and criterion of evaluation. - a transparency in the price of the work and the search for new ways of exhibiting, not only for a self-referential purpose, but also in order to spread the knowledge of painting and to expand its audience. It is the history of Art itself that teaches the authentic value of painting which cannot be reduced simply to an idea or image. We believe that, in painting, expression passes only through observation coupled with the continuous and constant practice of painting. Hoping for a current re-evaluation of painting in line with that which history has handed down to us, we want to work together for the recovery and dissemination of that specific language that uses line, shape, color, tone and the concrete material of the different painterly techniques. In this first exhibition, through the common theme of ‘self-portrait’, we intend to offer primarily, a personal presentation of the group. The theme also alludes to our meetings that take place on the Facebook social platform, ‘the book of faces’. The works are the result of two years of practice on the same topic preparation and production. The exhibition will become ‘itinerant’ and move to the places in which the different painters live and work. L.G.

Néstor Alsina

Vivo a Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ho frequentato la scuola di disegno e pittura Fondazione Guillermo Roux. Attraverso altri seminari e workshop ho continuato la mia ricerca con il colore, la pittura e il disegno con buoni insegnanti locali. La mia linea principale nel lavoro è diretta a percepire i colori e le forme immerse nella luce, riscoprendo le armonie e i percorsi dell’arte, e anelando al divertimento di plasmare nuove immagini e percezioni. Paesaggio, piccole scene e la figura umana. Il contrappunto e la dialettica di forma, linea e colore in natura e nel mondo umano. Fra i miei pittori preferiti ci sono E. Uglow, L. Freud, L. Anderson, J. Sorolla, J. Sargent, e molti altri che mi appassionano.

I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I attended the school of drawing and painting at the Foundation of Guillermo Roux and, through other seminars and workshops, I continued my research in color, painting and drawing with many good local teachers. My main work is in line with perceiving colors and shapes bathed in light, rediscovering the harmony and the history of Art, and longing to enjoy shaping new images and perceptions. Landscape, small scenes and the human figure. Counterpoint and the dialectical form, line and color in nature and the human world. Among my favorite painters are Euan Uglow, Lucian Freud, Lennart Anderson, J Sorolla, Sargent and many others that I’m passionate about.

Silvia Bar-Am

Sono nata a Buenos Aires, Argentina, ma vivo a Gerusalemme, Israele. Ho studiato musica e poi pittura e incisione al Tel- Aviv Art Museum, all’Avni Institute, alla Tel- Aviv University e, in seguito, con l’artista Israel Hershberg. Ho insegnato pittura e disegno per 25 anni in diverse università di Gerusalemme. Ho esposto il mio lavoro in Israele, U.S.A., Inghilterra, Germania, Svizzera, Grecia e Cipro. Molti miei dipinti sono stati acquistati dal Ministero degli Esteri, Ambasciata di Israele, Parigi. Arte per la Nazione, Collezione della catena “Co-op”, collezioni private in Europa, Stati Uniti, Canada, Australia, Sud Africa, Sud America e Israele.

I was born Buenos Aires, Argentina but I live in Jerusalem, Israel. I was trained in Music and later in Painting and Engraving in the Tel- Aviv Art Museum, Avni Institute, Tel- Aviv University and afterwards with the artist Israel Hershberg. I have been teaching painting and drawing for 25 years in several colleges in Jerusalem. I have exhibited my work in Israel, U.S.A., England, Germany, Switzerland, Greece and Cyprus. My paintings have been purchased by the Foreign Ministry, Israeli Embassy, Paris. Art for the Nation, Collection of the “Co-op” chain, private collections in Europe, United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, South America and Israel.

Rebecca Buck (Rebecca Buck Jankowski)

I miei quadri sono le persone, i luoghi, le cose, viste all’aperto. Dipingo a olio da molto tempo. Ho studiato pittura con Henry Hensche per 10 anni: lui ha insegnato a vedere il colore della luce naturale a molti studenti a Provincetown, Cape Cod, dove c’è una colonia di artisti fin dai tempi degli impressionisti. I giorni della mia infanzia sulla East Coast li ho trascorsi su montagne, spiagge e paludi in Pennsylvania, North Carolina e Florida, e assimilando l’arte nei musei di Washington, DC dove sono nata. La mia casa è ora alle Hawaii dove mi sono trasferita nel 1990 per poter dipingere all’aperto tutto l’anno. Si tratta di una lontana isola, tranquilla, accogliente, e piena di pace. Quando mi viene il desiderio della famiglia e della grande arte, vado a Toronto, Roma, Venezia, New York, Boston e San Francisco. Dipingo ovunque io vada. Amo dipingere e scoprire che, “tutto alla luce del sole è bello” (Charles Hawthorne). La Pittura che adoro è quella di Rembrandt, John Marin, Pierre Bonnard, Henry Hensche… e di mio marito, Theodore Jankowski. Se vedi una sottile signora con gli occhiali seduta sull’erba a dipingere con una spatola, dimmi Ciao!

My paintings are people, places, things, seen outdoors. I’ve been painting in oils a long time. I studied painting with Henry Hensche for 10 years. He taught seeing color in natural light to many students in Provincetown, Cape Cod, which has been an artists’ colony from impressionist times. My East Coast childhood days were spent roaming mountains, beaches, and marshes in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida, and absorbing art in the museums of Washington, DC where I was born. My home is now Hawaii. I moved here in 1990 in order to be able to paint outdoors year round. It’s a remote, quiet, warm, and peaceful island. When lonesome for family and great art, I travel to Toronto, Rome, Venice, New York, San Francisco and Boston. I paint wherever I go. I love painting and find that, “anything in sunlight is beautiful” (Charles Hawthorne). Paintings I most adore are by Rembrandt, John Marin, Pierre Bonnard, Henry Hensche, and the ones of my husband, Theodore Jankowski. If you see me, a thin bespectacled lady sitting on the grass painting away with a palette knife, say Hello!

Jacqueline Cope

Nata a Londra, Jacqueline Cope ha studiato presso la Exeter School of Art e ha una laurea in Belle Arti, con specializzazione in incisione e pittura. Dopo aver studiato per diventare un’insegnante d’arte nel liceo, ha lavorato nel campo della didattica dell’arte per trent’anni. Si è trasferita a Roma nel 2008 dove ha fatto esperienza dell’equilibrio tra espressività delle pennellate e raffinatezza estetica, nel suo lavoro in studio. Il suo operato esprime in forme diverse come il nostro pensiero, i ricordi e le esperienze lavorino insieme per una particolare visione del mondo. Ha esposto in mostre nel Sud Ovest dell’Inghilterra, Londra, Roma e Genova.

Born in Greater London, Jacqueline Cope studied at Exeter School of Art and has a degree in Fine Art specializing in printmaking and painting. After studying to become a secondary school art teacher Jacqueline has been working in the field of art teaching for thirty years. She moved to Rome in 2008. The experience has made her explore the balance between expressive mark making and aesthetic refinement in her studio work. Her work expresses in different forms how our thinking, memories and experiences knit together a particular vision of the world. She has exhibited in shared and group exhibitions in South West England, London, Rome and Genoa.

Daniel Dallmann

Daniel Dallmann è nato nel 1942 in Minnesota (USA). È cresciuto in una famiglia di artisti e ha completato gli studi universitari conseguendo un Master of Fine Arts Degree. Ha insegnato incisione, disegno e pittura per 43 anni presso la Scuola d’Arte della Temple University di Philadelphia. Oggi è in pensione. Ha trascorso lunghi periodi a Roma, insegnando nel programma “Studiare all’estero” della Temple University. Molte delle opere realizzate in Italia sono state esposte qui, negli Stati Uniti e nel Regno Unito. I dipinti, i disegni e le stampe di Daniel Dallmann sono stati esposti ampiamente, con oltre 25 mostre personali e oltre 100 mostre collettive. Esempi del suo lavoro si trovano in oltre 30 collezioni pubbliche, musei, istituzioni accademiche e società. Attualmente, Daniel Dallmann vive e lavora a Philadelphia.

Daniel Dallmann was born in 1942 in Minnesota. He grew up in a family of artists and has completed graduate studies earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. Today he is retired from the position as senior professor at the School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he taught printmaking, drawing and painting for 43 years. Dallmann has spent long periods in Rome, teaching in the study abroad program at Temple University. Many of his works made in Italy have been shown in exhibitions in the United States as well as the United Kingdom and Italy. Dallmann’s paintings, drawings and graphics have been exhibited widely, with over 25 solo exhibitions and well over 100 invitational and group shows. Examples of his work can be found in over 30 public collections, museums, academic institutions and corporations. Currently, Daniel Dallmann lives and works in Philadelphia.

Patricia Glee Smith

Patricia Glee Smith è nata a Savanna, Illinois, USA. Ha studiato Belle Arti (pittura) presso la University of Illinois a Urbana, dove ha ricevuto il Bachelor of Arts. In Italia ha studiato incisione alla Scuola del Libro di Urbino. È stata scelta per soggiornare come ospite dalla Fondazione MacDowell e dalla Fondazione Ragdale, ambedue per scrittori, artisti e compositori, negli USA. Ha dipinto murali a trompe l’oeil in Europa e negli Stati Uniti. Ha contribuito con disegni alla rivista “The New Yorker” per molti anni. Ha lavorato con il Museo Nazionale d’Arte Orientale di Roma dagli anni ’80 come artista incaricata della esecuzione di manifesti e di allestimenti di mostre, della cura della grafica di cataloghi, della elaborazione di disegni scientifici. Ha lavorato come artista da campo al seguito di spedizioni archeologiche italiane e straniere in Italia, Turchia, Yemen e Tibet. Ha esposto dipinti e incisioni in gallerie, ambasciate degli Stati Uniti e centri culturali in Europa, nello Yemen e negli USA.

Patricia Glee Smith was born at Savanna, Illinois, USA. She studied Fine Arts (Painting) at the University of Illinois at Urbana and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She has painted trompe l’oeil murals in Europe and the USA. She was a contributing artist to the New Yorker Magazine for many years. She has worked with the National Museum of Oriental Art of Rome since 1976 as art director and artist. She worked as expedition artist in Italy, Turkey, the Yemen and Tibet. She participated in exhibitions with etchings and paintings in institutions and galleries in Europe, the USA and in Yemen.

Laura Grosso

Sono nata a Bari nel 1955 e vivo a Roma dal 1968. Come pittrice mi sono formata nel corso di Pittura di Alberto Ziveri all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma diplomandomi nel 1978. Nel 1982 ho conseguito l’abilitazione all’insegnamento delle materie artistiche nella scuola pubblica. Ho iniziato a mostrare le mie opere nel 1982 a Roma. Da allora ho esposto in Italia, Stati Uniti, Cina, Giappone, Germania, Palestina, Inghilterra. Molti dei miei quadri sono stati acquistati da collezioni private e pubbliche. Dal 2010 ho aperto il mio Studio di Pittura a gruppi di apprendisti pittori. Nel 2013 ho iniziato a raccogliere i pittori con motivazioni simili alle mie, nel gruppo “Pittori uniti per la Pittura” su Facebook.

I was born in Bari (Italy) in 1955 but have lived in Rome since 1968. I was trained as a painter in the course of Painting taught by Alberto Ziveri in the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, graduating in 1978. In 1982 I received the qualification of teaching artistic subjects in the public schools. I began to show my works in 1982 in Rome. Since then, I have made exhibits of my work in Italy, the United States, China, Japan, Germany, Palestine and England. Many of my pictures have been purchased by both private and public collections. Since 2010, I have opened my Studio of Painting to groups of apprentice painters. In 2013, I began to select painters from around the world with motivations similar to mine for the Facebook group “United Painters for Painting”.

Nicki Heenan

Nata a Londra, Nicki Heenan si trasferisce in Nuova Zelanda da bambina, dove studia microbiologia, arte e musica. Queste aree di apprendimento hanno formato una parte importante del suo lavoro di artista, in cui i metodi sperimentali della scienza sono combinati con una visualizzazione astratta del paesaggio. I dipinti di Nicki sono molto influenzati dalla superficie e dalla materia. Il colore è reso in multi dimensionali, morbidi strati con velature trasparenti e traslucide. Nicki lavora in olio, cera a freddo, acrilico e acquerello. “La natura è al centro dei miei quadri e mi fornisce di una musa sempre cangiante.”

Born in London, Nicki Heenan moved to New-Zealand as a child where later she studied Microbiology, Art and Music. These areas of learning have formed an integral part of her work as an artist where the experimental methods of science are combined with an abstract visualisation of the landscape. Nicki’s paintings are very much influenced by surface and substance. Colour is rendered in multi dimensional soft layers with transparent and translucent glazing. Nicki works in oil, cold wax, acrylic and watercolour. ‘Nature is at the very heart of my paintings and provides the ever changing muse.”

Bruce Katz

Ho disegnato e dipinto fin dall’infanzia, e cerco di interpretare attraverso questi mezzi la bellezza e la magia nel mondo che ci circonda. Per lo più dipingo direttamente dal vero, “alla prima”, in modo narrativo ma impressionistico. Il mio interesse sta nel paesaggio, di campagna e urbano, nella natura morta e nella figura. Ho studiato come artista alla Art Students League di New York, al City College di San Francisco, e in altre istituzioni private. Negli anni ‘70, per un certo periodo, ho vissuto a Roma e ho studiato privatamente con un pittore americano. Negli ultimi anni ho studiato la pittura di paesaggio en plein air con alcuni dei più importanti pittori regionali in California. Vivo e ho uno studio d’arte a San Francisco, e spesso esco nei dintorni per dipingere. Attualmente insegno paesaggio en plein air e, in studio, natura morta. Mostro il mio lavoro al SFMOMA Artists Gallery e allo STUDIO Gallery di San Francisco e partecipo a diverse estemporanee di pittura nella zona.

I have been painting and drawing since childhood, and seek to interpret through these media the beauty and magic in the world around us. I mostly paint directly from life, “alla prima”, in a representational, but impressionistic style. My focus is on landscape/cityscape, still life and figure. I was trained as a teenager at The Art Students League in New York City and, as an adult, at City College in San Francisco, as well as in other private institutions along the way. In recent years, I’ve studied “en plein air” landscape painting with some of the top California regional painters. I live and have an art studio in San Francisco and often go out into the surrounding Bay Area landscape to paint. Currently, I teach both “en plein air” landscape and studio still life painting. I show my work at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery and at STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco and I participate in various painting shows throughout the area.

Ana Limay

Ana Limay è nata nel 1985 nella Patagonia Argentina, una regione montuosa circondata da laghi. Nel 2004 si è trasferita a Buenos Aires, dove ha studiato Arte a Priilidiano Pueyrredon, (U. N. A. National University of Arts), dove attualmente lavora come docente. Per quanto riguarda le tecniche della pittura è affascinata dal colore. Lei si ritiene in realtà una ricercatrice del colore. Ama dipingere il suo ambiente, oggetti della vita quotidiana e fiori. Oggi ha il suo studio vicino a una stazione ferroviaria, e questo è diventato uno dei suoi temi preferiti sulla tela.

Ana Limay was born in Argentine, Patagonia in 1985, a mountainous region enveloped in lakes. In 2004, she moved to Buenos Aires, where she studied Arts at Priilidiano Pueyrredon, (U.N.A. National University of Arts). At the present, she is working as a teacher at U.N.A. Regarding her painting tecniques, Limay is fascinated by colour. She is actually a colour researcher. She loves painting her environment such as everyday life objects and flowers. Today she has her studio next to a train station, and this has become one of her favourite painting themes.

Anthony Lombardi

Sono nato a Madrid, Iowa, Stati Uniti d’America, nel 1960, ma vivo e lavoro a Roma dal 1985. Mi sono trasferito in questa città dopo aver ottenuto un master presso la City University di New York, al Brooklyn College dove ho studiato con Philip Pearlstein e Lennart Anderson. Come ogni pittore serio e dedicato, ho provato molti stili e approcci. Ho osservato altri pittori e assorbito quello che ho visto come una spugna. Ho lavorato nel mondo dell’arte come assistente per altri artisti e in diverse gallerie d’arte contemporanea. Ho incontrato molte persone con la passione per la pittura. Si tratta di una folla interessante. Sono felice di far parte di questo gruppo di Facebook, di partecipare a questa mostra e raccogliere un paio dei miei quadri e i miei pensieri in questo catalogo, perché considero l’evento come unico per il suo tempo e importante per la qualità della pittura che vi viene presentata.

I was born in Madrid Iowa, USA, in 1960 but I have lived and worked in Rome, Italy since 1985. I moved to Rome after earning a Masters degree from the City University of New York at Brooklyn College where I studied with Philip Pearlstein and Lennart Anderson. Like any seriously dedicated painter, I tried many styles and approaches. I looked at other painters and absorbed what I saw like a sponge. I worked for a time in the ‘Art World’ as an assistant for other artists and in different Contemporary Art galleries. I have met many people with a passion for Painting. It is an interesting crowd. I am happy to be a part of this Facebook group, to participate in this exhibit and to gather a couple of my paintings and my thoughts in this catalogue because I consider the event as unique to its time and important for the quality of painting which is being presented.

Carlos Meijìde

Carlos Meijìde è nato a Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ha vissuto a Barcellona. Attualmente vive a Madrid, (Spagna). Ha conseguito il diploma specialistico in pittura alla University of Fine Arts di Buenos Aires. Si laurea in Storia dell’Arte alla Complutesian University of Madrid, in Spagna. Studia scultura a Carrara (Italia) e pittura a Parigi (Francia). Insegna disegno, pittura, incisione e scultura alla National School of Fine Arts di Buenos Aires. Tiene corsi di pittura a Montpellier (Francia) su invito del maestro Michel Drouillon. Tiene corsi a Madrid sul modulo, la luce e il colore. Carlos Meijìde was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the past, he lived in Barcelona but he currently lives in Madrid, Spain. He graduated with a diploma in Painting at the University of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and followed with a degree in Art History from the Complutesian University of Madrid, Spain. He worked in the Sculpture Studios in Carrara, Italy and studied painting in Paris, France. He is a teacher of drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture for the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. He taught Painting courses in the city of Montpellier, France invited by the teacher Michel Drouillon. He currently teaches courses in Madrid, Spain on composition, light and color. His research in painting is conducted in the private laboratories of Painting with Claudio Rodriguez in the cultural center of the Municipality of San Sebastian de los Reyes, Madrid, Spain.

Margarita Naot

Margarita Naot nasce a Tetuan, nel Marocco spagnolo. Ha conseguito la laurea in belle arti al San Fernando Escuela Superior des Bellas Artes Madrid, Spagna. Durante questo periodo Margarita è stata influenzata dagli impressionisti spagnoli e francesi Sorolla, Aureliano de Beruete, Pissarro e Monet, nonché dall’arte realistica spagnola (Velazquez, Zurbaran). Immigrata in Israele, ha studiato arte contemporanea a Bezalel Belle Arti di Gerusalemme. Vive e lavora a Herzliya, in Israele. Il suo lavoro presenta elementi figurativi realistici e il suo stile è fortemente influenzato dallo spirito dell’Impressionismo. Questa influenza si evidenzia appena esce dal suo studio, nel tentativo di catturare la luce naturale e nella sua aspirazione a esprimere l’attimo fuggente. I dipinti di Margarita hanno tre principali temi: paesaggi, figure e nature morte. Una parte del suo lavoro più recente riguarda Gerusalemme e i paesaggi urbani di Tel-Aviv, così come i panorami naturalistici nell’aperta campagna che circonda queste due città importanti. Lavora anche su scene di spiaggia, nature morte e ritratti, in momenti diversi, e adopera esclusivamente la pittura a olio.

Margarita Naot was born in Tetuan, Spanish Morocco. She received her degree in fine arts at San Fernando Escuela Superior des Bellas Artes – Madrid, Spain. During this time, Margarita was exposed to and influenced by the famous Spanish and French Impressionists (Sorolla, Aureliano de Beruete, Pissarro and Monet), as well as by Spanish realistic art (Velazquez, Zurbaran). Immigrating to Israel, the artist studied contemporary art at Bezalel Fine Art Academy of Jerusalem. Margarita Naot lives and works in Herzliya, Israel. Her work depicts realistic figurative components and her style is heavily influenced by the spirit of Impressionism. This influence is evident as she exits her studio in an attempt to capture natural light and in her aspiration to express passing moments in her paintings. Margarita’s paintings have three principle themes – landscapes, figures and still life. Recently, part of her work includes Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv urban landscapes, as well as open nature panoramas from the rural surrounding between these two important cities. Margarita also works on several series at different times: beach scenes, still life and portraits. Margarita works exclusively in oil.

Deborah Sherman

Sono una pittrice che vive, lavora ed espone a New York. Ho mostrato il mio lavoro in numerose sedi, tra cui la Mow gallery a Riverdale Country School e al m55, Bowery, Synchronicity Space e altre gallerie di New York. Ho ricevuto la borsa di studio Helena Rubinstein per completare un dipinto MFA alla Parsons School of Design, dove ho lavorato con Leland Bell, Larry Rivers e Paul Resika. Alla National Academy School mi è stata assegnata una borsa di studio di merito per studiare col ritrattista Nelson Shanks. Ho spesso visitato l’Europa per dipingere e osservare l’arte del passato. Ho ricevuto una borsa di studio che finanzia la residenza di artisti a La Macina di San Cresci in Chianti, in Italia. Durante il mio periodo sabbatico dall’insegnamento dell’arte ho lavorato in una residenza d’arte in Dordogna, in Francia. I am a painter living, working and exhibiting in New York. I have shown work in numerous venues including a one person show in the Mow gallery at Riverdale Country School and group shows at m55, Bowery, Synchronicity Space and other galleries in New York City. I received a Helena Rubenstein Fellowship to complete a painting MFA at the Parsons School of Design where I worked with Leland Bell, Larry Rivers and Paul Resika. At the National Academy School I was awarded a merit scholarship to study with portraitist Nelson Shanks. I have often visited Europe to paint and view the art of the past. I received a grant to fund an artist’s residency at La Macina di San Cresci in Chianti, Italy. During my sabbatical from teaching art I worked at an art residency in Dordogne, France. Most recently I received a grant to paint in a lighthouse retreat in Port Bickerton, Nova Scotia.

Judith Tummino

Sono nata a Washington, D. C. e ho trascorso molte estati presso la baia di Chesapeake. Cresciuta nel Maryland, ho fatto molti viaggi nella Shenandoah Valley della Virginia in vacanza, per visitare la Civil War home di mia madre. I was born in Washington, D. C. and spent many summers at the Chesapeake Bay. Raised in Maryland, I made frequent trips to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia on holidays to visit the Civil War home of my mother. The wetlands of Parkers Creek watershed, the Chesapeake Bay and the mountains of the Shenandoah all contributed to my love of the landscape. My early years growing up in Maryland gave me easy access to the vast art collections of the city of Washington, D.C. As I visited both the paintings in the museums and the beautiful water, land and mountains as a child, I felt compelled to learn to paint the things I grew to love. I received my formal training at Colorado State University and Western Michigan University. It was the intense studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the International School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in Italy that cemented both my love of the landscape and the desire to paint it. My work is in many private collections in the United States. My paintings are included in the permanent collections of the Dennos Museum Center, Grand Valley State University and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art.
